1  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Second Phase – Cleaning on: May 27, 2019, 05:44:23 PM
This topic is not about merit.

Since mukhang successful naman na tayo sa ating first phase which is magkaroon ng new merit source and to have more quality posters here sa ating local board. cabalism13 is our new local merit source, I think we still need another source at sa nakikita ko ang pwede is si crwth, hope na ma-approve din naman siya.

Para naman sa ating second phase, I present to you mga fellow Filipinos "Reporting or cleaning our local board/bitcointalk"

Meron tayong Guides:
English Version: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4519248
Filipino Version: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4857368

Which has corresponding names na unhandled, bad, and good.

Example image below:

Sa nakikita niyo sa image sample ko, naging good na siya for the third time, ito yung first time image and discussed on Meta ---> Re: [Competition] Report spammers and pseudo-goodposters, ayun sa global moderator na nakausap ko, dapat daw kausapin ko or find out who are the moderators ang naghandled nyan at mukhang obvious naman na copy and paste lang siya bakit naging bad? You can view the sample bad reporting sa link above.

I’m suffering from financial problem as like you guys, I’m also human. I’m depress, but, life has to move on. It is not just about me and I never think na mas mataas ako sa mga tao dito sa forum, you haven’t seen me na nag-brag or nag-celebrate na meron ako maraming merits or ito reporting ko mas madami sa inyo.

Let us start our second phase.
2  Other / Meta / @Moderators, kindly move back to Beginners & Help on: April 11, 2019, 10:54:50 AM
Kindly move back this topic Newbies should focus more on the knowledge of the crypto space to Beginners & Help, please.

I reported the below post as [DELETE] ENGLISH ZONE and while reporting two more repeated replies that we read every day, I noticed it is now on Bitcoin Forum > Local > Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian).

Just seen this post My account has been banned.... and noticed that plagiarism has now 30days and signature banned for 2 years duration (not sure if this is newly implemented).

Is this only applicable to current plagiarism case? What about users who are banned more than 30days?
Will this help our forum on addressing plagiarism case (talking about newbies and old shitposters copy and paste case)?

6  Economy / Scam Accusations / Be Aware of those Dodgy Exchanges Support telegram account. on: February 18, 2019, 02:50:52 PM
This just happened to me on telegram.

Exchange support asking for deposit to earn bonus. This is to inform all to be vigilant, specially those exchanges support account on telegram.

Upon knowing such dodgy scheme, I immediately message Kajetan Mackowiak (Coindeal.com Founder) to confirm if the said account is one of their employee.

Scammers used fake exchange support telegram account as they know that people trust them on handling issues with regards to exchanges. Without awareness, exchange users can easily be manipulated by fake exchange support account. Instructing them to do something is easy, users want their problems to be solved immediately, so, they will do anything as instructed.

Be aware – I am vigilant.
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Meet Than and Then on: February 11, 2019, 03:40:27 PM
Sorry, not a then DT1 member or greater than new DT1 member(s) topic.

I have noticed some members who actually have some enough merits misusing than and then. They used then when in fact they meant than when opening a topic or replying to a topic. I’m not a major in English professor and not my native language, but, I hope this topic will help newbies and other members to make some improvement regarding these two commonly confused words, especially when instructing or opening a topic that is worth reading.

Searched bitcointalk about this kind of topic, didn't find any. If there are already topic like this, kindly link it here to be added.

Than and then

There's nothing more embarrassing then correcting someone's language only to realize that your correction contains its own error.

Did you see it? That harmless little four-letter word then. It should have been than. That’s one example when using than and then.

Then has two meanings.

