982  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Looking for Historical Bitcoin Core Source on: June 06, 2019, 05:46:36 AM
Right from January 2009 to till date, there have been numerous significant changes in the bitcoin source codes. The earliest 0.1.0 code released on January 9,2009 was much more easier to read and understand for beginners like me rather than reading the complex code which is available now in the repository. I don't read the code more often rather than undestanding of the posted issues and pull request in the github repository.

There was a electronic cash source code (bitcoin was probably called so by satoshi during the early development days) which were provided to people who requested them by satoshi way back in November 2008. They had broken codes and contains only main.cpp, main.h, node.cpp and node.h. There were lots of functions missing when they were compared with the 0.1.0 code. Here is the link for the 2008 version : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=382374.0

As days progressed, main.cpp was too big to make them more readable. Hence the main.cpp which were present in the earlier versions were split into validation.cpp and net_processing.cpp.

If you want to read a basic version of bitcoin stick onto the 0.1.0 source code and the Novemeber 2008 source codes. If you want to help the developers in testing and code review, it would be much more difficult to get on track with the newer code if you read the old code.

984  Other / Meta / Re: Can we expect some active mod in India forum? on: May 28, 2019, 04:41:02 AM
After reading the  eality below reply , erikalui , I can say that "Unhandled report " in your case is soft bad.Mods are unsure whether they should take action on it or not. So it will remain unhandled forever.
If the reports were made for an Indian language, the report gets marked as unhandled and none of the mods would act upon them since they are not really aware of the language. That's the bigger problem which lies in the Indian Board. The English reports are getting handled quite often as they are meant to be and there seems to be not much problem associated with that. We also need to note that we don't need to report posts in Off-Topic (India) unless they are promotional spams.

I am saying this time and again, my reports are being handled by the global moderator, not sure who that is but it is handled  Wink.

985  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] BestMixer Signature Campaign | Sr. Members - Legendary | Up to 0.01225BTC on: May 23, 2019, 04:57:03 AM
The whole process went like this:

...snip...

I don't want any of you to feel at risk, at the end of the day I offer a service and they reached out to me (I'm not in any danger, neither are you). As for the origin of the bitcoin, it should not matter too much at this point either. Although I've never come across any case where someone got screwed over just for receiving BTC from a questionable source. Time will tell I guess but as I previously mentioned, none of us should be in any danger.
Thanks for being transparent enough and opening up about the payments. Let us hope for the best.

Manager nor the participants never did something wrong in this campaign, and don't view mixer as an illegal thing as it's main purpose is to help users preserve it's privacy. There are a lot of mixers in the space, probably the reason for shut down is they violated the law and this could be related to anti money laundering.
Not just that. The mixed coins had a criminal origin and the service was used as a tool to cover the criminal money.

The Dutch FIOD has gathered information on all the interactions on this platform in the past year. This includes IP-addresses, transaction details, bitcoin addresses and chat messages. This information will now be analysed by the FIOD in cooperation with Europol and intelligence packages will be shared with other countries.

This news has more to do with people who used the mixer, but the transaction details is what needs to be taken into account.

Thanks for the payment Hhampuz.

But since the mixer were closed recently with some serious investigations taking place, I would like to know from where did you receive their payment and pay us? This was running in my mind right from today morning once the website was seized! If the payments for the whole campaign period were made from the mixed coins wouldn't that be little bit dangerous on your side and from our side? With coin tracking taking place, wouldn't that lead up straight to this campaign money?

Posting this not to create a confusion among the participants, but to be safer on the other side. Dutch officials claim the coins were of criminal origin and seems to be used for money laundering services, so if our payment coins were the mixed one wouldn't it create a havoc in the minds of participants? Not everyone who participated in the campaign would be aware of a mixing service, so liquidating might create a problem for them.  Sad
988  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Loaded Coins Do You Care Where The Funding Comes From on: May 22, 2019, 07:46:16 PM
As similar to Fiat money which changes hands quite often and we becoming the owner finally, the same does happen with btc too. But to the contrary, btc are primarily being used for illegal payment activities in dark net and as such they are being liquidated or probably mixed to become more anonymous. Old coin makers such as Casascius might have better history of coins since btc wasn't really famous back then, but with the hike in prices in late 2017 we shouldn't be really expecting a clean non-scammy coin or where they came from. Buying BTCC coins is the only alternative if you are really concerned about the history of coins/where they came from.

