but because Alex Pereira was training with Glover Texeira so for sure his takedown defense could get him far and beyond

That might be a bit of a trap for Pereira. Everyone assumes he's superior to Jiri in a stand up, but if most of his training camp is focused on takedown defence and improving his ground game, he might neglect the striking part and could get out-striked by Jiri. And it's not like Prochazka is lacking in the striking department, if Pereira in the top form is better than him, it's only by a small margin.
But yeah, anything is possible in this fight. Who knows, maybe Alex will be the one looking for a takedown, as he did in the first fight against Adesanya.
742  Bitcoin / Press / [2023-11-08] Motley Fool - This 1 Catalyst Could Send Bitcoin Soaring Back to... on: November 08, 2023, 11:21:44 PM
Not really a mainstream press, but quite an interesting read from a few days ago.
If I'm not mistaken, The Motley Fool were strongly anti-Bitcoin in its earlier days (unless I'm confusing them with some other news portal), so it's good to see the shift in sentiment.

This 1 Catalyst Could Send Bitcoin Soaring Back to Its All-Time High of $69,000

https://www.fool.com/investing/2023/11/08/this-1-catalyst-could-send-bitcoin-soaring/

Quote

Institutional investors are suddenly very bullish on Bitcoin, and this change in sentiment could send Bitcoin soaring even higher into 2024.
There's a good reason why Bitcoin (BTC 1.00%) has earned a reputation as a tremendously volatile asset. It typically moves in dramatic boom-and-bust cycles, sometimes without any apparent rhyme or reason. After a huge "bust" year in 2022, when it lost 65% of its value, Bitcoin has entered a new "boom" phase and is up more than 110% for the year.

What makes this year's boom so remarkable is that it is not being driven by retail investors. Instead, the driving catalyst for this year's rally appears to be large institutional investors, many of whom are embracing Bitcoin for the first time. And that is leading to some tremendously bullish predictions about where Bitcoin could be headed next, including a potential rally back to its all-time high of $69,000.
743  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: November 08, 2023, 11:12:24 PM
Yep, i got the point. In general, I initially understood this, but this does not mean that I agree with it so wanted to discuss it. For me this is illogical and opens up scope for manipulation. It would be strange if in football the score in the first half was 3-0 and the score in the second half was 0-1 and the final score was the same, but in boxing this is possible. And I also know that all judges interpret body blows differently, not all consider them to be “real” blows.

Yes, there's a lot of room for manipulation and we've seen some outrageous decisions in the past, but this system is still best than any other.
As for boxing and football, they are hardly comparable, as I mentioned before, landing a punch just for the sake of it should not be the goal. Punches must be effective and cause damage.

Recent news about Ngannou, apparently he rejected an offer to fight Anthony Joshua in December and would rather sit out and wait for a rematch with Fury. I was surprised at first but I kind of understand that. Fury is very likely to accept the rematch after fighting Usyk, and it's guaranteed to be a big money fight (especially if Fury manages to win with Usyk and unify the belts). But if Ngannou was to accept Joshua fight (likely for much less money) and if he was dominated or KOed, the chances of rematch with Fury would get much slimmer.

I'm late to respond this but even tho AI is good when play a certain game but they didn't know card from the dealer card right?

Is stil 50.50 or I am Missing something here?

Poker is a game of skill and is not based on pure lack. It's not like you go all-in before the hands are dealt, if you have a weak hand, you can just fold and wait for the next one. If it was a 50/50 game, we wouldn't need cards at all, they could be replaced by a coin.
So when AI (or a human player) is "good" in Poker, it means it makes more money than it loses. So not only would the AI be able to chose a proper strategy, i.e. knowing when to call/fold/or raise, but it could be much better at analysing human players' style (especially when historical games' data is available) then people.
745  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Would you Like Your Pension Paid in Bitcoin? on: November 07, 2023, 06:27:11 PM
That's a pretty poor return, it yielded you something between 2.5%-3% a year on average, most likely way below the inflation rate.
But it's not like you had a fortune there anyway. You might want to look around and see if you have any option to choose how your pension funds are invested. If not, you could just transfer your money to a different pension. Who knows, maybe when Bitcoin spot ETFs are approved, it will be possible to invest your retirement funds in them.

