1  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ POLL ] The Rematch: FURY vs USYK 21st December 2024 on: June 13, 2024, 03:31:59 PM
https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/28421010/tyson-fury-escorted-out-of-pub-bouncers-collapse-outside/

Tyson was kicked out of a club on Friday for being drunk. He then collapsed on the floor outside which was caught on video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/xS2Jh7dNtQY

If this is a one off then I shouldn't look too much into it but is he going to go off the rails again? Not a good look if he's going to be facing Usyk again later this year.

Hopefully that was only a one-off thing. But if that's true that he didn't drink in over a year, then it doesn't look like a good time to start.
I'm not sure if that was due to not coping with the loss too well or not, but the truth is, he was taking a lot of pride from being undefeated and that was taken away from him.
He was also emphasising his Christian faith a lot, often claiming it was the source of his success, but Usyk seemed to "outperform" him in that area too (if we could say that at all). From the outside perspective, Usyk looks much more devoted and serious in his faith.

Apparently they have found the replacement for Mike Tyson and Jake Paul is rumoured to face Mike Perry on 20th July.
I think most would be familiar with Mike Perry, but for those who aren't, he's a former MMA fighter who's now a bare-knuckle fighting superstar.
Given he's not retired as most of Paul's previous opponents, it could be a biggest challenge Paul has faced to date.

Not sure if this thread is monitored by anyone from the hugewin team, but is there any particular reason that you no longer support betting on any MMA events?
I don't think it was due to lack of popularity, as they must've been more popular than say darts, snooker, or handball.
I'm hoping you'll bring them back soon. Just my 2 cents.

I think one of the refs goals is to not let fighter get serious health problems during the fight. With the situation in Cannonier vs Imavov, Cannonier got like 20 or 25 strikes. Some of them he has defended, some of them have connected, but he hasnt thrown anything in counter. That is why ref could have though that it was a standing knockout and Cannonier was acting only on reflexes.

But that's the thing, Canonnier was in trouble but clearly wasn't acting on reflexes alone, he wasn't throwing many punches because it would be a reckless thing to do, instead he was keeping his guard up and was looking for a clinch.
He actually did throw a right hook, got countered with a left that didn't really land and then the referee stopped it.

Btw, on judges score cards, it was 2-1 on two cards in Cannonier favor and 1-1 by that time. Anyway they have a soil for a rematch now. Imavov and Cannonier are #4 and #5 and have switched places. I dont that Cannonier has lost much from that loss (except money and record). He was not on series of wins. So it would be good if UFC match makers make them meet again.

That loss might not have had much impact on his ranking position, but Jared is 40 years old, if he was hoping for another title shot in his career, he couldn't afford any stepbacks.
Sure, a rematch would make a lot of sense, but it's not really going to be a dream fight for either of them.

5  Other / Meta / Re: Non-Profit Forum Signatures Initiative on: June 09, 2024, 04:43:30 PM
Why don't we just add those to the "Overview of signature campaigns" thread? It would make more sense to have all the non-profit signature campaigns (with at least 1000 views on the topic to prevent spam) at the bottom of the post, after all of the paid signature campaigns. No need for the fancy table formatting either, just a link to each thread with the name on it.

Good question, but I think, even if it's not explicitly stated, that thread is only meant for paid-for campaigns that pay out in bitcoins. Any campaigns that pay in anything other than BTC would be excluded, so, by that logic, I don't think Mitchell would go with that.
Also, ralle14, who tends to post the updates, already has a lot of work to keep it up to date.
6  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 09, 2024, 04:18:41 PM
I do understand the logic behind referees caring about fighters and stopping fights when they see they're just about to get badly KO'd but announcing Cannonier's loss was pre-mature. Yes, he got rocked, but he was successfully defending himself (including escaping) and looked like he was recovering and the worst was behind him when the ref waived his arms to stop it.

Big win by Reyes. He was an underdog, due to his 4-losses streak and over 1.5 year inactivity caused by health problems, but he managed to surprise Jacoby with a left knee and finished the job with punches. He's not yet that old at 34, so might still be able to climb back at the top of the light heavyweight.

