well as long as he stays there we'll be fine .. but as soon as he's going to pull back ... we're going to have to wait a looong time :p

Just pointed 4.2 MH/s to get us out of Fakeshadow's mess.

Also mined at 1.2 MH/s for over 48 hours.

Tips are welcome Smiley

thanks... much appreciated Smiley

Make sure to ask a bounty from the dev. I'm sure he'll give you some.

you need to pm him ?

Yes you need to PM him. Explain what you did (blockchain explorer) and what you could expect as a reward for your work.

If you don't get at least 3000 FAC then the dev is just greedy. Your explorer is amazing, nuff said

all right, thx... sent a msg

Sellers are lowballing their FAC. We're down to 5000 satoshi already?? 500 FAC = 0.02BTC

There's no buy support. Why even try?

I don't get it either... so eager to sell and hurting the coin with low prices... who is nxt-e anyways !

can't we at least wait for the distribution to be over and aim for an exchange with some volume on it !?!

Hey guys, just a reminder.

Tips are always welcome  Cheesy

Been supporting the network with about 1.2 MH/s for 2 days and setup a nice block explorer to monitor the blockchain

Only received 10 FAC so far (thanks to the donator)... so this is just a friendly bump  Grin

650  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HBN Investment Journal - 2% returns every ten days - 80,000+ HBN Porfolio on: March 12, 2014, 04:30:39 AM
Hey tokyoghetto, Thanks for this journal, its definitely piqued my interest. Been a lurker here for a short while and I finally have an unanswered question!

I still dont get how holding coins to generate interest encourages the use of the coin. Why should people adopt a PoS coin? What value does it give people, not investors? I mean, I can have all these coins, but if no ones wants them because they arent able to buy stuff with them whats the point?

I feel a lot of alt coins will have this problem in the future. Its too fresh a market right now for the top choices to emerge.

Thanks

This is a good question.

My simple answer would be.  PoS give you the ability to generate returns with virtually no hardware for mining.  So if you compare the investment made in your HBN for instance VS the investment made on a Mining rig, well the latter will depreciate and cost a lot to generate some BTC (electricity, maintenance, failure, blablabla). On the other hand PoS cost no electricity and you can mine it from your laptop... And can make an interesting amount of BTC for your buck.  Sure the investment is risky and could drop in price on the market... But as long as you hold, the price will rise up and then you could sell... That's why the community behind and the developement (core dev and promotion) of the coin is so important. Like tokyo said, HBN is pretty stable while other coins are droping in value... Do I need to say more?

Back to the PoS mining vs PoW mining

at current market price, tokyo's portfolio is valued at 14.82245768 BTC (9 464$ @ 638.50 USD/BTC)

that same portfolio generates ~1800 HBN / 10 days
this 1800HBN at current market price are worth : 0.29555267 BTC
it's about the equivalent of a 4 MH/s rig.

If you ask me, that's pretty damn cool Smiley
Plus if you consider that HBN is undervalued or has seen higher prices... that same 1800 HBN / 10 days could be worth much more when the market picks up again... This is why I think he wants to hold them a bit longer  Wink

So why people would want to spend it? I don't know ... but I know why I would want to buy some more  Grin

I tweaked the block explorer a bit more...

Now we see the time since last block instead of the time it was found (I could never read those time in UTC anyways!  aways got confused  Wink )

check it out:

http://162.243.224.140:1080/

Very nice.  Easy to read, which helps.

I'm also glad to be able to see the blocks, since I'm still waiting for my FAC.  LOL

LOL that's why it's there for ... so we can easily check on the distribution process.

I also made it responsive for mobile viewing...

If I get bounty I might buy a domain name so it's easier to access than thru the IP address

and thats my problem^^ LOL there was no link to the wallet in the fucking op.

I was there for the launch and like you, I didn't see a link for the windows wallet in the op.

... so I scrolled up, clicked on the link to the website and downloaded the wallet from there.

Total cost to me:  1.5 seconds and the energy to click twice.

Not even worth the fuss.  This is a non-issue.

I just can't believe we're back to this fair/unfair discussion.

Just because YOU (who ever the hat fits) missed it/couldn't get it to work/etc. doesn't make it unfair!

