841  Economy / Marketplace / Obtaining Bitcoins Anonymously in The USA on: July 08, 2013, 05:53:19 PM
So I went to buy some cheap $65 BTC yesterday at Bitinstant, as I had done in the past. Sure Im paying a decent fee but its straight cash to BTC. I did this a bunch in the past. Now I see they have a formal ID verification process, like Im applying for a freaking home loan or something. Basically, they fully complied with the feds because it was that or fold up shop. So, you cant buy BTC anonymously through any type of company as a USA resident because they need to comply with FinCEN and AML laws.

So as far as I know, you can only get anonymous bitcoins:

1. Mining (the grinders game - "slow and low, that is the tempo, unless you gots, a jalapeno" [R.I.P Adam Yauch])
2. Person to person $ for BTC transactions (face to face or over the net)
3. Selling products or services for BTC (probably the fastest and most secure way, but you needs good margins/markup on what you sell)
4. Win them gambling (Seals With Clubs etc - this is how I got the bulk of mine)
842  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BFL Cash Flow Problems & Difficulty Increases on: July 06, 2013, 03:25:59 PM
If they are in fact mining with pre-orders they could be shipping, it's a truly dickish and morally corrupt move.

you're right, that would be totally out of character!

843  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Has butterfly started shipping the 25 GH and 50 GH devices ? on: July 06, 2013, 03:16:08 PM

I understand currently the shipping of 5 GH devices  started with orders from oct 2012.

Have shipments of  25 GH and 50 GH devices started  ? Any guess on expected shipment if order was made this month. ?

Its a good thing you are up to speed on whats been happening!

Cliff notes: you are better off setting your money on fire and snorting the ashes than sending this company your money today.

They're cute, Im considering getting a few just to give as gifts. I dont think they have value beyond that, but its a cool BTC promotional tool.

PM me if you have 2-3 to spare.

847  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Bitcoin Centralizes Profit in the Hands of Miners on: July 05, 2013, 10:40:08 PM
Mining sucks man, its a grinders game of low, slow returns. And the miners secure the network, protecting your coins, they do you a favor.

If you have $25k to invest, I would easily suggest just buying $25k in BTC over buying $25k in mining gear, its not even close, esp at these prices ($70).
848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin bridge - Ripple on: July 04, 2013, 10:53:32 PM
Ripple is entirely superfluous. Why would I need a Ripple account to send BTC when I can send BTC using Bitcoin QT, or Coinbase?

Ripple is against everything that Satoshi Nakamoto envisioned with Bitcoin. Its simply an attempt to cash in on Bitcoin's popularity, and WILL FAIL.

Ripple is absolutely not against everything Satoshi Nakamoto envisioned. You definitely need to open your eyes and think a little harder. Ripples adds an excruciating amount of utility to bitcoin and electronic transactions as a whole.

I dont need Ripple to exchange for USD or LTC. Thats what BTC-e is for. And I trust BTC-e a lot more than Opencoin, at least fontas is open about being purely profit driven.

849  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikimedia is irrational in not accepting Bitcoin payment on: July 04, 2013, 10:49:27 PM
Bitpay is cool and all, but big companies MUST accept BTC for it to survive and thrive. We need to start a campaign for Wiki to accept BTC!!!!
850  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Prices Crashing Now! on: July 04, 2013, 10:45:37 PM
Im buying, great opportunity. How many investments can you expect such a huge return on?

I dont trade, I just buy when its cheap, and Ive made a killing doing this.
851  Economy / Economics / Re: What would you do with 10K USD in Bitcoin on: July 03, 2013, 11:26:00 AM
Buy 100 BTC, put it in a cold wallet and be patient.

854  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MC2 ("Netcoin"): A cryptocurrency based on a hybrid PoW/PoS system on: July 02, 2013, 09:23:58 PM
Crowdfunding sounds good, and although Im fine throwing a couple hundred LTC towards NTC seeing the light of day with nothing expected in return, if the dev budget and continual improvement of Netcoin requires $100k+ in funding, Im not sure if hundreds of others will do the same. Although I really hope that the crypto community comes out bigtime for this, because NTC has huge, HUGE potential. Im sure Satoshi himself would be (and probably is) proud of Taco and his awesome effort to do this, besides his massive contribution to crypto via GUI Miner.

Tacotime for President! Netcoins as the currency. Peace on earth.

Can someone give me the cliffnotes on how they decided to fund development? Im all for supporting this in any way possible.

856  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL order on: July 02, 2013, 11:50:58 AM
I don't think Foxconn would ever deal with them, the worker suicide rate would be 500x higher.

I lol'd, does that make me a bad person?  Undecided

If they had Josh as a guest plant manager, it would be like lemmings off the rooftops!

(OK I am a bad person  Grin)
857  Other / Off-topic / Re: Sonny Vleisides' finally sticking it up his investors' asses! on: July 02, 2013, 11:45:31 AM
Actually, Im really rooting for them, because it would be terrible for BTC if they went down with 85% preorders unfilled. Disaster.

Meh if they go down it will be lots of short term pain for a lot more long term gain IMO.  Disaster for a bunch of miners, ya probably, disaster for BTC, not a chance in hell!

Well, I actually am one of those who thinks ASIC is good for BTC, because a sky high hashrate means the network is virtually impenetrable to attack. Which means our coins are safe. Which means the price will go up.

However, I also think that the ASIC market needs to be competitive to thrive, and BFL definitely has some very competitive products in terms of price/performance, and products which anyone can buy, like the Jalapeno.

If BFL were to go down with 85% unfulfilled, yes BTC would survive and come out fine over time, but I think it would be very bad PR short term. BTC already has enough negative associations with scamming and scummy ripoffs, I want to see the legit ones thrive, so Im rooting for BFL.

If there was a Jalapeno in every town in America, Europe, and China, BTC price would explode, because everyone would be talking about have their "piece of the pie," and right now we need positive PR and more awareness of BTC so that more business accept it.

These will make AWESOME card protectors for live poker, I plan on buying a dozen just to give to friends and family, and Im sure all my poker buddies will want one when they see them. Great conversation piece too, and great way to promote Litecoin.

If you put it right next to the output of an A/C unit, I wonder if it could be overclocked to safely do 70+?
