Fortunately, Liberty Reserve isn't going to go away just because it no longer has a wikipedia article.  Just like Bitcoin didn't go away when it got deleted.

Agora I/O "Etienne"
March 25-27, 2011, ONLINE conference

http://agora.io/etienne/schedule

Quote
What’s an Unconference

Why is Agora I/O an unconference? Good question! (1) There are no fees! (2) You choose the topics. (3) Presentations are selected by participants and not by organizers (it’s open to everyone). (4) Anyone can present and compete for participants. And more!

If you’d like to get on the schedule for a channel, please contact the channel organizer.

Slots are still open, and there's no coverage of bitcoin or digital currencies yet as far as I can tell.
The live presentation will be on Sunday March 27 at 2:00PM EST. You can get a sneak peek at the presentation here:

I want to tell them something like: "Go here, buy some bitcoins with your currency; then send me the coins."

If the reward is worth the effort, here's one method where credit cards are accepted for Liberty Reserve, which  can then be used to buy Bitcoins:

I am very interested in the NBA,so i Collect a lot exquisite pictures about the NBA superstar.

You could try posting a few images on witcoin ...
  http://basketball.witcoin.com
When witcoin's members (witizens) vote up your image post, or reply to it, each actions requires a small amount (0.01 witcoins) as payment.  But then you, as the person who created the post, earn a share of those payments.

Someone might appreciate your image post enough to "support" it with a larger amount.

You might wish to consider doing that!

Incidentally, witcoin did not already have a category for basketball, so I created it.  As the category owner, I earn witcoins for each action (post, vote, reply) that occurs in that category.  I will donate everything that I earn from that category, up to 2 BTC, to your NBA posts.
8868  Economy / Marketplace / Buy Liberty Reserve using Credit Card on: March 19, 2011, 06:43:25 AM
This is likely the most convoluted and expensive way to purchase Liberty Reserve (which can be used to purchase Bitcoins on the exchanges).

There is a phone verification step, so keep that in mind.
Quote
Go to www.AurumAge.com, register and follow these steps:

  • go to deposit money, choose Visa/Master/Spry and enter the desired amount to deposit;
  • then, at SpryPay website click “I agree to the terms” (and read them) checkbox and choose Visa/Master_Card (LiqPay) USD (or other currency)
  • then you will be redirected to LiqPay website where you need to finish the payment by specifying the card details
  • then, LiqPay notifies SpryPay about successful payment, and SpryPay notifies our system, and your casino account is credited accordingly.
  • Cashing out from this account is only possible to LibertyReserve, though, because SpryPay only allows to accept payments, not to send payments… and since there are no requirements to play games before you cashout this casino works as a great instant exchanger.

And there you are, deposit the money into AurumAge casino instantly and they will alow you to cashout to your Liberty Reserve account immediately. This is the fastest service you will get, however SpryPay will take some fee from you.

enable US consumers to use their eligible Visa credit, debit and prepaid accounts to send and receive P2P payments domestically and internationally via the Popmoney service.

MSN Money covered this today:

Quote
If Visa's P2P service is similar to PayClick, a model it rolled out in Australia in 2010, the money will have to be spent through Visa credit, debit or reloadable prepaid cards.

Quote
Send funds directly from their bank account to a recipient's Visa account [after entering the recipient's 16-digit Visa account, e-mail address or mobile phone number.

The banking partners that VISA is using for this capability is CashEdge's PopMoney and also ZashPay.  Transactions with ZashPay cost $0.75 each.

Quote
The P2P pie is huge, and growing quickly.

:)if you have trouble in some business questions or you need some good ideas.

I might be interested in your service.

I would like to know more about payment methods available to the Chinese.  I recently read UnionPay's agreement with CitiBank to allow UnionPay cardholders to use their credit and debit cards in seven other countries in Asia:
  http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-03-10/citigroup-lets-some-asian-merchants-accept-china-unionpay-cards.html

The author of the article didn't specify when that service was expected to be rolled out.  Additionally, the subject of fees wasn't addressed.  I'm curious to know if there will be a surcharge, or instead will the transaction occur at the current exchange rate with no additional fees.

The answers to these questions will likely require a phone call to UnionPay.

For this effort I am willing to pay 1 BTC.  If you complete this, you will then be eligible for another 1 BTC for a task that should likely take you just 5 minutes should you wish to do that task as well.
8872  Other / Off-topic / Re: Another Person 2 Person Payments (e.g., PayPal, Dwolla) network: PopMoney on: March 18, 2011, 09:40:36 AM
PopMoney ("Pay Other People") is similar to PayPal and Dwolla  in that you can make a payment transfer to someone else and they receive an email or SMS text with a link to the site allowing the recipient to register and claim the funds.  PopMoney appears to be an ACH-only payment network, similar to Dwolla.

Announced yesterday was:

CashEdge, Visa partner to extend Popmoney P2P service to debit/credit cards

The capability is expected to become available in the summer of 2011.

8874  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Suggestion: in-store-transactions on: March 17, 2011, 08:59:07 PM
I was hoping that bitcoin P2P or some type of third party bitcoin payment service (e.g., a MyBitcoin or something to that effect) would allow me to conduct cashless buying at a retailer yet still preserve my privacy -- something I don't get when paying with a credit or debit payment card.

