Hey guys, thanks for the more recent jokes! Unfortunately, I'm no longer paying out in this thread. I made this in 2011, haha.

84  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the most expensive thing, you have bought with Bitcoin? on: June 04, 2014, 01:57:42 PM
Why and how did you spend 30btc on Minecraft?

I edited my post with the link to the thread. At the time I believe Bitcoins were about a dollar. This guy was selling Alpha accounts, which meant that you wouldn't have to pay again for Minecraft after the beta was over or something. I also bought multiple accounts for friends too. Probably spent around 120 BTC through PM's with this guy, all on Minecraft accounts, haha.

I spent 20 BTC on my Minecraft account. i also spent 100 BTC on a VPS that I never used a while back. Smiley

EDIT: Minecraft thread link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4226

EDIT2: My mistake, they were 20 BTC. I think they went up to 30 when he started running out of accounts or something

Ha, this is pretty cool!
88  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: A New Blockchain Visualiser on: April 27, 2014, 05:10:44 PM
I'd love to try, but I'm getting "There is no data folder". Any idea why?

Code:
[ryland@localhost Downloads]$ ./blockchain_visualiser.x86
Set current directory to /home/ryland/Downloads
Found path: /home/ryland/Downloads/blockchain_visualiser.x86
There is no data folder
[ryland@localhost Downloads]$

It's a helpful tool, but I don't believe it's meant to be the final authoritative representation of whether or not someone is trust-worthy. Make sure to also do your own research, and don't rely on it entirely.
90  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Portland Bitcoiners: Try Paying Food Carts with Bitcoins! on: April 02, 2014, 01:28:32 AM
Damn, dreams crushed. Guess it's good I didn't make it to any of the villages today. I wasn't aware that "Square Market" was a separate thing, or that they even provided any services other than their card reader and app. Thanks for pointing that out, franky1.
91  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Coinbase e-mail phishing scam on: April 01, 2014, 03:32:34 PM
I have never used coinbase, Nor now shall I ever consider using them, How can they allow such a thing.

I got the same email. I don't use CoinBase either, but in there defense, I don't see how this is their fault. The most they could do is send out a mass email warning about the phishing scam. They can't really stop someone from sending fake emails.
92  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Portland Bitcoiners: Try Paying Food Carts with Bitcoins! on: April 01, 2014, 03:24:39 PM
http://corner.squareup.com/2014/03/square-market-accepts-bitcoin.html

I'm sure Portlanders have noticed many of the food carts around town using Square for credit/debit transactions. The article says square pays them with USD after receiving the Bitcoin transaction; I can't really see any reason why the food carts would refuse Bitcoin payment. I'm going to try to hit a food cart village today and see what happens.

95  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buying 0.2 BTC via Paypal on: February 27, 2014, 03:47:19 AM
Trust issues aside, just to let you guys know that Paypal will freeze accounts if you buy/sell bitcoins.  I had my account frozen for selling from selling BTC on ebay, got it unfrozen but had to sign a notarized document back to paypal saying that I wouldn't buy/sell bitcoins via payal.  You can buy/sell equipment and "bitcoins related services" but not virtual currency itself... Just wanted to let you know, no harm/no foul.

Ha, sounds like a Paypal thing to do. Thanks for the warning. How did they find out what you were specifically sending the money for?
