881  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Proactive engagement (anti-government types: ignore this thread) on: July 04, 2011, 01:49:00 PM
I am one of those "anti-government types"  but I would like to respectfully comment that I think an "out of sight, out of mind"  approach may be worthwhile.
I can't think of a time that any new government law or regulation was helpful to me or my business.

883  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does it bother you Bitcoins is used to finance drugs, child porn and terrorism? on: July 02, 2011, 05:34:30 PM
I'm bothered that my tax dollars are used to finance drugs, child porn and terrorism.

The fact that bitcoins will help allow people to choose wether or not to finance these things is just one more reason to use bitcoins instead of government issued currencies.
884  Economy / Goods / Re: WTS 3 x Radeon HD6990 Sapphire cards on: July 02, 2011, 02:02:14 AM
Even with freedom,  there is still plenty of bad etiquette.  You are just free to have those bad manners.
So far I don't find any of the posts in this thread rude though.

A few things I do think people are overlooking:

1.  This card will take a long time to pay off at the CURRENT exchange rate and difficulty,  but if bitcoins jump up in value again,  you can have it paid off much faster.  (When I first started mining,  I calculated that my gear would take about 80 to 90 days to pay off.  In reality it took about 35.  This could very well happen again, and I honestly expect it is likely as more and more businesses begin using bitcoins)

2. If you buy one of these cards,   not only do you get bitcoins while it is mining,  but you have one of the very best gaming cards on the market that you can get entertainment from any time you want.  If you only buy bitcoins,  it is harder to play a video game with them.

Good luck with bitcoins and video games!
885  Local / 中文 (Chinese) / Re: BitCoin in China on: July 01, 2011, 04:34:05 AM
As I write this from inside China,  and as someone who does a lot of business with factories in China,  I can tell you that there IS A LOT OF INTEREST in bitcoins by these factory owners.
I can also tell you that many of them are willing to accept partial payment in Bitcoins for their orders.

There is a lot of discussion on chinese message boards about bitcoins,  and as the word spreads,  I suspect they will become more and more popular in China.

It is a start, but I agree we need more.
888  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Show on OnlyOneTV.com on: June 29, 2011, 03:57:18 AM
The part that pushed my button so much was his comment that I accept bitcoins because I am selling mining gear.
The exact opposite is true. I am selling mining gear because I accept bitcoins.

I accept bitcoins for deeply rooted philosophical reasons.

I first read about the concept of online digital cash in the late 90's and was enthralled by the idea.
I had been waiting for the last decade for it to come along, and now that bitcoins are here,  I can hardly sleep.
I spend just about every waking moment promoting them in every way I can.
I'm positive bitcoins are going to change the world for the better, and I want to be a part of that.
I don't care at all about selling mining gear,  and I can't think of something more insulting to me than having my devotion to bitcoin being downplayed.

Remember,
I am the guy paying $1200 a month for the bitcoin bilboard:
http://www.bitcoinblogger.com/2011/06/bitcoin-billboard-in-silicon-valley.html

$2500 a month for a national radio add on more than 105 stations across the country:

I'm currently working on another project that I think will be the biggest news yet for the bitcoin community.
It's not for sure yet,  but I hope to be able to make an announcement about it at the end of this week.  (Hopefully on Bruce's show)

"Thank you" to all the forum members who helped make the above projects possible.
Keep your fingers crossed!
889  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MemoryDealers on: June 28, 2011, 11:52:44 PM
MemoryDealers.com
They're not new. They've been on the Bitcom.org wiki page for some time.

They accept Bitcoins because they're selling gear for Bitcoin miners. And their shopping cart system (which is Yahoo Store) doesn't accept Bitcoins.

Now if Yahoo Store accepted Bitcoins and converted them for the merchant, that would be big news. But no.

Nagle,

You have no idea why I accept bitcoins,  and I can assure you that it has nothing to do with the fact that I sell some bitcoin mining gear.  I added that gear several weeks AFTER I began accepting bitcoins.
My current yahoo shopping cart system DOES accept bitcoin orders, and I have already contacted Yahoo Store directly, asking them to allow all their users to easily accept bitcoins.   I would appreciate it if you would check your facts and not jump to conclusions about myself and my company in the future.

When will it be on your website so I can post a link to it from my site?
Thank you for the fun experience.

893  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Big name in Bitcoin Business on next MetaCo.in deal. Guess and win 500,000 uBTC! on: June 27, 2011, 02:42:07 AM
I can get just about all the same stuff as Newegg,  but I can't sell it for more than a dollar or two less than they do.

Would you guys be interested in something like this?

http://www.amazon.com/Super-Talent-Pico-C-STU16GPCS-Silver/dp/B001PPPIYM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1309142344&sr=8-3

I can match the same price on Amazon....
894  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Big name in Bitcoin Business on next MetaCo.in deal. Guess and win 500,000 uBTC! on: June 27, 2011, 02:17:41 AM
It's not me,  but I am interested in doing a deal.
We specialize in fiber optic transceivers for use in Cisco equipment,  so I don't think the market will be wide enough for that kind of thing.  Do you guys have any suggestions as to what popular product you would like me to do?
I can do USB flash drives,  but they wont be much/any cheaper than other online sites.

Any thoughts on what you would like to see?
895  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Commercial? on: June 26, 2011, 11:55:58 PM
There is already a national radio campaign running.
I think if we were to do a TV commercial,  we need to choose the show it will air on very carefully.
Any ideas?

Maybe Freedom Watch would be a good, or John Stossel's show.
896  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikileaks accepting bitcoin is a big deal on: June 15, 2011, 01:03:29 AM

I was contacted today by Germany's leading business weekly http://www.wiwo.de/

Below are his questions and my tentative answers.
Please mention anything else you would like me to add or mention in my replies.
It is nearly 2AM in Tokyo,  so I will email him my replies in the morning.

Thanks guys!

What was your reason to accept Bitcoins?
Bitcoins have a number of advantages over traditional payment methods. Nearly every day people try to purchase memory from us with stolen credit card numbers.  If a customer pays with Bitcoins,  we know for sure we have the money.
Bitcoins are also faster and much cheaper than credit cards, paypal, or bank wires.

How do you cope with the volatile exchange rates?
Bitcoin is a new technology that will revolutionize the world.  Because the long term price of bitcoins is increasing,  and since I am not converting them into national currencies,  the volatile exchange rate is not much of a problem.

And where lies the future for Bitcoins in your opinion?
Bitcoins are the most important invention since the internet itself.  They will change the way the entire world does business.
I predict that within a few years,  Bitcoins will become a major currency in the world.
900  Economy / Economics / Re: Have any major sites announced that they will accept bitcoin? on: June 14, 2011, 06:03:22 AM
I'm hard at work to accept Bitcoins in our shopping cart.
It is still so new that it is a challenge to setup.
It is currently an option in the checkout,  but it is completed manually.

That should all change this coming week!