There was over 20k unique hits on the site for the launch... How is it unfair again?

I did some work on the design to make it easier to read and make it mobile responsive...

What do you guys think about it?

About the 10 minutes block... like I said above, in the context of a brick and mortar business, I can think of many situations where this could be a deal breaker.  True, Bitcoin is the only one gaining use in the mainstream... but I still think the adoption rate is slowed down by this factor alone.  On the other hand, a lot of use of the bitcoin don't need fast transaction time.  If we think back at one of the original idea WHY bitcoin was created was to transfer money... This is not a commercial transaction rather a financial transaction... I find it perfectly fine having to wait ~1 hour to get my money cleared. It still is the fasted way to wire money anywhere in the world AND the cheapest. I think you get the point.

and what about this PoS block minimizing time to 5 minutes? I didn't look at the code on that but from experience on other coins... PoS competes against PoW so the network produce 1 block for the given target... So here the PoS block would still be 10 minutes apart.

can anyone shed some light on this ? Is this what is supposed to happen to FairCoin?

faircoin should behave like novacoin
so i guess they're competing

but the greater question is that of the block times
even aurora coin which includes pretty much all the lessons learned, uses a 10 minutes block time
and there is no plan to reduce bitcoin block times

i'm not sure about how this is handled and can't answer your questions
but you seem to be in disagreement with the core developers in the crypto world

Well it's a big statement to say that I disagree with the devs in the crypto world... if there is both, long and short, block times... it's because different devs seems to think differently. That being said, I believe that depending on the application, block time is a valid concern.  In the commercial business arena, I stand by my opinion that a shorter block time is better. From a financial stand point, longer block time should be better.

Now the question is. what will FairCoin be used for?
657  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed COIN -Vote for us on exchanges! on: March 11, 2014, 03:40:02 PM
Well nice to see everyone chime in on this one  Wink

10 minutes block time is WAAAAAY to long.  On the "business" side of this coin, no merchant wants to wait 10 minutes to confirm any transactions. I think we need to change this to something between 30-90 seconds blocks. This could be a deal breaker and since we are at the beginning ... Forking this now would be natural and the right thing to do since the issue as already been pointed out.

The other thing I noticed is that the devs are too quiet in this forum and take too much time to react/respond/update.  The team might be too small unexperienced, if team there is.  But the beauty about OpenSource projects is just that.   OPEN!  So that's were the community should step in and contribute in their own way to help get this coin out there and make it a success. Some of us already have and I salute all of you Grin

I think your inputs valid and valued, so don't take this the wrong way, as some points I do disagree with Smiley

30-90 sec block times way too fast (yeah all the pump n dump scamcoins like the fast ones, but theres a scaming reasons/trick for that I wont get into), 10 min maybe too long but still I'm fine with that.
Think its way too early to consider a fork.

Also I think the dev been very responsive, especially consider the distribution task he is also on, just a little patience is needed by all, remember its only be alive a few short days, and the coins are free Smiley

Reply to others comment; I think the devs done the best job he can to have the coin as fair as possible, by no means an easy task (no crypto has achieved what the average person here would consider fair).

Even a perfect fair launch, fair distributions, in the long term will any successful crypto not end up in the same hands (if you can buy cryptos with fiat, they become just as fair as fiat).

Very interesting experiment here on many levels, help answers what happens to a blockchain when pow is finished? can a freely given coin become worth something? all 50 mil hit the market at once what will happen?.......we all have prediction and I think I know somewhat the answers but interesting to examine it live.

Well the reason I'm saying 30-90 seconds blocks is for ease of transactions.  And when I say 10 minute is too long, I have a specific scenario in my head.  Take any brick and mortar business... Take Starbuck for instance... would you think they'd consider taking payments via a network witch takes 10 minutes per confirmation and x confirmation to clear? The customer's latte would have time to become cold before the transaction is cleared!  Wink

I am not sure to get the scamming reasons for having a fast block or even how block speed relates to scamming?!? I know HoboNickels is one of the fastest PoW/PoS coin out there and it does pretty good no issues about scamming there...