Paying your contributions directly to your wallet, whether bitcoins or fiat, would be defying the purpose of employee pension schemes. It would be just an equivalent of you getting a small rise and being responsible for your own retirement.
746  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: November 07, 2023, 06:14:43 PM
Never seen someone got 7 points for a round. It must be completely punching bag or a guy whos corner is about to throw a towel. Btw, if you remember Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder first fight, Tyson was knocked down in last round also, and judges also scored that as 8-10. So 8-10 is a correct judgement for this fight. But dont try to find much login in boxing scoring, as this is one of most corrupted sports Cheesy

A round would be scored 10-8 if there is one knock-down and 10-7 if there are 2 knockdowns, so it's not that uncommon. I'm not sure if it can be scored lower than 7. Usually the fight would be ended after a 3rd knockdown in the same round, but maybe if there's a foul, for which the point is deducted. I've no idea what's the lowest it could go.

Boxing scoring rules are fairly logical but whether referees are using them as they should, is a completely different story.
747  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: November 07, 2023, 05:59:53 PM
Imho Pereira just land heavier strikes then Jiri and it will be enough to win. I really doubt Jiri gonna have an advantage on the ground, because that is not just his field. It will be pure kickboxing vs muay thai, where reach and power of Pereira would do all the work. Pereira won Polish power, and he had better wrestling than Jiri. Also Jiri is less powerfull than Blachowicz. Plus Jiri would be cautious because of operatuon he had.

I think that's how it will likely go down. Prochazka will probably try his luck and attempt to out-strike Pereira, if that fails, he'll have no choice but to attempt to take it to the ground. It won't be easy though. Pereira's base sport might be kickboxing, but he spent last few years on mastering takedown defence, so won't be as vulnerable as many may think.
I'm not sure if Pereira's fight against Blachowicz is good indication of anything. I have a lot of sympathy to Jan (he's my compatriot) but he's way past his prime. He's cardio is lacking and it affects his entre game. Prochazka is in his prime years and still has that drive and right mentality, whereas Pereira' main goal is likely to earn as much as possible before retiring in 2-3 years.
It's going to be an interesting one for sure.

Dana should have just stripped Jones of his belt and let the two fight for it to make this event bigger.

They are fighting for the interim belt though.
748  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fund for Bitcoin promotion on: November 07, 2023, 05:44:54 PM
In a sense, this forum actually fits your criteria, the forum's got donators that help keep the lights on for the forum and many other things although this forum isn't technically an advertisement group, it stands as a pillar for the bitcoin movement especially since this was founded by Satoshi the bitcoin creator himself.

Nah, the purpose of this forum is not to promote Bitcoin to "the masses" but to provide a space where Bitcoin-related topics can be discussed freely. So I don't think that's what OP had in mind.
As for the donations, the forum raised quite a lot of them in the early days and have reserves that will last for years. The minimum donations for the "VIP" and "donator" badges have not been updated to reflect the current price and stay at 50btc and 10btc respectively. Obviously nobody will ever pay that much. The forum also suspended advertising (link here), so I think the only current revenue are small donations from the "copper" members.

The government will be forced to take care of us less we die of starvation, and when we die from starvation, no one's going to spend the money that they are trying to make for themselves, meaning these rich people will cease to be rich.

Lol, what? You didn't think that through did you.
Give me money so I can give some of that to you so you can get rich  Grin

On a serious note, why are so many people confident that "the elites" will be taking care of the masses if the masses are not only no longer needed, but pose a threat of rebellion etc.
750  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fund for Bitcoin promotion on: November 06, 2023, 05:51:03 PM
Is there some group which collects funds for Bitcoin promotion? If some group like this can create advertisements for Bitcoin, more people can become aware. Such mediums should be targeted which have reach on audience that is still not familiar with crypto.
We had something like that in the past, it was called the Bitcoin Foundation:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=113400.0
https://www.bitcoinfoundation.org/

I'm actually surprised the website (and the foundation?) is still alive.
I remember there being some controversies around it, including unusually high salary of the foundation's secretary and some other ones.

As much as there was some point of having such organisation at the very begining of Bitcoin, when there was a lot of uncertainty etc, I don't think we need anything of that sort anymore as we already reached mainstream. It would also create a false idea that there is some form of Bitcoin's central entity that could be confusing to people who are new to Bitcoin.

