141  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Binance Hackers Bombard Chipmixer to Launder at Least 4,836 BTC on: August 20, 2019, 02:59:16 PM
Quote
As previously reported, a crypto mixing service, or a crypto tumbler, is an anonymity tool that claims to transform transactions of non-private coins to private ones by mixing crypto funds with others...

I have been thinking of these mixers, are they actually bullet proof?
Are those algorithms un hack-able , I mean if these hackers will go unpunished because they used this service and it can be proven that they are the owners of hacked coins?
142  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I LOST 0.40 BTC BECAUSE OF AN GMAIL ACCOUNT on: August 20, 2019, 02:51:34 PM
GMAIL is not the problem.

Problem was your lack of security measures, if you have registered in any exchanges with your gmail account then you have to have minimum security which is 2FA applications, app is better than sms because sms can be faked if they know your phone number.

Additional advice: do not use the same password as your emails in other pages!
143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The top 5 must-see Bitcoin movies in 2019 on: August 19, 2019, 11:11:12 AM
lol, i dont know if there enough good movies about BTC to chose a top from them.

I would say that we can add movies which are about traditional system being fraudulent and crooked, this after all is why BTC exists inthe first place. In this case , I recommend this movie : " the big short" .
144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Here is why you shouldn't trade bitcoin based on the news on: August 19, 2019, 11:08:20 AM
Crypto market is not reacting to news as it used to in the times of the big bubble.
Todays news also is 99% twisted and fake, they are written only to get clicks and sell their ads, this is business and has nothing to do with price.
There should be no thoughts about trading on the news.
145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Africa needs bitcoin, not a charity on: August 19, 2019, 11:06:30 AM
In regions where bank infrastructure is very week or non existence , that includes debit and credit card payment links, crypto could be a huge boost to the economy. But there is a huge obstacle, those regions also have a bad internet coverage and people do not own smartphones.
146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pricing everyday items in SATs on: August 16, 2019, 10:17:24 AM
If i am speaking my mind, i have to say i hate those who are contantly speaking in sats. Just do the absolute value sof BTC, it makes much  more sense for me, i can instantly calculate it. This way i dont need an extra conversation to get to he fiat value which is needed like ir or not.
147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IBM Find Only 2% Of Bitcoin Transactions Are Unlwaful on: August 16, 2019, 10:15:12 AM
The fact alone that this kind of research can be done easily and publicly is a huge factor for bitcoin legitimacy . And this is the thing that most people do not understand, everything is public, all the transactions. In contrast it is very hard to map bank transfers.
148  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If you have 2000$ USD. Where you invest? on: August 15, 2019, 09:46:09 AM
Today I would invest half in BTC, because I believe that BTC has had its retrace and wont have to go down much more before going up.
Also Ripple has a good price .
I would go 50% BTC 25%XRp 25% Monero
149  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 76% of dark market using Bitcoin on: August 15, 2019, 09:44:44 AM
The number " 76% " is interesting , I agree.
But I did not found what was the absolute value of the dark web turnover in the article.
I suppose that BTC is still the king because monero is harder to implement and maybe because it is harder for those who are buying stuff there to buy it - Monero is not sold in regulated exchanges , at least what i have noticed
150  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Why 20% profit in crypto is TERRIBLE. on: August 14, 2019, 12:44:10 PM
I dont agree with you ,20% is a very nice profit.
It depends on the timeframe and amount of your investment .

If you invest 100$ then it feels like nothing, but if you have the guts to invest 1000$ or more and if you take your profit at 20% at small timefram you are a good trader and if you can manage to do it on regular basis, I will take my hat off in front of you, my sir.
151  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: British Authorities (HMRC )Seek Data from Crypto Exchanges on: August 14, 2019, 12:36:06 PM
Is not that sound like centralization? If continue like this then perhaps people's will trade or buy sell illegally so that they could avoid taxes. So they might save taxes. On the other hand people's will never use centralized exchanges who will ask for KYC. Expose KYC means crypto users can't stay anonymous. This isn't really good things for crypto-currency users.

Trade anonymously will become much more difficult.
There are very few exchanges which are anonymous trully. Does who you think are anonymous, often are not - Etherdelta and IDEX are contralised now.
The biggest hurdle in your story would be not to trade but to convert to FIAT, all exchanges in all countries will soon be required not only to ask KYC but also monitor your transaction. There are very few ways you can find a way to exchnage crypto to FIAT anonymously.
152  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin mixers be considered illegal by worldwide governments? on: August 12, 2019, 09:37:55 PM

If governments ban mixers/tumblers, then they could easily do the same to privacy-oriented cryptocurrencies like Monero and Grin. It's all a matter of power and control over people than anything else. What do you think about this? Huh

Tell me what else for mixers are used then laundering money - making their transactions untraceable?
As you wrote, mixers are centralized - so they can be brought down by legal action.
Monero and other privacy coins are not centralized so they can not be brought down.

