821  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: YES, you can get a REFUND from BFL on: August 03, 2013, 02:25:28 AM
If Paypal can seriously reverse an ACH transaction all the way back from the beginning of the year, Im going to be impressed. These are both companies Im not big fans of, but in this case I will actually give Paypal major kudos if they can get my $,$$$ back. The lesser of two evils, and they lose their fee for enabling BFL scumbags  Grin

I think now Im much better off just taking the dough and buying BTC or LTC with it. I dont think BFL will deliver any 2013 orders for Singles before 2014, at which point the difficulty will likely be so high (150-300M+) that making back my investment may not be possible.
822  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-07-31 Bitcoin Exchange Mt. Gox Still Grappling With Slowdown on: August 01, 2013, 06:28:47 PM
I guess this is why they delayed Litecoin support.... again. *SIGH*
823  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Large bitcoin mining farm mining 4 blocks a day having made 1600BTC on: August 01, 2013, 06:15:41 PM
Im also guessing BFL. This was right around the time they finished their Single prototype.

I mean, it makes a lot of sense given all we know at this time (Aug 1st). They would definitely go to a lot of trouble to hide their efforts.
824  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs shipping 300 units a day on: August 01, 2013, 03:07:53 PM
It looks like nobody who ordered in 2013 will get their order this year, if ever - or get their investment back on their purchase.

Pretty cool stuff. I applaud anyone who cancelled their order as having great foresight.

really great, thanks for linking
826  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for good poker player on: July 29, 2013, 10:59:09 PM
Yeah, for small stakes you are probably best off buying pieces of people using sealsdeals.

I play on Seals a lot, and while there is money to be won (Im up a lot of coins on the site), you have to understand the risks are substantial. Its not uncommon for winning players to go on losing streaks. Furthermore, anyone accepting this offer is likely to have lost their entire bankroll at some point in the past. If they still had a bankroll, why would they be looking for a backer?

I would consider doing it but only to play the highest stakes on the site: 50-100 NL up through 150-300 (buy ins of 10-30 BTC).

So, if you have at least 100+ BTC to play with I would consider doing it, Im not looking to risk such a % of my own bankroll on those stakes - yet.
827  Economy / Goods / Re: Anonymous reloadable VISA cards with own IBAN on: July 22, 2013, 06:43:19 AM
Im interested, but I would like a clear explanation of how to load the card, check the balance, etc, step by step. Thank you
828  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: AirBNB.com on: July 21, 2013, 12:01:01 AM
Bump! Keep requesting BTC as a payment method for both hosts (from AirBnB) and guests (to AirBnB)
829  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Anyone thinking about the possibility to sue BFL ? Bring the scammers to justice on: July 20, 2013, 11:43:36 PM
I have an idea, how about instead of spending time and money trying to get them out of business, we wait until they deliver our products.

Just an idea.
830  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs shipping 300 units a day on: July 19, 2013, 06:17:48 AM
BFL isnt shipping 300 units a day... they might be shipping 30 units day, on a good day.

What is really annoying for people like me is that I ordered 3 Jalepenos in the first couple of weeks.  They should have arrived and paid for themselves by now, but I UPGRADED my order to the better mini single, which no one has yet seen!!.

I wish I could down grade my order again.  Id be much better off.

Ouch, thats really painful! Once again human nature betrays our best interests...

I fear this is a trend which will lead to our downfall. The Earth will be around long after we are gone though.

The concept of "Earth Day" is kind of funny. As if its The Earth that needs saving... lmao
831  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Sapphire dual-x 7970 issue 15LTC for solution. on: July 15, 2013, 10:26:13 PM
I dont have a 7970 but I would try adjusting the voltage on both core and mem, and see what happens.

Intensity 17-18 is usually the sweet spot for my 7950s, with a 1:1.5 core to mem speed ratio.

If this helps you, PM me I can give you my LTC address :-)
832  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin overheating 95C - 100C? bad for ATI? on: July 15, 2013, 12:08:57 PM
As much airflow as possible helps. 95 is hot, but I think the GPU should be OK. Its the fans running at 100% that tend to go first.
833  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Video Card Repair - Dead Fan! Jury-Rig Fix It Up or Pay $$$ for New Cooler? on: July 14, 2013, 10:17:45 PM
So the fan died on one of my MSI 7950s - not the awesome Twin FrozrII but the basic crappy one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127737&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-Desktop+Graphics+Cards-_-N82E16814127737&gclid=CKqbq8H-r7gCFYyd4AodAiQANA

So I took everything apart and the fan is very stiff and it feel like I will probably break it off if I try to pull it off from the plastic casing.

