In any case, don't advertise tax-reduction yet.  This could take up to 6 more months."

David has offered to publish the scan of the official approval by the administration later in the day.
Straight from my scanner

Regarding the 6 month tax-deduction, this is the legal maximum, I fully expect it to be faster.
982  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] Community effort to get Monero airtime on Lets talk Bitcoin. on: September 04, 2014, 11:58:56 PM
Do we have a volunteer from the core team that would want to be on LTB? I feel that the key talking points will be tech related. For example explaining ring signatures in simple terms will be important as will comparing Monero against BTC, DRK, Zerocash/Zerocoin, ANC, BBr, etc, etc. I'd say that only someone with a strong tech background would be up to the task.
I'm busy with relocating to Malla for the moment. But by mid-October, I will be available.
983  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 03, 2014, 05:19:02 PM
1.  Sorry for putting the apostrophe in the wrong place.  Thanks Spelling Nazi.   Roll Eyes
2. Linux = Linus Torvalds UNIX
Linus Torvalds' UNIX.
When you have both a possessive and a word ending in -s, you use an apostrophe without s. so, "s'" and not "s's".

Regarding all the buzz about me, what really matters is:
1. Crowds are stupids. If not, why was the dedicated thread so much balanced? A handful of persons talking, intelligent conversations.
this is about crowd thinking, so don't feel insulted as a person - it is like considering statistics are about you - they aren't. I'm stupid in a crowd too
2. It's about terminology ("We just got all confused with our words"). First thing to do when discussing ideas with someone: make sure we are talking about the same thing.
3. No snap judgement. Do you invest your BTC in the new flashy coin or do you investigate before? Same for judging someone (any one, even a convicted criminal, an incompetent worker or an politician).

This is not about me. This is about us.
And thanks to Nekomata for the sunk cost fallacy. It was a great read, which I will hopefully put into practice in the future (I involuntarily put it into practice this morning, before even knowing it by name). The more it goes, the more I am interested in becoming a rationalist but that's another topic Smiley

Could someone explain why exactly the recommended block size is only 1600?
If you plan to open your wallet only once a month.
Default value are meant to be conservative - that's the point, default must be secure.

We are working on a "wizard-like" feature where you just enter how often you plan to open your wallet and the wallet will auto-optimise accordingly. No ETA, though.

ZeeWolf and I were able to get the client to switch GUI stylesheets on runtime. This means that everyone will be able to use customizable GUI's in the next wallet release. We will have one or two official themes, and then leave additional customization to the end user doing the staking  Wink
And yet another exclusive from HYP Smiley

I think a light and dark theme (similar to Poloniex GUI) would be cool to have.  Any thoughts?
Definitely good. I would go as far as having two: one with serif fonts (like poloniex.com) and one with sans-serif (like the present wallet). I hope that this way Poloniex will understand that their trademark serif is not so great.

"Poloniex: the only exchange with serif fonts" Wink

Ring signatures are unwound when the tax authorities require you to provide your password to justify your tax basis.

Use more than 1 wallet? Plausible deniability is such a nice toy. And why password? Give them a viewkey to whatever wallet you want to have exposed. Ideally you can even password protect a wallet with different keys who then unlock whichever viewkey you want to release, like the hiddenos feature of safeguard and truecrypt.

mafort proposed to write a PoS guide. I started something here (What is PoS), please everyone correct and extend and make it as simple as possible. Mafort, you told me on IRC you're a good editor, so I'm counting on you Smiley You have carte blanche. You can use this document (NOBL stake) as an inspiration, but beware not to be polluted by other people's writing, it could end up counter-productive.

And I welcome bitmaster as our new Facebookmaster Smiley
987  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HyperStake Development on: September 02, 2014, 09:55:19 AM
Some other ideas being discussed

Market strenghtening bot
For HYP I was thinking about throwing a bot on the market that promotes market strength, instead of having one of those highest bid bots, or an arb bot that widens the spread. It would be a low profile bot that adds liquidity, instead of pissing everyone off.

