I called this scam out at the beginning. Even if the Dev had good intentions it would fail. But the fact that he played the Icelandic banking crisis card showed what he was about. Anyone that knows Iceland knows that it has remained one of the wealthiest countries based on GDP in the world. The standard of living of in Iceland is high. You give a person from Iceland $50 and he will think of it as pocket change.

BCX was speaking in jest  Wink

Apparently Rikkejohn  isn't exactly Capt. Obvious.

~BCX~

Normally I would have picked up on it but there are so many deluded people here that I thought you were just one of them.

I've made a mental note of the initials BCX to not make sarcastic replies to.

More a love/hate relationship, where else would I dump my crapcoins? but seriously on the established coins hardly the volume there to trade, so rarely do anymore.

What are you talking about?

AUR just had 6000 BTC/ 24hr volume ROFL....

~BCX~

I wouldn't roll on the floor laughing, he said "established" coins had no volume.

So the joke is on you, fella!

BCX was speaking in jest  Wink

shit, so is the joke on me now ffs? :-)
704  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of Stake Investment - NVC/HBN/PHS/TEK/and more on: March 07, 2014, 11:35:12 PM
In a market completely saturated by shite, getting a dividend is not a reason to invest. Fair enough, some coins you mention are okay but I'd take my chances and just invest in BTC. I reckon my holdings (against USD) in 5 years compared to yours will be better (assuming we are not playing trade games).

Cryptsy went way over the top, then CoinEx followed to keep up. Half the coins added now seem to crash immediately.

Fair enough if it is about business, but I wonder whether in the long-term it will really pay off.

You hit a point where you just won't bother with anything other than BTC, LTC and maybe a small handful of promising coins.

707  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Undervalued coins on: March 07, 2014, 05:10:43 PM
Yep, goldcoin is on the 1st page, under a bunch of actual real gold coin sites, which basically just looks confusing.

And never said goldcoin was a pump and dump. It's more of a slow slide to oblivion -- 20K or so less current market cap than the mighty catcoin. It'd be better if goldcoin was new, as then at least there would be an excuse for the low marketcap.

Our marketcap is not speculative.. it's real.. people are buying and selling video games and other items with GoldCoin.. it's actually in use.

How many of those coins on the top 50 list have fake market caps with little to no depth or worse have released only a fraction of the coins they claim to the actual public to trade with??

In any case, the new client will boost things up quite a bit. I don't need you or anyone to buy GoldCoin, but it is worth looking into. We are going to be living up to our slogan soon.

They were some nice superblocks that were shoved into the coin for the premine.

That isn't a criticism, I would have done the same at that point in crypto-history.

NB: Last time I downloaded the client I got a malicious file warning. It put me off running the client, so when you update you might want to look into that (assuming you haven't already).

http://daft.cc/auroracoin/compare

Auroracoin back to #1 as the most mined coin. I hope you guys are loaded with cheap coins as the next pump approaches.

You should know better than to spread false hope. With the exception on yourself, it's telling that the newbies (who are probably bagholders) are praising this coin and the members are sceptical. And people thought it would overtake Litecoin (poor deluded fools).

dude why don't you just STFU!! god damnit!! Put some confidence in the coin or get the fuck out of the thread and go buy whatever coin you don't think is shit..  I'm fucking tired of all the god damn dumping of coins because someone had a bad opinion of them..

People don't dump coins because one person has a bad opinion, they dump coins because they're shit and soon going to be worthless.

But, but, but ... it's gonna be the national currency of Iceland and solve all the problems that Iceland does not have and ... it's just good, goddamn it!!
709  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Stop Creating Coins that have no Developer behind it on: March 06, 2014, 10:43:31 PM
Blame Cryptsy, it was it that added a hundred coins in a hundred days or whatever. It just encourages people and devalues the other shit.

So dogshit being devalued by catshit.

DGC, WDC, XPM, that crowd, was enough.

Actually, Cryptorush is making things even worse.

Cent is finished, really it is. There are trillions, the PoS was coded badly, or purposely badly.

Whatever, the coin is no more, just get rid.
713  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The True Value of Auroracoin on: March 05, 2014, 10:49:30 PM
I said this in another thread, and I will say it again here:

The entire concept of the DEV of this coin actually distributing the coin to the folks in Iceland is going to be an EPIC failure or a TOTAL SCAM.

The DEV had an IDEA of distribution but released the coin without a REAL implementation plan and either one of several things is going to happen.

1. He will attempt to find a manual method of doing distribution, or will mail out some random paper wallets, or find some other half ass way to do a TINY bit of distribution and claim that he is meeting his promise.

