801  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN][P2Pool] Check Out P2Pool.org - 30 coins and counting! on: December 24, 2013, 03:46:39 PM
jude,

i'm curious about something.  i know when i used to run my p2pool, i'd have, say, 2 or 3 real miners, and about 90 random people on it every day, half with invalid addresses.

do ports ppl were using that left ever close for you?  or it may have just been because they still had me as a backup pool?  eventually the whole 1000's of sockets being used, i couldnt do anything else (and i had firewall set to max 3 connections as well)
802  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: cryptsy lagging? on: December 24, 2013, 01:30:37 PM
I saw around 50k doge sell for .000000001 on the ticker.  that was pretty cool

i guess lesson of the day:  dont put in "funny" orders when cryptsy is like 3 hours behind, because it also f*cks up and skips all the orders in between you and your sell/buy price
803  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][TIPS] FedoraCoin - Euphoria - Enlightenment - Intelligence on: December 24, 2013, 07:21:04 AM
Well, it just got four blocks in 45 minutes with 10mhash, so I guess that cancels out bad luck I was talking about

(and multipool is on doge so that'll be worthless soon, & grandcoin can kma)

MemoryCoin2 Pool: http://mmc.xpool.xram.co/ (beta)

Pool while no block is not found, but miner seems to be working stabile for a couple of hours was not crashed.

that's nice, i got this error when trying to run the miner, any idea?

error while loading shared libraries: libdb_cxx-5.3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

you just needed to install libdb5.3-dev, libdb5.3++-dev, libdb5.3, libdb5.3++  .. those exist for for ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10

for precise, you could use one of the 'untrusted' sources @ https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/db5.3 or install it yourself from oracle website,

Still getting a lot of orphans, even with 8 connections.  are there any reliable addnodes yet?
i have over 100 connections @ nogleg.net & most of the major pools, I think.  i changed source for 60 outgoing connections (took about an hr to find that many, with a 180ms timeout)

806  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][TIPS] FedoraCoin - Euphoria - Enlightenment - Intelligence on: December 24, 2013, 05:21:44 AM
So we got pools down, pools that constantly lose connection, pools with missing coins and pools only paying out 20% of correct rewards...yet difficulty is now over 30. WTF is going on?

You'd have to be crazy to be pool mining this so must be some serious solo mining going on.

yeah, i've had a pool at 0% fee running since hour 2

i havent had any issues

i'm at >40m ..  with about 1.5mhash

though not that having these serves any real purpose       (i think almost time to switch back to my doge p2pool)

And what pool is it ? I also mined on a p2pool for 6 hours and miss multiple millions TIPS. Is there a magical way to determine in advance that the pool you're gonna mine on is not bugged/a scam ?
Because they all use the same templates so you cannot even judge by their appearance.

Edit : seems you are the operator of the pool I'm speaking of. I mined from ~9:30 AM UTC to 15:30 AM UTC on your pool with 9MH/s and got ~800k TIPS. diff was between 10 and 20, so I should have get at least 4 to 5 millions. What happened ?

Edit 2 : I still appear in your page in the "payouts if a block were found now" section. Am I getting paid even 4 hours after stopping ? I don't get it.

Edit 3 : I'm still receiving payment from what seems to be your pool, 600k more. So I really don't get it.

I nigger-rigged it w/o restarting p2pool so you can look at each individual block on the new block explorer.  Click on them and it shows who got what.

You're definitely not missing multiple millions of TIPS... it's set to a 60 block range, if you just started mining and, say, 10 minutes had passed, then you'd theoretically only get 1/6th of what you'd get if you had been there a full hour... re: difficulty is supposed to adjust so that there is a block every 60s.  on the flip side, after you leave, you'll still get stuff for that 10m you were there for another 50m.. assuming you got any shares.  there are two values... one is the difficulty it uses to show your hash rate on the graph and one is the difficulty that will show up as a share in the share explorer

they show up as immature until confirmed

and it's not being run on a VPS

ed: maybe you need to download the new client, it was giving out 1/5th value before

Ok so I looked precisely at the block history, and here is the explanation :
Just after joining the pool, 4 blocks were found, which is extremely lucky for your pool. Because I joined less than 30mn before, I got paid much less. This is normal to avoid pool hoping, I understand that.
But after, blocks were found a lot less as the difficulty greatly increased, and people leaved the pool probably for this very reason (from ~80MH/s to currently ~20MH/s).
So because I had a great hashrate contribution, I'm still getting paid with the newer blocks found, but as they are less and less common, the payment are farther and farther away one from another.
I'm currently at ~1.5M from your pool, so the explanation is a combination luck/payment method/payment interval due to the difficulty increase and the current lack of hashrate on your pool.

