381  Other / Meta / Re: Confessions of a bounty hunter/shit poster on: September 23, 2018, 10:33:41 AM

The first time I visited the META section or even knew what it the hell it was is when the entire forum lost their shit for being ranked down.  Wow what an eye opener.  The entire forum is based on shit posting!.  If you don't come in and study the rules (I hate to break it to you but as is fairly obvious no one reads them)  your going to automatically assume this is a shit posting forum and if you want to earn you join the mix.

Forum is wel aware that newcomers do not search for the rules when they join, that is why there is an active initiative to make a welcome message with the most important information to educate the new members.

Altough you have some valid points about the availabilty and the pay of the signature cmapaigns regards the poor people , thus making this a easy way for them to make money while samming this forum, the merit system is working and new rules are implemented and then analysed to ultimately stop new spammbies and farmers.
382  Other / Meta / Re: Most annoying word of forum on: September 22, 2018, 09:35:29 PM
I think it might be "Sir".  Grin
This one! It is annoying as hell.

" Sir" for some reason tends to go together with "Dear" making this phrase: " Dear,Sir" the king  off all annoying phrases of all time.
Also words" exchange" " update" and " moon" together with "When"  is hugely annoying.

It seems that we have some answers that are repeating, perhaps a poll would be a good idea after some more answers are collected Smiley
383  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] Members who support newbies - Thanks! on: September 22, 2018, 09:23:43 PM

Please let's not use timing as a criterion for abuse. I often open a bunch of +Merit in tabs and then just submit them all and I'm sure I'm not alone doing that.

Agreed, the timing alone is not a solid criteria for abusers.

There is a lot of love for quality new members. It's the spambies that are the ones that the rules are intended to control. I suspect a lot of the 150-200 are spambies promoted by their alts and sponsors. I think the good news is that the new rules highlight these members and their puppet masters. If there are too many, then the next stage will have to be sig removal for juniors.

It seems that puppet masters are rushing to regain control of their puppet army after new rules and this most likely will be their downfall in anycase Wink

384  Other / Meta / Re: Is the new rule (1 Merit for Jr. Member) already paying off? on: September 21, 2018, 03:09:04 PM
Are you able to calculate how many jr.members were born from yesterday to today and from who were born?
For example, if a person gave the birth to 10 or 20 or 30 Jr.Members can starts to be suspicious!

If you havent yet seen it, I suggest you take a look at this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5034141.0
It shows the top users who have given merit to Newbies.

It is very nice to see that this new system is working even with all the abusers.
This was a rational way to  reduce spam in this forum. Thank you, theymos!

I imagine that we will see similar situation as when the merit system was introduced, abusers sent merit  to their alts back and forth till merit run out and then if mods will have time, they will catch the abusers one by one.

385  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] Members who support newbies - Thanks! on: September 21, 2018, 02:43:01 PM
interesting to see the top 4 merit givers are already red trusted and merited about 200 newbie, i haven't check yet the merited post, so i can be wrong, but i guess this is not going to end up well

Gave them a  quick look and it seems like a huge farm atleast for some of them.

I do not think that these posts could be considered as good even if we strecth it:

Allo the intervals between awards is suspucious.

The past red trust, the change of merit awarding behaviour shortly after new restrictions and the timing of merit awarding with 20 sec intervals is enough factors for me to think that it is farming after all.

The real question will the mods have time to investigate these kind of cases , will this behaviour reveal big farms or let them be,
386  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stop allowing manipulators to switch you off and on on: September 20, 2018, 07:48:52 PM
This is not have manipulation works nowadays, in recent months BTC has become more and more stable regarding news and FUD.
The real manipulation is done by taking various positions on marging trading platforms and then selling or buyng large amounts of BTC in exchnages, this makes the price go up or down fast and then they get to meet their leverage targets and make nesseceraly actions on exchnages as well. This is done by so called whales.
387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence on: September 20, 2018, 07:44:33 PM
More and more ICO projects are coming based on many major currencies and specially in this year the trend increased rapidly with many reputed organizations that are in various industries and trades decided to start there own digital currency to make there business more effective and efficient in order to gain more profit.
Can these new launching Altcoin's make a negative impact on bitcoin's expansion in the future because we all know in order to increase the demand, usability and accessibility of bitcoin it should be widely use in most business areas but if Altcoin's take these opportunities how it can achieve its vision to become a widely used digital currency

Not realy, almost all of the altcoins are shitcoins, they dont take away anything from BTC, they are made just to make invstors belive that they will get their money back with some profit, that is it.
Other popular coins are private coins, these also are not a threat becasue decent vendors wont use them anyways.
Then there is protocol coins which have their own gae, which also does not impact BTC.