So I have a few options:

1. Buy an expensive aftermarket cooler for $70: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Arctic-Cooling-Accelero-Xtreme-7970-VGA-Cooler-Support-AMD-Radeon-7970-7950-/350825593466?pt=US_Video_Card_GPU_Cooling&hash=item51aed5ba7a

2. Buy a replacement stock cooler for $30: http://www.ebay.com/itm/75mm-VGA-Video-Card-Fan-For-MSI-R7950-4Pin-0-50A-FD8015U12S-278-/121135629515?pt=US_Video_Card_GPU_Cooling&hash=item1c343f04cb

3. Make my own cooler from a 80mm case fan for $3: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-IDE-Black-80mm-Chassis-Crystal-Fan-for-Computer-PC-Host-5844-/190645117960?pt=US_Computer_Case_Fans&hash=item2c6355a408

By far my first choice is to make my own replacement, but in the past when I did this I had a couple of issues. One, the larger 120mm case fan doesnt fit flush against the heatsink, and ends up being very bulky, and I have to have the fan blow INTO the heatsink because its very inefficient trying to draw air OUT without any casing.

So Im looking at the 80mm or 60mm. Now, I think I could fit these (def 60mm) flush against the heatsink, but with a smaller fan I dont know if blowing IN will be enough cooling, so Im considering how to fabricate my own casing for it to optimize airflow. The first thing I thought of was aluminum foil, as I can mold it to the exact shape I want and it wont be affected by the heat. However, it is conductive! Is there any way around this? If Im careful and dont have it touch the main board, do you think it would be OK?
834  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BFL_Josh - "Then stop asking for updates, it's that simple." on: July 14, 2013, 12:15:00 PM
For BFL to clear their backlog before 2014 its gonna take a miracle, I could easily see them not clearing the backlog for another 8-12 months.

At which point, you will have an "option" to apply your old order to an "upgraded" V2 ASIC, for a few $ more. Will be shipping within 2 weeks. Promise.
835  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Simple argument for FPGA on: July 14, 2013, 12:12:31 PM
It is clear to me that manufactured ASIC's will always sell for more than they are worth (in returns)

Mining always has and always will be premised on the fact that BTC will be worth more in the long term future than it is today.

Dont forget, in 2009-2010 people mined before BTC was worth anything.

Finally, BTC that you mine are 100% untraceable and anonymous. Its very hard to buy BTC anonymously these days in the USA.

Its a grinders game, not for people looking to make a quick buck. For those people, I suggest day trading or playing poker on Seals With Clubs.
836  Economy / Economics / Re: Economics of mining today on: July 08, 2013, 07:57:51 PM
The motives of the miners are highly varied. Some people mine and immediately convert to fiat to pay expenses or buy more mining gear, others mine and hold, some mine and trade the BTC for other currencies (fiat and crypto) on sites like BTC-e, and some mine and gamble with the proceeds on sites like Seals With Clubs...

Then there are people like me who would mine even if it had a negative expected value, just to help secure the network and retain the value of the coins I already hold...
837  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC Utilty "The Hooker Point" on: July 08, 2013, 07:52:50 PM
Hookers/strippers also have a lot more incentive to accept BTC than fiat, especially credit cards, which many escort services accept.

Also think of the customer: Eliot Spitzer never would have gotten caught if he had paid using BTC, and would now be Governor of NY State, instead of being a disgraced consultant.
838  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASIC resale value on: July 08, 2013, 06:55:09 PM
Even if I just break even vs electric cost with my ASIC, thats fine as Im very long on BTC and fine holding them for years...

Mainly I mine to help secure the network which currently holds my coins; the fact that I generate a few coins here and there is just a bonus.
839  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Any interest in a hosting service? And what would you pay? $0 electricity costs on: July 08, 2013, 06:47:57 PM
You dont even have the electricity to host more than 3-4 machines, let alone cool them, you probably have 1 20amp breaker for the whole room.

Let alone the fact that the machines will probably get a beer bong spilled on them, and will have to be shut down during your vacations...

Just use it for yourself, get a couple LTC mining rigs...
840  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Obtaining Bitcoins Anonymously in The USA on: July 08, 2013, 05:57:02 PM
I guess you can buy a prepaid Visa card and send $ to BTC-e that way? I think they sell $500 cards, I hadnt considered that.
