Comkort is still listed at unobtanium.uno. It doesn't look like coins-e exists either and that is still listed.

That just looks bad. I contacted LearnMiner about it once a few months ago but maybe I should try again. Does anyone else have access to that website? It could use a few updates.
Sorry for that, I was on vacation then and have simply forgotten about it. I've been finding it difficult lately to make as much time for UNO as I used to have (combination of job-reated issues and the new baby), but I've not disappeared or anything. I'm still around, checking the thread and messages every other day. I still have a lot of faith in UNO, I've been quietly helping to shrink that Cryptsy wallet a little. So if something like that happens again just pop me another reminder, I will fix it. Thanks FallingKnife for taking care of my mess.

Happy birthday Unobtanium!

I guess this is as good a moment as any to post again after my little break. I also have another birthday to celebrate in my family, my baby boy way born a few days ago. Two great events in such a short time, awesome! Cheesy
Unobtanium unfortunatelly did not find my wife's approval as the boy's name, neither did Hulk or Batman. Women are just unreasonable sometimes...

@HagbardCeline - fantastic idea, bravo!

We have come full circle xD

First, there is CaptChadd who hates on the bitcoin blockchain ( A subject I find him wholly unqualified to opine on.) Now this. Never a dull moment for cryptospace.

BW has been a riddle to me for a while now. He used to be the #1 crypto cheerleader and revolutionary. Now it has become obvious that A) he has personal issues that over the past year(s) lead to animosities with many people who used to consider him a colleague or friend and B) he has turned sour on the cryptosphere.

His participation in Uno mirrors this ambivalence. First enthusiasm, participation, usefull exchange of opinions and information and active work. Then silence, misinformation, unfulfilled promises and barely any activity for weeks or months. Now we have a few accepted pull requests, OK great. Did he even bother looking at them? Just wondering.

Personally I've used Blazr/HagbardCeline's git to compile my last unobtaniumd daemons ...

As for the wider question of utility in crypto, well yes it is certainly an interesting question.  For the average person I don't think it does bring much - complicated and difficult to use, when compared to the standard bank account or credit card they are used to.
The core technology is complicated in its intricacies, yes. But it need not concern the user very much for the most part. Just like they don't need to know where cash comes from, how it is created, how it got transferred from one account to another and what gives it value - people just accept that out of habbit. Crypto also just works, you don't have to understand how the blockchain works to use BTC or UNO.

A bank account is only easy because people already have one. If someone doesn't or wants a new one, opening that is far more complicated and time consuming than obtaining a crypto wallet for sure:
  • 1. They need to fill out a form with all contact details.
  • 2. They need to additionally confirm their identity through whatever channel local laws deem acceptable.
  • 3. Where I live that requires going to a location, showing them papers, signing some documents and then waiting 2-3 days until veryification is complete.

edit: and the worst part, depending on your background check you might even get denied if you have a bad credit history or work in the wrong business, preventing you from even taking part in the system.
How is that easier or more comfortable than cryptocoins:
  • 1. They can go to any coin's website or an appstore) download the wallet and are ready to go, that's steps 1-3 of fiat combined in a 5 minute task.

Then I have an empty account - now what? That's the fiat advantage - fill it with cash or just have your income paid to the account, easy.

The "In" and "Out" of crypto are the problem. Once people are "In" the crypto system it is very easy to move funds around, use or exchange coins etc. - but the steps of obtaining coins and spending coins are just not competitive with fiat yet. I imagine if more people had the option to get paid in Crypto for their jobs, adoption would skyrocket in a very short time.

The complete system to use fiat money is in place and has been refined and enhanced for decades (credit cards, bank transfers, online payments), or even centuries (paper money and coins). We've been living with this system and been trained to use it our whole lives. Digital currencies cannot hope to reach that level of sophistication, breadth of services, acceptance and adoption in only a few years. If you take that into consideration its amazing how far we have come in such a short time!

Don't be impatient, the internet has completely transformed how we communicate, how we shop, how we meet new people, how we consume media and news - but it took decades. When I was surfing the internet 20 years ago and told people about it, they looked at me in a funny way. Now almost everybody uses it every hour of every day. Fiat money will still be around in 20 years, but I'm willing to bet cryptocurrencie will play a big role too by that time...

Average volume is over 0.8BTC for the last week we should be safe, wonder why they take so long to remove that message...

The Android wallet is looking really good! Has anyone tried it on a tablet yet?

