2381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin Andresen Proposes Bitcoin Hard Fork to Address Network Scalability on: October 11, 2014, 01:11:20 AM
I'm no protocol know-it-all, but wouldn't increasing the maximum block size increase the number of "no fee" transactions?  As the block reward drops, the protocol relies on those fees to keep miners interested.
Why do people say things like this as if the miners are helpless pawns, unable to decide what goes into their blocks or not?

Serious question.

Because it's easier for people to conceptualize miners as automatons. Them having their own volition and responding to incentives complicates the mechanistic view people tend to take on this issue. It's the same reason economics is so counterintuitive yet so many people have an opinion on it. "We'll just raise the minimum wage, then employers will pay the workers more."
The onus is on users to include fees, but they will have many options ranging from micropayments to discounted subscriber based transaction validation. Such services will form competitive coalitions. The miners that don't include transactions will simply be blocked from the subscribed whitelisted mining services. You will be able to make no fee transactions if you subscribe to these services. I suspect venders will have this option first, but consumers may opt for them as well. It will be their choice to become centralized selfish miners and thus have their blocks orphaned. After all, who would choose to reward selfish miners and risk their blockchain being forked?
2382  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: October 11, 2014, 12:51:36 AM
I'm only a casual observer of these TA discussions. The triangles and their sequences used are supposed to form patterns useful for predicting changes in price. Nobody ever makes predictions about volatility. I don't understand why they use extreme ranges as anchor points for TA lines. They are statistically insignificant. These extreme points are insignificant because they can be easily affected by individuals rather than market trends. Candles use volume distribution. Using volume distribution as weight for determining anchor points would at least make TA seem more like a statistical science. If they are going to use extreme points, they should be treated as a separate predictive factor to reflect reactivity. Instead, they seem to use the extremes of the candles over long periods of time which would heavily weight the most insignificant market activity for the predictive model.

On a different note, are there charts anywhere that analyze news, sentiment, and transaction phenomena?

Also, do you shield your mobile phone? You can be tracked by Bluetooth/WiFi/cellular.
It will be interesting to see how quickly marketers pressure mycelium to either get their real identity or remove the ability for multiple identities in a card like how google is trying to clean out the pseudonym's from its database and "encourage" users to use their real identities.

They could offer discounts to people that use a "signing" address from their wallet. That may be a "feature" to be added for those that want it. You would be surprised what people would do to save a few bucks.

What about Filipino girls? What do you think?
They are the very definition of women, but you have to go to the Philippines.

Coinbase wouldn't let me buy today. They claimed that they had sold their daily limit. That means silicone Valley is buying.

Choo choo.

Where does coinbase get their coins? Directly from miners? Or do they buy from an exchange?

They get most of them from customers selling (some of which are miners), but when they need extra liquidity, it is rumored they buy on Bitstamp.
Keep trying. Sometimes it just says that.

The colored coins (including xcp created) will soon fill the charts. 2015 will be the year of colored coins.

For most people litecoin was something to do with their GPUs when Bitcoin mining went to ASICs. Coins that use them are scavengers. Litecoin is the coyote, Doge is the vulture, the rest are vermin, insects, and bacteria.

At this point ASIC miners have dominated scrypt. You can't mine litecoin or dogecoin with a GPU miner anymore the same way you can't mine bitcoin with them.
Ah that's right. The broken promises of scrypt.

I'd just add that it's a shame that it's called "feminISM" - any "-ism" implies ideology and dogma. I'd rather call it "being respectful of everyone and their individuality" but that doesn't market very well, does it? Nowadays we end up in a situation where often men can't be considered victims of sexism, sort of like white people can't be victims of racism. It's bullshit, but bullshit makes the flowers grow...

Feminism comes with a lot of baggage due to the bad seeds in the group ruining it for the ones who just want simple equality and respect. Misandrists in feminist clothing, women who think it's fine when men are sexualized (or just outright don't think men can be sexualized) but hate it when women are, and those who act like women who enjoy wearing revealing outfits are cheapening themselves immediately come to mind.
There's no money in being respectful. Markets need problems they can solve with products. Fashion, makeup, and entertainment create and feed into the feedback loop. Without money, there would be no markets for such tactics.
2393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The time of Dogecoin is nigh on: October 10, 2014, 07:49:04 AM
For a shitcoin Dogecoin is doing quite well. IMO this coin has only one advantage and that is good marketing.
With hipsters and appleFanboyz, nowadays image is better than function.

