So I just found Amir's completely independent and new Bitcoin implementation: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=291581And then there is at least bitcoinj, where I don't know if it's a "clone to java", or a different implementation too. I know Armory is in a "hot phase" right now, with crazy much work done and left. But, long-term, I would *love* to see more Bitcoin-implementations, and Armory to support several of them as a backend. Or even several at once, for consensus maybe. I read Armory will be updated to work with remote bitcoind instances.. ;-) Well, don't mind me, just felt like saying "yay, stuff gettin' better, large-picture changes coming!" :-) Alan, you are one of the prime assets to Bitcoin! I'd still like to see things linked to another exchange just in case of a flash crash again. I understand the funds getting trapped in Gox issue, but couldn't it be implemented with higher trading fees. High enough that it would never get used from the regular order book, but in case of a major problem paying higher fees is better then BTC selling at $60 when you tried to get out at $80.
Should MtGox stop transferring Bitcoins or fiat altogether, BitFinex would face big trouble. I would prefer it any other way too, but wouldn't want to touch MtGox with a two meter stick at this point. Then, I guess it would have huge implications to have several exchanges connected at BitFinex. This would be an instant arbitrage "pressure relief valve", which probably create huge fiat- and Bitcoinstreams permanently moving from one exchange to the other(s) in the background. With all the trouble showing up at the Bitcoin-fiat-connections - no idea what would happen here.. Ente |

so you guys are using bitfinex without any issues? just wondering as i have had an account for a while and given issues at other places, i am wary of trying out other services
Technically, all working fine here for months. It's things like slippage, flashcrashs, margin calls which may make your trading-life miserable. Which has nothing to do with the platform itself ;-) Actually: A few times I put up "borrow offers", where I meant to put up "lending offers". Did I accidently choose the wrong drop-down entry? May very well happen from time to time. Or did anyone experience similar things? Maybe three times now, in the last one, two weeks. Never happened before. Ente |

Interessante Frage. Meine erste Reaktion: Muss ich wirklich vor laufender Kamera würfeln? Reicht es nicht, wenn ich mit einer (oder zehn) BTC-Adresse(n) die Nachricht signiere: "Ich, XY ZZ, geb. am XX.YY.ZZZZ, wohnhaft XY-Str. in XXXXX YYYYYY, bin Besitzer dieser BTC-Adresse" und damit zum Notar laufe? Evtl. muss ich aber auch gar nichts beweisen, denn in meiner Steuererklärung bin ich zur Wahrheit verpflichtet und das Finanzamt muss mir beweisen, dass meine Angaben nicht der Wahrheit entsprechen?
Du hast wohl recht. Mit dem Würfeln kann ich beweisen, dass die Privkeys auf dem Notebook liegen, der vor Ort beim Notar signiert. Bei deinem Cleartext könnte auch jemand anderes, woanders die Privkeys haben. Sind aber trotzdem quasi unter meiner Kontrolle, wenn ich diesen Cleartext signieren lassen konnte? Das Entscheidende ist wohl, dass man erst beim Notar war, danach die Bitcoins auf die Adressen läd, und dann noch ein Jahr wartet. Das möchte ich mal sehen, dass dann ein Finanzamt eine Diskussion anzettelt *lach* Und dann kann man sich das Würfeln, und damit auch das Filmen vor Ort sparen. Dann reduziert es sich darauf, dass man Adressen, Cleartext und Signatur an einem nachweisbaren Datum notariell beglaubigen lässt - Zettel, Kopie davon und Stempel, that's it. Ente |

Und dann auch noch unter den Finalisten ist?!? Ich freue mich, und hoffe auf noch mehr! A lot of peronal, financial interests are brought into the bitcoinfoundation nowadays. Too many members of the board act for the good of their companies, and not necessarily for the good of the whole bitcoin community. Too many of the people who believe they do decisions in the name of the whole bitcoin community are in bed with the esthablishment, governments, banks. I am relieved to see so many votes on Joerg. nachdem ich auf dem Bitcoin-Stammtisch im Room77 letzte Woche das Thema kurz hatte, habe ich mehr darüber nachgedacht:
Wie beweise ich, dass ich meine Bitcoins schon ein Jahr habe, um keine 25% Steuer auf den Gewinn zahlen zu müssen?
Die Idee am Donnerstag war, dass man sich den Besitz von Bitcoinadressen notariell bestätigen lässt, Bitcoins hinsendet, und nach einem Jahr dann steuerfrei darüber verfügen kann.
Einfach nur ein Jahr "alte" Bitcoins werden wohl nicht reichen. Irgendwann würde sich ein Markt für "gealterte" Bitcoins+Adressen etablieren..
Meine Idee:
1) Zehn Bitcoinadressen generieren
2) Zum Notar gehen
3) Vor laufender Kamera zwanzigmal Würfeln, als Zufallszahl
4) Diese 20stellige Zahl mit den zehn Adressen signieren
5) Datum, Zufallszahl, Pubkey, Signatur vom Notar beglaubigen lassen
6) Bitcoins hinsenden
7) Nach einem Jahr auscashen, Ostseeinsel kaufen, Robinson Crusoe usw
- so kann ich kryptografisch beweisen, dass ich die 10 Adressen und die Bitcoins schon mind ein Jahr lang habe
- so gebe ich die Privkeys nicht aus der Hand
- so muss der Notar nur minimal viel von der ganzen Geschichte tatsächlich verstehen
Ideen? Verbesserungen? Vereinfachungen?

Fascinating research as usual, Sergio. Going back to your first research (the one that proved that Satoshi is holding to aprox. 1M Bitcoins that never moved) I think somebody should write a script that immediately sends a warning if some of those coins are transferred… That would be probably the best time to dump everything and run for cover!  Poor Satoshi.. Reminds me of Midas - the greek guy which would turn everything to gold what he touches.. eventually starving! Also, put that "1bitcoineaterdonotsend" address on that list ;-) Ente |

Wie oft kommen diese Frage noch. Lies dir den Wikipedia Artikel über Varianz durch!!! Manchmal hat halt das gesamte Netzwerkglück und findet mehr Blöcke.. wodurch rechnerisch die Hashrate gestiegen ist. (obwohl es nur luck war)
Nop.. Varianz, ja. Aber nicht so, als konstanter Anstieg, und dann fast identischer Abfall. Innerhalb ein, zwei Stunden, also einem Duzend Blöcken, gibt es sicherlich wilde Varianz. Aber auch die ist dann ein Rauschen, Zickzack, hoch und runter. Hier sind es aber ein Anstieg und Abfall über 24h, also (theoretisch) 144 Blöcke. Schade, ich finde auf die Schnelle keine *fein* aufgelöste Ansicht der Hashrate. Die Varianz sieht man auf Sipa schon fast nicht mehr. Die mittelt sich, per Definition, innerhalb einiger Blöcke raus. Im Durchschnitt. :-) Also, keine Ahnung was los ist, war, aber Varianz war's nicht. Hübsch finde ich auch das periodische hoch- und runter bei Tag und Nacht, und dann gibt es garantiert auch eine überlagerte Oszillation im Wochen(end)- und Jahreszeitenrhytmus.