1.  Then usually refers to time, meaning "at that time."
Example of then meaning "at that time"

2.  Then can also be used as a transition to mean "in that case" or "therefore."
Example of then meaning "in that case" or "therefore"

Than is used only when comparing items.  (Then is never used in comparisons.)
Examples of than used to compare items

•   Expect it to take a little longer than usual for Electrum to be ready. (Correct)
•   Expect it to take a little longer then usual for Electrum to be ready. (Wrong)
•   I don't think it will be less than hundred. (Correct)
•   I don't think it will be less then hundred. (Wrong)
•   I would rather eat than sleep. (Correct)
•   I would rather eat then sleep. (Wrong)

So when did this pair get so confusing? Turns out they've always been that way. Linguistically speaking, they're identical twins. In Middle English, they were the same word; both spellings were used for all the various meanings. It's been a few hundred years, however, since English has treated them as distinct, which means we have to too. We could go back to Middle English, but we think that would be harder then—um, that is, harder than—mastering these.

TIPS:

Apart from thinking about the meanings of than and then, another way to get the spelling right is to remember that then is like when: both are spelled with an ‘e’ and both are used to talk about time (which ends with an ‘e’).

Than is used to make comparisons. Both than and comparison have a letter “A” in them.

Summary

These two words are very close in their appearance, but than vs. then have very different uses.

Then is commonly used to express a sense of time or what comes next or used to be.

Than is used to form comparisons between two things.

8  Local / Pilipinas / Paano gumagana ang isang double spend 51% attack? Paliwanag at mga halimbawa. on: September 27, 2018, 09:01:08 AM

Quote
Monacoin, bitcoin gold, zencash, verge and now, litecoin cash.
https://www.coindesk.com/blockchains-feared-51-attack-now-becoming-regular/

9  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / [Filipino Guide] Ang Bitcointalk Merit System on: June 25, 2018, 08:33:27 PM

Activity
Paano kinakalkula ang aktibidad ng forum?
Kinakalkula ang aktibidad sa pamamagitan nang formula:
Code:
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Paano mag-aplay bilang Merit Source

1.   Maging isang established na miyembro.

•   Top-merited topics, all-time.

•   Top-merited replies, all-time.

•   Top-merited users, recent merit.

•   Top-merited users, all-time.

•   Most generous recent merit senders.

•   Most generous merit senders, all time.

Additional tools

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I receive merit?

https://www.cryptopia.co.nz at https://www.cryptopía.co.nz

Bitcoin known as anonymity, but there are a lot to talk about being anonymous, a harmless and safe technique of creating & receiving payments without compromising your identity and your activities (lawful, illegal &/or illicit). We believe that bitcoin is anonymous, but if you check back in history like the "Silk Road" and latest articles about its anonymity, you tend to question things surrounding its “anonymity”.
Some articles that are worthy of reading:

https://theintercept.com/2018/03/20/the-nsa-worked-to-track-down-bitcoin-users-snowden-documents-reveal/

“Though the documents leaked by Snowden do not address whether the NSA aided the FBI’s Silk Road investigation, they show the agency working to unmask bitcoin users about six months before Ulbricht was arrested, and that it had worked to monitor Liberty Reserve around the same time. The source of the bitcoin and Liberty Reserve monitoring, MONKEYROCKET, is governed by an overseas surveillance authority known as Executive Order 12333, the language of which is believed to give U.S. law enforcement agencies wide latitude to use the intelligence when investigating U.S. citizens.”

https://rroyselaw.com/technology-transactions/cryptocurrency/time-to-hide-your-bitcoin-wallet-how-the-irs-is-tracking-your-virtual-currency/

https://www.techspot.com/news/74246-amazon-granted-patent-tracking-bitcoin-transactions-selling-data.html

https://www.ccn.com/researchers-unmask-anonymous-tor-users-tracking-bitcoin-transactions/

https://news.bitcoin.com/irs-crackdown-tracking-bitcoiners-with-chainalysis/

"The IRS will no longer target a wide-range of Coinbase users via its information request, which it filed on Coinbase back in March. Instead, the agency made concessions to seek account data of individuals who transacted — meaning they bought, sold, sent, or received — $20,000 worth of bitcoin in any transaction type."

