1061  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin on: July 29, 2013, 08:17:11 PM
Alright, I have written the GPU code for the sieve. It compiles, but I haven't gotten to test it yet. I have to code the OpenCL interface first. I can't really use my existing code since all the other coins are "GPU does all the work", but the Primecoin miner is currently "CPU and GPU work together". The ultimate plan is, of course, to do everything on the GPU, but that's not gonna be the case in the first betas.
so we must upgrade cpus on our rigs? or 2 core amd cpu is enough to load by 100% 4*7970?
If you have a 2 core system, I'd say stick to other alt coin mining.  If this port is like other math-heavy projects I've seen go to GPU, it'll take 2-4 cores to load a single 7970.

song like this scam going to die... but I buy 2 XPM for my colection (after close to full month can't find block...)

It's a scam and dying just because you're failing to mine blocks? I assume Bitcoin is a scam too?
What can you say, he loaded up the client and stared at it for 30 days and guess what? No blocks found!

Huh?  You have to START it?HuhHuh

Thank god stupidity isn't contagious.

My best profit from 1 month = 0 XPM  Grin
Damn dude!  My Timex Sinclair TS1000 has found 3 blocks already!  You really suck!

I know there are a lot of naive people in the world, but ~$40 to make a client and launch a coin?  I know the ONLY way I'd ask that little is if all I had to do was take the existing source code and then search and replace the names and maybe do 1 or 2 tweaks.

What do you think 90%+ of the launched coins are.  EXACTLY that.  Hell most of the time they don't even modify everything that needs to be modified.  They use the same alertkey as LTC, they don't change magic numbers so nodes running multiple blockchains end up confused spamming LTC blocks into xCoin network for example.  Hell in some coins they don't even change user facing strings so some error messages or confirmations will say "Litecoin".

To date there has been very little innovation in the alt-coin space:
LTC, PPC, Freicoin (I think it is a stupid idea but it is at least innovative), Powercoin.  That is about it.  Everything else has been copy, replace, tweak, launch.
you forgot primecoin
1065  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 29, 2013, 03:29:34 PM
reborn, (young child  Cool Cool Cool) you might want to mine with ypool.com
Yes, maybe... 1 XPM per month is more from 0 XPM per month...
I'm running around 10k total PPS on 4 machines and am using ypool.  Not sure how long they have been pointed at ypool, I'd had the clients solo mining but slowly switched them to the pool since my luck seems bad lately.  I'm sitting at 3.97 XPM unconfirmed and 0 confirmed, which means none of my machines has been on it for more than 2.5 days.  Since the download time on the new miner is 23 hours old, I'd have to say no more than a day.  If you have 15% of what I do, then you'd be getting .6 per day minimum.

Well yeah, did you think Gas Coin was something other than a quick copy job?
I gave it no thought, I was looking for something to mine and it was launching so I figured what better time to try it.  If you can't get in ahead of the bot nets, you only get dribbles.
1067  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] GAS Coin is now dead. r3wt snuck in a premine and scammed the community on: July 29, 2013, 02:52:58 PM
I just don't see why gas coin has to die just because of this? Surely there is some way for both parties to resolve the issue?

Vote on this +1

Ok there is premine, now we know about it, owners should take it back and give as bounties for pools and other things. Everybody will be fine with that.

Or simply ask some developer to relaunch coin

People who mined the coin through all problems and errors showed that they actually are interested in coin, and will be more gratefull if you relaunch or continue coin than if you simply throw it out. At least I would like for coin to continue.
In all honesty, it needs a relaunch.  I stopped mining when the pool mined the same block 14 times in a row (with some ungodly 10billion coin reward listed) and I could no longer get the client to sync.

Yeah, it'd be great to reward all those that stuck with it and kept mining, but you'd then also have to reward the thieves that stole 100k by premining.
1068  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] GAS Coin is now dead. r3wt snuck in a premine and scammed the community on: July 29, 2013, 02:47:34 PM
You've got to be kidding me, r3wt is plainly stealing because he was mad he sold his services for 0.4 BTC. he literally has no excuse for expecting any sort of sympathy. That's like a thief asking for forgiveness after being caught riding a stolen bicycle because he wants to become a race-car driver.
Seriously, just give back the stupid 0.4 BTC. I mean really man, that's like $40 dollars in the current market. You're going full retard by saying that they shouldn't of expected you to make a shitty product because you offered a low price.
I know there are a lot of naive people in the world, but ~$40 to make a client and launch a coin?  I know the ONLY way I'd ask that little is if all I had to do was take the existing source code and then search and replace the names and maybe do 1 or 2 tweaks.  I ran an online game for several years and the programmers were paid over $4000 for the initial product.  An additional $3000 was spent updating it to AJAX to allow realtime viewing of movements instead of hitting the F5 key over and over.

