561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. MANDATORY UPDATE! on: March 30, 2014, 10:10:42 PM
definitly something is not right...

7 hours no block found, the blocks are all rejected, might be a bug with the PoS being modified or there is an attack on the network (but my guess is more a bug in the client)
562  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. MANDATORY UPDATE! on: March 30, 2014, 10:07:42 PM
yes

and 70 connections !

edit: yet another 3 blocks rejected
563  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. MANDATORY UPDATE! on: March 30, 2014, 10:01:59 PM
hum... I found 4 blocks ... all rejected!

Maybe it's not just that it's not moving, maybe something is off again

edit: I'm now at more than 10 blocks rejected. makes no sense. .11 diff I am spending 12 MH/s on this... it can't be right
564  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. MANDATORY UPDATE! on: March 30, 2014, 02:25:29 PM
Hey guys,

I've got this reply from Amazonia imports:

Thank you for your enquiry.

I'm happy to accept FAC if you can get it on exchanges with a more robust
market, such as mintpal, cryptorush, cryptsy, etc. My concern is being
able to determine an exchange rate that is reasonable for both parties in
a transaction. When coinpayments.net gets back up, it's easier if you
incorporated with them as it streamlines the checkout, no need for me to
provide a quote.

However I am willing to provide a quote for customers once the buy sell
spread gets closer and the market is stronger for your coin.

Best regards,
Dave

Nice Grin

Ok, added a few neat functions to the blockchain explorer.

Last traded BTC/USD price
Last traded HBN/BTC price
BTC Value (Rich list)
USD Value (Rich list)
List of current active connections to nodes the block explorer is connected to (http://hbn.blockx.info/connected-nodes)

Let me know what you think

EDIT:

I've just seen Busoni's post above, he really is a top bloke and deserves some luck after recent problems.

+1, Kudos to Busoni!

Hi OP

Really enjoying this thread so far.

Question: I've tried the first 3 pools on the HBN site for farming. So far they have been rather unreliable. Any suggestions?

why are you getting issues ?

you are refering to http://hobonickels.info/pools.html right?

I've been using scrypt.io for quite some time without any major issues. Before that I used theblocksfactory.
569  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HBN Investment Journal - 2% returns every ten days - 80,000+ HBN Porfolio on: March 28, 2014, 06:14:08 PM
ok i got this i think.
So the fact that i would be waiting longer for my 1 hbn block will be compensated by the time it takes to stake. Over a large period of time, having a big/small block doesn't matter because the stakes will increase/decrease accordingly.
Did i understand it right?
Also combining blocks might be a good idea then if i want to stake more often (to compound interest)
How many hbn would be needed to mint 1 hbn a day?

You got it.

you would need about 500 HBN to get 1 per day

How to upgrade wallet in Ubuntu? Just build it again?

yep, do a pull from git
Code:
git pull https://github.com/visbtc/fair-coin.git
(stop your current wallet) go to src folder, build again and restart the faircoind with -rescan option... should all be ok. (remember to backup current folder, especially the wallet.dat files)

How do I tell if I've updated my wallet correctly?

do a getinfo to see if you have latest version.

the correct protocol version shoud be 80001

Code:
{
    "version" : "v0.9.0.1-gdf9d55a-beta",
    "protocolversion" : 80001,
    "walletversion" : 60000,

does a 30 day block automatically stake?
so if i keep my wallet open all night lonng i increase my chances to stake?
what if i leae it closed for 45 days and open to sync?

it doesn't automatically stake after 30 days. At 30 days, the coin age (#coins * #days) is at it's max.

So if you open at 30 days, 45, 90 days or more.   there's no additional benefits to wait longer. you have the same coin age.

Like Tranz said, PoS is just like PoW in that sense of competing to solve a block AND luck.  The "weight" factor is used to discriminate younger blocks from older ones... but size does matter also (in the weight formula), so a small block will eventually stake, but it could take longer since their max weight is limited by their size.

