441  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: can I get any meaningful mining done with a 1k budget? on: April 04, 2022, 02:59:49 PM
WhyFhy Good post, but problem with HNT is that the aerial must be high and depends on how many other hotspots in area.
I have some setup and the return is really low... embarrassingly low. $6 from 4 hotspots total. some of them also using so much internet data that I decide to turn off... I wont give 40GB data a month to HNT network for just $30 a month revenue... its like a scam when I think of it.

However, I know it is possible to make alot, but it depends on few factors...
When HNT started people making  $1400 per month, now check reddit, alot of complaints and ppl lucky to make $50 a month.

But you are right... for the OP, he should consider it. or he should save another $1000 and if patient will get a good deal on a profitable asic thats worth it like S17 etc.

you have 35M high? Or 35ft?

Also which aerial did you use?
I notice alot of ppl mention McGill... but I dont like that they are 4x more expensive than the cheaper...

I am going to test some cheap china ones very soon.
Hello Ivanko88,
I'm using a 40' (FT) Rohn tower , I got it free by simply asking a neighbor if they wanted to get rid of it as most people do not use them in 2022 at least in the US,
I have 30ft of LMR400 and the unit is 6FT (1.82M) from the ground in my garage on the wall by the tower on CAT8e on POE, I installed an OTA antenna on the top of the tower and a j-mount antenna for satellite antenna (so it doesnt get in the way of the rotary ota antenna) and put an efigur 5.8dbi ($50) antenna on it  with lightning arrestor kit ,my antenna is probably 33' (FT) (10m) from the ground and about 10' (ft) (3m) over my roofline clear of major obstructions.
I hear good things on the McGill but regulations here limit us to around 8dbi @915mhz
Before I relocated it I was only making about 1 HNT a month(all stock in a window) , now I'm making about 1.5HNT a week.
as far as your data goes I cannot relate as I have unlimited bandwidth, if your limited on data I personally think its worth trying to optimize your setup and give it another try considering the cost for a elaborate setup doesn't add up in the same way as gpu/asic mining.
I believe in BTC all these little methods such as eth mining and hnt mining are just ways to get more BTC much more efficiently. Also considering 90% of BTC is mined up already I personally feel that entering the asic game right now is a fopaux. It seems like every other day I read about a new 100-500MW asic mining operation opening, I can make the same as any asic with much less electricity and less purchasing cost, and I can run at home. (remember shipping to a datacenter is a longer roi since it adds to overall investment cost especially if your insuring your investment)

Not really sure that this post belongs in Bitcoin Mining.

It's been said a million times you can't effectively mine BTC with a GPU.

This thread should be moved to the altcoin area as it would be more appropriate.
I don't mind it going where it belongs.
I must say step 3 at 2miners.com seems to be very effective at mining BTC with a GPU. There's other options as well such as Mining rig rental's or Nicehash.
Congratulations by the way! But I'm curious why wouldn't you mention your methodologies on your big lucky win on a topic such as this?
Thanks for your suggestions.

Hello budget miners! I figured we could source valid profitable cheap entry-level mining ideas and equipment and processes in one post.
I will keep this updated to the best of my ability with suggestions and postings in the Bitcoin > Mining board.

 Graphics card Mining
It's a good start for a 1 GPU mining rig, you won't make a lot but its something you can run at home with multiple algorithm options leave it a good long term option as well as your operation grows.
Your looking at about $1.00-$3.00 a day this route depending on your Graphics card, minus the electricity cost. A 2080ti opens many algorithm options.
Here some profit calculators that are easy to use Nicehash profit calculator or check out WhatToMine profit calculator.
You can generally build a really cheap rig with old Dell Optiplex 790 systems or like-minded end of life systems. And a PCIe to x4 USB PCIe adapter just make sure its pcie usb and not a usb 3.0 adapter. these open up expansion opportunities on your low end board for around $20-$30.
If you dont have a powerful PSU try out separate ones with the cards and risers running on the same power supply with a power supply tester or a PSU bridge ($4)
Its a temporary solution but will get you by until you can find a deal on something of better quality.

