861  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you guys think of fundraising with BTC? on: June 16, 2014, 07:13:21 PM
I dont understand question to be honest.
Fundrasing with BTC is identical to fundrasing with fiat, it is only more convenient, and easyer to do if it's "across the border" thing.
It's same as asking : "What do you guys think about fundrasing". If you have goal, and you think that ppl will be willing to help, give it a try!
862  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some online gold dealers will not accept tumbled or shared coins on: June 16, 2014, 07:10:49 PM
That would be just silly. After some time (just like with fiat) everyone would have part of BTC related to this crime or that. If i have 100 BTC and i send 1 BTC to someone, i'd like to see someone proving that exactly THAT 1 BTC is part of some money laundering, and not one of other 99 BTC.
BTC is just nowrking THAT way...
863  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin not decentralized anymore? on: June 16, 2014, 06:56:57 PM
I guess the more power that is out there the stronger the network becomes, but still...
That is not case i'm afraid.

As we could all witnessed few days ago, network is not safer with ASIC's than it was before them. If ASIC's were never made, we would have 1000x more active miners than we have now.
It would be same investment (or maybe even bigger) for someone to produce enough GPU's to attack that network as it is now (to produce enough ASIC's to attack network).

And history has shown, that, to attack network, you don't need to build 1 single chip (gpu or ASIC). All you need is high quality pool that makes money out of that network anyway, and you can control network like it's yours. Ain't that just silly situation?

Makes you head spin when you think about it.

"How to attack Bitcoin network" DIY guide:
1) Create mining pool
2) Remove mining fee's, but offer secondary product related to mining on which you will make insane amount of money
3) Keep making money and attracting miners
4) Once you have enough hash power, execute attack

That way you 1) Make shitload of money and 2) Attack BTC network
And naive ppl are counting how much $$$ attacker would have to spend on "new hardware".  Cheesy

You guys need magnifying glasses....you cant go w/o magnifying glasses!

Tho, cool idea  Wink
865  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what is the first question you would ask, if you met Satoshi Nakamoto? on: June 16, 2014, 06:45:10 PM
I'd ask him: "Why to hell did you leave your child alone? It needs you more than ever!"
And than punch him in the face....
866  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Hardware - It's really hard to buy mining hardware on: June 16, 2014, 05:21:32 PM
If it's not pre order (you have to know who you pre order from) it is not profitable. It's pure and simple loosing money. So, it is better to buy coins and hold. As simple as that.
867  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fake Bitcoin on: June 16, 2014, 01:36:25 PM
if you stick with the main proper wallets there is no chance of doing any fake bitcoin.

if you use a different wallet. then that 'fake' is..... just another altcoin.

if its not bitcoin, its an altcoin, simple as.

a prime example is bitcoin script, bitcoin 2.0 both of which pretend to be bitcoin, but are not

What if someone made a a complete replica and starting a phishing website similar to the fake blockchain.info or they made a new bitcoin wallet websitethat was on google, so people created accounts there thinking it was the real bitcoin, when it was the fake bitcoin, and they let the scam go on for a while until the site gained a lot of activity, and they   eventually convinced exchanges to update their wallets to the fake bitcoin wallets on the site, thus spreading the fake bitcoin even more.

That's called hard fork. Once majority of users use that version it becomes real bitcoin  Shocked
868  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin Experts Aren’t Afraid of a 51% Attack on: June 16, 2014, 12:43:08 PM
Clearly no pool has any incentive to mount a 51% attack so please can we forget about that?

So, what *is* the incentive of ghash.io? They aren't charging any fees. Why are they paying for setting up a mining network that controls so much of the mining power out their own pocket and then just give it away for free? If anyone wants to do a 51% attack this would be the cheapest way to do it.

You need to go to their site and youll see that they are earning ton of money. But stilleven with that, we "have to trust em" and that's exactly opposite of what btc was made for.
869  Economy / Economics / Re: $50k to Invest - Convince Me! on: June 16, 2014, 12:00:17 PM
I have just allocated some serious money and thinking about investing about $50k on bitcoin. Someone convince me why I should buy $50k worth of bitcoins right now!