You also have to understand how PoS works.

There is this "splitting" of the block that goes on when it stakes... so, even if a block of 100 HBN will likely stake before a block of 10 HBN, when that block of 100 HBN does stakes, it becomes 2 blocks of ~ 51HBN each.

So, over time (over 3-4 successful stake - 30-40 days) the original 100 HBN block will be just about the same size then that 10 HBN block.... but that 10 HBN block will have more weight because it's been sitting there for 30-40 days, so it will be closer to stake than those newly minted smaller blocks.

I believe the splitting was though of to
a) level out "big" stake holder with "small" ones
b) Secure the network since each successful PoS stakes creates a new block on the chain, the more blocks available for stake, the more secure the network will be against 51% PoW attacks since PoW and PoS are competing one another.

Another thing to understand about PoS "interest" is that it's 100% per year but each 10 days, you get a "chance" to be rewarded a part of that 100%.

Example: 365 days / 10 days (minimum wait period) = 36.5
So you have ~36.5 staking period in 1 year.
100% / 36.5 = 2.74%

So every 10 days, you get ~2.74% (this varies as it's also based on network parameters... I don't know all of them) return on your coins.

But what happens when it takes longer to successfully stake... well basically, that 2.74% will be bigger.  Just for an example, if it take 100 days instead of 10 days, then you could expect ~27.4% return on that same block.

So you are still rewarded for waiting longer.  You will lose the "compound" effect of staking more quickly but you still get a nice reward that compensate for the longer time it took to get your stake.

hope this clarifies things for everyone.
PoS is a complexe concept but a pretty cool one IMHO Grin

yes, but how will the lost coins be handeled?? i mean i bought 192 or 193 000 faircoins at a tja, 2x lower price than usual. i could regularly buy faircoins for .400 and sell for .800 literally in 24 hours. thats how i made some money, and my faircoins seems to be the fake ones traded at BTC-E wich allowed this guy to trade and they never stopped their transactions in time...... i lost my bitcoins in order to buy fake 193 000 faircoins. will i get the faircoins and or will i get the bitcoins i used to buy them with back? how will this be handeled.. alot of people got scammed today and it will result in 1-10 bitcoins total. (actually not very much compared to other cases) but i just read poloniex had got hacked around 12% of their coins once by a hacker and lost money worth 50 000 dollars. atleast they stopped the FAC transactions early. but this guy has been doing this for long time i notice and he has alot of bitcoins using hidden IP adress so at last adress its just ip 0.0.0 with 10-50 btc in each wallet. just a hdd taken out of computer when done and puts it somewhere safe.

also the coins needed 3-6 confirmations before it was confirmed in wallet and other websites, how did the guy manage to get 50 million of them and then confirm all of them? if the http://fac.blockx.info/get/chain/FairCoin?count=100&hi=2241

tells all money transacted between everyone but i dont see any high numbers or very close to 50 million in total annyway. and or on rich list cause this guy sended in faircoins from 200 000 to 500 000 each in one send and people bought it. how did that get confirmed when it was not even on rich list wich means it should not have been confirmed....

here is the btc adress that the guy i bought 193 000 bitcoins from. i can confirm the other transactions there is me. u can follow the first transaction sent and so on, u end up in a place with 500 bitcoins recieved in total and then into one adress each with unknown IP. just goto blockchain.com and check the adress.

1DsDCx65NXSNYmPfnb2jhP6JFtKyCfQNfP

well I'm not sure I get your question clearly but here it goes.

You said you're the owner of that address http://fac.blockx.info/get/address/fUvyHo21Mbb1zG75hd1S1TgKhYLK5z6xX1

well that balance is correct since the block explorer is running on the correct chain and has been rescanned.

if you bought FAC on the exchange that were from the forked chain, then when the exchange is going to rescan their database with new client, it's going to remove any transaction made from that bad fork.  So if you bought coins from that bad source, you're likely to lose your coins AND the BTC. since those BTC left the exchange before they were stopped.

