961  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: August 10, 2013, 02:27:40 PM
Hi

This is for mikaelh or anybody that can provide a decent answer..

I am trying to understand the current mining algorithm used in the miner, but, since I am a noob when it comes to C programming, I have a hard time understanding it.

mikaelh  ... did you use your own algorithm and, if so, can you please describe it or is there an article on the web available? I have searched for algorithms but found none yet that corresponds to yours. I am trying to learn C programming and thought "what the heck, might as well start here since I am interested in XRP's.

Any help would be highly appreciated........
Hi Dummy, learning c programming and being able to understand the extremely complex math behind the prime coin miner are two separate topics. I would class myself as an accomplished programmer (it's been my day job for 15 years) but I don't understand the xpm algorithm despite reading a lot about it. If your goal is to learn c, I would start with that by looking at some tutorials.

I think you are all misunderstanding me. I AM trying to learn C better. I have done the tutorials and small code. STUPID "HELLOW WORLD". etc. Why spend your time on trivial programs if you can spoend it on more worthwhile things?

The point here is ,,,, because I am a noob C programmer I find it difficult to follow the code and determine the algorthim, I am not REALLY trying to learn C, but trying to understand the algorithm so that I might, if lucky, be able to improve on it. I have searched for algorithms, especially the sieving but the multiplication factor for the sieve throws me out, The rest is basically understandable.

Gee, why do you all misread and misunderstood my request? Because it was easy to hammer on the "Learning C" part and you were all incapable to answer on the "algorithm " part?
Understanding the algorithm takes a decent understanding of the mathematics involved.  If you don't have a solid enough background you won't be able to understand the explanation.  Given my background and my overall understanding of the math involved here, I'd say a fair number of people with Bachelor's degrees in Mathematics would struggle with this algorithm.  Since the code is already written, an accomplished programmer could make tweaks to certain parts of the code to make it run faster, but I doubt many of them truly understand it fully.

I think it's mtrlt buying all the coins as he knows his GPU miner will come online soon and the difficulty will jump and coins production will drop.

Looks like V6 is performing better on my quad core, have yet to get meaningful comparison between my 2 old dual cores.
My laptop has found 2 blocks with V6

If you can not say anything usefull,,, please shutup
If you're going to talk about ripple (XRP) in a primecoinn thread(XPM), please shutup

Hmm, on ypool block statistics ( http://ypool.net/stats.php?a=bd&nr=3981 ) the user

Quote
mumusv6miner   15517   4521.7   0.69676

how he got 15k shares in one block that took less than 2 minutes to be found? he's have the biggest share count in ypools...
something special of his seting??

Fishy?

v4mumusminer 18083 5000.9 0.755724
mumusv6miner 14510 4928.9 0.714749

Remember, shares count for 40 blocks...

Yes, but no one else in the pool is getting anywhere near those stats.  That is a serious amount of horse power to get that kind of figure.  The closest is about 11000, but those two combined are 32000!  Looks out of place in the list of other miners.  Maybe I'm just being paranoid. Maybe there is a GPU version out there? Maybe he owns a server farm? Maybe we are all mining for him? Maybe  it isn't even him? Maybe I should shut up lol.
How effing stupid are you?  HOW are we mining for him???  In a quick look, he's found 9 out of last 30 blocks.  1.41-1.52 average per block x 30 blocks = 42.3-45.6 XPM.  If he'd been mining solo that'd be well over 90!  Sure looks to me like HE's mining for US.  (Prob shouldn't tell him, he'll quit the pool and then where are we?)

So what if he's running a VPS farm with 400 CPUs?  I know I am close to break-even, have earned 97XPM through the pool and my stats say I've found 9 blocks.  So I would have been bettter off if I'd been solo, but I'd not have had a constant income.  It's a trade off.

The guy is running a pool too. If this is truly a scam I'd steer clear of the pool as well...

lol, that pool has 1 miner with a whipping 10khash speed.  total loser.

972  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WIN 100 LTC! www.100LTC.com on: August 08, 2013, 07:05:40 PM
Website is an obvious fake, over a 30 second period went from 87 to 89 to 90 to 92 LTC deposited, the LTC blocks don't come in that fast.
973  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WIN 100 LTC! www.100LTC.com on: August 08, 2013, 06:49:46 PM
New round started now!

100 LTC has been pay-outed!!

who too? I sent when was 99 and the refreshed refreshed and it was ages before it reset so I presume I was the 100th? yet never received 100?

