Why does liberty always come down to the discussion of roads?

There have been roads for centuries. Government does not have a monopoly on the road idea.

Personally, I knew I was finally and fully convinced of liberty when I finally believed that a free society would still have roads.  It was one of the last holdouts in my thinking.

When you believe that government (force) is not necessary even for the building of roads, then you know you are finally cured of the meme.

But who will produce all of the government cheese-product?

We both use google docs,

Ive been doing google spreadsheets for bitcoin projects since 2011, but Ive never had anyone have a problem logging in. *there is no logging in actually

I would be very surprised if he was able to load your spreadsheet and not mine.

*Additionally, with cryptoswap your orders are placed through a private form (link is on thread & in spreadsheet) and not out in public. Even more so, I actually escrow orders, and label funded and non funded orders as such. This means That green orders are funded and there is no need for communications and additional time when they are matched with a user. Non funded orders are temporary, and will be canceled if they are not funded the same day (really should just fund when you make an order to cut down on people "changing their mind" or "Going Broke" in the mean time).

For WiseOldOwl and Anon136,

Neither of your pages will load with Firefox, cookies and javascript enabled, from URL posted here or in PM. Using FF 20.0.1. One does load with IE but doesn't display correctly and I don't know how to navigate. Will PM both of you separately. Thanks.

I've had no problems viewing either of their pages with Firefox 20.0.1

and what if i don't subscribe to the NAP.
Remember what I said about rights being reciprocal?

If you don't subscribe to it, you're not protected under it. If you aggress, expect resistance.

This answer can't be improved on.

So, for example, you can choose socialism.  What you can't do, in a libertarian society, is choose that for other people.
and what if im unhappy with that?
I'm sorry if you can't get along without it.  But that's not my problem. Cheesy
so you are essentially forcing me, not to force other people?

Responding to force with force would be appropriate.  You would be the initiator, and anyone responding with force (proportionately) would be defending themselves.

Tell you what; I let you drive on my road free of charge, if you'll let me drive on yours.
there are now 3 options:
A. Allow anyone to pass your road.
B. Make separate agreements with every single person on the planet
C. A road association(ie. central authority)

False trichotomy. Smiley

I don't get why you would need to force choices on other people in order to be happy in life.

And so, if you are unhappy with not having power, then I don't care to try to bring about your happiness in life.  If that's genuinely how you feel, you can just suck it, y'know?

Power truly does make people happy.  It's fun to have control over others, particularly life or death control.  It's intoxicating, and corrupting.

I'm sorry if you can't get along without it.  But that's not my problem. Cheesy

it would be much better

We are all entitled to our opinions about what is better in life, but that doesn't entitle us to force our opinions on other people.

I think it will be much better for you if you never spend your Bitcoin on gambling or drugs.  Should I then use force to make sure that you do what is best for you in life?  Can I use this kind of force for anything that I think is better?  Why are there some subjects where we can force what is "better," and in other subjects that would be wrong?  What if we have different opinions about what "better"s we can use force for?

It would be better if people don't smoke.  It's measurably, objectively better.  Should we use force to bring about what is better in this regard?
889  Other / Politics & Society / Re: This is the thread where you discuss free market, americans and libertarianism on: April 15, 2013, 09:28:04 PM
it would be much better, if we all just decided to make roads, and then force people to pay.

What is this "we" you speak of?  Are we married?  If so, is there a procedure for divorce?
890  Other / Politics & Society / Re: This is the thread where you discuss free market, americans and libertarianism on: April 15, 2013, 09:26:15 PM
Compromises must always be made. I don't think i would be happy in a libertarian society, it would be way too chaotic.

In a libertarian society, you would have the right to choose whatever society you want to live in, and choose whatever order you want.

If such choices are not open to you, then that society is not truly "libertarian."

So, for example, you can choose socialism.  What you can't do, in a libertarian society, is choose that for other people.

You could choose to pledge allegiance to the flag, or pay taxes to an institution that you believe protects and promotes order.  What you couldn't do is make that choice for other people.