2. He will give the coins to friends, or perhaps to a group of folks on an iceland forum board or IRC channel (These folks may or may not be actual Ice Lander's) and claim that he is meeting his promise.

3. He will dump them him self or by using friends and other associates... if he is smart he will do this slowly in combination with some of the above mentioned.

4. He will dump a bunch of the pre mined coins himself in large quantities (get noticed) and disappear with a large profit.

What I can GUARANTEE YOU will NOT happen is that the coins will be distributed to all ICELANDERS as promised.

Sure there is a national ID system that "COULD" be used for verification purposes.  There "COULD" be a method of checking an online form fillers IP address for Icelanders ISP's.  There "COULD" be all kinds of things.... BUT all that SHOULD have been put in place BEFORE the coin was launched, and all of that WOULD have been in the media many months prior to seeing it show up only in forums that discuss bit/alt coins.

I completely understand folks jumping on new coins for quick profit (I do it myself), but the amount of Zealotry in this thread makes me sick to my stomach.

All of you in this thread need to ask yourself these questions:

Where are the websites and detailed TECHNICAL PROOF of any kind of coin delivery system.  Where are the WHITE PAPERS showing his plans to thwart hackers and folks who would try impersonate Icelanders via VPN or by generating fake National ID's via algorithm like a common key gen?  Where is the proof that the dev even has ACCESS to all the ID numbers in order to prove they come from the national database?  Where is his list of Icelandic addresses if he wants to send paper wallets?

Let alone how is he going to explain what he is even giving away?  Contrary to popular belief, most folks don't even know what a BIT COIN is, let alone what a Auroracoin is.  Does the dev think that all these folks are going to get on a computer and take the weeks of reading and searching to find out wtf a crypto currency is, how exchanges work, how to convert to BTC/ Etc?  If he plans on delivering "paper wallets" who is going to explain to the common folks how the encryption keys work or how to "sweep" those keys to a physical wallet?  Where is his program for mass adoption of this coin in Iceland?  There isn't even a SINGLE place in Iceland that will accept this "coin".  NOT ONE STORE.

He would have had to have MASSIVE (AND I MEAN MASSIVE!) youtube, twitter, blog-o-spere, and PUBLIC educational videos already available BEFORE the coin went live in order for this to have a chance in hell of ever working.  Even with ALL the above the chance's are still TINY that the country would adopt any crypto.  People on these forums just need a reality check of the fact that most people aren't even computer literate (sure they can get on facebook, and type out a few emails, but that is pretty much the extent of it) let alone able or WILLING to do all the research and experimenting with cryptos to even make it worth their while.

I could go on and on.

The reality is that there is nothing but WORDS on a website.

Only some anonymous coin dev making promises that he can't deliver.

No matter what happens with this coin it WILL BE bad for crypto's, and ALT COINS in particular.  This will be seen as another failure because the DEV of this coin did NOT do his homework BEFORE release.

This post is not FUD, nor is it an attempt to move price one way or the other.  It's just a fucking reality check to those of you who are blindly believing in the promises of some random person on the internet.  IF that isn't the definition of gullible, than I don't know what is.

If you want to go on about the short term profits of this coin, or how your market orders are doing well, fine.  I'm all about that.

But let's call a spade a spade and stop the bullshit about this coin actually doing ANYTHING positive for the folks in Iceland.

As they say... "PICS or it didn't happen!"  I say show me the PROOF instead of just WORDS on a website.

714  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How will the Aurora Premine Airdrop effect the price? on: March 05, 2014, 05:15:52 PM
Most Icelandic people will not bother picking them up, and if they do they can't do anything with the coins other than sell them, in which case the price drops, or keep them, in which case they are left holding something that is worthless.

The thing about Iceland is people are not really into being used by people looking to make money. They got fucked over by greedy bankers, which although certainly didn't make Iceland poor, it did give the population a deep mistrust of "out of the ordinary" investment schemes.

Plus, there are not really any poor people in Iceland, and not really many rich people either. Your average person there has no need of some imaginary money that we pretend is worth 2 dollars.

715  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Timeline since beginning of DOJ Silk Road investigation on: March 04, 2014, 08:55:21 PM
Much has been discussed on the Mt.Gox situation but there still has not been an acceptable explanation.

In this pastebin are some of the bigger events leading up to mt.gox withdrawal issues. I feel there may be a strong link towards the silk road investigations, money laundering and perhaps some well known parties and individuals in the bitcoin space. http://pastebin.com/jES4zEuf

Please discuss!

Didn't click the link, but I'll pretend that I did and suggest that fat lad surely would have had links to Silk Road. Bitcoin itself grew on Silk Road, so it makes sense that the world's largest exchange (then) was involved in some way.