About the dev... I support the good work they did and still doing... But I noticed some things that made me think that they were/are overwhelmed.  It is a pretty big task and if they do need help about anything on this launch... I think they should come forward. Transparancy goes many ways and it's not just about showing what your doing / it's being humble enough to ask for help in order to get the best out of anyone.  That being said it's a concern that I have and would hate to see this coin fail just for lack of support. Nothing against the devs.

I agree with you on the others points.   Fairness is a concept often misinterpreted.  If the rules are clear and anyone can participate with same level of difficulty then fair is just that... Even if some come on top, doesn't make it any less fairer.

And yes, this is an EXCELLENT experiment on many levels for this coin and future coins development.

Maybe i'm not getting something.

10 minutes blocks are good enough for bitcoin, peercoin, and lots of other coins, and bitcoin is the only 1 that's really being used as a currency outside our little bubble of crypto world
why would this be a deal breaker?
also, pos blocks will on average half that time to 5 minutes

vis is right,
You all forgot the POS blocks that minimize the time to 5 minutes.

Just my 2 FAC on price... and a few other things

Some people have said it, this coin was widely distributed... this is a good thing for the value of the coin.  The more people have it, the more rare it becomes, the higher the price IF demand is there.

I think 10K satoshis is IMHO a fair, minimum floor price.

I also believe we have a fair distribution (not perfect but better than A LOT of other coins out there) of the FAC wealth.  Sure some have more, but I think that if the highest/richest person right now (that we know of) as somewhere around 350K FAC (witch is less than 0.7%) it shouldn't be to much of an issue (he still had to put in over 30 hours of work to get to that not 30 hours of computer hashing away but of human work -- think about that).  So the average FAC holder has around 5K FAC (a loose interpretation of the stats the dev posted a few days back about their website analytics). If everyone holds on to their 5K because they want to maximise their profit, it will create rarity on the market and push prices up. It doesn't seem (yet) that we have a major player/whale that could dump this coin on the market and kill the prices. I am happy with that!

Another thing to keep in mind is that FAC has some PoS reward.  If PMC had a price of 50k+ satoshis (and currently around 35k satoshis) without PoS rewards... 10k satoshis for FAC might be a bit too low if you put that into the equation.

So if a wide/fair distribution has succeeded... what can make prices go up (beside speculation).  It's the real world use of this coin.  I think this is where this coin lacks for the moment.

We need merchants to accept this coin, promotions, games, an active reddit page, a forum on the official site, a wiki on the official site, etc.

This is where you and I (as a community of early adopters) can make a difference in the success/failure of the coin.

I keep reading shitcoin/to the moon comments, but in reality it's going to be shit or go to the moon ONLY if we abandon / support it has a community.

The 10K satoshis price can easily be 100K or more... Just look at Aurora.

So I took some time to put my thoughts out on this, because I think it's a step towards an active and healthful community.

I will finish with these CRUCIAL observations that I, among others, have said earlier.

10 minutes block time is WAAAAAY to long.  On the "business" side of this coin, no merchant wants to wait 10 minutes to confirm any transactions. This wont last if it rely only on the dev. They should come forward and tell us what they can and cannot do so we can take over, as a community, where they cannot offer support.

Furthermore, I see a lot of pushing to get this coin on the exchanges, and it scares me a bit.  While I thank those people for their efforts, we NEED to see more diverse kinds of promotions.

If you've read this far then please keep this conversation going and growing.

We had a good start and this far distribution is doing well... we can bring this coin to a brighter future if we decide to do so together.

 Wink

I generated about 20 tokens but only submitted one address from virtual machine and I don't remember that address any more.

So can I get one stake with this new address?

fSnHv3CKA8PphH96iWET8qZVz8aRBC9PUC

Thanks.

if you still have access to your wallet used to generate the address... try getaddressesbyaccount "" in the qt client console. you should see all generated address their and you can find yours... also once you get your coins from submitted shares... you'll see it appear in your wallet

i have only recieved 16000 coins. how long it takes when all the coins are delivered?

Dang, I've only got 1000.

I suggest you read a few pages back...

The op should be updated but it's not!

We currently have ~7000 transactions on the blockchain since the distribution started
so we could face a 10-15 days distribution period a current speed... patience boys
