901  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BBQCoin, the coin you want to eat. on: April 14, 2013, 07:23:52 PM
RBCex is pleased to be the first (I think) exchange supporting BBQcoin.  Come trade your BQCs for BTE, TRC, BTC, LTC.

I'm eager to get some BQCs, and if anyone is feeling generous, I'd love to have some at bGF2K6tMmfHRi2wuNKq38u6z9mYc2zCBYb

RBCex now facilitates exchanging Bytecoin for:

* Terracoin
* Litecoin
* Bitcoin
* BBQcoin
903  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BTC|TRC|BTE|LTC] RBCex: Exchange Terracoin, Bytecoin, and Litecoin on: April 14, 2013, 06:35:32 AM
RBCex: now accepting BBQCoin! Smiley

Trade your BQC for BTE.  Or BTC, or TRC, or LTC, only at RBCex.

To my knowledge, RBCex is the first exchange to facilitate trading BBQCoin, the coin you can eat.
904  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do you create an altcoin? on: April 14, 2013, 06:21:01 AM
Can someone post some sort of guide, please? Throughout the thread I have lost track of the process (what variables to edit mainly). We also don't really have a post explaining how to get the genesis block started. Sorry, but as the name of the coin suggests (noobcoin) I'm new to this, and don't have much coding experience.

Were you able to work through the instructions in that MultiCoin genesis block page?  I've been aware of it for some time and wishing I had time to try it out.

(Guess I'll live vicariously through you hardworking altcoin devs!)
905  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terracoin. What the hell is going on? on: April 14, 2013, 06:08:45 AM
And on that note, a comment to the Terracoin devs:

What you said in the Genesis Block is beautiful, and I hope Stephanie is remembered in perpetuity.

So the Terracoin development team is located in East Coast, United States?

I got into Terracoin at the start of this year to learn about the cryptocurrency network.  BTC is just too valuable to waste on test and experiment.  Believe me, I have learned so much thru TRC (including the current debacle) than I ever will via BTC.  Plus, the few active member such as Crazy Rabbit, Fuzzy Bear, and Walter Rothbard all seemed really nice (note the fuzzy animals and puppets in these user names).  So it is a real shame that TRC has come to this.

I just now saw this, and I wanted to thank you for your kind words, and add that I feel the same way about the other people who have been visibly involved here in Terracoin.  crazy_rabbit in particular has been an all around great guy and also great person to learn from.

I'm sorry to say I sold most of my Terracoin a few days ago when Rabbit warned everybody to take their TRC out of Terrawallet.  I've bought a few since then for playing around with, but not many.

I hope the network can recover.  TRC was the first altcoin I ever owned, and I learned a TON!  So I hope the devs hear that I greatly appreciate the work they put in and what I learned from the network they created and the economy surrounding it, and the actors in that economy.

I still say, thumbs up for Thumbs Up Guy!  I hope he comes back soon, and I hope that somewhere down the road the forked chains are orphaned and forgotten and things look stable again.  I'm still amazed at the resiliency of TRC's price on the exchanges at this moment in time.  I definitely will not rule out buying more at some point.

Very nice work, guys.  Thank you for the thread, and thank you for investing in yourselves.  Do you realize how many more altcoin/bitcoin developers were just born today on this thread?
908  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BTC|TRC|BTE|LTC] RBCex: Exchange Terracoin, Bytecoin, and Litecoin on: April 14, 2013, 03:22:11 AM

I would also love to provide escrow for your over the counter altcoin trades.

I'm pleased to announce that RBCex is now accepting Bitcoin.  PM for orders; PM or jump in the chatbox for help or questions.

Thanks for the bump, buddy. Smiley

Fixed rate to what?  A fiat currency?  That's not exactly "fixed."

If you want mintchip, you know where to find it.

=Your argument gives total freedom to these manipulators.

Freedom is moral, taking away freedom is immoral.

They're stealing miners hard earned BTC's very subtly. Thats it.

I hate it when people redefine "stealing."

If you have a nugget of iron, and I take it from you without your consent, that's stealing.

If you have a nugget of iron and are offering it for sale for 10.0 BTC, and I find an equivalent nugget of iron and offer it for sale for 5.0 BTC, and now nobody will pay you 10.0 BTC for your nugget, but will only pay you 5.0 BTC, I haven't "stolen" anything from you, even though you have suffered a loss of value.

Just because somebody's actions result in a loss of value for your assets, that does not mean anybody has "stolen" anything.  Every day, people outcompete other people and the value of specific assets decline.  That is not stealing.  If I buy a bunch of stuff at certain times and sell a bunch of stuff at certain times, and it affects the market value of your stuff, that doesn't mean I'm a thief!
914  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Spam Terracoin? on: April 13, 2013, 12:10:55 AM
I can confirm that the email was terracoin dev's, I have communicated with him before on that email.

Wow.

Well, so long and thanks for all the fish.

I would presume that some fork of Terracoin is going to keep going.  Which fork it will be may be a problematic question to answer.

I'm still curious when and where the Terracoin dev(s) has warned Terracoin users that they need to be mining.  I agree!  But I haven't seen these warnings, either here on Bitcointalk, or on Terracointalk, or on Terracoin.org.  To be fair, I haven't read the mailing lists.
915  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terracoin is ALLIIIIIVEEEE on: April 12, 2013, 11:25:31 PM
I just dumped all my TRC  Embarrassed

I just bought.
916  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Spam Terracoin? on: April 12, 2013, 11:07:44 PM
We've been warning users multiple times regarding the fact that if they
really wanted to protect their coins, they should participate in mining,
but we were never heard.

Where were these warnings issued?  I have never seen them.

I agree that altcoin proponents need to secure their chains.

918  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BTE] Bytecoin Info Thread on: April 12, 2013, 10:34:54 PM
if it's an exact btc clone why was it made?

There are a lot of reasons why an exact BTC clone may prove to be valuable.

Some possibilities:
  • If transaction space is scarce/expensive on the original Bitcoin blockchain, it may prove economical to have multiple lesser/newer block chains for less important transactions
  • Far into the future, if subdivision of satoshis is desired, one option may be to make change with alt coins
  • An active blockchain used for real transactions may prove to be better for some testing purposes than Bitcoin testnet
  • An alternative chain promotes a more healthy ecosystem/economy: if something goes wrong on the main chain (like the blockchain fork a few weeks ago), wealth may flee into an alternative chain, for short or long term
  • An alternative chain promotes mining innovation
  • Simply for fun!

Personally, I have yet to see a change that any alt-coins have made that I can unequivocally regard to be an improvement over Bitcoin at this point (although some of the changes may prove to be so, eventually).  So to me, if I want an additional currency, the best choice is an identical fork of Bitcoin.

I would like to see a new BTC clone launch at every Bitcoin halving.
919  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 2.0 on: April 12, 2013, 10:27:10 PM
Come on people, what's wrong?... It's free market.

Really? The exchange that controls 80% of Bitcoin trading can declare a "market cooldown" period whenever it wants for as long as it wants, and you call that a free market?

I don't.

As long as this exchange is in this 80% position by free choice of the people and not by some government direction/regulation then yes, it is called a free market.

Yes!

I've only exchanged on MtGox twice, ever.

But while MtGox was closed, I was buying and selling Bitcoin and altcoins, elsewhere.
920  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 2.0 on: April 12, 2013, 10:25:24 PM
I have a proposal: go develop a currency which can't be exchanged for fiat or can't be manipulated, or whatever.  You want it, you make it.

I'll offer to exchange it on my exchange.

Cheesy