Currently Not profitable

Helium Mining

Helium mining is another way and probably the most profitable as far as equipment cost goes, 1k should get you a nice top of the line setup, A lorawan helium router $450-700 on ebay right now (bobcats are the best from what I hear, but avoid sensecap and syncrobit) , antenna (5.8dbi or 8dbi) lmr400 cable , copper rod, lightning arrestor,  4ft satellite mast, cat8 and some awg10 wire for your lightning arrest system.
If your lucky and have a rohn tower at your house you can make about 50% more then the network average putting it 10+ft above your roofline. every foot of LMR-400 cable degrades your signal about 0.04 DBI
(so a 30' cable =1.2DB strength degrade so turns a 5.8dbi antenna into a 4.6 dbi antenna essentially)
I make about $4-$7 a day on a helium router 35' in the air on a 5.8 dbi antenna. The wonderful thing about them is they only use about $1 in electricity a month.
If you go this route dont shy away from moving the antenna outside , before I put mine outside I ran it in a window and made like $30 a month,
My helium router outperforms all my other gear profit to cost wise. The crappy thing about them is you can only really run one profitably at home but if you have friends that would let you install one around town you can make a killing! (just check helium maps and dont install too close to other helium routers or your profits will go down, they can measure signal RSSI strength and if its too strong they can tell your too close to another unit/s.

op could look into helium mining gear , $450-700 equipment cost , 1k for a nice setup
5~ watts a day
depending how its set up can make up to $5-$10 a day realistically looking at $2-$5 a day though with a easy setup.

this thread has probably been posted dozens of times before, whatever. dont got a huge budget but I'm trying to diversify as much as possible. is there anything good around 1k or should I look to bump up my budget a little? thanks.
Here's my take on budget mining.

edit goldshell is very little rewards vs electric cost, and stick miners are just pissing in the wind. out of the many units sold only a few people ever have made anything on them mining solo

Garage I vent heat out one window and bring fresh air in another, the window screen filters worry-some things like leaves and bugs, I use my compressor to dust stuff once a month sometimes once every 2 months, dont get me wrong it still gets dusty but nothing crazy, I run 1u sxm2 and 2u servers out there, GPU rigs with deltas in enclosed cases , when it starts hitting 90+ I crack the garage 1 inch and lock the door rails plus a kingfan or hdx fan this means more frequent dusting but the garage wont be 110+ degrees like it would without. Just make sure the gears elevated and clean the floor periodically,  I've tried everything even garage ac but I don't feel like insulating and sealing the door just to keep it at 85-95 degrees anyways. (cooled garages are a losing battle down here lol unless you have lots of $$$)

Another effective solution down here is a mining shed but this means installing a pole (if you want it away from the house), I don't run but about 2-3kw of gear so don't see justification in the cost but screened windows mid height and an attic fan near the peak does wonders in the sheds here in Texas (airflow in one direction)
as long as they have good airflow around 95F things should operate fine.

The soundproof box might be restricting airflow if your pressures aren't balanced right, and/or raising ambient temp due to the airflow restriction, try it without the box and see if the issue persist. if it does watch the dashboard and find out what blade is overheating and we can go from there , I'm in Waco I know the struggle too with temp fights, I gave up on soundproofing stuff years ago due to this , thankfully we aren't in Houston fighting humidity too.
Open air+shade is the solution.

451  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoind immediately getting shutdown signal on systemd on: March 31, 2022, 11:35:53 PM
Apparently, Bitcoind hates running as root and that's what was causing the shutdown, as with the default systemd unit file settings, it can't even find its home folder. Kind of strange how no error is printed for it though.

I could've ran it as an unprivileged user, which I did as well as c-lightning without problems, but then running BTCPayServer as unprivileged made stupid .NET path not found errors when trying to access the store, making it effectively useless.

Time to go hunting for bargain dedi servers - I blew too much money on VPSs to continue with those again.

We could really use some help with this
Needs accurate output, somewhere *58 or /58 adds a wrong operation
case insensitive /2 disabled for 1-9 i,o and L and implemented for the rest?
or some type of workaround that's accurate.

explanation on the case insensitive argument
most searchers user a /2 formula for case insensitive
 for example
1oojoo1 =888446610539
but
-c 1oojoo1 =444223305269
but in this case only 1/6 can be decreased
leaving 16.6666666667% of the prefix able to be divided by 2
(8.3333333333) therefore a reduction of 8.3333333333% of the initial 888446610539 difficulty
this means the adjusted difficulty is truly 74037217544 (I think Huh) with a case insensitive option applied.

