Now that these things have been up for about 12 hours I've got some more data.

On the first one I unboxed, I opened it up and found all those screws that needed to be snugged on the heat spreaders. Now, its the coolest one of the bunch and also has the highest hash rate. TEMP2 (which I'm guessing is on one of the boards or the heatsink) is 46C on this until and the others are all over 50C. Also, the fan speed on this one is around 2500 whereas the others are all at 3200 and higher. Hash rate on the miner I popped open is just south of 60GH's and the others are all hanging at closer to 57GH's. All four units are clocked to 375.

Seems to me that I need to bust open the other miners on Monday and tighten some screws.  Smiley

I've got a friend that is working on a exotic cooling solution for gaming rigs. He's going to look at one of my Avalons to see if he can come up with something for them. I'd love to see these things operate closer to 40C without added fan noise. FWIW, the room they are in is held at a constant 18C.

Stay tuned!

The only real way you are going to cool the mini's is to stick them outside or close to a window if you live in the north, or put them in a freezer like a walk in one because there is very little room inside a mini to add things to make water cooling or anything fancy work.

the 1123 min. one was from Bitminter yesterday. the confirms today are from me paying out. so this is normal? I have never had a transaction take more than 20 minutes to confirm. I guess the one from bitminter that was stuck from yesterday was holding all the later trans. up. I am good now, they have all confirmed. I was worried something was wrong with the network.

I would think that btc price of 320usd or more has made for more transactions. Think of a person that held coins from Last years price of 10 usd. I would think he is selling now.  I would also think outsiders to btc are buying coins like stock .

No, if anyone was wise and had coins from last year they would hang continue to hang onto them as the price is surely going to high $1k per BTC in less than a year, heck it may even go as high as $2k per BTC!

Innovative Mining Solutions

We offer the most realistic mining prices around, due to the increase of Bitcoin along with the expected surge in mining difficulty, we can offer prices that reflect the actual market. We resell new miners that were originally purchased in mass orders by mining companies who were effected by the influx in mining difficulty and delays on shipping.
                                                                      Niels Defoe, CEO
Each Miner is New refurbished, meaning these were opened by their original owner, never used.

We understand our website has numerous errors, we are in our start-up phase, and building customer feed back, hence the low price on the KnC's. Pay pal payments, along with bank transfers, will be available by next week. Many changes to site will be made in coming weeks,
All orders ship within 3 days.

Will be making changes to our website daily.

Are you sure you have your worker setup at the pool and it matches with worker name and password in cgminer? If not you can get the issue you refer to.

I'm positive. It was mining for about 20 minutes then I decided to move it. Nothing since then and none of the settings have been changed. I've power cycled it dozens of times and it doesnt help.

I'm going to take 2 of them home and fool with them over the weekend. I hope to find a simple solution and will post it in this thread if I figure it out.

Thanks for all the suggestions, keep em coming. Smiley

Are you new to mining and Avalons? It kind of sounds like you are.

You should connect to your Avalon's and assign a static IP within your own network and make sure you assign the correct Gateway IP and DNS (usually it's 8.8.8.Cool otherwise they won't hash.

As soon as you log into your Avalon go to the CGminer Status link and you'll see the Firmware revision number.

A good firmware to get is from CK it ends in 0821

TIA

Go buy a PSU and switch it.

It looks like temperature is everything here. Its a 2 degrees celsius here (feeling like -2) and my Mini's temps are much lower thus as you will see the HW% has dropped by 0.2% as normally its 0.8 something.

Here's what my Mini is setup and hashing at:

Here is the API Log to confirm the HW%:

827  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: November 08, 2013, 11:42:27 AM
[Device Hardware%] => 1.2546

[Device Hardware%] => 1.5117

[Device Hardware%] => 1.5826

[Device Hardware%] => 1.8470

yes CK firmware i only use --quiet

Try it with your count at 24 see if that makes and difference.

Is there any reason why a couple of payouts from Bitminter over the last few days would be still stuck at "still not confirmed...seen by 4 peers" and everything else is been accounted for?

Thanks.

How come bitcoin exchanges prices in USD or CAD aren't consistent between each other?

When I look at cavirtex.com it's always out about about $25 price compared to other exchanges that I found from doing google searches.

Thanks

found module dead and unplug it and you can run again with only one module

my 4 mini work fine at 400 and little more 403mhz. only one at 398 because at 400 alot of hw.

very very cool enviroment? you are not on --avalon-auto?
i'd say its stretching it unless its very cool..

in an uninsulated attic with wide open for 2 mini  and 2 -4 modules -- all 4 in wifi

and same setup in another an uninsulated attic with wide open -- all 4 with ethernet cable

all front window in the airstream

the temperature depends attics outdoor temperature

i can do a picture if you want and check temperature.

the better mini i have i set at 404mhz with 1.5% hw and rarely restard alone or by me. 2 other at 403mhz with 1.5% hw and one at 398mhz and 1.5hw

i prefer my mini 2 modules instead 4 modules for sure. better performance for sure and more stable. rarely restart alone.

i not use --avalon auto

And your using the CK firmware? The 1.5% HW seems a bit high for 400Mhz, I get 0.8% on my Mini at 400Mhz.

Yes you need a cold environment to pull off 400Mhz and above, so why not get yourself one of those big freezers that DQ uses and stick your Avalon's in there? They deep freeze ice cream without its becoming stale, if you live in warm/hot place. Smiley

one of my mini's has died!

i woke up to find it had 0gh/s on the pool so i logged in to try to reboot from the interface. rebooting didnt help so i just turned off the device, waited 10 mins and tried to turn on again.

when i turned on the fans went on for a bit as usual when you turn on, but then i smelled strong scent of something being burnt. i then switched off and waited about an hr to try again, this time the fan doesnt even turn and then i see some gray smoke coming out from the air exit area, i have shut it off and pulled the plug right now, anyone have this happen to them before? what are the possibilities?

do you guys think i can fix this and have it run again?

please help me troubleshoot!

i was running 0821 firmware at 400mhz.

