During Torino - Fiorentina we saw another smaller scale show like the one Lukaku and Ibra had in Coppa Italia. Nikola Milenkovic and Andrea Belotti had a bad argument but only Milenkovic got a red card (and Belotti became determining afterwards).
Fiorentina led the game but being in 9 against 11 is no easy task and Belotti got his chance to score at 88'. Anyway, these events tend to make these games almost impossible to predict.
962  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which Stable coin is the Best for Investment This Year on: January 30, 2021, 08:39:26 AM
I fail to understand the point of this thread. No stable coin is a good investement because you are buying another form of fiat currency. Stable coins by definition, and by name, need to keep their value at all times (in fact, problems arise when there are some glitches on the order book and they fail to maintain the peg).
If you want to invest (and risk) your money by, let's say, buying $1000 and have some interest on that via all the major DeFi and CeFi platforms that could be done.
Stable coins are good only for that: borrowing, lending, trading and saving (if you trust the platforms you use).

It was because of this simple post of Elon that it drives to $0.07 you may check it here https://mobile.twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1354924057825837060. Too regrettable that it was $0.002 from past year on the month of December. Smart money are flowing now into altcoins and even Grayscale did with their recent announcement of assets they held onto their trust. Search for coins that are still cheap and has good usecase guys, not financial advice.
whatever Elon musk tweeted will definitely make a big domino effect, even Elon Musk has made Doge Bullish several times..

I like this prediction, level 2 predictions are correct (a few hours later)

Sheer and blatant market manipulation at its worst. Doge is a joke and this market will soon transfor into a marekt!
"Some of the members of WSB tend to use borrowed capital, like student loans, to bet on certain "meme stocks" that show popularity within the community."
This is simply just crazy, do not enter this game as you may hurt yourselves very bad.
964  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-1-25 Fortune - As BTC ETFs stall, a new $180m crypto trust fund goes public on: January 29, 2021, 08:48:07 AM
Good news!

The fees at GBTC seem excessive and competition will only help both fees to decrease, but also lockups and the premium people were willing to pay to buy GBTC.  If the SEC would stop being such luddites, they could resolve the issue quite quickly by just approving the ETF.

it's good news but given that it's a small canadian fund, i don't have the highest hopes. they currently hold ~5600 BTC vs grayscale's ~650k. that first mover advantage is significant in terms of the public market's liquidity, and that really matters to investors and traders, especially since ninepoint is a relative unknown. if you think about it, 1.3% annually (what shareholders would save by switching from GBTC to BITC.U) is nothing compared to bitcoin's potential price movements.

when the SEC finally approves a fund available to non-accredited investors, it'll be a game changer for sure. the american retail market is still largely untapped, and i think large institutions like pension funds/asset managers will eventually be holding ETF shares instead of the current primary available option---futures contracts, which are not ideal for long term investment.
Exactamundo  Wink As I wrote somewhere else we are seeing small but important incremental steps into the right direction. Maybe it's very good and healthy that we haven't had such ETFs approved so far: if you think the price levels and recognition that bitcoin has had in the last years, imagine what could happen when another market share like that will open.
That is the bright side, on the dark side I am still very much concerned about the fact that bitcoin needs to evolve its fungibility properties. But that's for another thread.
965  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 29, 2021, 08:33:52 AM
I feel bad for everyone who will get dragged in and be left holding the bag at the end while these assholes just move on with their lives to the next thing.

This is actually the only part I feel bad about. Indeed, there's gonna be a lotta casualties. Press F to pay respects.

However, whenever rare combinations of technology and regulation exist where the transfer of wealth from the upper to lower classes can be accelerated, they should be taken advantage of to the fullest extent.

It's the least that should be done considering the reverse has been in effect for decades.

They won't be able to get away with it forever, and regulators won't be able to shut them down ahead of schedule in their next incarnation. Plan accordingly.
It's inevitable. I remember the altcoin P&D drama and madness of 2013-2014.
There will always be people that can get easily fooled into believing that one coin can make them rich quick.
I am sorry but I can pay no respect to such casualties. Do you know what I mean?
966  Economy / Economics / Re: Ray Dalio: What I Think of Bitcoin on: January 29, 2021, 08:29:44 AM
Great share fillippone, always hunting the best news for us.
I am not surprised by any of these words, as I believed in the power of bitcoin as a protocol, as an invention, as a network (you name it) since day 1. I can't say much more, I can only agree with that.
What I can add is that there's a slow movement that is slowly draining wealth from old investement asset classes (stocks, gold, real estate....) into the new one which is bitcoin. Slowly and inesorably we shall see a growing market cap (and hopefully a constant and healthy price increase). The avalanche has started and nobody can stop it now. It's too late. Wink
967  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: January 29, 2021, 08:23:07 AM
I'm thankful to Napoli for delivering more than two goals for me. Since Napoli is such an unpredictable team and the fact that they lost during the weekend to Verona, I wasn't expecting them to put up this kind of performance. Looks like Gattuso has realized that he doesn't have to win seria A title, just need to win the Coppa italia again for the second time in a row.