Actual contract between the IRS and Chainalysis: https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/3935924-IRS-Chainalysis-Contract.html

As specified, that all bitcoin sales & purchased amounting to $20,000 or above, are reported to the government and all details involve are shared.

The ownership of Bitcoin is not actually the problem here, spending them is. Buying for products/goods, have transported or exchange them, we can easily be track & identify. Let's say these are true (for discussion purposes) & bitcoin is less anonymous, which is different from we believe in. How can we decline the chances of being recognize as holder & increase our security? Sample, I have 150BTC which is equivalent to $1.2M as of the moment & I would love to convert it to fiat money, what are the methods I can do to be safe and anonymous? I think that exchanges/mixing will not answer these. If I sold it to a person via hard wallet, with large BTC in it, it will not help. When the FBI or any government institution seizes that person, he/she will just cooperate and tell the details of your transactions: the place of transactions, security cameras, describing your face, and parking lot cameras can captured your license plate or any form that is relevant to capture your identity.

Your thoughts on protecting your anonymity using bitcoin?

Pang-apat[#4]:Hal Finney’s post.

Pang-lima[#5]:Two pizzas post

The Silk Road seized and the downfall of Mt.Gox

Silk Road is the first modern darknet market. Derived from a historical network of trade routes, which started during the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD) between Europe, India, China, and countries on the Afro-Eurasian landmass. Started in February 2011, a booming online marketplace, and founded by Ross Ulbricht, a darknet market operator, known alias “Dread Pirate Roberts”. Ross as some article say American former drug trafficker, some people say he is a visionary who wants anonymity, maximize political freedom and independence, emphasizing freedom of choice, voluntary association, and individual judgment; they believe in every individual rights. He also has some business failures before Silk Road.

It produced millions of dollars in revenue, secret was simple: ensuring the anonymity of its buyers and sellers. You can access it through Tor, software that renders anonymous on the internet and as a tool for uncensored communication to Internet users. Primarily, buyers could register free, but there were a limited number of new seller accounts available; new sellers had to purchase an account thru an auction. Later, a fixed fee for each new seller account to mitigate the possibility of malicious individuals distributing tainted goods, the site had 10,000 products for sale by vendors[read].

Bitcoin is the primary mode of payment, fiat to bitcoin then btc to Silk Road account, if there is a transaction the buyer’s btc will be escrow; when the buyer confirmed the legitimacy of the purchased, seller’s account will be credited. Despite its highly anonymous features, in October 2013 the U.S. Government shut it down. Intersection between the Bitcoin housed on the site, valued at tens of millions of U.S. dollars, and a key crime-fighting tool: the federal asset forfeiture program. As soon as the United States seized Silk Road, it also, by virtue of technological fiat (and, apparently, some clumsiness on the part of Ulbricht), seized the bitcoins housed therein. This included Ulbricht’s staggering personal bitcoin supply (about 150,000 BTC), accumulated through the healthy commission Silk Road took from all sales, as well as all of the bitcoins held by its many users or housed in the aforementioned escrow accounts (about 30,000 BTC). This meant that if a drug-seeking Silk Road user tried accessing the site after the shutdown, he would, to his likely dismay, be redirected to an FBI-generated shutdown notice. In addition, all of the bitcoins he may have stored on Silk Road would also be gone, seized by the government as part of efforts to forfeit all of the bitcoins held in Silk Road accounts. Short discussion by the federal asset forfeiture program[read].

Silk Road Seize lessons: Ross was just clumsy: agreed to be interviewed by Forbes, under the show of the Dread Pirate Roberts, in the summer of 2013, revealing enough of himself to law enforcement to pierce Silk Road’s veil. As Michael Neilsen suggests, the claim that Bitcoin can be used anonymously—the claim that drove the very formation of Silk Road and other marketplaces that specialize in illegal goods—is a myth. “The block chain is public,” Neilsen argues, and “although Bitcoin addresses aren’t immediately associated with real-world identities, computer scientists have made a great deal of progress figuring out how to de-anonymize ‘anonymous’ social networks.

