I haven't re-accrued enough for a withdrawal yet so I can't say whether or not I've been scammed. They've changed their name and the old domain redirects to a new one (bitsminer.io redirects to startminer.com). I'm at the freebie level, so we shall see.

My day job (web development, SEO, content writing, etc...) pays me in USD but I also do some writing, editing, and crypto promo on the side that I get paid in BTC (or altcoin if I'm promoting an altcoin) for.

While a lot of folks are wringing their hands over the ETF being shot down, I saw an article on Bitcoinist that has a more positive take on things: http://bitcoinist.com/6-reasons-etf-defeat-win-bitcoin/The author raises several good points, especially with regards to the effect that a massive influx of new mainstream investors' transactions would have on the bitcoin network and transaction times.

I am only using one right now and that is Genesis Mining. I've been with them for over a year. I'm testing a new site, [name of probable scam], but I've only been with them for a week or two so I can't speak to their legitimacy just yet.
Regarding Genesis Mining: What was the cost of your mining contracts, and how much have they paid (in BTC, please)? I bought .06 btc worth of sha256 hashing power (approx 0.35 Th/s) and they have paid out 0.04 BTC so far. So, you have lost 30% so far. Do you expect to break even, given the ever-rising difficulty? My mining calculator shows that you will break even only if the difficulty rises less than 2.5% each period for the next 18 months. Unfortunately, it has been rising at the rate of about 10% so far this year, which means that your mining fees will exceed your revenue in about 4 months, and you will never break even. Are your results the same? As long as they don't shut down anytime soon, I will eventually break even. It's certainly not a fast ROI by any stretch.

I'm a free account holder there. My balance was up to .001 and change yesterday and then disappeared this morning. Every time I logged back in my balance would start over from nothing. Not pleased, but at least I didn't give them any of my money.
Getting ready to do a writeup about it.

As much as I love crypto, I've learned that I don't have the temperament for investing. I'm too timid when it comes to finances. I'm fine with smaller investments...$20 here, $50 there...but the thought of buying an entire bitcoin (or even half of one) scares the bejeezus out of me

Things are definitely looking up. Sadly I sold most of my bitcoin last month to pay bills. So now I'll just start again doing web development, SEO, article writing, etc... for bitcoin.

I would say that this needs to be in the Scam Accusations board, but to be honest, it's pretty obvious. I hope most people are intelligent enough not to believe that a program would generate hundreds of dollars from minutes - in fact, if anyone wasn't, I would fear that their IQ is below any recorded level, or at least that they're extremely naive.
People fall for worse scams everyday. I agree w/ you about moving it to the Scam Accusations board though. I didn't know that there was one, otherwise I'd have posted there.

Thanks for sharing this, I was looking up bitcoin maker and found this you have warned many more people who fall for this type of scams and waste their time hoping for some positive results.
Glad I was able to help I'm trying to do one or two of these reviews a month. The scam potential is what scares people away from bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general, imo.

I use Virwox to buy / sell BTC (I'm a small fish in a very big pond, though). It's a little convoluted how they do it - USD > SLL > BTC - but it works. Their fees aren't *too* terrible and they decrease the more you use their service.
I don't think they accept credit cards though unless it's via Skrill or something similar.
Cheers!
Cynthia

I was spending some down time the other day clicking ads on one of the PTC sites and I kept seeing one for Bitcoin Maker. Not much to look at features / design-wise, but they claimed to be able to generate free bitcoin faster than any mining pool. Sound too good to be true? It is. After supposedly generating the amount of bitcoin you selected in a crazy short amount of time (less than 15 minutes to generate 0.3 BTC - HAH!) a pop up appears saying that they have sent the payment but that you have to pay a TX fee for it to go through. In the case of the 0.3 BTC, the "fee" was 0.009 BTC. I looked up my BTC address in the blockchain and no transaction was ever sent - confirmed or unconfirmed. There is no means of contacting the site owner and when I did a WHOIS on the domain, the registrant info was hidden behind a privacy service. The TRUSTe verified emblem is bogus too AND the user comments are recycled fakes. Here is the complete review w/ screenshots: http://bitcoinmafia.com/scam-graveyard/bitcoin-maker-scam-review/The only GOOD thing about this is that I didn't actually lose any bitcoin. Forewarned is forearmed! Cheers, Cynthia