We could see a repeat of what Napoli did to Fiorentina ~ 6 - 0. It's just half time.

The team is just very fickle: IMHO the play, together with Atalanta, the nicest football in Serie A. Problem is that they can't keep up with concentration especially during those which are considered easy games. Yesterday many got deceived into believieng that it could have been one of those occasions in which Napoli usually underperform: it wasn't the case and they basically destroyed Spezia with 4 missiles in a row.
Napoli surely can go after Coppa Italia again this year. It would be nice to see another Juventus-Napoli final.

There's a DeFi token for a bitcoin based project called Sovryn. Their initial genesis sale went sold out in minutes. A group of Bitcoin OGs got together in mid 2020 to create the next evolution on Bitcoin via this sovryn platform: below the original thread.

A very interesting critic on ChainLink can be found here
https://medium.com/@james.sangalli/why-chainlink-is-not-the-oracle-of-the-future-8bb859a81947

~snip
I think of Microsoft's sponsored COCO and R3 Corda for example.

interesting read, but mostly do not agree with the critics, nevertheless, neither project is ideal, and there are flaws everywhere
he proposes NEST protocol instead of LINK, which does not sound that good

did not catch mentioning of Microsoft and similar in the article, but agree that this could be solution as well, but could not see it as decentralized more than Chainlink
I should have mentioned the source of COCO and Corda too, sorry. I don't know how familiar are you with so-called DLTs and permissioned blockchains but basically what these projects wants to do is to replicate what it is done by the likes of Eth, EOS, LINK etc. in a controlled environment more prone to business use.
The same also goes with various Hyperledger Fabric implementations and such.

970  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-01-27 Coindesk - BIS Chief Blasts Bitcoin’s Viability on: January 28, 2021, 04:16:21 PM
https://www.coindesk.com/agustin-carstens-bitcoin

Quote
The chief banker at the bank for central banks, Agustín Carstens, cast doubt on bitcoin’s long-term viability Wednesday, saying it was only a matter of time before a 51% attack brings down the world’s original cryptocurrency.
...“Above all, investors must be cognizant that Bitcoin may well break down altogether. Scarcity and cryptography alone do not suffice to guarantee exchange,” he said.
...

This part was particularly rich:
Quote
“So, clearly, if digital money is to exist, the central bank must play a pivotal role, guaranteeing the stability of value, ensuring the elasticity of the aggregate supply of such money, and overseeing the overall security of the system,” he said.
Perhaps he should (a) be more cognizant about what he is putting into his mouth (it isn't healthy) and (b) what is coming out of it when he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about.   My suggestion would be that he read more prior to pontificating.

The guy probably doesn't know that digital money is here already because their useless fiat is also running cashless-mode and to me that it's digital. There's no innovation to it, it's a stupid digital representation of what we have in the physical realm.
It's too much for them to understand the revolution that bitcoin put into place so a take like that of the article does not surprise me at all: let them protect their small little garden while bitcoin slowly disrupts the financial world. The genie is out of the bottle and they fail to recognise it.
971  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: January 28, 2021, 04:12:17 PM
Now that the Italy's Cup round is over I believe the upcoming serie A games are quite interesting. I'd concentrate on Atalanta - Lazio, Napoli - Parma, Sampdoria - Juventus and Roma - Verona for a betslip. I will be a contrarian thinker here, because to me Lazio is going to win away at Bergamo, they can do it. Napoli and Parma can be a game of at least 3 goals while Juventus will try to win again against Sampdoria. Last one is Roma to win easily against Verona. That's my bet this week.
972  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: January 27, 2021, 09:26:14 AM
Ibra's head can't be changed: mixing genius and craziness belongs to him completely. He found a great first score, like a pool shot really. They were playing OK and controlling the game up to that stupid foul that resulted in a penalty kick. Then Ibra went mad full on and you know the rest of the story.
My bet on both teams to score was successful but I would have preferred the opposite exact score.
973  Economy / Economics / Re: All world banks need bitcoin now big solution on: January 27, 2021, 09:15:33 AM
Banks need to admit their defeat and let their clients have these very simple things:
  • No restrictions when moving fiat in/out of exchanges: my money in the bank, my rules, if I want to buy crypto that's my business not theirs
  • Insured custody of crypto holdings for investment, inheritance and so on
  • Collateralized loans where I can lend/borrow against my holdings
If they don't offer these services new fintech companies like Nexo, BlockFi, neo banks like SEBA/Sygnum, will eat their crypto-friendly user base.
The battle is over, they lost. We need banking services to unlock the full power of our crypto with no hassles.
974  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-01-20] Janet Yellen suggests 'curtailing' cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin on: January 27, 2021, 09:07:29 AM
@Sithara007. My biggest concern is the Democrats might attack and takedown where they can also hurt the whole cryptospace. Tether.

