I was hoping it would be much cheaper, I guess not.

If I send money via WU to you do I pay fees or do you pay them?

You do.

Most of the ways to cash out on our site are basically free, so you might want to look at some of the other ways and see if they suit you at all.
242  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buy bitcoins with cash worldwide on: May 05, 2012, 06:41:52 AM
Sorry, I'm completely lost on where to find the exchange rate...

Sorry, that's my fault. We are working on getting the WU calculator on our site, but that may be awhile and I just wanted to get the service started ASAP.

Go to westernunion.com.au and under "Calculate online money transfer" on the right, select Canada and type the amount of CAD. This will tell you the approximate fee and amount needed in AUD. So, I just tried it with 1000 CAD and it says the total with transfer including the fee would be 1110.26 AUD.

Then input this on our site to find out how many bitcoins you need to send. So at the moment in this example it would be 232.75 BTC. As I said, not the cheapest way to convert bitcoins, but I'm sure some will find it convenient.
243  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buy bitcoins with cash worldwide on: May 05, 2012, 05:59:46 AM
I noticed that your rate for USD and CAD are very different, despite the fact that CAD is worth more than USD.

If I send a WU transfer to myself in USD, will the agent be able to convert it back to CAD?

Hi there,

Sorry for the confusion, WU transfers are only quoted in AUD. Please go to http://westernunion.com.au to see how much that will be in CAD.

Thanks!
Jeremy
244  Economy / Currency exchange / Buy bitcoins with cash worldwide on: May 05, 2012, 02:27:41 AM
Spend Bitcoins has just added over 450,000 locations worldwide -- all Western Union agents -- to our deposit options on http://spendbitcoins.com/buy.

We realize that due to our added costs this is not even close to the cheapest way to buy bitcoins, so don't use this service if price is your number one concern. However, for millions of people worldwide, this option will be a much more convenient way of buying bitcoins. Not to mention our legendary customer service.

Just get a quote on our site and then walk into any Western Union agent worldwide and make a transfer to us. Within 12 hours of the funds being available to us (to allow for our sleeping time, etc) you will have bitcoins in your wallet! Pretty nifty, eh?

On a related note, you can also convert your bitcoins to cash YOU can pickup at any Western Union agent worldwide at http://spendbitcoins.com/convert. EDIT: Due to arbitrary low ATM withdrawal limits, we can't send enough to make converting bitcoins to Western Union worthwhile. If we work out a way, we'll let you know. Smiley

Have at it, people!

The Republican party will never do anything to legitimize Ron Paul.  Sorry Sad

The current crop? No. The new crop, who knows:

Don't worry, I'm sure power will corrupt all of these people. But it's still interesting.
247  Other / Meta / Re: Unjust scammer tag on: May 02, 2012, 09:02:32 PM
Why is this thread still going on? Everyone has made their opinion, and Bulan, what is the point of continuing this thread. The common opinion is that you are a scammer, or your actions weren't made with integrity, so I guess just grow to love your scammer tag, and let this thread go to rest?

Ironically, you just bumped it.

And made me do the same. Sad That's right, you MADE me do it. Smiley
248  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Mitt Romney(president) and Ron Paul (vp) on: April 30, 2012, 05:50:24 AM

I don't know much about Romney's stance on it to be honest. I want a president that isn't going to pussy out when we are threatened (Iran, NKorea). Nukes, mother fucking ninjas, whatever it takes to get the job done. Show them we don't fuck around.

'Merica, fuck yeah!

249  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Mitt Romney(president) and Ron Paul (vp) on: April 30, 2012, 05:32:55 AM
Other then military action, what does the president have immediate executive power over? I mean, I see presidents promise all sorts of shit that they can't even hold since they don't have control over it.

And wouldn't military action be one of the most important differences between these two men?
250  Other / Meta / Re: Unjust scammer tag on: April 29, 2012, 10:21:00 PM
I still don't understand why I cannot get my scammer avatar since I am the biggest scammer on these forums !

Cry

Because you are far from the biggest scammer on these forums. I'm sorry, no superlatives for you.
251  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Mitt Romney(president) and Ron Paul (vp) on: April 29, 2012, 10:54:51 AM
To me this is the perfect ticket.  With Ron Paul you gain the younger vote, the Texas south vote, and you also get a large percentage from the left.  The only demographic you hurt is women who don't like Ron Paul.

RP still attracts massive crowds, and if Paul gave a 10 minute warm-up and Romney at 20 minute crusher, poor ole Obama will be back in Hawaii  in no time.  Maybe the GOP, can sign off on it if RP agree to keep defense spending adjusted for inflation when he was in the service.

But what Ron Paul supporter is going to support Mitt Romney?
252  Economy / Economics / Re: Best investment you can make is debt. on: April 29, 2012, 10:46:37 AM
To prevent this all taxes other than defense and law should be voluntary.

And why shouldn't taxes on defense and law be voluntary? I don't agree with 99.9% of what the so-called "defense" forces do. Why should I be forced to pay for that? And I also would like to be able to choose my own arbiters and disagree with the majority of law.

All human interaction should be voluntary.
253  Economy / Economics / Re: How to make bitcoin be worth more? on: April 29, 2012, 10:38:56 AM
I really don't understand this very much.

Bitcoin is at $5 1 BTC. How did it get so low compared to the $20 I used to remember and how can we bring it up?

