What do I have to do to take a look at this in VMware Fusion?  I just get not bootable when using the img file.

Are Idle Warnings going to return?

I've been trying to figure out Idle alerts for 2 days now.  Please tell me it's not me, they are just not available right now. That would make me feel not so incompetent.

Is there a way to change the address where idle alerts are sent? I registered with my email address but I like the alerts to go to my phone.  I put in 2Gh/s, hopes it helps with this round.  Connection is stable and the site easy to use. Nice work.

Is anyone using GUI miner?  I was using it for a while but ssh is more stable than vnc - especially when straining the GPU for mining.  Just seems like a GUI interface may be easier for a lot of people who are unfamiliar with linux.  It was for me anyway.  May be something to think about adding???

I've been fiddling with it to no avail so far in LinuxCoin.

I read where someone got it working using wine but so far I have failed to do so

It would be very beneficial to my efforts to educate my peers to have it running as the linux command line generates instant hostility whenever I mention or show it.

So for now I have to start my show and tell in windows to show the GUIminer.

I'm sure others can improve on this but this is how I installed it:
- Use Synaptic or apt-get to install python-wxgtk2.8 (I just searched python wx in Synaptic and clicked the box)
- in root terminal
Code:
git clone https://github.com/Kiv/poclbm.git
(this will create poclbm directory so don't be in /opt/miners/ when you run it)

- cd into the poclbm directory you just created and run
Code:
python guiminer.py

I have no idea how to make an icon or run it without a terminal window but it's a great program for beginners, as long as you're not using remote access.

Hi,

After I ssh or vnc to my linuxcoin rig, I run aticonfig --odgt --adapter=all or any aticonfig command, the system say:

No protocol specified
ERROR - X needs to be running to perform ATI Overdrive(TM) commands

Can anyone help me?

You can try setting your DISPLAY environment variable.  You can check it by starting a terminal in the GUI and running
Code:
echo $DISPLAY
My scripts write it into a file for use in non-GUI stuff.

I get that error all the time, it is the DISPLAY variable.  Put DISPLAY=:0 before any aticonfig or AMDOverdriveCtrl commands over ssh or vnc.  It should it should look like this
Code:
DISPLAY=:0 aticonfig --odgt --adapter=all
This will solve segmentation fault errors with miners also when using remote access.  May be a better way of setting it, but I'm not great with linux and this works well for me.

I seem to be missing some initial step when using AMDOverdrive and aticonfig on 6950's.  I can get the core clock to adjust but not mem clock or voltage or powertune.  I've tried with the GUI open, with the -b command line to load a saved profile, and with aticonfig --odsc.  All I get is changes to the core clock.

There's a downward adjustment range that I've come up against on my 6950s. If you set the memory too low, it defaults back to 1250. Try taking your memory clock down to 800 and see if that works, then go a bit lower.. then lower..

Thanks this worked down to 800 at 900 core, below 800 it jumps back up to 1250.  Have you had any luck with voltage or powertune?  Or is it set by the core clock?

How can anybody take a currency serious that is dependent on electricity and where the maintenance costs more than what we get in return?

"The Mint estimates it will cost 1.23 cents per penny and 5.73 cents per nickel this fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30. The cost of producing a penny has risen 27% in the last year, while nickel manufacturing costs have risen 19%." - http://www.usatoday.com/money/2006-05-09-penny-usat_x.htm (2006)

I ask that same question everytime I pull change from my pocket.

I've tried several pools and it seems they end up paying aobut the same after a few days of mining, but downtime and fees were a bigger issue for me.  I don't know how anyone deciedes which is the best pool.  I ususally end up staying with bitcoins.lc because their site is easy to use, 0 fees, instant payouts, and I like seeing the estimated 24hrs earnings number.  It would be good to know if anyone has any real advice on pool selection though.

Hi.   <--- that counts as a post right?
912  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: POLL: What's the *real* reason you ever got into Bitcoins? on: July 10, 2011, 02:24:00 PM
To contribute to global warming of course.  If everyone had a mining rig, think of how tropical the world would be.

I would like to post in the linuxcoin thread http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=7374.0 to get help with AMDOverdriveCtrl settings.  The procedures are not working as they were described, and no one is asking the question I need answered.

Thanks
