721  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HBN Investment Journal - 2% returns every ten days - 80,000+ HBN Porfolio on: February 04, 2014, 05:18:11 AM
It's true that this conversation sheds light on the HBN and it's getting more attention. Witch is a good and bad thing depending on witch side of the fence you sit.  I personally sit on both side, and just like tokyoghetto I mine PoW and, while I believe that the increased mining power gives us a more secure network, it does give me less HBN/day.  Cry

But in the long run, I want that people know more about this coin and use it more, since it'll give it more value.

I follow this coin since last november and saw the price go from less than 2000 satoshis to over 15000 and back to 4000.  Same goes for network hash power.  This shows me that the potential is there and I agree with you tokyogettho on that.  This should be worth a lot more.

Good job on that transaction, 30K HBN is a nice block to have staking... let's see how it goes.

keep it up Smiley
722  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - 2% stake power! - Version 1.3 on: February 04, 2014, 04:57:55 AM
Hey Tranz, got some weird behavior with the Mac client.

I left the Mac client opened to let it stake.  It did but all blocks are orphaned?!? All without exception.. So I fire up my windows client... It stakes perfectly (and it looks like all those block that got orphaned on the Mac client)

It's the same physical machine, windows 7 in VirtualBox. Both v1.3 and the same wallet is used on both instance (actually a copy of the same wallet).
Also, I noted that I normally have less peer connections on the Mac client than on the Windows client

Do you know about this, what could be the problem? Any advice ?

Anybody else having issues staking on Mac?

Thanks

I have very little mac experiecne so I am not sure about the mac. Perhaps other Mac users can comment.  Which mac client did you use for 1.3? There are two on github. Compiled by different people. So I'd like get a base as to which is causing you issues.

I haven't even realized they were two different compile...

I think I used thise one(99% sure) : https://github.com/Tranz5/HoboNickels/releases/download/1.3.0.0/HoboNickels-Qt-1.3.0.0-Mac.dmg.zip

Meanwhile i am using the windows client for staking, let me know if you find any anomalies.

Thanks

my client says checkpoint too old.

i am using 1.3.0.0

should i be worried?

all my stakes get orphaned...
i am using mac client

It appears at least one of the mac clients is not working correctly. I didn't compile them nor have I used one. So please give the following information.

getinfo
getpeerinfo
getdifficutly
and which mac file you used the dmg or the other just .zip
and maybe the last few lines of the log file, especially if you just attempted stake.

If you are both using the dmg version. I am going to remove that version.

If one of you would be so kind as to attempt the other version. Which was compiled by Max, and which version 1.2 worked ok, that would be great to know if it is working. You may need to remove the blockchain files.

Also, be sure to save your wallets offline, and I would suggest doing a dumpwallet or usewallet walletname dumpwallet before you mess around too much.  So you have a txt of your private keys ready, should anything go awry.

I will be getting a mac computer in the future, but for now I am relying on the community to help with that.

ok here's the network info

For the log, it's been a few hours since the last stake and the log is full... if you tell me what you are looking for I will find you the lines you want to look at.

I can confirm 100% I used the dmg version (I saw you took it down already)

I can also confirm that this version (dmg) was used on another computer with yet another wallet (not my setup mac/virtualbox) and tonight that client also had an orphan PoS block.

So as I write this I am restarting the Mac client but with the zip version of the compile (witch is on github now) and I'll see if the orphan block will try to restake later this night or tomorrow and see if the PoS block gets accepted or rejected with that client and I'll keep you posted with that.

@tokyoghetto Thanks for your replies, it does clarify things for me Smiley

I am looking forward in reading your journal Cheesy
726  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HBN Investment Journal - 10%+ Returns - Steady Growth - 1st PoS Block Mined! on: January 22, 2014, 06:39:23 AM
@Tranz I am impress with the degree of inovation you bring to the cryptocurrency community.  It's refreshing from all those copy/pase alt coins! I agree with @tokyoghetto These are nice features. nice work and cool ideas... I need to learn how to use them though  Shocked

@tokyoghetto, Thanks for your reply, it makes perfect sense on the why you should sell.  But I still have a question on how you measure the profit in this perticular scenario of PoS.  So I'll jot down a theorical example.