Of course, I wasn't considering that technology will make it so that identifying me from my payment method will not be necessary to the retailer, as this demo shows:

Quote
"So as I approach the screen it recognizes my presence using anonymous video analytics.  The sign is intelligent enough to identify my height and my gender."

from:
http://www.practicalecommerce.com/articles/2648-Mobile-Devices-to-Alter-Retail-Landscape-3-Predictions

Of course, once we are comfortable with having a machine identify our gender and height, it is simply a checkbox somehwere that lets it go to the next level:
"would you like to receive coupons for discounts and freebies? [allowing us to store your image to allow us to identify you on a future visit?]"

8876  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Donate your historic bitcoin wallet, for preservation at the museum on: March 17, 2011, 07:52:46 PM
Catherine Eagleton is the Curator of Modern Money at the British Museum.

Quote
She asked to send her examples of anything that should be preserved.

Quote
"she also mentioned in passing how difficult it is to think of ways to preserve World of Warcraft gold pieces or Facebook credits for posterity

  http://digitaldebateblogs.typepad.com/digital_money/2011/03/still-going-strong-after-14-years.html

I'm thinking that a wallet.dat containing the generated bitcoins from a very old block, even if the bitcoins have since been spent, would be a candidate for preservation.

That's all long before I knew of Bitcoin, however.

Her contact info:
  http://www.britishmuseum.org/the_museum/departments/staff/coins_and_medals/catherine_eagleton.aspx

As an aside,

I occasionally see numismatic value of bitcoins discussed.

There are thousands and thousands of early blocks whose generated 50 BTC have not been spent yet.  These will be interesting, because there's no way to tell if the wallet has been copied previously.  Its value will come from knowing how secure it was previously, especially if it has changed hands.

Are virgin bitcoins (generated but never spent) the equivalent of the "uncirculated" grade assessed a physical coin?
8877  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [PATCH] bitcoin scratch-off cards on: March 17, 2011, 07:34:30 PM
I learned of the publication: "Organic Electronics on Banknotes" from the following article:
  http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20827915.200-banknotes-go-electric-to-outwit-counterfeiters.html

The publication is at:
  http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/adma.201003374/abstract
To purchase a 24 hour pass for reading the PDF is $50.

I wrote one of the authors asking if the technology is rewritable, ... thus a note could be re-used after it was spent.  I'll share here if I learn any more on it.  It is not used yet anywhere, however, as far as I know so this is not something that would likely be rolled out anytime soon but I wanted to share what I had come across.
8878  Economy / Trading Discussion / How Bitcoin is Different on: March 17, 2011, 12:44:03 AM
Here's a blog post from Dwolla, contrasting themselves against PayPal.

  http://www.dwolla.org/blog/dwolla-vs-paypal

Simply replacing the word Dwolla with Bitcoin makes a nice FAQ:

Why is DwollaBitcoin the best alternative to Paypal?

Bitcoin allows you to to receive payment directly from Bitcoin balances at an exceptionally low cost. A few nice applications are:

  • If your client selects to pay with Bitcoin, it won’t cost you a percentage based fee to get paid.
  • This allows you to get paid online for larger ticket items and services without losing a significant amount of money on the interchange.
  • You can now use electronic transactions where you could not previously.

Why should your business use Bitcoin?

  • There is a growing group of people using Bitcoin. It makes it easy to find new customers.
  • It doesn’t cost you anything if it goes unused.
  • There are no set up fees, monthly fees, or hidden costs.
  • It will allow you to receive payment for goods or services online even if you do not have a merchant account somewhere else.

The bottom line.

Bitcoin will never replace credit cards and it does not do the same thing Paypal does. Bitcoin is not a credit card/debit card system. However. We do represent a solution to merchants looking for other ways to accept payment electronically. If you want to aviod the interchange fee ( aka. swipe fee & credit card fees ) you can’t use credit or debit cards . You need to use a different service. That service is called Bitcoin.

If your company has not allowed electronic transactions to be used due to the swipe fee, Bitcoin finally gives you a solution. Even when sitting down to write a check keep this in mind. Using Bitcoin is less expensive than mailing a check, or driving it across town.
8879  Other / Off-topic / Re: Free merchant accounts for everybody! Square gets $27.5 million funding on: March 16, 2011, 11:21:34 PM
The banks are turning into formidable competitors:

Now with your consumer U.S. Bank account you can accept a check from a business or individual, scan it with your iPhone (or PC based scanner) and the check is deposited immediately.   The check can then be archived or destroyed.  This is called Remote Deposit and Mobile Remote Deposit.
  http://www.netbanker.com/2011/03/us_bank_launches_both_pc_and_mobile_remote_deposit.html

The charge is $0.50 per check.

This might be something useful to a trader who wishes to accept a check in-person in exchange for bitcoins.  Remote Deposit is still not an irrevocable payment method however, whereas bitcoin transfers are irrevocable so trust will remain a factor when transacting with checks.

This type of service had already been available to JP Morgan Chase bank customers (iPhone only, not PC scanner) and to some customers of USAA bank (mobile and PC).