Some points I noticed

Dogecoin is #5 on coinmarketcap vs Litecoin. Litecoin is 5x higher.
Dogecoin Hashrate 903 GH/s vs Litecoin 1.15 TH/s. Litecoin is 20% higher.
Dogecoin is 9% less profitable to mine than LTC.
etc...

And....

This thread should be in "Alternate Cryptocurrencies"....

Dogecoin is actually merge mined with litecoin. So anyone mining scrypt for just litecoin, will be missing out if they are not merge mining for doge.
Yeah litecoin's price is 5x higher, which shouldnt be the case anymore seeing as how our community is stronger, and our network is stronger than litecoin's (we can merge mine with any scrypt coin, they cant (unless they hard fork, which will be difficult for them to do).

I posted this thread here because its a speculative thread, and my target audience is this group "speculation," not the yik yak of a million other alt coins talking about non-speculative topics.

Dogecoin has a strong community that's for sure Smiley

Ok so merge-mining is a plus point...  If I am correct this means that

You believe: People want Dogecoin, and mining LTC is an added bonus.
Maybe the world believes: Dogecoin is a bonus system for mining LTC so while it's around I will mine LTC through Dogecoin until it is worth shit.

If the second applies Dogecoin will forever be bound to the LTC and breaking loose will be a problem.

For most people litecoin was something to do with their GPUs when Bitcoin mining went to ASICs. Coins that use them are scavengers. Litecoin is the coyote, Doge is the vulture, the rest are vermin, insects, and bacteria.
2394  Other / Off-topic / Re: TV Series Recommendations... on: October 10, 2014, 07:35:35 AM
surly dont watch the strain! this is pure shit

Yup, I still watch it but yeah its crap. So dumb and drawn out too.

The only good show that has come on in the past few years has been Game of Thrones. Nothing else really caught me.
The Strain has proven to be a great disappointment for me too and I wouldn't recommend it, nonetheless I'm still watching it. Game of Thrones is EPIC! I've started watching Gotham and it seems ok. I plan on checking out House of Cards and Homeland soon.

I'm not too into shows that have monsters, creatures, or vampires....so I  don't really think I will be into the Strain...

The creator of American Horror Story, is coming out with a new mini series that is kind of like True Detectives.   I think it is called American Detective Story, or something like that.   It is supposed to be based on the OJ Simpson trial.   I think that will end up being a good show.

I like the idea of mini series, so that the show doesn't get drawn out far too long like most shows nowadays...
Good. We need a new comedy.

2397  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cruise ship? on: October 10, 2014, 05:38:43 AM
Just tell me how big the ship has to be and how many days you want to sail!

Also since it will be a BTC ship internet will be included in the price!

Let's book a boat let's book a boat lets book a boat yey ahoooooy Smiley
Nah, I know a lot of organising has to go into this BEFORE booking the boat!
The ship has to be BIG, I'm thinking at least one indoor pool, tennis court...mini golf would help...

for this you need at least 100 "high rollers" and 200-300 budget travelers

high rollers = people who will spend around 10-15BTC/day
budget = people who will spend around 1-3BTC/day

no tickets ..... as it will be hilarious to tell some people that they have to pay 39BTC to board the ship and then ask them for more money ...

and to make it all inclusive you will have to charge them all with 50 BTC at least ... how many people you know will pay 50 BTC to get on this ship?

Hold on a second, what? There are cruise ships going for $300 for 3 nights, all inclusive, that's only 1 btc atm.

For me that thing sounded like you want the full boat for yourself Smiley that's what I've calculated to a ship with  a capacity of about 249 persons

And that ship is ready to server immediately!!!

Otherwise I can get you a Catamaran or a Gulet at a much lower price Smiley

What location?

What location what?

Where I can get the Catamaran/Gulet/Yacht ? In any port! But it would be nicer if you all gather in the same port so I can pick you all up at the same time!
And we can make the a trip for a few days and then slowly leave everyone of you to the nearest port
You're telling me you can get these vessels to any port world wide? That seems like you have quite the connections or work with a world wide sailing company.
Wow! You know everything about the yacht industry! You must be Richard Branson!