Let's say I bought 1 BTC worth of HNB @ 5 000 satoshis (0,00005000 BTC/each)
***For the sake of this example, we will assume that the market price of HBN/BTC remains @ 5 000 satoshis and dont fluctuate***

I would now own 20 000 HNB.

In 10 days from now, I would stake 20 000 HNB @ 2% so I would now have gained an interest of 400 HBN.

Now, my question is this.

Is that a profit? can I say I am 400 HNB (or 0.02 BTC) "in profit"?

Or do I need to make 20 000 HBN / 1BTC (match my initial investment) and then, every additional HBN/BTC is profit ? what confuses me on how you look at this and calculate your profit is that it's interest.  I would be in profit if I sold my initial purchase at market price since I sold more then I bought but meanwhile I keep it, do you consider it as profit? What's your angle on that?

Hope I made this is clear enough Wink

And to answer your question, I am not looking to sell. I am looking to buy my self, I haven't reach my target yet!  And then, who knows what I'll do, sell or not to sell? that is the question!  Maybe I'll retire, buy a house near a beach and start surfing ... WHO KNOWS! Cheesy

cheers
727  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HBN Investment Journal - 10%+ Returns - Steady Growth - 1st PoS Block Mined! on: January 21, 2014, 08:54:19 AM
hey @tokyoghetto,

I stumbled upon your journal because I was wondering if the HBN was dying or it was still alive Smiley

You are right! Great dev team (I always see him/them post on the official thread)

So I guess the coin is not dead and I am pretty happy with that.

I had the same basic idea and line of thoughts that you had about HBN maybe around a month and a half (moderate net hash rate, nice 2% stake every 10 days, it got overlooked by the community etc) so I had the same basic idea of getting a nice amount of HBN and let them sit Smiley

But I am a rookie trader... so I am glad to follow this thread since I might get some nice nuggets that I could apply in my strategy.

I have about 20k HBN and I saw the price quadruple over the course of my initial purchase/minting.  I did not sell though. I do believe in the future of this coin, as long as there is a good marketing strategy behind it, which is VERY important and what makes a coin like DOGE coin so popular.  At some point, HBN will needs this publicity and attention.

I think what I want to say is keep posting your evolution, it will benefit the community in the long run.  People love the quick buck (I get that) but in the end, what comes in fast, can also go out fast.

So reading this (being a noob into trading) I feel like I did a good move.

Keep up the good work man  Grin

cheers

Oh and I'll even throw in a question for you.  how do you know when to sell?  what are/should be the basis of the decision to sell? (I guess profit but I'm looking at understanding how to mesure profit the "correct" way)

Thanks

The Mac client quits unexpectedly as soon as I focus (click) on the window.... any one else has same issue?

Don't have that problem here on my end, running on 10.9 Mavericks.
What OS X version are you on? What is your Console.app error output?

PM me and I'll help you fix it.

thanks for making me think about the log... I really tought it was a bug in the client... I had a version of Qt4 installed on mountain lion for testing (witch I forgot since I upgraged to mavericks, the app icon is not showing!)

So the client qt version was conflicting with the one i had installed. I uninstalled my dev version and voila!

thanks again  Grin

Can someone please explain while, during the solo mining, all my found blocks were paid out to an (for me) unknown giftcoin adress - an entirely different adress than my own wallet's adress?

At one point i had a couple of thousant coins, but they all dissapeared Sad

I am trying to figure out the same thing... the address is an internal wallet address (and it should be yours, I verified mine and I owned it) but i don't understand why the coins dissapear from the wallet !

Ok so basically, I don't have enauhg stake (greater than 1) so I get 0.  If I stake a bigger amount witch would result in a PoS > 0, then I should get the minted block... correct ?