The pics looks absolutely stunning and mind-boggling  Shocked I ordered few pennies and short rolls from Chris and I really loved his doodles along with his pennies. And bro you have a great collection of pennies out there with some beautiful kialaras! So what's next? Casascius  or Bitbills?  Shocked I would love to see more pics of your collection so that it would motivate me more in buying these beauties. Truly speaking, you should have made a unboxing video of this!  Sad

P.S As xhomerx said, you should open a museum to display your collectibles   Smiley

While I was browsing through the Bitcoin Discussion board, found 2 guys discussing the same topics about Books based on cryptocurrency. I still can't figure out why there is a sudden traction on cryptocurrecy books in recent times in the forum.

Accounts connected : naveenvithan and naveenjunior

Both have the same name, registered here to spam the same shit, registered on the same dates, posting during the same days, same time, same topics and what not. Just leaving these accounts here, so that when they become more prominent spammers it would be easier to report their posts.

991  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to save blocks? on: May 20, 2019, 10:05:53 AM
Assuming OP has bitcoin core running in his PC,

There are possibilities of such re-downloading when OP didn't shut down his core wallet properly. When there is a force shutting down of the wallet or the PC, the downloaded blocks should be present in the blk*.dat and they weren't written to the HDD completely. Not sure still, but there seems to be a possibility of such cases when the download starts from the genesis block.

@MakFrogz During sync time, you could increase the dbcache in the bitcoin.conf file. This could increase the chances of syncing up the download and saving the blocks in the HDD. I don't use a full node much, but based on my understanding I have answered.
992  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Design behind cryptocurrency exchanges' payment processing on: May 20, 2019, 05:27:35 AM
Cryptocurrency exchanges operate in a very much different way than they are intended to do so. The updation of the balances and other transfers are all limited to the front end of the exchanges and there isn't any real transfers taking place unless you withdraw or deposit your coins. I don't use centralized exchanges much, but based on my understanding they do move our deposited coins to their cold storage wallet once they receive the coins.

They have a cold storage wallet which isn't really exposed all the time to the public traders. Apart from that, they do have a wallet which can generate thousands of address for many traders. So when a trader creates an account in an exchange, a getnewaddress rpc is called and the generated address is shown to the trader. They deposit their bitcoins to the generated address. Here in the back end code, the exchanges move our coins from the hot wallet to their cold storage for security purposes but there isn't any real balance change taking place in the front end of the exchange. So the trader's balance is same as what he deposited in the exchange. Perhaps, this is more commonly being followed in most of the exchanges but some exchanges keep their balances in the hot wallet itself.

Once a trader sells his coins in the exchange, the balance gets updated in his account as 0 but there wouldn't be any real blockchain transaction taking place since the coins are present in the cold storage. So here the buyer account is filled with new balance. You could even check this out by manually tracing the transaction in a centralized exchange. The exchanges code uses the listaddressgroupings command and get a list of addresses which have been generated and used and keeps those addresses aside.

When the buyer of your coins initiates a withdrawal, a request is sent to the cold storage and that's the time when the real transaction takes place. The exchange cold wallet probably uses the bitcoin's coin selection algorithm to check for the UTXO and spend them in one of the transaction inputs. By this way, transaction fees are reduced to a much larger extent and the UTXO set has been reduced.

More info on coin selection algorithm : Murch's coin selection Strategies and gmaxwell's coin selection theory

Hope this helps.

If, not paying the bounty hunters their worthless shit tokens deserves a tag, then we need to tag 1/5 ICO accounts daily. Most of them delay their token payments and some might ask for a deposit to pay their tokens. Bounties are too risky, and at the same time consumes much of the bounty hunter's work too (ignoring the signature spam, twitter and facebook adverts). I am just ignoring the way how bad these hunters destroy this forum, but some of the translators and article writers does a honest job and they get scammed easily. As most of us know, it's not just easier to translate the whole whitepaper in their native language, but most of them are not getting paid.