I truly can't understand why anyone would have a problem with that arrangement, unless they believe that in order to be happy in life they need to get their way at the expense of other people.  We can and should be able to live by leaving each other alone, and you can live a quite ordered life.  My "disorder" shouldn't affect you. Smiley  (And in fact, in my corner of the world, I might view you as the "disordered" one. Smiley )

I can't until I'm back home
Also guys consider the possibility that luke-jr may use his pool (eligius) to attempt a 51% attack like he did with coiledcoin

Yes, take a break and buy a few dozen ASIC units and build a big hash farm before you go too much further. Wink
892  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do you create an altcoin? on: April 15, 2013, 05:13:53 PM
I expected at least one alt-coin developer to see this thread and respond, but I am feeling now that they won't do it purely so a new alt-coin does not replace theirs, even if we are newbs here.

I don't think it matters, as you guys are clearly on your way to becoming altcoin developers.

There is an enlightenment that happens in programming, when you hit a point where you realize that, given enough time, you could figure out / code anything, on your own.  You could write a new OS kernel if you wanted, or an office application suite.  Or build a new genesis block.

I wouldn't be surprised if the eventual output of this thread is a standalone, tweakable genesis block generator application.
893  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What actually prevents the substitution of old blocks? on: April 15, 2013, 01:52:44 AM
Don't be too upset with yourself over this.  Bitcoin requires some specialized technical knowledge to fully understand how it works.  It took me the good part of a year to get the understanding I have, and that doesn't include the several years of learing how to program that made the time shorter.  Granted this information is probably written down somewhere already, but it is as likely as not in a hard to understand format and possibly incomplete.

I agree!  There's a lot of this that you have to go over and over again many times until you see how it works.  And even then, occasionally you'll spot holes like this, and then educate yourself by learning how bitcoin defends against what looked like a vulnerability.
894  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What actually prevents the substitution of old blocks? on: April 15, 2013, 12:45:54 AM
What prevents this is the subsequent blocks.

If you mine a replacement block for block #199999, you change its hash.  Because that hash is stored in block #200000, you'll change the content of that block and have to remine it.  Then you'll have to do the next block and so on, all the way to the end of the chain.  As of this writing, that's another 31375 blocks.  Nontrivial no matter how much brute force you throw at it!

Solving a block doesn't mean brute forcing for a specific hash.  It means brute forcing for a hash in a particular range; many valid hashes would be possible, so it's a much easier problem than looking for a specific hash.  So you can't simply try to solve a modified block #199999 for the same hash as the real #199999; that would be a much more difficult problem.

Have you guys taken a look at this proposal:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=176556.0

The proposal is for Litecoin, but since you guys have a new blockchain(s) in the works, someone might want to try their hand at implementing this as a new coin.
As we are newbies, you can't possible expect us to do something like that now, do you?

I think if you guys can mint a genesis block, you can probably figure that proposal out as well!
896  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is trollcoin (bytecoin) unwittingly the solution to bitcoins scalability issue? on: April 15, 2013, 12:19:54 AM
It will be destroyed by ASICs or get pump and dumped and end up in the crypto scrapbin like other clones.

I think it will get creamed by ASICs at some point.  After that, I think it will eventually recover, or another chain will emerge on identical software.

898  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terracoin Price Recovering on BTC-e on: April 15, 2013, 12:07:05 AM

I'm glad to hear you got some of it back.  I strongly urge everybody not to risk more than they can afford to lose in any market!

I started with a couple small investments between BTC and TRC, and bouncing back and forth, and then going nearly all into TRC just before it made it into BTC-E, I had actually made a pretty nice sum at one point.  Let me tell you that I didn't get to keep it!!  I came out a "mere" couple BTC ahead and am down to <20 TRC.  I'm happy with how it worked out, but I would've been much happier if I'd taken some profit sooner, and I'm very glad I finally did start taking some profit so I could come out ahead.

So I'd take some profit and start paying your mom back!

How's that for now?  I think I'm going to sit down tomorrow and resize all of the above.  For now, you guys get the biggest logo. Smiley

Hi OP, would you be able to add the BBQcoin logo to this from bbqcoin.org please?

Thanks.

Yes, I was working on that right now, actually, but I'm having trouble finding one of suitable size.  I think you cryptocoin developers all conspire to have your logos made at incompatible sizes; the four I have now look terrible, and BBQcoin logo is not going to help, so I think I'm going to have to resize them all, soon. Smiley

Thanks for lifting this coin back up, CaptChadd!  I did a lot of reading last night about what you've done with it the last couple months.
