1  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: HUGE HIDDEN STORY - FOR MARCH 29 on: April 03, 2019, 09:24:07 PM
Hes just making stuff up to try and sell things on his website.
2  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 1600 S9 capacity mining container. Completely turnkey on: March 29, 2019, 10:24:16 PM
Since the S9 is an end of life product, selling a container designed for them might not be the best way to go.

How configurable is this container? No current generation miner has a footprint the size of an S9 so it would have to be completely adjustable inside.

Pictures would be nice.
3  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain introduces the Antminer S17 Pro, Antminer S17, and the Antminer T17 on: March 29, 2019, 09:48:47 PM
Hmm, so If specs are true. S15 and T15 buyers are fucked up again. Huge different on same 7nm chip. I hope Bitmain will release some good firmware for S15/T15 which will increase performance.

I mean I remember I bought my 2015 Corvette...and every year since then Chevy has had the gall to produce a newer one. I hope i get an ECU patch that gives me free upgrades too!

P.S. The S17 uses a different chip than the S15

S15 = BM1391
S17 = BM1397

Direct blog quote from Bitmain:

Quote from: Bitmain
The new BM1397 chip requires lower power and can offer an energy consumption to computing ratio as low as 30J/TH. This is a 28.6 percent improvement in power efficiency in comparison with Bitmain’s previous 7nm chip, the BM1391.
4  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A10 series announced on: March 29, 2019, 09:36:20 PM
I wish they didn't go with integrated PSUs. I don't trust anything other than server PSUs to deliver that amount of power without being electrical and fire hazards.

I dont know about the new Avalons but many of the new units including Bitmains use 20v internal rails, 12v PSUs just wouldnt power the miner properly. Its not that they are trying to force us into their PSUs, they are just a requirement for the unit to function.
5  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S9 Hashboard error: 2 boards=0 chip, 1 board=33 chips on: March 29, 2019, 05:21:41 PM
again, another newbie , asks a question, gets a few answers , then disappear,  never bother report back the result so others can make use of it.

That is because they didnt get the answer they wanted...happens all the time. Well either that or they argue their position against all logic.
6  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: APW3++ in 110V plug? on: March 29, 2019, 05:20:01 PM
All you guys ignoring all sense and advice PLEASE PLEASE post about when you blow your PSU up or melt wires in your house so we can all point and laugh.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: APW7 and Z11 on: March 22, 2019, 09:19:49 PM
You are missing the fact that all mining power supplies in this space expect 220v

You really should look into installing some220 if you plan on mining. 110v just isnt the way to go.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Tesla PowerWall 2 + 50 RTX 2080Ti GPUs on: March 20, 2019, 11:05:02 PM
It really amazes me how little people understand about solar. In almost every case, solar is a supplemental energy source, as you can only generate useful power for maybe 10h a day if you are in a sunny desert.

Good luck with this fools errand!

9  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AvalonMiner 921 released - 20 TH/s @ 1800W on: March 20, 2019, 10:54:42 PM
Hi I want to find the maximum hash rate, not taking into account power consumption/

The very first post states the speed of the unit....

Specs:
Avalon A921
20TH/s -5% ~+10%
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1600 series Nvidia GPUs are significantly better than everything else. on: March 20, 2019, 06:19:29 PM
So according to my findings, no, 1600 series Nvidia GPUs are not significantly better than everything else.

And that is not a claim I ever made. I was pointing out that lunos advice and outlook on things was very one sided to his situation and when you take into account the price of the cards the 1660Ti is a much better choice as a way to get into mining without breaking the bank. I was referring to the price/performance ratio and the payback times involved. No matter what algo you pick, the payback on the 2080 makes it a horrible choice for mining and I stand by that statement.

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 'Game-Changing' Endothermic Mining Rigs Unveiled By Luxembourg Startup on: March 19, 2019, 10:47:06 PM
This is a giant stadium sized pile of BS.

This is one of those that is so obvious you dont even need to view their website to know its a lie.

A single chip that can do all those algos and magically destroy anything on the market with insane efficiency.

I remember someone last year mentioning this endothermic garbage, this miner is not rewriting the laws of physics. Its just a scammer with some paid press releases to try and look legit when it is not even close to being something real.

electricity is converted to heat, thats how it works. If its not creating heat, where is the energy going?

Also if more proof is needed...here is the supposed CEO's picture that just happens to be a stock photo on every major repository....

Seen the grin hashrate for 1660 ti. Pretty pathetic at 3.3 g/s. I assume at 90 watts at best

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5113961.0

My 2080 rtx does 7.4 g/s and 150 watts.

Cuckaroo29 is a GPU focused algo specifically designed to be phased out by next year in favor of the ASIC focused Cukaroo31 algo so if you are looking long term this is not the algo to be focusing on.