If FBI agents can trace the flow of the Silk Road bitcoins—or, simpler still, exploit civil forfeiture to make such tracing unnecessary—proponents of Bitcoin (particularly those who seek to use Bitcoin to facilitate criminal activity) will be forced to adjust accordingly. By virtue of the blockchain, the backbone of the Bitcoin ecosystem, Bitcoin may never be as anonymous or untraceable as it purports to be. Ironically, as Neilsen aptly suggests, Bitcoin is “perhaps the most open and transparent financial instrument the world has ever seen.” The Silk Road episode stands as evidence that existing legal structures such as asset forfeiture currently have the power to contain Bitcoin. U.S. Marshalls auction off the bitcoins from the Silk Road forfeiture, we are left to question whether this newfangled crypto-currency is any different, from a legal perspective, from an old fashioned pile of cash.

MtGox downfall.  MtGox was a bitcoin exchange based in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan, as the largest bitcoin intermediary and the world's leading bitcoin exchange. MTGox stands for "Magic: The Gathering Online eXchange” founded by Jed McCaleb, now the most controversial figure in cryptocurrency and hated due to its issue with XRP. The exchange handled millions of dollars’ worth of transactions a day, just like a traditional “forex” trading platform. When BTC is sent from one public key address to another (sender used private key), funds cannot be retrieved unless the receiver physically sends the funds back (using own private key). This feature of Bitcoin is the core of its almost-totally protected transaction system, while MtGox’s exchange system avoided this security feature for the sake of accessibility and speed. This arrangement, called a web wallet, is the similar as Silk Road, meaning the private keys is with MTGox, and the only thing keeping MtGox from stealing the funds was, ironically, the prevention of legal action on the basis of contract law or criminal law. It is considered “the worst of both worlds” since it joint the irreversibility of BTC transactions (once you sent your BTC to MtGox, only MtGox could ever send it back to you) with none of the highly developed regulatory protections of the traditional financial services system. Even though users “owned” the BTC they had sent to their MtGox wallets, their claim to ownership was secured only by a simple contract—the user agreement.

In early 2014 it dramatic collapse. In February 2014, Mt. Gox suspended trading, closed its website and exchange service, and filed for bankruptcy protection from creditors. In April 2014, the company began liquidation proceedings. The disappearance of more than $400 million worth of bitcoin from MtGox, and its subsequent collapse, many Bitcoin users left with no option other than to trust the traditional legal system for relief. Whether the collapse triggered by hacking or mismanagement, its effect on customers is the same: they are unable to retrieve their funds.  Mizuho had been trying to shut down MtGox’s account for months before the collapse, and now that it is theoretically liable for the exchange’s errors, other banks who deal with Bitcoin businesses are proceeding cautiously. Bitcoin’s largest exchange and its customers have become involved in legal actions is clear evidence that the traditional legal system will continue to dominate dispute resolution for Bitcoin users.

Like Silk Road case, it proves that current legal tools like asset forfeiture can be adapted to Bitcoin’s supposedly cutting-edge usage, and MtGox case displays that bankruptcy and class actions can be applied to Bitcoin denominated business disputes.  Some developers are moving forward with systems based on Ricardian contracts (“smart contracts”) and multi-signature cryptography, application of these technologies would be a peer-to-peer exchange.

Bitcoin, in order to continue its challenge to our old financial system, it must cope up with and react to our traditional legal structures; either that or it must progress beyond them. As Bitcoin grows in popularity, so does the law’s interest in being able to reach it just like Silk Road and MT.Gox.

I have done some research regarding bitcoin within my community, and have noticed of many frauds about bitcoin and cryptocurrency. The old “easy money” scheme still catches people’s attention. Lack of information and lack of discipline among community members were the primary problem encountered. The common mindset in terms of bitcoin is “investing without working” you just need to give money to us (so-called traders) to amass your net worth. How bitcoin investment work is not known in the community. Information dissemination of its importance is not properly implemented. Implementation should start with:

Community/General Public. Public should start their research first before joining any bitcoin investments. Awareness on how to invest in bitcoin should reflect to economic, social and political as well as community development.