I sent 4 LTC in a row, when it was 95... I won those pack Wink

100LTC - exchange - course: 4LTC/100LTC Cheesy Thank you!!
You got a transaction ID on that?  I just looked through the block explorer and cannot find any 100 LTC payouts nor 4 1 LTC payments in a row.  Please provide proof of this and that you are not the OP posting as another to scam.
974  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TERRACOIN ATTACK OVER 1.2TH ATTACK CONFIRMD on: August 08, 2013, 05:53:10 PM
Since it seems it continues and I'm getting somewhat pissed off by what is currently going on with TRC, I created a blacklist available here:

http://teracoin.org/blacklist

Which records major past&present acts which I personally consider as contradictory to the spirit of CryptoCoin movement.
The idea was to deploy a full-fledged economy and not a playground for morally crippled criminals, no?

Ideally,  in the future, merchants and exchange offices shall simply not accept coins which have ever passed through such dirty addresses.

Perhaps you should look into the possibilities of exploits with a particular coin before using it?

TRC exploits have been foreseen many months ago, especially the one where ASICs can jack up the difficulty at a moments notice.

Dear smoothie,

Existence of exploits is not my concern. Since it has been long ago postulated by many wise persons whose opinion I respect that EVERY SYSTEM IS EXPLOITABLE (BTC included, of course), I personally consider it to be a waste of time to give a big fck about exploits. What interests me, however,  especially in this stage of CryptoCoin paradigm shift, is to propose robust reactive mechanism against immoral usage of such exploits.

Blacklist whose URL is above is my minute contribution to such a mechanism.

(a propos,  many [ c.f. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2322.msg30913#msg30913 ] things were "foreseen" months before You even registered to this forum, thus if I were You I would be somewhat reluctant in making definitive statements from such a distinguished supervisory pose)
Maybe you can reformat your page?  All I see is 1 long continuous line of garble that makes no sense.
975  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: August 08, 2013, 01:24:04 AM
Well, block payments just dropped below 11 and difficulty passed 9.54

It's amazing how much a software update and better parameters can get you.
On that note, I'm starting to think the chains/day measurement is becoming less accurate.  Either that or I've been quite unlucky.

It seems to not be accurate for me - I haven't gotten any blocks since the 25th (other than an orphan on the 25th) on my desktop though so I feel it's hard to tell.  Then again my sister got three blocks on saturday with the same cpu... It seems like it's a rough average that was accurate when it was added but is slowly becoming less useful for judging how often you might get a block from my experiences.
One major misconception on this coin is people think it acts like any other coin out there... in one way it does, but for the most part it doesn't.  Bitcoin, Litecoin, etc, all use a hash.  Since the hash needed is random, it takes time to find.  This is the only area where primecoin is like the others, in that it is a random chance to get the right variable to find a prime.  Where primecoin diverges is that it can never reuse a number already found.  Bitcoin and Namecoin can use the same hash and be 'merged mined', primecoin alone can never be merge mined.

The basis behind blocks is finding Cunningham Chains of length N where N is the difficulty rating.  What does this mean?  The smallest known length 9 chains are:85864769  and
857095381 (1st and 2nd kind).  The proof of work on this coin is such that once a prime chain has been found, it cannot be reused.  So each prime found means the one less prime that can be found.  Look at the records primecoin has found in length 9 chains: 2030793138184474269420052163338592688212588454185304749794006580858788424425799 69*179#-1 is 151 digits long!  In a way, the nice thing on this is that as time goes by and the length of these primes gets up into the 1000+ digit range, difficulty will start coming down as they become harder to find and we'll start finding larger 8 chains and larger 7 chains.

Therefore the metric for finding blocks is ever changing, you can't count on what works today being the best thing to do in 2 weeks time as well.  This is an ever changing coin and people really need to start thinking outside the box.

Where can u find the stats, on DIFF,Block reward  & network hash rate Huh
There is no network hash rate, block difficulty can be found by going tot eh debug window and typing getdifficulty  Block rewards can be figured by taking 999/dif^2
977  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / terracoin still under attack? on: August 07, 2013, 11:51:02 PM
over 3k coins mined in 30 mins, the block times are all over the place for 1 miner:

http://cryptocoinexplorer.com:3750/address/1D9LUfYpshFVtoMUfx6djfK2mRFDdt7aKT

Looks almost like the time warp is not fully fixed or they found a new exploit.