What we would actually need is a bunch of professional lobbyist in the US (we already had those too) to make sure no regulations harmful to crypto are passed.

What can I say it wasn't doing anything to Derrick Lewis at all so I guess the neck of Derrick Lewis was made of Steel or Jailton Almeida is not really that strong and after this fight how do I really wish Derrick Lewis would do anything when he was in the ground but Derrick Lewis was just sleeping in there and for sure was pretty much relaxing for sure Jailton Almeida should learn how to punch while he was riding Derrick Lewis, but he doesn't do a thing,

And yeah the Prelims indeed was the place where Jailton Almeida would surely get, after this fight for sure he is not ready for a Sergei Pavlovich or a Tom Aspinal fight, because he will not win that fight for sure I was really fallen asleep watching this fight,

You have to give Almeida some credit though. He was fighting a dangerous striker with proven KO power, it would be stupid of him to stand up and exchange. He did what he had to do to win the fight and move up in the ranks. He's focus was on winning and not on the entertainment.
Yeah, there's no chance he'll be fighting for the belt in his next fight. He'll most likely have to face someone from the middle of the top 10 first, maybe Blaydes or Volkov, and if he passes the test, he could be fighting for the title then.
752  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can Chat GTP destroy poker on-line gambling??? on: November 06, 2023, 05:11:50 PM
Reading another post, it crossed my mind that AIs and particularly ChatGPT could potentially be trained with a large samples of games played by poker champions and then put it to auto-play with amateur on-line players. If this is successful, it could mean the end of human on-line poker playing except perhaps for the world masters and the like. Has anyone tried? Would it be possible??

This has been a problem long before ChatGPT was released. You don't really need an AI to develop an effective poker bot, although equipping such bot with an AI features could mean that it would be "learning" and getting better on its own.
It's funny how many people in this thread are thinking that it'll never be possible to defeat top human poker players when it already happened few years ago. First it was just a fixed limit games, but then bots got better and dominated no-limit tables as well.
Wherever there's a game in which the decision of moves is based on logic and analytics, the machines will be better at it. Period. It's just a matter of a proper programming.
753  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: November 06, 2023, 04:59:46 PM
So it turns out that if one boxer threw 100 punches and the other zero, but was able to stay on his feet, then the score will only be 10-9 in favor of the first boxer?

Depends. As far as I know a round could be scored 10-8 even if there was no knock-down, if one of the fighters was totally dominating and dealing a lot of damage and if it was a one-sided performance and/or the other fighter was clearly saved by the bell from getting KOed.
Looking only at the number of punches landed could turn boxing into some bizzare match when boxers are focussed on touching the opponent with large volume of zero-power punches just so they could "land" it.
We have this score systems for a reason, even if sometimes it seems unfair.
754  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: November 06, 2023, 04:44:40 PM
I have a feeling Jiri Prochazka is gonna get caught and cracked in the chin then get starched.  Dunno...  It's just from Prochazka's matches he leaves himself wide open.

Choosing the strategy for this fight won't be easy for Jiri. He himself prefers striking, but will be facing someone who's (on paper) better than him in at it. I don't expect he will try to move the fight to the ground. Maybe he'll be attempting some takedowns in an effort to score some points and win rounds. But if the samurai mentality kicks in, we may see a real slug fest.
This fight has really good entertainment potential.

As for Aspinall, I have him to win but if he keeps getting his chin high up Pav could put him to sleep too.  Both these underdogs are live.

With all the sympathy for Pavlovich, I think it'll be an easy win for Aspinall. He's just technically better, faster and more determined. But heavyweight is the most unpredictable.
755  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: November 04, 2023, 11:30:25 PM
But if Ngannou wanted to proved himself, he just have to wait, for sure there are boxers that is willing to fight him, not just those in the top, but maybe in the top 5-10 because it's a win-win situation, they will get to test how good Francis really is, and obviously the money that they are going to get fighting one of the most hype boxers right now.