How about this one??
BitcoinCleanup.com charity signature/avatar/social media campaign Members+
I was looking for a good free signature to fill up my space for the main time, and I saw this. I don’t know if you have come across the thread, as I believe some now match your description.

I like how they made an effort to create signature codes for different ranks.
I'd wear one, but I'm not 100% convinced I agree with the arguments on the website. So will give it a pass, but maybe others will go for it.

I like this one. I'm happy to wear their signature for a while.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far and keep them coming!

I like the project so happy to promote it for a while, while I'm not participating in any paid-for campaign.

OK, so I was wrong and the IBF introduced the interim belt and put it on the line in Hrgovic Vs Dubois.
I'm not sure if that means that Usyk is now more or less likely to get stripped. Maybe he won't get stripped, but the purpose of interim belts was always to act as a replacement for when the original champ is unable to fight. But, if the IBF decides not to take it away from Usyk, we'll have a situation where we'll have 2 IBF title defences in parallel, one for the normal belt, and one for the interim one. So that would be quite a departure from what you'd normally expect to see.

And if Usyk wins the rematch with Fury, I have my doubts if he'll be interested in fighting the winner of Dubois Vs AJ, as he already fought both of them fairly recently (AJ twice). If Fury comes on the top in the rematch, a fight between him and Joshua (if he wins as well) would be a big one and long overdue.

And after that HI Turki Alalshikh also made official that Bivol’s fight with Beterbiev will be this October 12. And I think Beterbiev could be around 80-90% and his injuries are healing enough to be ready for October. I think that's what we are looking, the next biggest fight for this year, unification and then we also have David Benavidez inserting his name in the LHW division.

I didn't know the date was announced. October is not very far away. Hopefully they gave enough time to Arthur to recover properly. He's not the youngest anymore and knee injury is one of the worst, as it makes any boxing or cardio training impossible, maybe except for some upper body strength exercises.
This will be the biggest fight in Beterbiev's career, so he shouldn't rush to it until he's 100% healthy.
11  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump's big promises on: June 07, 2024, 02:39:15 PM
I've seen some articles/videos speculating that support of of cryptocurrency investors (and there are millions of them in the US) could be a deciding factor in the upcoming presidential elections.
That's why Trump, who back in the days wasn't very enthusiastic towards Bitcoin (although I wouldn't say he was against it) has now become 100% pro-crypto.
It will be much harder for the Democrats and Biden to bring the crypto crowd on their side, given they were known for being outright hostile to the industry, with special mention to Elizabeth Warren, who, if I remember correctly, even proposed a tax on unrealised crypto-gains, which is insane.

(...) Chelsea is also building a new era with Enzo Maresca. (...)

Replacing Pochettino with Maresca was a weird move given it was Pochettino's first year with the club and he had a really good end of the season, indicating that things were starting to work out. I'd understand if Chelsea managed to secure a contract with some high-profile manager, but Maresca is not one of them. He's only success was to lead Leicester to the Premier League.
13  Other / Meta / Non-Profit Forum Signatures Initiative on: June 05, 2024, 09:55:55 PM
I thought it could be a good idea to have a dedicated thread for any worthy projects that members who are not participating in paid-for signature campaigns could advertise in their signatures.

It could be anything from charities (preferably those accepting bitcoins), informational websites, community initiatives (e.g. Pizza Day contest topic), raising awareness of certain issues (e.g. the Ross Ulbricht case) etc.

If anyone has anything, please post it here - include a link (if applicable) and a short description.
Of course, any ready-to-use signature code would be ideal, but if (like me) you don't have the skills to design such, you can post it without it. Maybe members who are in the signature design business could create signatures to showcase their skills and advertise their services.

The idea might not get much traction, but I think it's worth a try.

p.s. If Meta is not the right board for this - mods please move it.
p.s.2 If a similar thread already exists, please send a link and I'll lock this one.

Dana White has said that Conor is dropping out of UFC 303 with an injury to his leg that was suffered during sparring. No word of it’s the same shin he broke last time, but it sounds like it. I don’t see how Conor comes back from this. In another couple years when he would be ready to fight again he’ll just be too far removed from the fight game and too old.

