Quote
90 Percent of Companies Have Been Hacked Into, Survey Finds

It seems it's becoming almost normal for companies to experience some kind of major network security breach these days.

In just May and June, Citigroup, Nintendo, Google, PBS, Lockheed Martin, NASA, Fox Broadcasting Corporation and Sony Online Entertainment have all been hit by targeted online attacks aimed at disrupting corporate operations and, in some cases, stealing sensitive information.

Other high-profile organizations, including RSA, Epsilon, the International Monetary Fund and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory have also experienced network intrusions.

A new survey conducted by Ponemon Research on behalf of the networking equipment and software firm Juniper Networks quantifies the real threats companies face in protecting themselves from these attacks.

According to the survey, "Perceptions About Network Security," 90 percent of the 583 companies polled said they've suffered a network security breach at the hands of hackers at least once in the past year.

Those don't include website hacks, which are annoying but often not serious, or denial-of-service attacks, which are more like roadblocks than actual hacks.
803  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll - Mt. Gox Rollback - We Finally see our Accounts on: June 25, 2011, 06:37:02 AM
Hmm. I see a dozen logins between Sat 18 Jun 2011 02:35:11 PM JST and Sat 18 Jun 2011 02:44:26 PM JST from these IP addresses:

209.200.185.86
209.200.185.87
209.200.185.88
209.200.185.89

Apparently these addresses belong to Prolexic. I think this was about 24 hours before I was locked out of my account (my home IP shows up several times after this), and 38 hours before the crash.

Edit: Maybe this was me logging in while there was some kind of DDoS protection running? Around 2:45 PM JST, I was unable to stay logged in (I'd be immediately logged out after loading the main page), and around 2:59 PM I noticed I was unable to change my password.

Those are the same ones I had!
804  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll - Mt. Gox Rollback - We Finally see our Accounts on: June 25, 2011, 06:20:28 AM
The BTC I bought via a standing buy order at $12 during the crash are gone, as I expected, since they announced the rollback.  My cash & BTC  balances are correct, matching the pre-crash amounts.

On the log page, there are a small # of logins, all around the same time, from an IP address I don't recognize.

I'm curious about the strange IP, but since I changed my password, and the new one is super long and crazy complicated, I'm not worried about it.

I am satisfied with the information presented to me so far.
805  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gox me baby! Where are you? on: June 25, 2011, 03:02:21 AM
GOXED AGAIN?!?! for real?

this forum really needs an "ignore this member forever" button
806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MTGOX Limit Orders placed prior to the breach.. Not Cancelled?? on: June 24, 2011, 06:23:47 PM
RchGrav:

you said your order is for $15?  Trade Hill is at $16.75 right now, so it may not be a bad order.  Wink
807  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MTGOX Limit Orders placed prior to the breach.. Not Cancelled?? on: June 24, 2011, 05:46:16 PM
I'm just glad the decision has already been made.

Keep thinking this thread will change anything, though. It's been amusing to read. I can't wait for the whole Mt. Gox opening to be over, so you people can go back to the usual 'important' tasks at hand, such as proclaiming how many BTC you've "lost".

Honestly, the whole forum has been a dog's breakfast ever since the hysteria took over.

And what is that decision?

(errata snipped)

All relevant information can be found here:

https://support.mtgox.com/entries/20208066-huge-bitcoin-sell-off-due-to-a-compromised-account-rollback

I don't see any mention where forum threads are being considered as an influence for future plans, so I'd say the decisions are already made.

Hence the irrelevance of this thread

I don't think the OP is trying to influence anyone.  He's just trying to get a concrete answer, and there doesn't seem to be one.
808  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A question to all speculators - What if Bitcoins' price just flatline? on: June 24, 2011, 04:01:17 PM
I'm a day trader, so the volatility is what I love about bitcoin.  I'm just in it for fun, I'm not trying to make a fortune.

If bitcoin "flatlines" against the $US (I take this to mean the price stays at the same level), then day trading would be no fun, and I'd probably sit it out until the roller coaster starts up again.

It's the roller coaster that is the fun part, to me.
809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MTGOX Limit Orders placed prior to the breach.. Cancelled?? on: June 24, 2011, 05:52:39 AM
I'm in the same boat as you.  Before I went to bed the night before the attack, I place an buy order at 12, thinking, "hey, if I wake up and it executed, great!" but I really didn't expect it to.  I woke up the next day, and saw I had an email that the order was executed.  I tried to log into MtGox, and it was really slow.  Turns out the attack happend about 10 minutes prior to me waking up.