Yes, so instead of having a 1 dmd input if you have say 100-1000 then you will actually get the stake > 0. Also you may want to keep wallet locked or stake generation turned off until it accumulates.

in that case is there something wrong?  I have (for a while now) over 200 DMD but still no stake...

what about locked wallet? (how do you do that?)
and since I have over 200DMD do I still have to turn off stake generation? (and if I do, how it's turned off, I don't see the command in the console)

thanks again
733  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Diamond DMD - new PoW/PoS coin | Super random blocks | Only 4.38 mil total on: December 13, 2013, 06:24:19 PM

What's that all about ?

The question mark is orphan blocks, but the rest is all mined block with 0.00 value. If I check transaction details, there is a debit of 0.00 and a net amount of a negative number (they are all different).  As this looks to be the PoS mining, why I get all these transactions with a 0 value? and I got a bunch more in my wallet.  It's like I never got to succefully PoS and it's been a few months now... is this normal behavior? if not what is wrong?

Thanks

I will look at code but these are PoS blocks and I believe DMD is coded so that if stake <1 then = 0. Like some other PoS coins. In PHS you actually always get a small amount if below 1.
But, as many p2pool users find out on other coins, you have to send in smaller transactions when you eventually move them. Here is an example of a user today with the small PoS :

Ok so basically, I don't have enauhg stake (greater than 1) so I get 0.  If I stake a bigger amount witch would result in a PoS > 0, then I should get the minted block... correct ?

What's that all about ?

The question mark is orphan blocks, but the rest is all mined block with 0.00 value. If I check transaction details, there is a debit of 0.00 and a net amount of a negative number (they are all different).  As this looks to be the PoS mining, why I get all these transactions with a 0 value? and I got a bunch more in my wallet.  It's like I never got to succefully PoS and it's been a few months now... is this normal behavior? if not what is wrong?

Thanks

I still have a concern about staking... Does the wallet need to be always open in order for the stake to cumulate ?  I left my wallet closed for one day an nothing was mined in PoS.  But I've just launched it over one hour ago and I already received a payment for PoS... I guess it needs to be opened but then again might just be coincidence! is the PoS tied to the address and is carried by the network or the wallet needs to be open in order to gain thru PoS.

Thanks

Yes the wallet must be opened for it to actively stake. Closing the client will not allow it to speak with the network.  It will allow the coins to age, and give you a better chance at stake once you open it, but nothing will happen until you are connected.

Remember you are in competition for stake, just like PoW, against the other nodes.

Ok thanks I understand better  Grin

Hey guys, I was wondering about the 2% stakes... I've had some HOBO in my wallet for over 10 days and didn't see any deposit for the 2%, how is the 2% working really, shouldn't I see some "stake" activity every 10 days ?

thanks for clarifying this out for me

As long as you haven't moved your coins they will stake. Give it a bit longer. Mine take between 10-12 days to stake. 10 days is the start of stake time. Can take as long as 30. Each day the coins weight is higher so it will have better chance of staking. But your % of stake will also increase, so really nothing is lost when it takes a bit longer.

All right, i'll still keep an eye on it... it's been 12 days since the first input so I guess it could be anytime now!

thanks for the quick response.

Another thing where could I read to learn more about the staking process ?

Have you moved coins out of your wallet?

yeah thanks for the google link :p

to answer your question, no I haven't move coins out ... as a matter of fact... not much after my last post, I got my first 5 HOBO in a PoS ... yeah !

thanks again for your input, much appreciated

This is the output

Code:
<module 'Abe.abe' from '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/Abe/abe.pyc'>

This means you are getting the previously installed version.  You want the one from from 'Abe/abe.py'.  Either install the new version (as root, python setup.py install) or set PYTHONPATH to the git clone directory (bitcoin-abe, not the Abe subdirectory).  Normally, sys.path starts with an empty string, so if you "cd" to the correct directory, Python should find the local modules.

that did it... I'm updating the chain so everything seems to run smooth... I'll keep you posted if I ever find out about what you were talking earlier.

thanks a bunch Smiley
