981  Economy / Securities / Re: [ANNOUNCE GLBSE] 1500 PPT.A Pirate Pass Through Bonds on: April 21, 2012, 02:21:37 AM
I was capturing the order book at one minute intervals up to the trigger (my last scrape about 5 seconds before the issue).  Yes, the 500 bid at 1.07 came in the last two minutes.

With four minutes to go, total bids were around 2850 before going to 3500 and then 4174.  At the close it fell to 3585 and could be due to re-bidding.

Similarly, the cut-off increased from 1.055 to 1.06, 1.07 and then dipped to 1.068.

Excellent, now I don't have to feel like I left anything on the table at a bit over 1.07. What clock did you go by?

I'm linked to internet time servers, and I would expect glbse to be the same.  Allowed for the request lag and refresh, then a simple bit of analysis formulas to look at all the bids.

At least next week's bond issue will not take so much work.

The number of bonds issued is decided approximately 24 hours ahead of the bond close time.  We have funded reserves up to a particular level, setting a safe maximum.  This is set out in the glbse contract.  For this week, we had narrowed the range before the announcement, and currently have greater reserves than necessary.

We have set a maximum weekly limit and I see no reason to alter that to accommodate a third party.

And for entertainment purposes, I have made this loan to JCole today.

Interesting (commenting to sub).

51% attacks are against the chain, rather than the exchanges, but doing so isn't a profit maximising activity as they show up pretty quickly and the movement of actual money isn't as easy as coins.  There are better ways of extracting maximum coins than that.

Also, if you wanted to do some research, you can work out who the person is in less than a minute (I re-did it now and it took about 5 seconds.)

edit: I note you've been registered about 12 hours.  Did you read the 40+ pages in the pirate thread where most of this has been discussed before?

987  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 1500 PPT.A Bonds for sale - fantastic returns for the small investors! on: April 20, 2012, 08:52:29 PM
Get an account on GLBSE.com and bid 1 btc at a price you think will get you in the top 1500.  Or wait a week and put it in the next bond if you think the price would be lower.

Alternatives, stick it into a deposit/bank and get around 1%/wk rather than the 5-7% the ppt bonds are likely to pay.

It depends on if you have a lots or a few coins.  If you are sitting on just 1 coin, that might be a big risk.  If you have 100, it might not matter so much.  Strangely enough, I haven't had any requests for loans from people wanting to buy bonds.

Well, as in life there are people who will be mean for no special reason, and others who will be nice for no special reason.

Actually, it does make sense if you consider the possible transaction costs of getting $13 into bitcoins.  All you need is a $5 fee somewhere and it makes it impractical.

Are you still accepting deposits? I'm looking to provide 50 coins at current deposit rates.

Yes.  Current space is around 700 before I need to worry about adding additional reserves.  pm me for a deposit/account address.

Well, that is the point, you can invest 1btc or many.

Also, different people have different circumstances.  When I started with bitcoins I was buying at $16, and ended up with a paper loss of several thousand dollars.  Other people can't afford that, so might have only purchased 10 rather than 100  (or a few hundred).  I've been building my stake for a while now, and manage my risk and position.  I can afford to lose 2000 coins, but that would hurt a little.  However, I have a lot more than that tied up in coins currently.

Who's pirate and why do you trust him?

At least one of the backers of PPT actually knows Pirate in real life (if you read enough, you can work out who).  I have had my pirate account since December and have had greater than 100% return, he has been responsive to requests and has good liquidity (for the occasions I've needed a quick 500 coins for different things).  But the point is, you don't need to necessarily trust Pirate as the bonds are back by reserved coins in the PPT business, and by six people who value their reputations and business in the bitcoin world.
So from here, it's safe to say that if SHTF, it's possible to approach pirate in rl to get the moolah back?

What's pirate's real name? It's hard to invest coins in someone that's hiding behind a forum account.

Every traded on e-bay?  Paying money to someone on the other side of a trading account?

Trusting someone hiding behind a forum account is what I do in the lending section - I've send hundreds of coins to people I don't know (literally tens of thousands of dollars) and got back most of them.  That's partly why interest rates are high, but losses are manageable and most people are basically good (or at least neutral).  There are a few who are just scum.

Pirate has spent a lot of time building his businesses and making things work.  He is one of the more trusted traders on bitcoin-otc as well.

995  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Who is still Mining? on: April 20, 2012, 09:29:45 AM
Bitcoin has always been a get rich slow scheme.  If you already own a heap of stuff, mining can be marginally profitable.  For instance, I used to do boinc, now I mine, and it covers my power costs and keeps the house warm (about 6Ghash).  But my main interests in BTC are elsewhere, and mining is just a hobby.

Back when coins were $15+ the payback was short, but at $5, most will be break-even or slightly profitable.

sub'ed and watching - have always had good service from these guys, including resolution of different problems with my account.
997  Economy / Securities / Re: [ANNOUNCE GLBSE] 1500 PPT.A Pirate Pass Through Bonds on: April 20, 2012, 09:17:23 AM
Wow, GLBSE surely now gets Bitcoins coming in like a medium sized exchange! Shocked

2231 valid bids, 2300.4182609 BTC in valid bids, average bid 1.031, 1500 shares end at 1.012 per share. Bids lower than that would currently not get filled (and there is a crazy amount of high bids already - the upper 1/3 of currently winning bids is above 1.06)

There are more bids in here than MtGox exchanged in BTC <--> EUR in the last 24h (~1600 BTC)!

I guess, I'll just take my chances next week and hope for a lower price when the excitement might have cooled down a bit...

Hi Sukrim,

There is the possibility that the hype will grow as people see 20%+ returns being made on small deposits/purchases.  From an issuer point of view, it is encouraging, and there is a bit of learning and track-record to establish as well.  So overall, it's looking like a good result for both sides.  I also note the volume is something to watch - investing or providing returns to 6k-8k or coins on top of everything else going on raises a different set of issues, but that's one of the interesting aspects of the bitcoin economy.

For interest, I've been tracking the bids across the day.  The 1500 issue now cuts across at 1.011 with 731 that will not get filled  (406 of bids at 1.01).  For me, I'll check again when I wake up, but I'm sure others will be looking closely at it as the close-off gets closer.

998  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: {ANNOUNCEMENT} WBX Exchange Frozen on: April 20, 2012, 05:03:39 AM
Yes - I paid for two things today - the ASIC search, and $4 for a PPSR search that turned up nothing.  Doing some other things today before I do some more tracking, and pin an address on the claim I'm going to make.  If I can get enough, I might be able to simply sell it to a collection agency, otherwise I'll be heading to (probably) Melbourne or maybe to the Gold Coast and the disputes tribunal.  By June I think my brother will be back in Brisbane, and sure he'd like an easy grand making a debt collection visit.

I think it's pretty clear (or should have been) that taking action against the company is incorrect - it's a personal activity.
999  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a Loan, + build my credibility on: April 20, 2012, 04:22:31 AM
Given the stickies in this section, the info in this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=76594.0), and the regular contact I have with several others, I think my recommendation would be conflicted.

However, Hashking completed a decent sized loan with me (he repaid in full and on time back on 29th March), and he's putting in some decent work into the deposit side of his business.

<off-topic> Not trolling psy.  Anyway, my daughter says I suck at trolling. </off-topic>

Back on topic, there is quite a lot of information in the post history to suggest different people (I skimmed it a few hours ago), and like many people new to the lending pages, small loans are a good way to start on both sides.