I had the same thing happen with two of my batch 3 units. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to fix this unless you can isolate specifically what part on the PCB died and replace it. This would require some skills that not everyone posses. If it's a blown capacitor it might be a lot easier to fix.

I am hoping that the Avalon team would introduce Avalon modules with their new 55nm chips so I can just swap the old cards with new ones, but who knows if and when this will happen.

so should we refrain from running on 400mhz then? my mini is only 2 weeks old, if even that.

is 400mhz unsafe for mini to be running?
I would not recommend running them over 375
i have 6 running at 375 and they all work fine no problems at all
and I'm still getting 56 Ghz on each

You should really do the following if you plan to go over 375Mhz on these minis.

1. confirm they were shipped with 850W Gold PSU's
2. stick them in a cold place, like a cold room or your attic if you live in a city that gets snow this time of the year.

My mini's temps are: 16/47/39

Hi All,

I just thought of purchasing 60 GH/s AVALON ASIC BITCOIN MINER MINI hardware.

Can you just provide some feedback about the product and let me know is it good choice going for it

I would hold off if I was you. The way mining is going with the difficulty going up by 40% every 10 to 15 days, currently you need just over 1TH/s to produce 1BTC a day. I going to bet if the difficulty keeps going up this quickly that in the next 8 to 12 months we may see the requirement for 1BTC get close to 1PH/s.

834  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: AVALON ASIC BITCOIN MINER MINI on: November 07, 2013, 12:40:02 AM
Actually, even for 4 BTC, it can't ROI. For next 10 days it will make you about 0.08 BTC per day, and if everything goes like before 0.05 the 10 days after that. If you do the calculation and substract the power it uses, it will never pay for self.

Regardless if you calculate the power or not it will never pay for itself with the way the difficulty is going up!

Read through this thread for a detailed history of the Avalon units and how they operate:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=140539.0

Keep in mind that the units use 600 watts.  Depending on where you live this can be expensive compared to the amount of BTC they can generate.

Actually my unit came with an Evermax 850W GOLD PSU. So the 600 watt figure may not apply to ever Mini out there. Smiley
836  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 38 th/s BTC miner on the way.. on: November 07, 2013, 12:35:45 AM
I just got word from a new company that will be bringing us a 38 th/s BTC miner . I could not help myself and wanted to share the NEWS. Email from the company came about 20 minutes ago to us at  BitcoinSniper.com We will keep you updated . I remember being in awe over the first 5 gh/s miner .NOW what was thought to be the Pinnacle of Asic bitcoin mining hardware . I have found we are just scratching the surface .The final month of this year will truly shake up our bitcoin world and the people who want to stay ahead of the DIFF. The 38 gh/s will be the larger unit but two additional smaller units will be ready for purchase . Both Devices will be above 5 th/s
.Pricing will be affordable in compare to current hardware pricing  dynamics. NOTICE: we at bitcoinsniper.com will not be manufacturing this device . We simple review and provide information . In first communication with company I asked "deliver date" to make sure we would not have a BFL fumble. They stated "Day we launch shipping will be a week to eight days later".

Tip:you might want to think about pooling funds together with 5-10 people for the larger unit .Even with current DIFF ROI will not be hard

Thank you for reading and lets continue to move forward to Greatness with Bitcoin

My next Question for you is what will the effects of these massive RIGS do to the current network and community. Your opinion please?

Even if someone could manufacture a 38TH/s mining rig the likelihood of being able to run at your house will be very slim that you will need to run inside a co-location somewhere. Co-lo space isn't cheap, you not only have to pay for the rack space, buy you have to power for power; I have seen some companies charge as little as $250 per 20A circuit per month and I have seen some companies charging closer to $600 a month for a single 20A, plus you have to pay for internet.

Somebody just kicked us up over 250 TH/s.

It wasn't me, but I did just order more hashing power.

I have noticed that other pool sites have increased by 200+ GH/s in the last week. I sure hope you have invested in at least 1TH Wink

What's Bitminter's server time based on, which time clock?

It shows that it's the 6th already yet its still 10:00PM EST on the 5th of November.

I think most of the world runs on UTC.

The world doesn't run on UTC time, otherwise there wouldn't be need a for time zones. Tongue

"Avalon ASIC Mining Chip: A3255 Auction
500 chips, 1.5-1.6 GH/s (standard), 0.9V, 2.0W
Thank you for your interest in this auction; the auction has now closed. The Clearing Price for this product was 2.21 Bitcoin. Bidders will be contacted within 24 hours, from the close, to be notified of their status. Products will be shipped within 72 hours of the close of the auction."

Wow, some amateurs! reused the winning bid on the mini auction and put it on the chip when auction closed without winners..

I don't get it.  What bidders?

I guess no one bid on these chips? I didn't really get involved this time as I heard butterfly chips where (2-3GH/s and at 2watts). I hope YiFU is reading this. Smiley

840  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: YIFU IS AUCTIONNING? on: November 06, 2013, 03:23:19 AM

edit: Also, these things actually seems to have a bit of headroom. Been running a 2 units at 390 for 2 hours without issues atm, next step 400!

ditto, pretty stable at 61.5 GH/s for about 2 hours now.

I am running mine at 400Mhz, 63GH/s for over a day HW% 0.8251
