722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Warning: Fake Casascius Physical Bitcoins website on: October 25, 2011, 04:26:15 PM
I don't understand these people.

With the skill set and effort involved in making that fake site,  they could just as easily provide a real good or service that people want, and make an honest living.

A few years back I had a similar problem with www.memorydealerS.com vs www.memorydealer(no S).com

For a few thousand dollars ICANN was able to reassign the domain to myself.

It might also be worth it in your case.

There are lots of lawyers that do this kind of thing.

723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Japan's first mining pool? on: October 25, 2011, 03:07:39 PM
As as American who has lived in Japan for about 6 years and speaks Japanese fluently,  I can tell you that Japnese are VERY conservative when it comes to money.  I organized a Bitcoin meetup group in Tokyo recently.
http://www.meetup.com/Tokyo-Bitcoin-Meetup-Group/
Only foreigners showed up.

Most Japanese still have a recent Japanese digital currency fresh in their minds.
It failed,  and investors lost billions of dollars.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enten_controversy

I suspect Bitcoin adoption may be slow in Japan,  but I am doing everything I can to speed things up.

I launched www.bitcoin.co.jp a few months ago.

The few, technical Japanese I have spoken with in person about bitcoins seem to get it,  but it will take time.
724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anybody donating to Ron Paul ? on: October 19, 2011, 06:27:59 AM
Donation sent!

Although I do oppose politics on principle.....  Ron Paul is just too much better than all the other choices in 2012.

Here is a video I recommend on taxes:

725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $10,000 Bet that Bitcoins will outperform Gold, Silver by 100X !!! on: October 19, 2011, 05:56:14 AM
Quote
With bitcoins,  a person in California can send $20,000 USD worth of value to a person in Russia in a matter of seconds,  for FREE.

In comparison:
Paypal would cost about $600,  and take a few seconds.
Credit card would cost about $600   and take a few days, to a week, or more.
Bank wire would cost about $40,  and take one or two days.

This is a joke right?  The price now is $2.4.  Somebody sends $20,000 USD worth to somebody else.  That's 8,333.33BTCs.  The recipient wants to cash out immediately to pay for something.  Remember, we're comparing this to services like Paypal, bank wires, etc, where in the end the recipient has cash that they can spend anywhere.  So, the recipient sells their 8,333.33BTCs on MtGox and, uh oh, at the current depth they get $18,800 (not including MtGox fees!).

To get the same result that they would get from PP (i.e. an end result of cash they can spend anywhere) ends up costing at least twice as much!  Isn't it wonderful.

This is why i cant take OP seriously. Either hes extremely dumb or he has his own agenda.

At the time I made the original post,  there was plenty of depth to accommodate  buying or selling $20,000 worth of bitcoins, and hardly move the price at all.  Today that is not the case,  but give it some time.....

I'm not "extremely dumb"  but I do have my own agenda.
It is promoting the free market and the accompanying voluntary society.

Thanks to Eric Voorhees and Chris Lawless as well.
Without them,  none of this would have happened.

Thanks guys!
727  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NEW Major chain restaurant to accept Bitcoins? on: October 08, 2011, 07:32:52 PM
Asking a restaurant to accept Bitcoins is like asking them to start accepting checks again.

I think you have forgotten about "Green Addresses"
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=32818.0

It's the Bitcoin equivalent of a cashiers check,  but even more secure, and easier to use.

729  Economy / Goods / Probable scammer alert on: October 08, 2011, 04:46:20 AM
I recently posted that I wanted to buy two Iphone 4Ss  (They will not be onsale until Oct 14th)

I received the following reply:

"Hey I have two unlocked iphone 4s's. How much are you willing to pay for each?"

I replied asking how he has them before they are even on sale and to send some photos as proof.  He never replied,   so I suspect he was just hoping to get me to pay in advance.

This IS NOT proof of a scam,  but I find it very suspicious.

730  Economy / Goods / Re: WTB Iphone 4S on: October 08, 2011, 04:40:48 AM
Unlocked iPhone4s phones are hard to find right now.. most of the people selling them on eBay are mistakenly selling carrier-locked phones, and the ones genuinely selling the factory unlocked version (which shouldn't be available until November, officially) must know someone on the inside. Good luck finding someone like that who trolls the bitcointalk forums. Smiley

Having said that, if you do find someone, please kindly direct them to me. Smiley

The unlocked ones are already on pre-order in Canada and some other countries.
The USA is getting screwed with carier locked versions.