Everything seems to fit, I apologize for having put in doubt your pool.

What probably explains why people are leaving your pool is the fact that you can get paid multiple hours after. Standard PPLNS/PPS/Prop pools are much faster, so if you don't have the tool to check, you can believe in a scam. And because of that, people will really never get paid due to the fact that no new block will ever be found with just a few MH/s

yeah, the pool was super lucky for the first... 12 hours or so?  now it's been, hmm, I wouldn't say super unlucky, but unlucky for the last 6-8 hours (0 blocks).  it should still be getting a block every 3 hrs or so.  I just moved my miners off of it to go back to DOGE (it was at .00000080 or w/e), so now maybe it's every 4 hours.. but if I adjusted the settings now, then it'd screw everyone that mined earlier.  on the flip side, nobody will want to mine on it if it only solves a block every couple hours and it takes them days to reach full share.  with current setting it really needs a block every 30-45m.

this problem is also partially due to client not handling difficulty correctly.  it's supposed to solve a block every 60s.  that's why I set it the way I did

Ah, I must now go back to DOGE.  It seems like most ppl left my pool & I'll be taking away around 7MH/s when I leave.... so, I'll  see what happens.  Might take it down tomorrow, may just leave it alone (if some of the same ppl are mining on it that are today), or may reset it back to zero if there are diff people.  The block spread is too large & that was set when difficulty was like 200K or something & pool was at 30-40mhash.

the good news is that since cryptsy took 4 hours to process my 1.5m doge deposit, i ended up getting 89 for it instead of 70

ed: maybe you need to download the new client, it was giving out 1/5th value before

ed2: actually it's set to 30 blocks for the pool to find.  not based on difficulty.  so, yes, as long as i keep the pool up, you'll keep earning stuff for a rly long time.   though  it'd be diluted as more and more shares are earned

ed3!:  And the shares are based on share difficulty, not on # of shares you got.. so a couple of us getting a ton of difficulty .05 shares or whatever in the first 2 or 3 blocks, ... those are only worth 1/10th the value of a .5 difficulty share

p2pool @ nogleg.net:1911 I went ahead and restarted to fix subsidy value.  also, it only shows the share value since pool was reset, but it keeps track of the old ones (60 blocks on network, ~1hr)

about to restart, have to finish fixing fedoracoind source first

I fixed subsidy value, for some reason I had 2 extra 0's, so it was at 100,000,000 instead of 1,000,000.

so the block that was found:  Value: 3692650 FDC  is entirely inaccurate (as reported @ http://nogleg.net:1911/static/share.html#2808d15905a93f8a4af3d55d16630908b12e26edb1521e51cdf951d0925399e0 ).

is what i got, and I think I'm getting about 70% atm.  so the reported values are just goofy.  i'd restart p2pool but it causes problems with some versions of cgminer (crashes them out)

likewise

Hmm.  Seems to be about 6-7x more than actual.  is there a block explorer set up somewhere?

(and I got 87% of first block, 65% of second block.   1st block was around 580k, 2nd block was around 30k.)

I sold the card, got myself a 7950 back that was way quieter (dual-cooling setup) and can church out 640kh without too much trouble Smiley

In the end I never quite figured it out, although I suspect it might have something to do with the 2gb ram of the system (people mentioned that sometimes getting 4gb fixes issues like mine).

Thank you all for the kind help!

yeah, I have a 2GB 7850 that i can't get max speed on since the system itself needs more RAM (to raise the thread-concurrency value, i think?)

This is a great site showing different video card hashrates, and what GPU/memory speeds and cgminer settings were used to achieve them:

https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison

i get 315khash on 5830  with 899 core 899 memory, no need for the crazy 950/1250 shit.  wouldnt be able to do that with my fanless cards for sure

Don't waste your time with this. If you gonna do it for fun OK but everything else is waste of time.
pretty much

though i guess it lends some credibility to pankkake, so if he decides to create some other damn near useless alt currency, it'd probably have a better chance to get listed on an exchange.. and generate a lot of monies