Source?

I can't find anything confirming this.
But if true, that's likely the end of McGregor's career. Unless it's some minor injury, in which case they could just push it back by a month or so.
If the fight doesn't happen, Chandler will be the biggest victim.
16  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for June on: June 05, 2024, 03:58:41 PM
That's a tough one. On one hand it looks like we're ripe for a start of a bull run, on the other - summertime historically isn't the best time for stock market or cryptocurrencies.
But even if the "proper" bull-run doesn't happen until later in the year, we might see BTC breaking the $75k mark as we're not very far away from that.
17  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin Always Be in an Uptrend? on: June 05, 2024, 03:47:13 PM
To answer the question in the OP "Will Bitcoin Always Be in an Uptrend?":
It's not guaranteed in any way.
On one hand, if we assume than the demand will at least stay on a constant level, then yes, we should expect a long-term uptrend due to:
- decreasing block rewards
- bitcoins lost forever
- USD inflation

But the demand is not guaranteed and could go down for various reasons, i.e. people get bored and will move to other types of investments, BTC get's overregulated or co-opted to the point it's no longer decentralised and censorship-free and loses its purpose etc.
18  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Daily FUD Thread: Michael Saylor dumps his MSTR shares on: June 05, 2024, 03:40:27 PM
https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/19/bitcoin-bull-michael-saylor-made-370-million-from-microstrategy-sales.html

So, apparently, Michael Saylor has unloaded 400k of his Microstrategy shares, which, at this point, are largely backed by BTC and could be used as a proxy for investing in Bitcoin.
What do you take of it? Was all his talk about accumulating Bitcoin forever and never selling just an act? Or was he genuine but just wanted to cash out with ~£370 millions for whatever reason?
Somehow I don't think he'll be buying bitcoins with his proceeds.

lol OP why would you care that he sold stock. He sold stock. Not bitcoin. Stock. Not bitcoin. Say it again lol. Him selling stock has nothing to do with him selling bitcoin. He could have sold bitcoin. But he didn't. He sold stock, not bitcoin. He has never said anything about not selling any of his stock. So what exactly are you complaining about? He has these two different assets, one he said he won't sell, and he didn't. The other one he sold.

Take a deep breath and calm down lad. I've never said he sold BTC, I said he sold stocks, which are backed by BTC, which is stated in the very post you quoted.
If he held "his" bitcoin through his company, shares of which being largely backed by bitcoins, then unloading part of the stake he held in his company is effectively the same as selling a portion of those bitcoins (which he couldn't sell as a private person himself anyway). It's not a hard concept to grasp.

You liked Costa vs Strickland fight? I personally dont. There were better fights in the card. In their fights I saw that Strickland mostly threw jabs and front kick (leg jab lol). And only in last round fighters switched on fighting mode. For me it was a boring UD by Strickland. In fact, wtf is with Costa? He used to be a brutal 1 round finisher, pumped beast that attacks from very start. Now his fights are long lasting fights, decision>decision>decision...

I'm not saying it was the best fight, but it was decent. I get that some people want to see high-intensity brawls, but this is also a sport, not only a show business, so the primary goal for fighters is to win. And both needed the win. Costa's team knew that going for a brawl will benefit Strickland, so had to come up with a different strategy. The plan wasn't bad but id didn't work.

As for Costa going to the distance more often, it's a general tendency that the higher the level of competition, the harder it is to get a finish. Plus, the more there is at stake, the less risk the fighters are willing to take.

What bothers me is the judge that scored 49-46 in favor of Costa. I mean if you watched the whole fight, you will see that Strickland have the control almost the whole fight. Maybe there are times, but most of the time, Strickland is the one that is landing some huge punches so I wonder who that judge is, and whoever that judge is, I hope that they will not get him anymore because he's a bit bias on that one. After the match, I really thought that it would be a Unanimous decision in favor of Strickland, but I just surprised that it ended up as a Split Decision.

I strongly suspected that the judge in question (Dave Tirelli) simply confused the sides of the scoring sheet and was scoring it the wrong way around. But Strickland without a doubt won the last round and he correctly gave it to him, so I don't know.