Educational Leaders. Leadership effectiveness of school curriculum, university administrators/faculties should include the needs and problems of bitcoin. It is high time to guide faculties in scheduling of daily lessons that will help develop student’s knowledge about bitcoin and cryptocurrency.

Teachers/Professors. Thru curricular offerings together with the applications of knowledge and skills achieve in universities professors promote growth and development of the youth for the improvement of cryptocurrency community life. Proper education will surely help us in building cryptocurrency revolution.

Parents. Family is the very foundation of an individual in our community. Most of our members here in bitcointalk are students.  Parents are the ones providing the financial needs of the students. They believe that their children will gain enough knowledge and skills to become useful, productive and responsible citizens in the future, so they give support to school programs to meet their expectations. I am sure universities will have enough funds from parents if they implement bitcoin awareness in their curriculum.

What about your community? Any suggestions? Your views on this issue.

I’m a fan on how to prolong life. I want to live forever, but I know my body cannot, only my name will.  I always believe that someday science will find a way to prolong life and can stop aging (bitcoin did not excess, look at it now). I am doing so much in life, grinding night and day to live a life that I wanted, and thinking it will soon end is somewhat unsatisfying.

News: Scientists keep alive brains of decapitated pigs to prompt ethics debate:

A system developed by a Yale University team is leading to suggestions their work could be developed for humans.

A team at Yale University have experimented on up to 200 pigs' heads, taken from an abattoir roughly four hours after the animals' slaughter, by connecting them to a system called "BrainEx".

Using the system of pumps, heaters and bags of artificial blood, Prof Sestan described how billions of individual cells were found to be healthy and capable of normal activity after circulation was restored to the pigs' brains.

Prof Sestan suggested use of the system, dubbed "brain in a bucket", would probably not be unique to pigs and was likely to work in any species, including primates.

The study is likely to provoke ethical questions, such as whether the work could be developed further to preserve human brains outside a body - an area explored in sci-fi and horror movies.

Prof Sestan said: "People are fascinated. We have to be careful how fascinated."

Currently, those hoping to prolong their life after death have resorted to having their bodies cryogenically frozen, in the hope medical science will be able to bring them back to life and cure their conditions at some point in the future.

"Hypothetically, somebody takes this technology, makes it better, and restores someone's [brain] activity.

"That is restoring a human being. If that person has memory, I would be freaking out completely."

You work hard every day as a Doctor, Professor, Developer, Banker, Trader, Manager, Teacher, etc., but for what. Of course, for our daily needs, have you think about all the things that you have right now. All the hard work will soon go and just stay in these shadows of the earth. How many of you by chance think of living forever?

Not only do many of the super-rich want immortality, but a good number of them are doing something about it. The likes of Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, Larry Ellison, Co-founder of Oracle, and investor Peter Thiel are all putting money into ventures that are focused on extending the human life span.

A multitude of approaches being taken are aiming for immortality…or, at the very least, a much longer and healthier life. There is the idea of merging artificial intelligence with humans to avert death. By transferring your consciousness into an artificial brain, you will continue to live even though your body is worn out. Cryogenics is being seriously considered. Here they freeze your body and, at a minimum, your head until the field of medicine advances enough to bring you back.

Philippines Welcomes Crypto Economic Zone

Just WOW News!
It's more fun in the Philippines.
Welcome Crypto Enthusiast!!!

After hemming and hawing in its strange relationship with cryptocurrencies and the businesses they imply, the Philippine government decided to make room for a set aside economic zone. The scheme is offered in hopes of generating more tax income, employment for its people, and perhaps a dedicated crypto university.