Here's what should have happened:

Admin looks for programmer
Programmer quotes price
Admin accept price
Programmer realizes price quoted was too low
Programmer apologizes to Admin and asks to renegotiate fee
Admin either accepts or declines new fee
Programmer lives with decision.

What would GASCoin have said if you PM'd him and said "Dude, I need to hire testers, would an extra .2 BTC be acceptable?"
Answer: YOU DON'T KNOW because you didn't ask.

Maybe he would have paid, maybe he would have supplied his own testers, maybe.... maybe...maybe.
If this were the real world, and you had done work for a bank and used code to give yourself money and got caught, you'd be in jail.

Personally, I agree with coinerd.  All of this is dragging both sides down.  At this point everyone needs to walk away.

GASCoin: I hope you find a programmer and get back on track
r3wt: You've already said too much, walk away and don't come back.  I doubt Mother Theresa's backing would help your reputation now.
1069  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terracoin attack caused Bter.com 50BTC loss on: July 29, 2013, 01:09:33 PM
....unless those coins belongs to the attacker now and he's holding them somewhere, they disappeared from BTER but still are in the attacker's possesion, aren't they?

As lamiomni said, a profit happens when you double spend. In the current blockchain the deposit by the attacker would be invalid. So they are still with the attacker (unless they have been spent again).

Some of that TRC  deposit may have been withdrawn by Bter users and should have vanished. Since nobody is reporting that it seems a tad fishy. Unless by luck all the withdrawls used other TRCs only.
I think you are not looking at the big picture.

Exchange wallet: 2,000,000 TRC
Attacker sends 120,000 TRC, coins go to his deposit address, then into exchange wallet.
Exchange wallet: 2,120,000 TRC
Attacker converts on site to BTC and withdraws
Exchange wallet: 2,120,000 TRC
Attacker invalidates original blockchain and deposit disappears
Exchange wallet: 2,000,000 TRC

Now, *IF* someone happened to withdraw from the exchange during this brief period, their TRC sent to other sites would disappear, but how often do people transfer out of an exchange?
1070  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terracoin attack caused Bter.com 50BTC loss on: July 29, 2013, 01:01:46 PM
the blockchain now says:

175049           2013-07-29 11:49:19   36   126.31668153   294231.656   3501029.85549999

on the 23th before the attack there were 327049 TRC, here the situation at block 163500

163500   2013-07-23 03:36:06   1   20   20574.792   3270049.85549999

11549 blocks difference, 20 trc on each block: 230980 TRC total generated by these 11549 new blocks

3.270.049+230.980 = 3.501.029

EXACT!

so the frigging TRC coins generated by all those blocks are still counted by the block chain
but... if THEY DISAPPEARED, shouldn't they be erased and not computed anymore???

the mystery is still there... are those coins existing or not??

I still can't get it!

Try this explanation: Attacker has legally mined 100 coins

Code:
Original Blockchain                                   Attacker Blockchain
Block 102, 1 transaction, 20 coins to A       Block 102, 1 transaction, 20 coins to attacker (C)
block 103, 1 transaction, 20 coins to B       Block 103, 1 transaction, 20 coins to attacker
block 104, 1 transaction, 20 coins to A       Block 104, 1 transaction, 20 coins to attacker
block 105, 1 transaction, 20 coins to C       Block 105, 1 transaction, 20 coins to attacker
block 106, 2 trans, 20 to A, 100 C->D        Block 106, 1 transaction, 20 coins to attacker
block 107-113 1 trans, 20 each to A/B/E     Block 197-113, 20 coins each to attacker
block 114, 1 trans 20 coins to E                  Block 114 attacker makes a longer chain by creating a larger transaction, orphaning true blocks 102-113

Example of attacker's transactions in block 114:

Since the attacker's blockchain is longer and he has more hashrate, he forces his blockchain onto the network as the real one and the real one disappears (orphaned).  The spend he made at block 106 to the Exchange at Address D 'disappears'(even though the exchange credits it after the 4/6 confirmations), the coins mined by A, B and E disappear, their blocks orphaned.  Attacker goes to exchange, converts credited coins to BTC or other coins, transfers them out, Exchange later sees balance mismatch between wallet and their system and trace it back, but too late, attacker has run with converted coins.