Thank you.

It's just an exchange rate. Do you say, "How to make the USD worth more?"

My view is you don't worry about how much it's worth and don't try to evangelize it to everybody. Just use it yourself and let it grow organically. Bitcoins are to money as the internet is to information. No one had to go around selling everyone on how great the internet was and just why they had to use it. People just slowly saw its potential and how it could make their lives better and while the first several years were just a bunch of geeks talking on message boards like this one and later a lot of people looking at porn, slowly the internet began to take over every aspect of our lives to the point where we can't imagine not having the encyclopaedia known as google in our pockets to look up practically any bit of information we need or want at any moment of the day or night without having to go to a library or lug out our decades old encyclopaedias and the yearly addenda.

All this to say... the very point of bitcoin is that it's not centrally controlled. So stop trying to control it and just let it be. Smiley

And are we allowed to post "bump" with no furthur comment?

Bumping is necessary, so I ignore these. Do not bump more than once a day or many times in a row, though.

I very occasionally feel the need to bump, but I don't just say 'bump' when I do so. I think of something intelligent enough to add that it makes sense that I'm posting again. I find 'bump' a bit annoying. But then, I wouldn't care enough to delete it, so... Wink
255  Other / Meta / Re: Unjust scammer tag on: April 29, 2012, 01:13:21 AM
Wow. This is pretty lame. I've double sent bitcoins to buyers a few times and when I've requested them back they've always returned them promptly. On the other side, I've had people send too many bitcoins to me and I've sent them right back when requested.

If a shopkeeper handed you too much change in the store by accident and then noticed it and asked for it back would you also then say "No! It was your fault! I'm not the scammer here you gave me too much money even though I never asked for it!" What if they set off the alarm and chased you as you ran out of the store, calling you a thief? Would you run and yell back, "It's your fault, I never asked for it"?

Thankfully, the vast majority of people I deal with are actually honest enough to refund mistaken transfers, despite what socialists and original sin Christians want us to believe about human nature.
256  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MTGOX - International Wire Transfer Has Not Arrived After 24 Days on: April 26, 2012, 04:57:18 PM
Competitive to a point .. when I buy BitCoin from Jeremy, it can cost near 15-20% (of the total transaction)compared to the same  transaction with Mt Gox. Having said that, Jeremy's service always works and I can rely on the time frames 100%.

15-20%? That would be bloody fantastic!

In reality, it's much less than that. Our AUD buy rate is set at 24h Mt Gox USD high*1.1 (10%). However, when you take slippage into account, it actually comes out to about 7%. For example, if you were to buy 1000 BTC right now at Mt Gox, according to http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/mtgoxUSD_depth.html, it would cost USD 5142.30 with slippage. According to xe.com, that's AUD 4962.36. Buy on http://spendbitcoins.com right now, and it would cost you AUD 5335.00.  That's a difference of 372.64, or 7.5%. Then subtract wire fees and foreign exchange fees, and at the moment it's actually less than 7%.

Not sure where the 15-20% figure came from, but again, would love to make that much if the market would sustain it. Smiley -- Just kidding. Or AM I? muhahaha

Hey Jeremy - that was a one off time, which actually prompted me to move. In retrospect, it was probably due to me being on the tail end of BTC moving the wrong way in the market overnight ... it was substantial though and even at 7.5%, that's 5% difference to Mt Gox roughly ... Sad

Grey

Totally understandable. Our buying service is not the cheapest, and therefore if price is your number one concern, you should not do your buying through us.

Our selling/spending service, on the other hand, IS the cheapest, so do cashout through us. Smiley

258  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: BitPiggy - bank account locked (temporarily) - orders are being held up on: April 26, 2012, 09:20:01 AM
Hi,

Current orders are being held up while our bank goes through the motions of investigating stolen funds sent our way. Apparently a customer on our site paid for orders via someone's hacked bank account. As a result our bank (UBank) has locked our account.

The breakdown of the situation is this:
- BitPiggy itself or our data was not hacked/stolen in any way.
- Current pending orders cannot be processed until our account is unlocked, as we cannot see who has paid (buy orders), nor send money out (sell orders). Besides that, the orders themselves should be fine, e.g. no data or money has been lost.
- We have turned off accepting of new orders until this is resolved.

In the meantime, we are talking to UBank to get the block lifted. They had originally assured us that this was being done, but has not occurred yet.

We will keep you posted, and our sincere apologies for the delay.

~Mat

Mat, that really sucks. You might want to consider opening accounts at brick and mortar banks like we have and accepting cash only. It's the only way I could figure to avoid this.

260  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What to do when MTGOX gets shut down ? Are we ready for coincalypse ? on: April 25, 2012, 05:34:39 AM
The thing is, I and others trade on MtGox because they have the best liquidity, because I can trade large quantities without much slippage there. It’s a natural monopoly, and the MtGox market itself is so small and illiquid that it can hardly be justified retracting volume from it.

If you want to trade out of bitcoins, you can do so at exact Mt Gox current rate with NO slippage and just a $15 wire fee direct to your bank account using the wire option at http://spendbitcoins.com/convert.

This obviously does not work for day trading, but it is a good alternative for exchanging bitcoins (if I do say so myself--well, other say so as well: http://spendbitcoins.com/testimonials). Smiley