You are right, lots of good things too but they get burried in the moody atmosphere. That storm will pass.

As for price, Uno has traditionally stagnated or declined a bit during bigger Bitcoin pumps. No surprise here.
89  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Unobtanium Guild / UN-EX Discussion on: June 30, 2015, 12:48:39 PM
As for the uproar about the Guild, it really took me by suprise as I had never heard anyone utter a negative word about it. Then, all of a sudden, there's a Gekko tidal wave of ultra-violence about it!  Suddenly, it's over with. I'd traded several times in several media there, always with success. If someone posted a price that stunk, one simply didn't buy...
Same here, I'm actually still a bit in shock how all of this played out. Personally I was not going to remove the guild from the site, nor was FK. The only reason it is gone is that you called it quits (and I happened to be working on the site at that time to fix the cryptsy API bug). So if you want to take a break, tweak the concept and return at a later time in a new form, we're all open for it.

@siameze I also posted in the main thread that I was very sorry to see you leave and am actually glad you're still around in some form, even if it is in an entirely different and much more sceptical mood. Good luck on your new bitcoin project. As for this community, it can only be as good as the people that choose to stay and participate. If you think one or even a few rotten apples means the entire tree is sick, well then bitcoin is probably also not a good place for you to be. The number of prominent bitcoin scams, thefts and unsavory behaviour that community has been responsible puts every other coin to shame. Just sayin' ...

afaik, there hasn't been a bitcoin core dev that has such a background. Sure Gavin Andresen is a smacktard, but he and his reddit army are in for a good fight. Most of the scams, thefts, and generally unsavoury behavior you mention is 3rd parties, natural to any economy. A community can only stay vigilant and warn others in that respect.

If I discovered that one of the bitcoin core devs had at any point been involved in such undertakings, I might have a different view. If at some point this whole fiasco is sorted, the UNO community can expect my tireless assistance at any time. Crypto is my day job, so it isn't like I have anything else distracting me.

Good to hear and I agree to your point about the bitcoin core devs. Some food for thought, thanks for bringin some perspective to this discussion.

Time for a round of ale and some songs me thinks.

*Oh, Unobtanium, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling'
Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow'
Tis I'll be there in sunshine or in shadow
Oh, Unobtanium, oh Unobtanium, I love you so!*

 Kiss

I will update the website shorty to reflect our new branding. If you don't like it tough luck, better learn to live with it, or I will flash a picture of the ugly hairy mole on my chin on Cryptsy later...

I'm signing off for today. Please try not to start another drama tonight. Wink

Since the guild took matters into their own hands and decided to put an end to the controversy their way, I've removed references to it from the unobtanium.uno website.
In the process I fixed the Cryptsy ticker - for some reason their primary API server doesn't seem to work reliably right now, so I switched to #2 which seems to work. If anyone notices problems with it in the future please let me know.

@Gekko: I've got no repect for the way you behaved on this issue, there was absolutely no need to play dictator here and even less to be abusive and threaten folks. Not. Cool.

No rush.  on redesign
the website is branded as it is ( i know some don't like the yellow ) but there is familiarity now coupled with the  yellow 0.10 Wallet
I like the yellow and I know I'm not alone, but it is a minority opinion.

There have always been a variety of logos for Uobtnaium AFAIK. I am aiming to pull everything together and offer customizability on my future Un projects. Instead of rebranding I want to embrace that diversity - but with blue as the default.

Quote
i would suggest the redesign hold off until 2 year anniversary
1.  We will have a collection of wallets
2.  We will (maybe) also have a collection of websites (so each wallet might also have a matching theme website?)
3.  We will be in better position to make a loud bang on the charts
4.  Official/Formal media kit

And time it all at once coupled with a big PR and socmedia push.
These things take time anyway. But that birthday is actually aproaching faster than I would like, lol.

I would love to see the original blue color on the site too, instead of the little yellow un periodic table thing.
I get it. There will be a redesign of the site at some point, don't worry. Will take a little time though...

Point is, get all the cartel insider trading crap out of the Marketing material.

I will sit Back and see how this works out. If it doesn't work out the way I want, raise BTC to buy me out at 15.  Because I will put 2200 kilos there on Cryptsy in 72 hours and leave it to rot or be bought.  You have 3 days from now.

Now, I am on radio silence for 72 hours. Timer set. Joker costume pressed and ready. (The Nurse one, with the Heath Ledger make-up).