Now, by this explanation, the attacker still has the coins.  TRC developers though said the time warped blocked would be invalidated.  What does this mean?  Dunno.  Maybe the attackers address is rendered invalid in the system and while the coins are 'in' his wallet, the client will never allow them to be spent.  Maybe it's just a platitude given to us to calm the masses into thinking the attacker lost his coins, while they sweep it under the rug and let him go.  Maybe... <insert your theory here>

We will never know the real truth unless the TRC dev's come right out and explain it in terms we can understand.
1071  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If you were to implement a CPU-only coin... on: July 29, 2013, 12:13:37 PM
The solution to resistant mining to current evils (VPS and botnets).. is to have a coin require insane amounts of RAM.. maybe 8-16 gigs just to start with... 32-128 to mine fast

this would put the above to bed.

hook me up if you use this in a coin

This would be VPS Heaven.  How many people do you think have that kind of memory in a desktop or laptop?
I count 5 machines in my room that qualify

I must have fallen back into elementary school today, wtf?

You're both retards and no one likes you?

Really?

IMO, Spots and Gas have valid points here, refute them...

I am starting to wonder if hydro and ahmed got a piece of the Gascoin premine...
wouldn't matter at this point as the coin is dead.  No way to transfer coins, so they just have a waller full of 1's and 0's.

You paid him to create a coin. Coin needed a stable network for launch, He made that happen too. Did he deliver your coin? Yes? No scam here.
In his own words:
Quote
you said you wanted no premine, you never said i couldn't premine it
He admits he was told no premine AND intentionally 'misinterprets' it and performs his own premine.

He openly admits he accepted this job for .4BTC, then claims it wasn't worth it so he premined.  Why not negotiate a better fee?

I'm sorry, but this guy comes across as a liar, a thief as well as a scammer.

its easy to cherry pick little parts of my message. one blaring omission from your less than word for word quote of my statement was that i used the premine to get some people to help me. i'm not gonna repeat my self any longer. the mods have access to the pm's, i'll let them settle it. enjoy life with your head up the ass of GasCoin and iGotSpots.
This is actually the first coin I tried to mine at it's launch, which makes me doubly pissed over your actions and your attitude about it.

"its not a large enough premine to matter. no one will say shit about it, trust me."

Gee, at July 27, 2013, 12:08:04 AM GAScoin said it went live, at July 27, 2013, 12:13:32 AM the premine was noticed and commented on.  Yeah, no one will care, TRUST YOU.

"nothing shady about a premine if you put it to good use. "

Front page of the lauch states in bold letter NO PREMINE.  Nah, nothing shady about premining a coin that advertises itself as no premine.

"we tried it on testnet(yeah, i had to hire testers, what am i supposed to split .4 btc four ways?) they wanted compensation and we took 25 k apiece. no shame in that."

Gee, I wanna be a tester for you, 25k coins eh?  Sounds like my kind of testing!  I'd love the chance to have the first dump at an exchange with 25k coins!  I've got 600 coins after 24 hours running the client, so 25k premine each for 4 people, wow, that's quite reasonable! NOT!

An honest person abides by rules, a dishonest person looks for loopholes and uses words like "You never said *I* couldn't premine it".  It's clear which category you fall into.

You premined 100,000 coins in a coin that was supposed to have a block reward between 1-8 coins

The fact that you don't see a problem with it is even worse than what you've done

there are 200 million coins in the cap. .2% total coins in premine. do the math. the only one who seems to have a problem with it is you, not the countless people who are still mining the coin on the new client.

i'll give you a rundown of the stats.

Code:

thats already 1.8 m/h on the new chain since we rolled out the fix.

You're right. We do have a problem with the premine. If we are the only ones, then that should show how honest and fair we are trying to be
I personally think premining a coin without the knowledge of the person paying you to program is the same as embezzling from a bank.   Illegal and fucked up.

Just to skew this topic back on coin not other things, as that discussion probably will not go anywhere (everybody already made their minds on which side they are on and which opinion is right, and most people will understand that problems where beta problems because of issues in team. and unless any of you start it again - people will be fine using this coin)

Just tried and seems to be working fine both wallet and solo mining, got few accepted and confirmed and deposited blocks.

So should be fine from now on, although we will need new pool Smiley
the btcera pool is still running