It's a tricky situation for Francis though. I'm not sure if it's at all possible for him to fight official boxing fights with the top boxers, or would he need any sort of boxing licence and have to work his way up from the bottom. Not sure if fighting more exhibition fights with fighters of a much lower calibre than Tyson Fury would give Francis a decent payout. Given his age, he doesn't have much time to waste and probably will have only a few more fights before retirement. A rematch with Fury would definitely make sense (and maybe going back to MMA after that), but Fury is after Usyk now.
756  Economy / Economics / Re: AI will put an end to work, says Elon Musk on: November 04, 2023, 11:18:21 PM
(...) I have always believed that regardless of how sophisticated these AI tools become, they will never replace humans. (...)

This belief is completely unreasonable and nothing but wishful thinking. There have been plenty of discussions about technological unemployment (even on this forum) and the only argument for this seems to be that if something didn't happen in the past - it won't happen in the future, which is just silly, as unprecedented things (smaller or bigger) are happening on an everyday basis.
Other way of shrugging off the problem is saying that if human work is replaced by "robots", then people will build an alternative economy. This concept is also flawed and would be nothing more than an uglier form of proposed AI regulations.

ps. Elon Musk is not the only one saying that. In fact, I don't think there's a single, serious expert/scientist from the relevant field, that would think that human labour is irreplaceable.
757  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you manage your finances and family if your income is low range? on: November 04, 2023, 11:05:47 PM
If your income is very low for managing your family, firstly, discuss the situation with your family and let's see what they can help you with.
Nah, if you agreed to be a primary (or sole) provider and your wife to take care of the home and children, then putting the burden of making money also on them should be the last resort.

identify your liabilities and get rid of them; if there is any chance they will become assets, then make them
What do you mean by this? Could you name a few examples of when liabilities can be turned into assets?

Women are gifted with the skills of home management indeed and, just like the men are blessed with the hustling and providing for the home spirit
Sadly this is no longer true for the average "Western" woman who would be offended by the expectation of them providing for the "home spirit".
758  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: November 04, 2023, 10:41:28 PM
Even though he has a lot of controversy about his personality, in the UFC Jones is a real monster. Seriously, I'm still curious what would happen if Jon Jones met Ngannou? That would be one hell of a fight!

I remember Dana White hinting in some of the interviews he gave, after Ngannou won the belt, that Jon Jones was afraid of facing Francis. I don't think that was true though, it was probably just Dana's frustration with Jon stalling and not wanting to agree to any fight.

And what if Ngannou gets KO'd or got man handled by Tyson Fury?  What would that make the UFC look?

Given that Fury is a dominating and undefeated champion, it probably wouldn't make UFC look that bad, definitely not as bad as Jake Paul beating up former top UFC fighters. But good point.
759  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: November 04, 2023, 10:23:06 PM
The days of Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield were memorable but are resigned to the history books.

True, but I think it was way easier to elevate boxers to high-level celebrity status (i.e. recognisable by millions worldwide) in the past than it is now. Simply because we had a television as a main source of information and all news were reporting on the main boxing events. Nowadays sources of information are decentralised, and often times algorithms on social media would lock people in information bubbles, so any up-and-coming fighters struggle to reach a wider audience, outside of die-hard boxing fans. This means we might never see another "golden era" of boxing similar to what we've had in the past.
760  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Russia To Ban Cryptocurrencies on: November 03, 2023, 10:14:57 PM
There is an industrial boom in Russia right now, factories are working in 3 shifts, just like in wartime. Trains with goods go to Russia from the south and east, and this works without cryptocurrencies. Russia has raw materials, energy, technology, so no sanctions will be effective.

Yeah, I remember, I think it was Biden, saying that disconnecting Russia from the Swift system was a "nuclear option" and they were hesitant to use it as it seems to harsh. When they've done it eventually it turned out not to be too effective at all.
I'm not up to date with all the EU restrictions, I know a few European countries opened bank accounts with Russian banks to be able to continue to trade, but I've no idea how that panned out.

As for citizens, then indeed, if you buy goods with cryptocurrency, then this is a violation of the law. But there are no prohibitions on buying and selling cryptocurrencies. That’s why I exchange cryptocurrencies for money and then buy goods and do not break any laws.

According to that article, private individuals are also not allowed to mine. But good to hear that people can still use exchanges freely. It's not all that bad then.

ps. I didn't realise you are Russian. Thanks for the first-hand info.