Quote
That’s why Grin introduced two proof-of-work algorithms. The primary one is designed to be ASIC friendly and the secondary one ASIC resistant. At launch, the secondary one PoW will represent approximately 90% of the blocks found while the primary one will be roughly 10%. This percentage will evolve such that in two years 100% of the blocks are mined with the primary PoW, thus encouraging ASICs manufacturers to develop a machine for the primary algorithm.

Zcoin is not a shitcoin it's the number #3 coin by market cap for best masternodes and it's in the first page of the top 100 coins.

If I wanted the best eth miner I would get a Vega vii. Not 1660 ti.

And it's true 2080 rtx sucks at eth. It has an achiles heel. But it rocks all other algos like a boss.

Lol its number 96 out of 100 on coinmarketcap with a horrible market volume that makes it the very definition of a shitcoin. I mean it was popular a lil over a year ago before settling down into the basement with all the other dying coins.

Again none of that addresses your "two steps ahead" philosophy or your claim its so much more efficient even at 2.5 times+ the cost.

You seem to have a hard on for new overpriced cards saying you would buy the Vega VII as well. Not sure if you followed mining after the release of the original Vega but the drivers are shit and it will take months and months and months before people bother adding support for it in their miners. Its yet another poor purchase choice in the current market.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1600 series Nvidia GPUs are significantly better than everything else. on: March 19, 2019, 04:14:54 PM
Maths are hard for some people i guess

1660Ti = $299 MSRP

RTX 2080 = $799 MSRP

If you can find the 2080 on a 1 off low price, you will be able to do the same thing for the 1660 once its a month or two old. You are cherry picking your data to prove your point even though you are standing on very shaky ground. You even had to single out one particular algo and a random useless shitcoin to prove your point.

Lets look at something more popular...say ETH hash rates.

1660Ti = 29.5MH @ 90w (Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/gpumining/comments/avyaq1/gtx_1660_ti_mining_performance/ )
2080   = 42.3MH @ 168w (Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/gpumining/comments/9ixng5/rtx_2080_mining_hashrateperformance/ )

So on the most popular algo you can get a pair of 1660s doing 59mh @ 180w or a single 2080 doing 42.3mh @ 168w....

PHi2

1660Ti = 9.2mh @ 90w
2080   =  9.97mh @ 168w

The 1660 dominates here....

x16r

1660TI = 17.8mh @ 90w
2080    = 30mh @ 168w

Close enough to be nearly identical....

See when you cherry pick results its easy to make claims that your way is the best. The unfortunate side effect is someone might listen to your bs and make a poor decision after reading this because they dont know how to do proper research on their own.

15  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Release new 7NM Chip and Antminer S17 & T17 on: March 19, 2019, 03:33:07 PM
I am sure they are mining with it already. I never said it was shipping or being sold.

Of course they are, its called product testing....
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1600 series Nvidia GPUs are significantly better than everything else. on: March 18, 2019, 06:47:38 PM
2080 rtx is the new king. I don't touch low class stuff like the 1660 ti. Compare mining specs on grin.

If you are interested in a multi year payback time sure.

You would have to be an absolute fool to spend money on RTX cards for mining at this point....
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: black screen when using remote desktop without monitor on: March 18, 2019, 06:43:17 PM
I don't use any 3rd party software to remote the miner. I think there is a problem with the software that you use and maybe there is something blocking your connection to your miner.

Here try to follow this https://www.groovypost.com/howto/setup-use-remote-desktop-windows-10/

If you had Windows 10 Home edition this will not work and you need to use a third party tool for this.

Im wondering if your VNC service is just trying to attach to the wrong card
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FutureBit Project Apollo: Bringing ASIC Mining Back to the Home Miner! on: March 18, 2019, 06:37:55 PM
At 4 cent power cost my numbers show this will take 65 months just to pay itself off.

I am beyond confused here....for the same price you can buy 3 used L3+ units and make 13x the monthly profit and pay the units off in ~4 months

Is there some secret way of making a profit or are people willing to throw away money just to have a shiny on their desk? Its not like Litecoin is some innovative blockchain thats going to explode in the future, its basically on life support as a coin already...
19  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: March 18, 2019, 06:03:03 PM
Dissipate 3.3KW in a single tube is insane.
This miner will be loud beyond reason.

Yes with the 140mm fans it is very loud....but again this is an industrial miner and sound really doesnt matter if they are in the proper settings.

My current M10S test mule has a 118 day uptime right now and has not really had any issues to speak of. Whether the ambient temp is 3f or 60f, it seems to regulate heat well so far with all cards sitting between 74-77c at all times.

I think my favorite part of this unit is the error and event log.

https://pasteboard.co/I61tOWd.png

You can even see in the log the machine does basic troubleshooting on its own, aka restarting cgminer as needed.
20  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: March 18, 2019, 05:52:48 PM
Hi there, you should post this in the Miner Support section so that you can get the help you need.

P.S. your kernel log looks alright other than some temperature issues, if you are having discarded shares its probably your pool and not your miner with issues.

When you create a new thread please post a miner status picture while its hashing
