A duck walks into a bar and says to the bartender, "Got any oranges?"

Bartender says, "No, and I don't serve ducks. Get the hell out of my bar."

Next day, the duck comes in again. "Got any oranges?"

Bartender, face getting red, says "No, I told you yesterday I don't have any oranges, and I told you to get out of my bar. Get out and stay out!"

Of course, the duck comes back in the next day and asks the bartender, "Got any oranges?"

Bartender, fuming, says, "No! Get out now! And if you come into my bar one more time asking for oranges, I'm going to nail your bill to this bar!"

Next day, duck comes in and says, "Got any nails?"

"No."

"Got any oranges?"

can you tell me how much Paypal USD i would receive for $100 at $3.07/btc after Paypal fees?

There is no longer a charge for PayPal USD. When you send us bitcoins, you become our friend, and we send you a personal gift of PayPal USD, so you would receive 100 USD. Smiley
529  Economy / Goods / Re: Spend bitcoins anywhere PAYPAL is accepted on: December 11, 2011, 02:27:08 AM
Is this considered a Paypal Verified transaction?

I am a PayPal Verified, so I guess so.

The reason I am comfortable doing this is that I am not accepting paypal for bitcoins, but the other way around. I don't leave money in PayPal, so if they freeze my account, it just means I have to take this option back off Spend Bitcoins.

As always, only accept PayPal if you have satisfied yourself that you trust the sender not to chargeback (check my reputation at http://bitcoinfeedback.spendbitcoins.com, http://feedback.spendbitcoins.com & http://ebay.spendbitcoins.com to make sure you trust me.)

Happy spending!

530  Economy / Goods / Announcement: Newegg back on Spend Bitcoins (through paypal) on: December 11, 2011, 02:12:21 AM
We had a lot of trouble when we had Newegg on our site before, because they make it hard to purchase their gift codes with an overseas IP address.

But, now that we've added paypal as a cashout option, and Newegg accepts paypal, we've added Newegg back onto Spend Bitcoins!

We're very happy we've been able to do this, as Newegg was one of the most requested stores and there was a great sadness in the bitcoin universe when we had to remove it earlier this year.

Happy Christmas and happy spending!
--Jeremy

EDIT:
#Paypal disclaimer: If you choose Paypal USD, we will send USD to the email address you list. We pay by credit card, so your paypal account must be set to accept credit card payments and you pay any paypal fees incurred for the transaction, typically $0.30 + 2.9% + any fees for converting USD to your native currency, so you may want to round your order total up to cover these fees.
531  Economy / Goods / Spend bitcoins anywhere PAYPAL is accepted on: December 11, 2011, 02:08:33 AM
You can now spend bitcoins through http://spendbitcoins.com anywhere paypal is accepted.

All we ask is that you use our links to get to whatever site you are shopping on so that we get credit. If you are shopping on a site we haven't added yet, that's okay, just let us know on the order form so we can add it if possible.

And, if you just want to cash out, that's fine too. Just remember us next time you are shopping online (in other words, you can ALWAYS support us by shopping through our links, whether you are using our services for that transaction or not).

Happy Christmas & happy spending!

You can now exchange bitcoins for paypal at http://spendbitcoins.com.

Our only request is that IF you are shopping online, you use the affiliate links on our site to get to the shops you are shopping on, and that if we don't have them listed yet, you let us know in the order form so we can get them listed if possible.

If you just want to cash out, no problem. Just think of us next time you ARE shopping online, whether you are using our services for that purchase or not (in other words, you can ALWAYS support us by shopping through our links, you don't have to be using bitcoins to do so).

Happy Christmas & happy spending from the Spend Bitcoins team!

535  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ASIC's (Australian Securities and Investments Commission) policy on Tradehil on: December 03, 2011, 10:02:54 AM
Assuming this is legit (and if it's a troll it's very well written) this is:

1) Reassuring
2) The first government to officially say it's ok with Bitcoin / not a financial instrument and not regulated as far as I am aware of.