I see that the biigest impact of altcoins to btc ir that they are giivng BTC a bad name.
388  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Switzerland a cryptocurrency heaven? on: September 19, 2018, 12:35:31 PM
There are other players which are also trying to become a cryptocurrency hub.
From the top of my head - Malta, Estonia, Latvia.

Switzerland is so rich because of their financial services , so it is not a big surpise that they are also trying to get in crypto game.
It is hard to tell which country is th ebest, only serious professionals which have been involved in different projects at management level can answer this question.
389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in Iran touch 26.000 USD on: September 19, 2018, 12:32:49 PM
why is the price of Bitcoin in Iran is more expensive than global prices?
Is it really possible for a country to determine the selling price of Bitcoin?

You are a Sr.Member in this forum how it is possible that you have missed this situation before?
There have been numerous accasions when this have happen:
1)Some country in South Africa, matbe it was  Zimbawe
2)And how you did miss Japan prices while in the bubble?
390  Other / Meta / Re: Statistics of 2,312 million bitcointalk users on: September 09, 2018, 10:18:10 PM
You could just add the new stats to the old thread...would be better imo.
I have considered it but if you read the post carefully , you will notice that i use different approaches and the information is different not just more data thus i think this more appropriate.

a)The data is considerably newer as I mentioned at the start of thepost
b) Last time I used last month and this year. This time I went with 3 months and this year.
c) Added lower ranks to activity graphs.

P.s. After I estabilsh the best statistic base and represantation I will eventaully change te manner for example to thread  -Statistics of forum and update it periodically or to outside page.
391  Other / Meta / Statistics of 2,312 million bitcointalk users on: September 09, 2018, 09:18:42 PM
Hello!
In my last post I looked at first 2 million users and their rank distribution and at user activity. This time I will show more complete distribution of user rank ad their activity in this forum. I have scraped users with their ID's up to 2312500. The complete distribution is shown below. I did not not just scrape IDs above 2 million and merge them with old data, I have completely re-scraped all the IDs for more accurate representation of situation.

I have not shown deleted skipped users in this distribution. The amount of deleted/skipped id's is 19113. Skipped ID amount depends on the errors while scraping data and in addition there is some amount deleted users, which is estimated to be around 16'000 users .

To compare 2 million users IDs to 2'312'500 ID's there is little surprise that the biggest addition to statistics are to Brand New users (230k) , Newbies (66k) and Jr (12k) .

In my last post there was a lot of discussion about the activity and how to define it. One of the best ways to define it would be by using time of the last post of any given users but this is technically challenging since it requires scraping users last post, this option right now is not supported by current scraper version. While I or anyone else haven't yet made these modifications to scraper in order to achieve this, we will have to get by with "last activity" data which is scraped from users profile. This time i decided to show also the activity of lower rank user activity. It seems to me that it is a good practice to define the activity as "last activity" in last 3 months in addition i thought it would be interesting to see activity within this year.

The total number of users who have had "last activity" within last 3 months is 425584. If we exclude Brand New's and Newbie's the number drops significantly and the number then is 82056.

Further lets look at the activity charts regarding this year.

The total number of users who have had "last activity" within this year is 985811.  This year represents approximately first 7 months of this year. If we exclude Brand New's and Newbie's the number then is 102186.

Since I just showed activity in 2 different timelines, I think most of us would like to see comparison also:

392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Many think crypto is dead. It is not. on: August 31, 2018, 09:18:42 AM
Those who thin kthis way are a) very new to this market b) how a very narrow view of things. Possible some of them have lost moeny recently and now are in panic mode. I for one see this market as normal conseqences after a huge bull run, we have fluctuations and constatnly haveing lower highs . But the good news is that lfluctuation is getting weaker this means that we are close to bottom and will see new cycle emerging relatively soon.
393  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: High risk results to high rewards on: August 31, 2018, 09:08:21 AM
https://www.livebitcoinnews.com/4-in-10-americans-will-never-invest-in-bitcoin-says-latest-crypto-study/

I've known some few friends who are into forex and stock investments. When they've learned that I engage myself into crypto trading and investments they discouraged me due to bitcoin's price volatility and unpredictable fluctuations. All I can say to them is that I only invest an amount that I can surely afford to lose and taking huge risks will definitely compensate you good returns as well. I bumped into this article saying that 4 in 10 Americans will never invest in bitcoin, which is somewhat realistic but still history can really tell that bitcoin has changed lots of millennials who took the risk and profited when bitcoin value skyrocketed to almost $20k last year.

So with this article it shows that there is still high percentage of Americans that is willing to take risks to invest in bitcoin just to make some good profit in the near future. What are your thoughts regarding this one? Share me your thoughts.