Edit:  sorry, 2200 Uno's.  Found some behind the couch.  Doubt me?  I will start flashing them at 25 tomorrow.
Hello "chaotic rogue element" - fulfilled any other prophecies lately?

Listen, I am generally a reasonable person I think my history here proves that. No idea why you suddenly feel the need to lash out. Personally I've had a long week, I'm not going to lift a finger for the next 72 hours. I'm going to sleep long, play with the kids, eat some BBQ and enjoy my weekend.

I suggest you do the same (or whatever you do to relax). You've raised your concerns, no need to turn this into a drama.
96  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Update to 0.10 Wallet - Merge Mine w/BTC! on: June 26, 2015, 12:51:23 PM
Address the issues I brought up.  The "Guild" is an embarrassing low tech insider trading scheme against the law in most jurisdictions. You can not "back" crypto with metal, since you can't make me whole if you can't give me metal.  You and IMZ are spinning your wheels on something silly and insisting it be front and center on the unobtanium.uno page.

I propose all references to it be banished from that page, and I know for fact many others agree.  Do what you want, but insider trading is not part of the UNO branding.

Votes?
You're making asumptions, nobody insisted (or even requested) anything. I put up information on the (then still called Un-Ex) Guild on my own, because I thought it was an interesting aspect to this community. Note I have never participated in Un-Ex, I just saw many core and long term members of this community start using it and thought it would make a good addition. I was/am actually a bit concerned about the placement on unobtnaium.uno being a bit too prominent for an "un-official" piece of content, but decided to keep it close to the exchange section, as it fits well there thematically.

If there are any concerns about that and/or the placement on the website in the community, please by all means lets discuss this (or send me a PM). So far not a single soul has mentioned something to me about this. Since you are obviously educated on the legalities regarding these matters, care to elaborate your concerns for a hobbyist with little trading/financial background?

Changes vs. Bryce's latest are mostly cosmetic and verbiage changes to make the Vault look like it was intended to look. Sorry, not a fan of the yellow at all, Un is obviously blue Wink I also quite like the idea of changing the wallet radically with some new graphics, but wanted to get this working version out before I dig in to QT5 too far and to be satisfied with the new method of building clients. The QR window URI is correctly formatted in this version, so building an Android client from it should have superior results. Gramweighting is back but the 0.10.x branch code is a bit different than the 0.9.x generation and I'll need a bit more time with the 9th digit.

I will submit these changes as a pull request soon to the Un Official github. Please let me know if you have any issues with it and since BTCTalk won't let me put an Un addy in my sig, if you'd like to send some Un to me: uVjbsx6tAhySeJpN7xLBieAzWcD7rEVmYp
Awesome, nothing quite like the original. Tip sent. 🎇

I've actually been doodling some designs for a more modern look for the Uno apps I'm working on. Still need a little more time to refine the designs, but making good progress. Putting the blue back in the focus and keeping an eye on customizability (I hear ya @edgar) and responsiveness (as in scaling to all screen sizes down to mobile). If you're interesten in "exchanging notes" let me know, I'd love your feedback.

Here's a screenie of the current version  of the app with the 3 different themes applied. All data is fetched live form the block explorers and exchanges. As I said its very basic, just refactored and added a little to my existing codebase from unobtanium.uno as an experiment. But it's already packaged and running as a windows app locally (running snap mode in the screenie, works in full screen too but with a lot of wasted empty space, lol).

@learminer

I don't exactly know what the ticker looks like, are you going to offer quotes from all $UNO exchanges?

If so, how about a detailed quote on a hover of the mouse over the price and then a direct open of the trading page of the respective exchange with a click upon it?

If you check the exchange section of unobtanium.uno that's basically the ticker I've got implemented right now. So I've got current price (in BTC), volume and links for the top 4 UNO exchanges. What it has (that unobtanium.uno doesn't) is auto-updates (every 90 seconds, could be configurable, might be limited by exchange API).

I'm not sure wether its worth putting much more effort into the exchange details, as everyone that wants really detailed features, like charts, orderbooks etc. is probably using tools like coinigy or cryptrader already. But I'm not sure, that's why I'm asking. If showing more details is of interest, like the orders or something similar as additional details I'll see what I can do.

The app is for you so don't be afraid to tell me what you're looking for. If its beyond my time limit or skillset I can always ignore it. Wink