I found someone who I think is legit to help me already.

731  Economy / Goods / Re: WTB Iphone 4S on: October 07, 2011, 09:26:54 PM
Is there really no one in Canada on this board who wants to earn some extra money with a minimal amount of work?
732  Economy / Goods / WTB Iphone 4S on: October 07, 2011, 10:21:37 AM
Is there anyone in Canada (or any country with unlocked phones)  who is willing to buy two Iphone 4S (Unlocked version)

and ship them to me in California?

I will pay for everything,  plus some extra profit for you.

If you can help,  please email me at roger@memorydealers.com

Thank you Bitcoiners!

I found someone to help me.
Thank you to everyone who replied.
733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / NEW Major chain restaurant to accept Bitcoins? on: October 06, 2011, 11:43:35 PM
Yesterday I was trying to place an online order with http://www.specialtys.com/  but had some trouble,  so I filled out a contact form.

In passing,  I asked when I will be able to pay with Bitcoin on their site.

Today I received the following reply:

Good Afternoon Roger,
Thank you so much for your email. Unfortunately because our catering staff end there day at 5, 5pm pickup is the absolute latest. To ensure you receive the 5:00pm time slot you would need to place your order by 4:30pm. Paying with Bitcoin is an excellent idea! I will certainly pass your suggestions to the web development team for consideration and review. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

For those who don't know,  Specialty's is a chain with about 40 locations.  They have a high tech image with a great website that customers can order online with.  In-person customers don't tell a clerk what kind of sandwich they want.  Instead, they order and pay on an Ipad,  and then wait for their number to be called.   This sort of high tech restaurant seems to be a perfect fit for Bitcoins.

If you live in a town with a specialtys,  I think it would be useful for you to POLITELY contact them here:

http://www.specialtys.com/ContactUs.aspx?Ref=Header

You should send an email something along the lines of:

I heard that you were considering accepting Bitcoins as a payment method.  I just wanted to let you know that I would also be interested in paying with Bitcoins

Please customize your request,  and add any other information for them that you think would be useful.
734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OccupyLA on 10/1 !! We will be there in Bitcoin Attire! Financial Revolution! on: October 03, 2011, 03:54:54 PM
I think it is rather clear for those who spend the time to think about it.

Libertarians are happy to leave other people with the freedom to say "no" I don't want to participate in XX activity.

Statists,  want to take away my freedom to say "no",  I don't want to participate in XX activity.

I'm happy to allow Atlas to do whatever he wants as long as I don't have to participate.

Unfortunately,  Atlas would advocate that force and violence be used against me to compel me participate in whatever government plan he is advocating.

Because of people who share Atlas' world view, I don't have the "freedom" to say "no",  I won't participate with social security,  medicare,  public schools,  socialized medicine, etc.

I think it is clear who is advocating freedom,  and who is advocating compulsion.

Bitcoin tips the balance of power in favor of those who value freedom.
That is why so many libertarian types are attracted to Bitcoin.  (Myself included)

I do apologize if my post was not to your standards.

Perhaps we have different definitions of "success."  If I steal a million dollars from society and build a beautiful park, is that a "successful implementation" of a park?  Does the fact that the beautiful park is desirable give me the moral right to coercively obtain the resources with which to create it?
Taxes aren't theft and not having large amounts of the population die from easily treatable medical conditions for a few percentage points of profit is definitely a 'success'.

FAtlas,

I'm curious.
Every time I see a post of yours on the forum,  you are very anti-Bitcoin,  and very pro-government involvement in every post.
You seem to spend lots of time on this forum where most members have a very different viewpoint than yourself.

I would like to know if you are being paid by an organization to spread your anti-Bitcoin, anti-freedom message on this forum,   or if you just spend this much time because it is entertaining for you on a personal level.

I don't mean this as a personal attack in any way,  I am just curious if spreading Bitcoin negativity is your job.

Personally a fan of https://webcoin.ch which is web optimized.

This is my first time to see it.
I see that it is a true coin project.
Is there any documentation online for this?

It doesn't seem to be working for me with Chrome on OSX Lion.

(It hangs when I try to create a wallet, or view transactions)