ICO companies fear a lot while releasing their tokens. That's the primary reason for their delay since for a longer time, these bounty hunters were considered to be the bears which might destroy the whole market for their token. Last month when I was going through one old thread in the Serious Discussion board, a hunter was blaming the ICO company which demanded ETH from the hunters for relesing the bounty tokens.

Negative Feedback for companies like these is the only way to prevent people from getting scammed, but most of the bounty hunters live a low life and would never likely learn from their mistakes.
994  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: How i can restore my coinomi walet balance? on: May 17, 2019, 05:53:03 AM
The Next button and Cancel button should be present in the bottom, below the BIP39 Passphrase checker button.

Try to maximize your screen and check back. I use coinomi rarely, but never encountered such an issue. Probably the button should be hidden in the taskbar.
995  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can they really do this in Smart contract? on: May 16, 2019, 06:46:25 PM
Distribution can be controlled through the use of smart contracts, but the total supply can be changed when the commit access guy in git takes advantage of their position and scams for additional money such as the case of Oyster Protocol Token. You can lock the tokens by deploying a smart contract in the Eth blockchain. I am not much sure of this in Eth, but they can be carried out successfully in bitcoin blockchain through the use of nlocktime.

Here a receives receives his share of money only after certain blocks are mined and added to the blockchain. When you are paying to an address and add a nlocktime, the  coins are not mined till the specified block is reached and they are unlocked to the receiver's address.
996  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best Blockchain Books, Bitcoin Movies And Documentaries on: May 16, 2019, 11:32:09 AM
You have missed some of the interesting and important books about blockchain and bitcoin. Though Andreas book on mastering bitcoin is top-notch, they are targeted specifically for developer audience. He takes his writing from a simple newbie style to an advanced developer-understandable writing.

Digital Gold by Nathaniel Popper was one among my favourite books on the history of bitcoin told from a newbie perspective. The book talks about Hal Finney's experience with satoshi on the night of the first software announcement, what paved the attack on Mt.Gox, Winklevoss investments and some of the key important moments in the history of bitcoin over the years. If we start reading the book, it would be more like a Bitcoin Movie rather than a book.

Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Technologies - Princeton University Though I have never read this book, but thinking of trying it out in future. This book delves much deeper into the cryptography and technical aspects of the digital money.

Internet of Money A collection of talks by Andreas in the form of a book. He talks about the economics behind the money and more importantly why you need the digital money and why they are better than the fiat money. Must have a read if you are interested on knowing why you need to use Bitcoin and move away yourself from the fiat thing.

Apart from your mentioned books, these are much needed if you want to have a clear grasp on the concepts and economics behind the technology.

Just assume and believe what you found, and wrote above are right, it somehow shows that not all account buyers are bad guys. I knew that prominent users there tend to hate account buyers, for some understandable reasons: potential scammers, and spammers. However, I remembered that some of DT1 members wrote that it might be fine if someone buy an account, and only use it for bounty, with good quality posts. In that post, the DT1 member emphazies that it takes time to see progress of bought accounts, before removing red tags. I think it is fine with neutral tags, despite the fact that it is still unfair with users have to contribute hardly to rank up. Maybe that DT1 member will see my post today.  Smiley
Yes, that's true. His contribution to the forum was outstanding for him to be made a MOD. Buying and Selling of accounts are hardly acted upon, only when they bought the account for the primary reason for spamming and ruining the forum on the whole. Either we may or may not be a shitposter in our early forum days but we need to improve over time and need to contribute. Third World Bounty Hunters never realize this and would continue spamming the forum with their reports.

Hell yes, and I'm curious to know who that person is.  Hilariousandco alluded to it being a member who ought to be a mod, but the member was never named.  I have a short list of suspects, though.  In any case, I think it's fantastic that his reports are being acted on.
theymos way of appointing a MOD was very much different than we thought. Reports are a primary aspect but the reporter should have gained trust from theymos and the community for them to be considered for the position. We need to wait patiently, until the suspected plagiarism checker gets into limelight with his official appointment.