Good thing, we know how liquidity is an issue with high-PoS.
And one more experiment for HYP!
989  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ ANN ] Buy flight ticket with bitcoin on: September 01, 2014, 07:22:49 PM
One of the biggest Eastern Europe flight tickets selling platform opens www.abitsky.com

Fly where ever you want and pay in BTC!

Never heard of them, Easyjet and Ryanair are so much more renowned for ticket sales.

This is subplatform of www.greitai.lt and is dedicated only for trade with BTC.

It should build pretty much anywhere as it's written in Golang. Initial daemon/wallet will be command line.
Golang crypto? Yam yam.
Ceci:
- don't invest more than you can afford to lose
- if you don't understand, don't invest
- don't buy at the top of bubble
presstab ?

Hey man,

I have always been a huge xmr supporter as you know, and always will be.

But I am a little concerned about BBR.

I didn't take it seriously at first because of the name and other factors but boolberry dev is actually not fucking around.

I just downloaded the GUI and it synced in about 15 minutes with very little memory usage. I understand they have solved the block chain blow problem, and done address aliases and a bunch of oner shit that monero has not done. I will be messaging the devs today to talk about this.

It seems boolberry development is coming along much faster than monero which seriously concerns me...what do you think about this...
- That's BBR has been instamined
- everything good from BBR is integrated into XMR or is planned to be
- the development of BBR is NOT much faster than XMR (most of the development happens outside of the main XMR rep)
- address aliases is a case of something that looks nice but is actually not (landgrab, for start)
- we highly suspect zoidberg to be a splinter from the CryptoNote/Bytecoin team
- part of the buzz is about this SuperNode thing - we read the teleport whitepaper and we were not impressed at all
- monero will obfuscate your IP, BBR has no plan to (of course, they could add it later, but the fact they did not announce anything in that direction is revealing)
- there is a reason why we did not solved it yet. There are a lot of fundamentals to take care of and the BBR code has not taken care of them. We are in the process of revamping the whole code for this very reason and that's also the reason why we recruited academicians
- from a non technical point of view, I notice that you are contacting me right at the top of a BBR bubble. This leads me to consider that you are getting blinded by the delusion of the bubble. We very careful
- also for a non technical point of view, XMR as an adoption rate much higher than BBR, a much bigger volume and an ecosystem is getting created. Even if BBR was technically superior to XMR (which it is not) this alone should make you think.

Of course I am biased as an XMR dev. BBR is still the best altnote after XMR and I know some people who are hedging XMR with BBR (a nice way to get more XMR if you pick BBR at the right time, which I believe is over by now). Still, be warned.

And remember:
- don't invest more than you can't afford to lose
- if you don't understand, don't invest
- don't buy at the top of bubble

Regards

Argument : l'anonymat. Avec XMR, tu as le choix (viewkey), avec BTC tu ne l'a pas.

Thanks Fixed. I am actually going to do a production compile today and release a beta version, so I'll see if I missed anything else.
Just tried to compile:
Quote
Makefile:320: recipe for target 'HoboNickels-qt' failed

Code:
Code:
cd ~/cryptos && rm -rf HoboNickels && git clone git://github.com/Tranz5/HoboNickels && cd HoboNickels && qmake-qt4 HoboNickels-qt.pro && make

The HoboNickels Explorer has been updated to the latest version of CCE 3.5.

Added Features:

Market Ticker is now active. Removed the marquee. Market information updates every time the database updates.

Address owner claim system:

One can now claim ownership of an address on the HoboNickels chain if it has been seen on the network. For now the owner information shows up in the top 1000 balances. Future plans include making  owner information available if one hovers any address in the explorer.
To claim an address, one needs to use the message signing system in the HoboNickels client. Complete instructions can been seen on the address claim page:

http://hbn.cryptocoinexplorer.com/claim
I mentionned it for HYP. Could you develop it for HyperStake?