There are a few people in here who are certain that bitcoin will pump if Tether was taken down because they would exit Tether by buying bitcoin hehe. This is comedy.
If that is where Tether is going where can I sign for it?  Cool It would be a great happy ending. All USDT in circulation would finally move back to BTC where they belong.
Apart from that, that's something I fail to understand: it's only a mere 1:1 representation of a dollar. There has been more to it to let it grow above many $B of capitalization. There are many stablecoins around but tether has always been the preferred choice of traders, speculators and you name others.
Even though, I might be happy if it disappears, I don't think we will ever have something similar if it blows up.
And decentralized alternatives struggles to take off, unfortunately.

976  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ChainLink - LINK - current status review and analysis / discussion on: January 27, 2021, 08:45:00 AM
Firstly I think that most coins associated to oracle projects are mostly useless: buying these tokens (like LINK, BAND let's say) to expect a return in the future because these projects might be succesful is not for me really.
A very interesting critic on ChainLink can be found here
https://medium.com/@james.sangalli/why-chainlink-is-not-the-oracle-of-the-future-8bb859a81947

My take is that, in the future, oracle services will be offered by big companies that will put these independent projects under a business value proposition.
I think of Microsoft's sponsored COCO and R3 Corda for example.
977  Economy / Economics / Re: Tech. Analysis vs. Value Investing vs. Growth Investing vs. Narrative Economy on: January 26, 2021, 09:34:03 AM

2010-onwards: we are observing an emergence of narrative economy and narrative investing. It is well documented and currently being popularised theory by Robert J. Shiller, where charts don't matter anymore, fundamental data doesn't matter anymore, future growth doesn't matter anymore. All what matters is the narrative (i.e. story) around the particular asset / stock / etc. If it got a good story which is able to spread like a virus, no matter how good or bad the stock/(asset) is - it will deliver substantial returns (read more here: https://www.ft.com/content/5ba0adf6-ec3c-11e9-85f4-d00e5018f061). Effectively it means - if you can identify good story that would be appealing to other prospective investors, and able to invest in that story early enough, you can outperform others.

It may be true that, in the case of bitcoin, a some kind of narrative played a very important role but I believe after 12 years it's not about the narrative anymore. Bitcoin grew as a protocol, as a groundbreaking technology, as a new alternative financial layer to build next-gen fintech apps on top of it (LN being the most important to me). Its fundamentals have never been healthier than ever: hashrate growth, daily txs, value transferred, new users etc.
To me, there's no competitor in this sense for bitcoin after 2010. History is proving satoshi was right from the start.
978  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: POLKADOT is making a lot of noise right now. What do you think? on: January 26, 2021, 08:32:12 AM
If you read the story of how Polkadot was born you might find yourself amused. Gavin Wood first discovered bitcoin, then co-founded Ethereum with Vitalik and after that moved to develop Parity where he started thinking that Ethereum, as it was, couldn't survive the future hence he had the idea of developing DOT.
It looks like a very interesting project (alongsinde Kusama which is a kind of live testnet for developing bleeding-edge applications on top of DOT) but I didn't like how it was sold in the first place. I have never been a fan of ICOs and pre-sales.
979  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ChainLink - LINK - current status review and analysis / discussion on: January 26, 2021, 08:25:11 AM
I believe what made a huge difference for ChainLink was to be able to host an oracle at SWIFT, the clearinghouse of all major financial transactions in the world. Then the news of collaborating with partners such as Google, Oracle, Gartner and others gave them another boost. Honestly, to me, is just another protocol. There are many projects that compete on the same field and I don't see Link prevailing.
980  Bitcoin / Press / 2021-1-25 Coindesk - Bitcoin Flushes ‘Weak Hands’ as Ethereum Hits New All-Time on: January 25, 2021, 03:44:49 PM
Quote
Bitcoin (BTC) was higher on Monday at around $33,000, rebounding after a 9.9% drop in the seven days through Sunday, the biggest weekly drop since August.

“Bitcoin is seeing some consolidation itself after surviving another run at $30,000,” Craig Erlam, senior market analyst for the London-based foreign exchange brokerage Oanda, wrote Monday in an investor update. “A move back above $35,000 may start to change the conversation but the trend is against it these last few weeks and a move lower still looks more likely.”

Ether (ETH), the main cryptocurrency of the Ethereum blockchain, rose early Monday to a new all-time high price of $1,476.12. Ether, which is the second-biggest digital asset by market value after bitcoin, has nearly doubled just in January alone.

https://www.coindesk.com/first-mover-bitcoin-weak-ethereum-all-time-high

I like when senior market analysts spread their wisdom about bitcoin price movements, they seem to always know what's happening.  Smiley
Joking apart, there's an interesting analysis on the difference which is building between US/Asia trading patterns
Quote
Comparing bitcoin’s price moves during Asia daytime hours and American hours (split into 12 hours each) shows a clear pattern of relentless buying during the North American trading hours and selling in Asia, mainly by large investors (known as whales) and cryptocurrency miners.
The pattern emerged following the March 2020 price crash and had endured until two weeks ago when bitcoin reached record highs above $41,900. Since then, the strength during U.S. hours has lost momentum, QCP Capital noted in its Telegram channel.