If you need someone to convince you to invest into something, than you should NOT invest!
You should invest into something you understand and if you need convincing, than you don't understand BTC at all. Plus....what if you'r investment, for a reason or two fails...that you can blame others for convincing you? That's not the way it goes. Your money, your decision, your responsibility.
870  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Holiday Inn launched Bitcoin trial in New York on: June 16, 2014, 11:56:29 AM
Good, good, with all problems btc had at very start of the year, this is song for tired ears. More businesses, more "visibility", more users.
871  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's already 48%, No one care about Ghash? on: June 16, 2014, 10:22:50 AM
Why everybody talk about 51 %? 50.00001 % is not enough?

The term 51% is "hype" word, actually 40% would be enough to make serious trouble.
You mean 40% is enough to get past some confirmations with a decent success rate?
51% is like doomsday for bitcoin though.
And really all of these stated numbers should be 20% lower given that aprox 20% of the share is unknown.
If Ghash has 31% we should still be worried

I totally agree.

I remember that BTCguild took action when they got over 35%, they raised the pool share fee, and made sure miners would go to other pools, very responsible of them, I respect that very much.
I have absolutely no respect for GHash.IO, they should have add a fee long time ago.

That's one of the main reasons people choose GHash.IO. That and merged mining of three more altcoins.
Eligius offers merged mining of NMC and also has 0% fees. People should switch there at least.

This is a flaw in bitcoin itself. CEX.IO today.........China, Russia, USA tomorrow.

This! It's protocol problem that should be blamed on protocol, not on ghash, and should be fiexd on protocol level. Ex lead dev said he has code in place to fix it if it evers becomes reality. Ok, maybe that code is not perfect, but still, can't they work on it, and than deploy it BEFORE it happens? What kind of protocol keepers are they if they will let it get hit before they act on it...tha'ts just not smart.

It's the code for a hard fork. We're better off not having to use it. But unfortunately, if a 51% attack happens, we'll have to hard fork the chain.

So basicly, it's better to let shit happen, than to act on it before it happens? Shit that can kill or cripple BTC?
Wouldn't it be better to prepair everyone in advance? Make some dead line, update clients months ahead etc, and than execute hard fork?

I cant see how doing it that way could be wors than attack happening and than changing protocol in rush....what can go wrong with that i wonder...

Wolfram Alpha was at it long before Google and Yahoo. But yeah, nice to have all info in one place.
874  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ‘Bitcoin Jesus’ Calls Rich to Tax-Free Tropical Paradise | #bitcoin #jesus on: June 16, 2014, 09:24:53 AM
Maybe Snowden will finally be able to travel. Perhaps we should set up a kickstarter to raise the $250k?
He just needs to find way to get out of that building w/o getting arrested. Another citizenship cant save him as long as he's on land of country that wants to arrest him.
875  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ‘Bitcoin Jesus’ Calls Rich to Tax-Free Tropical Paradise | #bitcoin #jesus on: June 16, 2014, 09:23:08 AM
Damn, i need to get more BTC...i want this!
876  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bloomberg (Video) Government Sanctioning Bitcoin With FBI Auction on: June 16, 2014, 01:02:31 AM
Well, of course they are legalizing it this way. Imagine, you buy it and some time after you sell pat of it and want to withdraw your money out of the bank. You get into the bank and the ask you: "Sir, where did you get this money". You say: "FBI". How cool that can be  Cool
They have nothing to ask you after that...
877  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More shopfronts accepting BTC in Australia on: June 16, 2014, 12:59:07 AM
This is just great. More places like this, where ppl come every day will see BTC sign and at least aks themselves: "wtf is this" and google it up and some percent will get int ot for reason or two. More merchants, even those that sell BTC that was used in stransaction trough bitpay or similar, better BTC acceptance, which in long run means better price for us all.

880  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin Experts Aren’t Afraid of a 51% Attack on: June 15, 2014, 07:31:07 PM
Sorry, but that post does not make my worries go away (not that i have many at the first place but sitll...).
There is nothing "definitely" in all of this explanations, nothing that can assure anyone. They are telling us that it's not probable that it would happen and that they have safety mesure but they wont use it until shit hits the fan. It's like knowing for hole in your system, but not deploying patch to fix it untill someone ectualy exploits it. I'm not software expert, but this really sounds so....not samrt (wont use that other much stronger word).