First of all isnt this " High risk results to high rewards"  obvious ?
But your story is werid since forex traders basically live off violaty and one of the chracteristics of forex traiding is the possibilty to leverage your  trades. And this is needed if one wants to make money on daily or even weekly basis, without leverage you have to have a ton of liqudity in order to make some money. Since usually forex markets have low violaty they need to use this leverage. Now to contradiction, how they can tell that crypto is to much fluctuations when they are forced to use leverage in Forex in order to make some money from calm markets.. for me it seems the smae thing.
394  Other / Meta / Re: The Merit System, Bounty Reporting and Proof of Authentication on: August 31, 2018, 08:58:45 AM
1. Is anything being done to encourage bounty managers to adopt automated bounty reporting techniques as can be seen in https://www.bountysquad.com/ and https://bountyplatform.io/ as a way of reducing unecessary and substandard posts like bounty reporting?

2. Does the proof of authentication pattern introduced to checkmate cheating also constitute substandard posts?
1.I wont trust these platforms because they do not show how the stakes are calculated and i have red that some users have good reason to believe that there are some shady bussines going on.
2. I believe this is what you are looking for https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3953664.msg37702167#msg37702167

395  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ETF on: August 30, 2018, 10:24:12 PM
Bitcoin ETF has been discussed on so many ways and levels that I am starting to get sick from seeing 10 news articles a day about BTC ETF. The truth is that it wont be accepted any time soon because the main reason behind SEC rejection is that BTC market is being manipulated my uknown players, Since SECs main goal is to protect the consumer form markets which are manipulated easily, they will not accept any BTC ETF any time soon  and it does not matter if they decide to review rejections .
396  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-29] Crypto trader: The bulls will be back if bitcoin holds above $7,000 on: August 30, 2018, 10:12:23 PM
So the CNBC contrarian indicator strikes again. Doing the opposite of what they report is a cast iron guarantee of success.

You don't even have to use CNBC as indicator to know that we're constantly setting lower highs. I don't know how many times this year I have shorted the short term peaks, but thus far every short has turned out to be profitable just by using the longer term downtrend in my advantage. The market has turned into a predictable vehicle and nothing will change that unless something groundbreaking happens and the market turns full biullish, which I don't see happen this year.

It's far more likely to see $5000 than $10,000 this year, and I'm not saying that because we're closer to the $5000 level right now. If you also take into consideration that January and February have always been the worst months of a year in Bitcoin, I'm pretty confident that we'll see the market bottom out for real in Q1 of 2019.

Completely agree with you, was expecting lower high again soon, and here it is.
Good for you that you are takeing advantage of this market, i dont have the nerve right now to do so . I thin kthat we will have chance of entering new bullish cycle when market will calm down.
397  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-28] BTC Price Approaches $7,000, Tom Lee Predicts Explosive End Of Year on: August 30, 2018, 10:03:20 PM
I think that he is still drunk on last years BULL RUN, I dont hink that we will see another BULL run so soon. Market still is full of speculators and people who are desperately trying to get back what they lost during the hangover of crypto party. I will start to belive in next wave of bullish pattern when we i will see calm market with slow gains. For short term my prediciotns is that we are going below 6k.
398  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-28] Bitcoin Could Make Credit Cards Obsolete on: August 30, 2018, 10:00:16 PM
I suppose it is a matter of the goods one is going to purchase and also a big deal is trust. You have to have good reputation in order for customers to use BTC or have to care about your repuatation also there is the jurisdictiono factor, if the vendor is under certian jurisdiction , it could be safe to use cryptos. Or vendor coulduse crypto gateway, but in this case fees rise and then crypto payment could potentially  be even more expensive then CC payment. This is for online payments.

i can imagine that payments on the spot with crypto POS could be much more effective since you see the merchandise and have much more trust in the seller.
399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to choose bounty? on: August 30, 2018, 04:57:02 PM
First of all , I suggest to NOT go trough bounty section, this is a very messy place.
There are several ways to go about this problem.

You can go trough all the campaigns of respected managers like Arteezyx or Sylon. This way you will know that you will get paid but most likely the pay will not be big.
The other way is to search for projects which have already raised some amount of money preferably in Pre ico stage and the filter out hose who
a) has a bounty
b) has good % allocated for bounty
c) has as little as possible participants

In anycase this takes time and effort.
Good luck.

I too had some problems with acces to forum, was thinking that it could be beacause of increased bot traffic. It seems that everything is working well at the moment. Smiley

Why would someone DDos these forums? What could they possibly gain from doing this?

Glad to see everything working now, because I wasn't able to use the forums the past 3 hours.

As far as i have heard that this is one of the methods how hackers could gain acces to information which is stored to server..? like passwords.
Also as others have mentioned before, it could be an attemt to extort webpage owners if the server or admin cant handle the attack.