Truly interesting stuff. We've had a few people try to cause problems for us in Australia and it could be for a variety of reasons. One of the most frustrating parts about Bitcoin is the uncertainty. This clears a little bit up for now. If they decide to change their mind I hope they let everyone know in advance.

Thanks for the link.

Jered

P.S. can you put a smiley face or something like good news in the title, assumed it was another troll thread and almost didn't click it.

536  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ASIC's (Australian Securities and Investments Commission) policy on Tradehill on: December 03, 2011, 07:21:55 AM
Noticed this posted to SA board (which I read when I'm bored). Not sure if this has been posted here, or if Tradehill guys are aware:

A few months later, finally got a response from ASIC about tradehill
quote:

http://www.tradehill.com

I refer to your correspondence of 4 July 2011 in which you raise concerns about a foreign company called TradeHill, which operates the website http://www.tradehill.com where bitcoins can be exchanged for national currencies. I understand that you are specifically concerned that the company and the website are not subject to government regulation.

ASIC has extensively considered the issues raised in your correspondence and has decided that we will not take any further action in connection with your concerns at this stage.

Firstly, there is insufficient evidence before ASIC that TradeHill needs to be registered with us. It is noted that TradeHill is USA and Chilean based company, although it has some Australian users. Although a foreign company may not carry on a business in Australia unless it is registered under Div 2 of Pt 5B.2 of the Corporations Act 2001 ("the Act"), a company does not carry on a business here merely because it maintains a bank account in Australia or solicits or procures an order that becomes a binding contract in Australia.

ASIC has also considered whether TradeHill may be required to hold some type of licence issued and regulated by ASIC (such as an Australian Financial Services Licence or a Australian Market Licence) or be subject to consumer protection laws administered by this agency. It has been concluded that such rules are not applicable as TradeHill's business does not appear to involve financial products or services (as defined in the Act).

Although ASIC has decided not to pursue your concerns at this stage, we appreciate the time you have taken to alert us to this matter. Given bitcoins are a relatively new and novel technology it is possible that ASIC's position may be reviewed in the future. In addition, the information you have given us has been stored in our confidential internal database and will assist if we receive further similar reports.

You may wish to raise your concerns with other government agencies or your local Member of Parliament.

If you have any questions in relation to this email please contact me on

I want to buy x number of bitcoins. Can I get a discount?

Hi there,

Sorry, we aren't able to offer a further discount for buying bulk.

A (hopefully simple) explanation: By buying in bulk at our set rate you are essentially already getting a discount because the more you buy at an exchange (which is what we do to fulfill your order) the higher the price climbs, while with us the amount you buy does not drive the price up for your order (though it might drive the price up for the next guy Wink).

Hope that makes sense.
538  Economy / Goods / Australians: Pay electricity, other bills or your own bank account with bitcoins on: December 02, 2011, 03:13:15 AM
Aussies: Did you know that you can pay bills or deposit money into your own bank account using bitcoins?

All Australian miners should be paying their electricity bills with bitcoins Smiley.

Due to my nature, when I log onto BT, I first check to see what's happening in off-topic, hoping to find a thread or two to inject humor, thereby, hopefully, lightening the reader's day. Then head to Meta. From there, Discussion, of which, by that time, I'm in a more serious mode, but always on the lookout to inject humor, but being ultra careful to stay on-topic. Now that I've created and maintain Bitcoin100, I must be über-careful in my postings, for fear of alienating or losing pledgers.

On my recent trip to Northern Wisconsin, I snapped a photo of this sign. I don't mine, otherwise I would have found an opportunity to post this image in some mining thread. Enjoy!

Meh, this post seems just a tiny bit ON-topic. Wink
540  Economy / Goods / Re: no commission on amazon gift cards thanksgiving weekend on #btcbuy on: November 29, 2011, 12:41:16 AM
heh sorry guys...

Actually, I probably would use btcbuy myself if I wanted one of those other than Amazon - I just used to do these discount Amazon transactions a while back and haven't done any in a while.  I have a thread somewhere - feel free to bump/hijack that any time  Wink

BTC needs more services like this to keep it alive.