Anyway......

The way I read Mt Gox's current messages: "Users whose trades were effectively cancelled during the the sell-off will be able to trade for free for 1 month following the reopening...", you and I get free trades for a month, since our limit orders executed and will be cancelled by the rollback.
810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt Gox opens in less that 5 hours. Anyone gotten a "Recovery Success" email? on: June 24, 2011, 05:23:47 AM
I got mine - approved!   Grin
811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hey MtGox wheres my recovery email? on: June 24, 2011, 05:00:47 AM
I just got mine about 2 minutes ago:

"Your account recovery request has been accepted.

You will be able to access your Mt.Gox account once the site opens again."

Smiley

813  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt Gox opens in less that 5 hours. Anyone gotten a "Recovery Success" email? on: June 23, 2011, 11:57:39 PM
how many more minutes?

From Mt.Gox:

"Users with reclaimed accounts will be able to login to Mt.Gox on Friday June 24th at 3:00 GMT (12:00 JST). Once you are logged back into the Mt.Gox site you will be able to withdraw and deposit funds as per usual. You will not be able to trade initially, but we plan to activate trading within an hour of the site being up (4:00 GMT)"

3:00 GMT = 20:00 PDT (8pm) = 23:00 EDT (11pm), so 3 hours, 3 minutes from now.
814  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Mt Gox opens in less that 5 hours. Anyone gotten a "Recovery Success" email? on: June 23, 2011, 10:25:38 PM
Mt Gox opens in less that 5 hours.  Has anyone gotten a "Recovery Success" email?

I "claimed" my account the first few hours it was available to do so.  I got the "We have received a recovery request for your account that pointed to this email. To verify this email and enter the recovery process, please use the link below." email (and I clicked on it's link and finished the process), but I have yet to receive a confirmation or other email from them.

When I click on the link now I get the same message as everyone else:

"Your account recovery request is pending review by our staff. Once your account has been reviewed you will be sent an email advising how to access your Mt.Gox account. We will begin sending out emails with instructions within the next 24 hours. If you do not receive the email after 48 hours (see above) please contact us so we can look into your claim request"

Anyone get anything more than this yet?

Thanks
815  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MtGox - T-Minus 23 Hours and 15 Minutes until Launch on: June 23, 2011, 05:59:29 AM
On June 21, after initiating the verification process, I received an e-mail stating that my account was pending review; I haven't received any other e-mails, yet. Supposing the exchange is going to open in around the next 24 hours, should I be concerned?

I'm in the same boat.  I'm going to bed soon (PDT), and if there's no email when I wake up, I'll contact them then.
816  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WTF @ Mt.Gox?! on: June 23, 2011, 05:54:31 AM
well, it looks like I'll be getting it for free, so, yay!

"Users who's trades were effectively cancelled during the the sell-off will be able to trade for free for 1 month following the reopening, and will also receive a free subscription to our upcoming 2-Step security authentication feature for as long as they hold their account."
817  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MtGox - T-Minus 23 Hours and 15 Minutes until Launch on: June 23, 2011, 04:44:09 AM

you are correct, sir!
818  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MtGox - T-Minus 23 Hours and 15 Minutes until Launch on: June 23, 2011, 04:32:30 AM
thats 3:00 AM GMT or 10 pm EST

Isn't it 11pm EST?
819  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: post here when your account is recovered (mt.gox) on: June 22, 2011, 08:08:32 PM
And everyone's IP address on this thread has been delivered to website asking for the username/password.   Hope your firewalls are up to speed...

scare tactics much?

Everyone's IP address is ALWAYS sent to any webserver that serves you anything - an image in someone's sig, for example.

Every website you've ever visited, and any external content providers they use, has your IP address.  Who cares?

Jesus Crust.  You people are so paranoid.
820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GBVAULT.COM Righting Wrongs on: June 22, 2011, 07:21:17 AM
So now you want to know which emails are active?

Kill the brand, sell anything (if anything) of value, do something else.

The people on this forum are some of the most hateful I have seen anywhere. If this is the "bitcoin community", then bitcoin is doomed.