The solution is script based mixers, the only action can be made towards site owners, but this is the future also for the decentralized exchanges.
153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: British Authorities (HMRC )Seek Data from Crypto Exchanges on: August 12, 2019, 06:51:32 PM
Following USA now UK HMRC contacted exchanges for users data. They contacted Coinbase, eToro and CEX.IO.

are you currently paying taxes for your crypto in UK? If you simply purchased crypto in an exchange for example coinbase and then moved the crypto to a hardware wallet etc, do you need to pay taxes?  If no, how do you convince taxman that you simply transfered from one account to another of yours rather than selling?Huh

Thanks

it should be easy enough, my understanding is that you have to pay taxes only from your gains and you dont have gains if you do not sell.
If they ask , show the the crypto transactions and done.

This is global change, the main reason is that FATF made new guidelines and most of the exchanges will follow. This unfortunately was a logical next step in crypto evolution.
154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does anyone else get crazy high anxiety when they transfer btc between wallets? on: August 12, 2019, 06:48:47 PM
Hah , I know what you mean.
But no, not any more.
I remember the first times I was very anxious, the main reason probably was that i did not know how things work back then,
Now i just recheck the address few times and dont worry.

I'd be interested to see some stats about the alt structure here. This account is a Jet Cash alt, and it was set up to sell crypto domain names. Jet Cash has three other alts of member status, and one protective registration. Hopefully they are all contributiing to the forum in some way.

There is no real way of telling that someone has alts without them actually telling it.

I don't have a goal, it's something Pffrt asked about.

When you are done scraping, if you are not up for analyzing  the data in respect to member rank ans activity. Let me know , I would be interested to take a look.
157  Other / Meta / Re: Truth about bitcointalk users 2.0 on: August 07, 2019, 01:00:53 PM
I don't want to do that, as the "1 request per second" limitation is set up for a reason.
Fair enough.

BTW what is your goal with information of the 20 last posts?
158  Other / Meta / Re: Truth about bitcointalk users 2.0 on: August 06, 2019, 08:39:54 PM
Over 165 thousand active members is quite a healthy community base. Is rhere a way that we can encourage an increase in posting by the high end of this asset?

It seems that you added all the ranks excluding " Brand new" and tought that they are active users.
In this case, you are far from truth.
First, this analysis at the time was done for only 1million of the users. Second, not all the users are active.

The last thing i did was - analyzed the activity much deeper. and by scraping 2,37 million users with their last post time, the result was that.

Quote
There are total of 137122 users who have made a post in last 3 months, if we exclude Newbies , the number drops to 31211
More here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5046264.msg46655791#msg46655791

The number surely is much different nowadays.

If I'd have a list of active accounts, I could scrape the last page of each user's post history (20 posts) to check this. I've been scraping all new posts from my VPS since 2 weeks now. In a couple of months, I could use that to get a list of active users to start from.

Lately have not had the time to scrape the forum. In order to scrape it faster you could use multiple virtual machines, it took me less than a week to scrape those 2,37 million.  I did scrape the time of the last post not the 20 posts . I dont think that you will be able to get much more information regarding activity with those 20 posts than with the last one.

In either case it would be fun to see how the activity has changed over this time.
159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Beaxy - The All-in-One Cryptocurrency Exchange on: July 25, 2019, 04:27:16 PM
You can even try to make a comparison between beaxy and bcnex and as a young exchange and bcnex is more suspicious because it has claimed if the exchange site has thousand bitcoin daily trade volume. 1.5 millions is so small compared with it.

Where do you het this information about BCNEX?
Their official telegram channel states that their exchnae is not yet operational and will be opened in next few months.

Decoin exchange is an example of brand new exchange with no fake volume, they dont have many coins yet but thats another thing.
160  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: About Merit on: July 25, 2019, 09:40:44 AM
Asking for merit is not a good practice and as you can see noone wants to give you merit just because you are asking for it.
i can give you some pointers how to earn them.

1  Be useful , contribute to the thread. This means give some more information on the topic with source links.

2  Think of something useful for others and post it. For example there are few who decided to gather data on active bounties and make spreadsheet, this earned them merit. I wont suggest to do the same, because it is already done. Just as example.