If those coins came from the good chain, I believe you are good since they will still be there after the rescan of database.

well you won't see the 50 millions since those were on the bad chain.

I hope you didn't/not going to lose too much  Sad

can someone please update the mac wallet once it is closed by the red circle not quitting the wallet it won't come up unless you quit it and restart it

it should have a show/hide when you right click on the wallet icon to bring it up like the rest of the mac wallets.

Thanks

ryan. I will have a look as soon as I can. I think unick was trying to get it compiled for OSX, does anyone have a good set of instructions?

Yep, I'm going to dig into that real soon.  So the Mac Wallet can benefit from the latest enhancements made to the client.

Also want to point out that HBN is on the voting list @ MintPal.

https://www.mintpal.com/voting

I think it would be nice if we could get listed there.  Having another exchange where there is decent volume could only benefit the coin.  Plus the episode where cryptsy didn't update their client is just frustrating when you are ready to put some stakes for sale... I know it's being traded on Atomic Trade but the volume is just too low.

This might be a long shot since the coins getting listed have like 80k + votes but hey, if we vote we will get there sometime Smiley

so check it out if you think HBN should be on MintPal
574  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. MANDATORY UPDATE! on: March 28, 2014, 05:25:11 AM
unick are you sure?

No... but it definitly looks like someone just moved coins from one address to another, maybe that person just changed wallets or computers or whatever...

Forks are bad but this kind of transactions are common, check back a few hundred blocks and you'll see it's pretty standard to see that kind of money moving around

You'd have to know where that address is from to become suspicious of anything

75k faircoins out of the block. what the hell is going on. it happends now again. they are getting hacked again. its not SAFE TO TRADE COINS, LEAVE THEM IN WALLETS. waow

32 min ago on the newest block*

Well this looks to me like a normal transaction... that block hold 75k worht of FAC in 5 transactions. it doesn't necessarily means someone is being hacked.

the 75k is total sum of what is being moved on the block chain
576  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. MANDATORY UPDATE! on: March 28, 2014, 04:31:20 AM
how many coins per block?

PoW = 0.0001 / block
577  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. MANDATORY UPDATE! on: March 28, 2014, 04:25:16 AM
all right. Update done and http://fac.blockx.info/ is back on the right fork.

Everything seems normal.

Good job dev Smiley

this coin has seen too many ups and downs  Tongue

No too much at all. But dump by 60000 % in only one hour may be a record.

 Shocked
579  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. New exchanges added! on: March 27, 2014, 08:12:28 PM
How can I know when can I safely buy FAC on nxt-e.com ? There is no info from nxt-e owner etc.

first dev as to put new client out with the fix (checkpoint) in. Then you, the exchange and everyone will need to update their client to the latest version, sync back and voilą.

You should talk to the admin of nxt-e to get the story straight on wether they updated or not.

At this point nothing has been fixed so waiting is the only thing to do

The fate of Faircoin is really hard. One uncertain factor may be the nonactive dev.
The distribution was chunk for several days.
And now, before launching on Mintpal, there is fork problem.

Life is rough, lol

It's true there's been big UPs and DOWNs until now... we'll see what the future holds.

@pabloangello, I hear you. It's pretty shady and concerning when an exchange don't post any updates.  In an ideal world, people responsible for an exchange's transfers out should be on watch 24/7 ... Unfortinatly that's not the case, thus why greedy hackers take advantage of that reality.

Again... life is rough and wild  Wink
580  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. New exchanges added! on: March 27, 2014, 08:05:06 PM
I think this shows us how fragile the launch of a coin is... while I like the concept of FAC, I think giving no rewards to mining AND having 30 days to PoS rewards is just an eternity and opens the door wide open to what we are seing right now.

Just food for thoughts
