8081  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin2Cash having problems? on: August 11, 2011, 11:27:27 AM
a site that does not update their btc value often. Especially one that keeps it at 13.00 for such a long time -_-

Well, the site doesn't set the prices.  What you are seeing is the best price from the unmatched orders, the buy orders (bids) and the sell orders (asks).

The individual orders can be seen here:

LOL Wrong thread, friend...

Any chance of using a source code repository, such as GitHub?

since you are using paypal privately with other users for any service you are not technically violating paypal terms.

"Prohibited Activities
You may not use the PayPal service for activities that relate to transactions that are associated with the following Money Service Business activities: currency exchanges."

That is pretty cut an dried.  They may not know the purpose of a payment, but that doesn't mean the transaction doesn't violate their terms (acceptable use policy):

Currently what are U.S. users doing to get money in and out of USD?  It seems like an incredible pain in the boot with excessive fees and middlemen no matter how you go.

The most convenient method might be to just mail a check.

ExchB:
and HelloBitcoin:

Both will accept a check by mail for deposit of funds into your account.

For withdrawals, both will send you a check and both provide a way to withdraw funds directly to your bank with ACH.

Of course, if the delays are ultimately the issue, mailing a check is no faster and may even be slower.  Sending a bank wire then is still about the only way to be able to get to trade on those funds within about a day.

You might find someone to trade with locally:

8086  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Certain Bitcoins worth more than others? on: August 10, 2011, 05:07:34 AM
The genesis coins haven't been spent yet.

This is going futher offtopic, however,

The block chain (now) starts with block 0.

And the address for the 50 BTC generated is here:

Not only has that coin not been spent, it has received nearly a dozen "tips", adding more than .11 BTC to its balance.

I didn't see this announced in the forum anywhere but ExchangeBitcoins.com now goes by the brand ExchB.

 - http://www.ExchangeBitcoins.com (or http://www.ExchB.com )

The change that I just realized was that funds can be deposited using ING Direct's Person2Person, which, if you have an ING account will be nearly instant (or could be same day, at least) -- which is faster than Dwolla or other methods at other exchanges.

Asset Seizure - Confiscation
Just as an unencrypted Bitcoin wallet is vulnerable to a thief who has access either remotely or physically, the wallet is vulnerable to police in the same way.  They may secure the funds by transferring to a new address under their control, rendering your backups useless.  Even encrypting your wallet may not be good enough protection -- a court order could compel you to divulge your passphrase.

8090  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Fastest way to fund MtGox or other BTC trade sites? on: August 09, 2011, 10:24:43 PM
Right now I only have bank accounts and a paypal account that I can transfer funds to and from online.

You might consider a local trade, where you exchange cash for BTCs in person.

I'm aware of:
 - http://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Ubitex

If you are near a hackerspace, you may find someone with funds who would be willing to trade.  Or perhaps someone who is a member of a Bitcoin-related meetup would do a trade?

8091  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: i have moneypak need pecunix on: August 09, 2011, 09:57:06 PM
can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

You might need to do that in a few steps.

1.) You probably can find someone willing to trade your moneypak for MTGUSD on Mt. Gox.  You might even get 1:1.

2.) You then can create a MTGUSD voucher code and use that at AurumExchagne to purchase LRUSD.  That incurs a 2% fee.

3.) Once you have LRUSD. there are multiple exchanges where that LR USD can purchase Pecunix.

 - WM-Center
 - Lilion Transfer
 - Nanaimo Gold

That is the step where the largest convert rate loss is incurred.

Occasionally, there are individuals trading Pecunix on the #bitcoin-otc marketplace, but currently there are no offers advertised in the #bitcoin-otc's orderbook.

[Update: http://BitcoinBux.com sells Pecunix as well.]
8092  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Certain Bitcoins worth more than others? on: August 09, 2011, 09:04:32 PM
Can certain bitcoins be worth more based on the transaction used?

Just like physical coins and bills have numismatic value, bitcoins from certain blocks could have numismatic value as well.  This could be due to the block's low number, or because the block is special -- such as block 140,000 from a few days ago, which contained the last of the first 1/3rd of all bitcoins to be issued.  Your example, of coin whose immediate parent was part of the 10K BTC pizza purchase, is another.

The problem is that because the coins are data and can be copied, transferring these coins to a new owner without creating a new transaction involves trust that the previous owner will destroy any archives and not spend the coin.  This trust requirement is likely why there is no collectible market yet for bitcoins, and why there probably won't ever be much of one.

Virgin bitcoins (generated but never spent) can have value due to them having no prior history.  If you have generated coins, there is no prior transaction in the blockchain that might be used to help learn your identity.  Though with the current difficulty levels the ability to earn virgin bitcoin from solo mining is getting close to impossible, those in the P2Pool and Eligius mining pools do generate virgin bitcoins directly to the miner and those coins have no prior history.

While there was at one time miners selling virgin bitcoins on the #bitcoin-otc marketplace, those types of offers aren't seen very often anymore, so the conclusion might be made there really isn't much of a market for virgin bitcoin either.

That being said, I'm sure the value of the 50 BTC (plus tips that have since been received) held (presumably) by Satoshi are worth way more than what 50 X $[current market rate] would ever return.

Maybe this is going to be easiest for you:

They offer their service through Skype, AIM or email and accept moneypak.

They advertise a 7% fee, so you'll probably pay about $8.35 per BTC at the current exchange rate through them.  That will get you about 19.76 BTC, .. again, these are guesstimates based on the current exchange rate, which is something that can fluctuate up or down, by the time you transact.

I have 4 BTC and I want 7 EUR for each, via bank transfer (It is a Spanish account).

I've not seen much from this place (e.g., on Twitter or here in the forums), but they supposedly use OpenBank:

8097  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I transfer my btc from bitcoinmarket to mtgox? on: August 08, 2011, 10:20:26 PM
how to get them out of bitcoinmarket and over to mtgox

First you need to set up the account with the withdrawal Bitcoin address:

Accounts -> BTC -> Payment Processors -> BitcoinClient -> Edit
and then paste your Bitcoin deposit address from Mt. Gox

then
Accounts -> BTC -> Withdraw
  Payment Processor: BitcoinClient
  Amount: nn

You might want to try first doing just a small amount to ensure it is working.

When new merchant accounts are verified, Square looks at their social footprint: their Facebook page and number of fans, their Yelp reviews, Twitter followers and retweets, blog posts, Flickr photos, Google Street view, etc. All these things are taken into consideration before a merchant is determined to be a "real" person, and not a dummy account of some sort.

8099  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Email Notification on: August 08, 2011, 07:21:03 PM
Just a quick question. Is there already code that would send an email when BTC are received and the confirmation status of that transaction? I'm considering coding something that would do that, but if it exists, I would be happy to tweak that code rather than start from scratch.

So far, it notifies on 0/unconfirmed, though I had seen something to the effect of the ability to customize the alert with a threshold for the # of confirmations will be a feature coming in a future release.