Philippines Allows Crypto Companies to Operate Economic Zone
Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) spokesman Raul Lambinos told Reuters, “We are about to licence 10 platforms for cryptocurrency exchange. They are Japanese, Hong Kong, Malaysians, Koreans. They can go into cryptocurrency mining, initial coin offerings, or they can go into exchange.” Exchanges providing onramps to the nation’s fiat money, on the other hand, are encouraged to launch offshore to avoid running afoul of Philippine law.

Such zones offer advantageous tax regimes in the hope of creating more employment for Filipinos. Early this year, the country legalized such zones for crypto, which appears to be more welcoming to digital assets than other countries in the region.

Local authorities estimate over two years crypto companies will invest more than $1 million, with ten percent of that going toward building a tax base. Ambitious plans also include a possible blockchain-based financial technology university to help feed workers to surrounding businesses in the zone.

Acceptance, however, of an economic zone for crypto is a positive first start for the industry, and might signal a slight change of heart on the government’s end.

20  Other / Serious discussion / North and South Korea War Ended. How it will affect bitcoin? on: April 27, 2018, 04:28:21 PM
Another historical event happened this year 2018. North and South Korea ended its 65 years Korean War. I am curious on how it will affect bitcoin. I read that South Korea accused North Korea for hacking their exchanges from 2013 to 2015. See below filtered important details:

North and South Korea vow to end the Korean War in historic accord:

The leaders of North and South Korea have committed themselves to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and pledged to bring a formal end to the Korean War, 65 years after hostilities ceased.

Then, the two leaders left their officials behind and struck out side by side through the DMZ to a footbridge that was recently repainted the same blue used on the Korean Unification Flag. Unexpectedly, they talked for 30 minutes, without anyone taking notes and with cameras at a distance. The contents of the conversation have not been disclosed.

"Seeing Kim Jong Un live, chatting easily with their president, will no doubt have been jolt to South Koreans and remind them that the North Koreans are the same people in many ways, in language and shared history if not their political or economic structure."

Near the DMZ Thursday, 51 people from the Korean War Veterans Revisit Korea Program had gathered to remember their relatives lost in that conflict and support peace and reunification.

"My father Karle Seydel was killed December 7, 1950 in the Chosun reservoir," Ruth Hebert, who was from San Diego in California, told CNN. His body is believed to be still somewhere inside North Korea.

Hebert said she had spoken with South Koreans who had lost family members in the war and been separated from relatives by the partitioning of the Peninsula.

"We hope and pray that ... this starts to really change," she added. "There's a hope with Japan, with Korea, with the Americans to recover remains. There may be a few (prisoners of war) alive but mostly now it's down to remains."

A formal end to the war will involve more than just the Koreas. Both China and the US, under the flag of the United Nations, were massively involved in the conflict, and would have to be signatories to an eventual peace treaty.

North Korea Accused of Hacking South Korean Exchanges:

North Korea, a nation that has previously been accused of mining bitcoin in order to flout sanctions, is suspected to have hacked a number of bitcoin exchanges in South Korea. The country allegedly stole “100 million won ($88,100) in bitcoin from 2013 to 2015 as part of its efforts to increase the country’s hard currency,” according to reports.

A Silicon Angle article quoted the police as stating that “the hackers sent 10 emails to 25 workers each at four different bitcoin exchanges, disguising themselves as officials from South Korean public institutions such as the police, prosecution, Seoul city government or Financial Security Institute.”

The police stated that the attack methodology was a “spear phishing” attack. North Korean hackers pretended to be government authorities and servicemen. A story published by Silicon Angle states that the hackers targeted exchange workers by sending them emails loaded with malware.

One intelligence firm, Record Future, has published Google-backed data providing analysis of North Korean internet activity. The data suggests that North Korea began conducting bitcoin mining on May 17. If this is true, and North Korea has also conducted hacking attacks on exchanges, it could mean North Korea is attempting to weaponize bitcoin.

Now that the conflict in Korean Peninsula has ended. What will be the future of bitcoin in the Peninsula? Will the Korean Peninsula hold the highest rank in the Cryptoworld?  What are your thoughts? Peace.