I really am out of my league on this the following formulas have been reversed engineered to the best of our ability and is obviously still incorrect.
I'd like to credit OverGril for helping me attempt to solve this we are trying to create a service thats mostly free to all but we need more pinpoint accuracy in order to do this.

Help us figure this out so we can plug it into a input field and output a true difficulty so we can do accurate time estimates.

PM me accurate solution/formula for a reward

I've been down those roads with most of the players that you are thinking about, including services that specialize in getting business like mine banked. I'm not going to get into details but the saga involves several closed accounts (Coinbase and Chase included) and outright rejections unless we do at least $1 mil/month in deposits. There is one specialty service that focuses on selling BTC to people in my position but they charge well above market rate and the cash must be mailed to them.

It's just much easier to source from the community. It closes the ecosystem loop and eliminates a lot of intermediate processes, fees, and lag.
I've looked at it from your paradigm ,the final solution, its time to get into mining . (BitMax is right) Purchase bitcoins from exchanges and rent rigs from mrr. or use your cash capitol for to purchase a few miners locally.

456  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin ATM Operator Looking to Partner with local Miners (USA) on: March 17, 2022, 02:00:27 AM
The rate is negotiable. The advantage of dealing with us is that you would have a consistent cash buyer and all the perks that come from private cash purchases which is appealing for some miners. The problem with using an exchange is that we need to be banked and banks aren't willing to onboard a bitcoin company like mine unless we do really high volume. As we are still a regional operator, we don't yet have the volume required to be banked and therefore be able to use an exchange. This is why we have typically sourced from miners and other ecosystem participants. However, we've outgrown our current sources and need to cultivate additional relationships.

Coinbase would be happy to onboard you. Chase would also be happy to be the middleman for your cash deposits before they land on the coinbase exchange (no matter the revenue for both) . And they are both FDIC insured. Do you have an LLC? Not having one at all complicates things and makes it look like your laundering money to small banks/ credit unions (even though you probably are not)   Majority of your "sovereign citizens" can't hide op sizes you are aiming for, You've entered new territory people with the BTC capitol you seek know you make %8-11 a sale and dont care about how much your paying vendors so if your pocketing 4-8% and trying to squeeze a little more profits for trades you are going to be hard pressed. good luck !

This is the second time this has happened over the years, does anyone know why? ive asked in the past but do not recall getting answers

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5112311.440  nvm

Take the RTX 3070 for example.
  Bitcrack gives out 800mk.
Vanitysearch, gives out 1600-1700mk.
So why not use vanitysearch for search, if it is twice as fast?
Therefore, I asked about the possibility of searching in a fixed range, in vanitysearch.
You can read up, I've answered this before.

When vanity search lands on a single private key, it actually checks that single key against 6 possibilities, because it is checking Point + endo1 + endo2 + symmetries. While vanitysearch modded is faster than bitcrack, the precompiled version is checking more points per single private key which is why the speed seems a lot faster.

this explains why 1 of 6 will be valid if split gen right?

Yes. But this is due only to the way the programs we use to reassemble the pieces for the final private key work.

Let s (Q = sG) be the secret private key (the public key). Only one person knows 's'.

Then he sends only Q to another person, who run a "split gen" program.

Usually "split gen" works like this:

it computes only (s+1)G = Q + G, (s+2)G = Q + 2G, …, (s+k)G = Q + kG = P

until it gets a public key P with a particular address.

The program knows only k (the partial private key).

Then you need to compute k' (k' G = P):

k' = (s + k)  mod n.

Now suppose you get P in this way: - (Q + kG) = P

then in order to get from the partial private key k the correct final private key k' = (-s -k) mod n
you need to know how k was obtained (exploiting the symmetry).

If you get P in this way: λ(Q + kG) = P

(exploiting the endomorphism) the correct final private k' will be: λ*(s + k) mod n   and so on.
I'm quoting this for research purposes.