Fair enough, and I have to say Silk Road is sorely missed.

One of my conspiracy theories is that Karpeles has been in the grip of organised crime. I look at this way, if I had some connections, was high up in the pecking order and felt that no others would want to take me on, taking bitcoins and cash from Karpeles wouldn't be that hard. So I might well have had a chat with him and made some plans.

I tell you what, if Karpeles ends up looking at a long sentence because it is discovered that he stole, he will play this card. Just watch him.

Obviously I have no evidence whatsoever for anything written above (apart from the comment about missing Silk Road).
716  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Where's the support for MtGox? on: March 04, 2014, 08:42:25 PM
Until Mark starts being honest he deserves no support from anyone, not even his mother!

All the statements so far have evasive and deceitful. The crap written on mtgox.com today still blames a bug with Bitcoin for all their problems FFS! His new piece of bullshit is that he only noticed millions of dollars was missing from gox bank accounts on Feb 24, the day gox stopped trading. I suppose now he's started to lie he can't go back. The lie needs to keep getting bigger and bigger.

Then expect another exchange to be hacked by central governments and another media blast at Bitcoin very soon.

4...3....2.....1.Boom

Sorry to quote myself but most comments here are from fucktards who only blindly emotionally see their own personal situation.

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/mar/04/bitcoin-bank-flexcoin-closes-after-hack-attack

BOOM!! That will give the media at least a fortnight of material, everyone get onboard the destroy Bitcoin reputation train Chooooo Choooo!!!

Cryptsy better watch out...

The media is the least of the bitcoin community's problems. The only problem is that a fat, greasy piece of shite just stole, or was complicit in the theft of over half a billion dollars worth of currency.

No need to wag fingers at the media or indeed the public, banks, government or any other group really (okay, maybe the BTC Foundation just a bit)

The damage to bitcoin always comes from within.
717  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Gox collapse due (in part) to neglect of Bitcoin Foundation Board? on: March 04, 2014, 10:23:23 AM
I blame the BTC Foundation in part for the Gox fiasco. Any other body making similar claims regarding representation of the people and the good of the currency and industry would have been on Gox like a tonne of bricks. But these useless morons were too close to Gox.

The Foundation said virtually nothing during the whole time. It has said virtually nothing since. So what is the point of it? If it cannot act or at least be shown to be deeply worried about the biggest BTC robbery ever, one worth $500m, and continues to make inane tweets about a new BTC merchant in town X, or some other triviality, then fuck it.

The website is hardly updated, and the forums are dead, with the same 10 faces posting crap saying stuff like "nobody really knows", etc.

To fair to Jon Matonis, I got the feeling he wanted to say something on his Twitter but held back (I had a couple of short encounters with him). I guess the one and only rebuke Gox got was about the malleability thing, and even then the Foundation did not take an official position, it just reported it was contested as an issue.

It's rotten to the core, institutionally dysfunctional and needs disbanding or overhauling.
718  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mtgox asked to verify.. on: March 04, 2014, 10:05:42 AM
Just shows how fucking useless the big lump of lard is .... but it is difficult to lose a domain when it is for a big business even if you do forget to renew. You're just given it back when you can be arsed reapplying.
719  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Gox's debt on: March 03, 2014, 06:49:23 PM
Looks like Karpeles' liabilities are increasing. A $100 increase on BTC today.

So, 100 x 750,000 = $75,000,000
+ $476,251,281.47

Total: $551,251,281.47

(assuming I was right in the first place)

GO >>>>>>> BTC >>>>>>>

720  Economy / Service Discussion / Gox's debt on: March 03, 2014, 03:06:47 PM
Just wondering if people know the extent of the debt.

As of now, the liabilities of MtGox Co., Ltd exceed its assets and its financial situation is as follows:

Total amount of assets    3,841,866,163
Total amount of current liabilities  6,501,119,371

Am I correct in believing this is just assets and liabilities in Yen?

Therefore,

Gox owes 2,659,253,208 ($26,251,281.47) in cash
+ Gox owes 750,000 in BTC (estimate that at $450,000,000)

Total converted to dollars: $476,251,281.47

It sounds an insane amount. I thought the figures on the website were in dollars but I notice there is no mention of the currency, just the figures. So I assume we're in Yen territory (or Gox is really screwed!)

Am I right, Gox owes $476,251,281.47 (taking into account the BTC debt which of course it will try and wriggle out of placing the value on it that I have just done (in truth it should be more given they locked coins in when BTC was at $1000)).

Apologies if I'm way out, but there seems to be conflicting reports from the media.
