101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [RE-ANN] GrowthCoin PoW/PoS - 100% per year - Version 1.3.0.0 on: July 11, 2014, 11:15:26 PM

After all, this is Growthcoin, after all, it wouldn't be called that if it didn't have a large growth, now would it? Also have to keep up with PHS, HBN and CAP, otherwise it will be left to dry without anyone using, or buying it.

You are right about being growthcoin, I believe it should GROW but not only the supply, the value too Wink

speaking of PHS, HBN, CAP and others...

PHS has 50% rate
HBN has 100% rate
CAP has 200% rate
TEK has 400% 500% rate
and now HYP has 750% rate

with HBN at 100% and GRW at 100%, it's like we ride the same bus... so we could crank up the volume a tiny bit to 150% or be crazy and jump it to 1000% just for the sake of Grrrrowing Smiley

if we decide to go to 1000%, I think we should cap it in some way to keep the inflation at a minimum.

I'm not sure about 1000%, at least not at the stage that we are right now (meaning having already ~30 millions coins in circulation).  but then again it could be a fun thing to try!

Can someone upload an archive of the latest chain?

There you go, this is the blk0001.dat renamed to bootstrap.dat for convenience

http://grw.blockx.info/grw_bootstrap_20140711.zip

for anyone wanting to use this file, just copy it over into your datadir, and start your client. The client will read from this file before connecting to other nodes.  If you have a corrupted database this is a quick fix rather then redownloading the whole blockchain.

Just delete the blkindex.dat file and use this bootstrap.dat (or rename your own blk0001.dat file to bootstrap.dat to save some bandwidth Smiley )

Thanks to presstab, you can find the windows Qt with latest commit here

keep in mind this is a pre-release build. It's still safe to use.

Let me check for that blockchain file

A gift from me to GRW community. Built 5 minutes ago from most recent commits.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/v95nuqz1lg3xbw4/GrowthCoin-Qt.exe

Ohh, did you change any of the version numbers? I changed at least 3-5 of them. Let me see.

Okej, it's still very much 1.3.0.0 AFAIK.

The only thing I did was put a proper .ico in there, other than that exactly how it is from github.

Thanks PressTab, you're awesome Smiley

just wondering if you made a git pull in the directory?  because I'm pretty sure I updated all reference to the .ico file and uploaded a correct version a few commits back. so if it still doesn't work, let me know and I'll fix it.

Not the .ico was corrupted or something. Or maybe it didn't download properly I am not sure at the moment.

ok don't sweat over it, I think I remember it being corrupted or something at some point, but I also changed it.

Make sure you are updated (or clone a clean copy to make sure) and if it's still don't work let me know.
105  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [RE-ANN] GrowthCoin PoW/PoS - 100% per year - Version 1.3.0.0 on: July 11, 2014, 09:11:39 PM
I would like to know how you guys feel about the current PoS interest rate, among other things?

We will need to hard fork the chain in order to fix the bug to get minimum coin age back to 5 days. So why not get creative and suggest changes to the network that also require a hard fork

on the menu we could discuss

  • min/max stake age
  • yearly % rate
  • max PoS block reward
  • Network speed (45 second block too fast/slow?)
  • is PoW reward halving satisfying
  • Transaction fees: Too low/High? should they go to miners or be destroyed?
  • Other? ...

Also, current Proof of Stake rewards should be diminishing with difficulty rising, but the way it's been setup is wrong and doesn't take into consideration the diff.  I believe this is an important point.  While High PoS is good and beneficial in the early stages of adoption, it certainly isn't in the long run when adoption is more spread and coin supply is larger.

I would like to get the pulse of the community. I would also like this to be some kind of a brainstorm.

I think GrowthCoin is pretty awesome the way it is, but improvements are always welcome and discussions alway encouraged Smiley

Pool up.

With the new wallet I can read the starting time of it in Linux with Wine:

Quote
07/11/14 19:09:25 Loading block index...
07/11/14 19:32:43 LoadBlockIndex(): hashBestChain=00000000a13be8e96c06  height=586800  trust=1216338894556  date=07/11/14 18:30:31

It is about 20 minutes

it varies but it's supposed to be much faster,

so while sometimes I get 20 seconds, other times I can have up to 20 minutes load time!

last 3 load times

about 8 minutes
Code:
07/11/14 18:52:07 Loading block index...
07/11/14 19:00:53 LoadBlockIndex(): hashBestChain=7d2502a692ce371fd76b  height=586824  trust=1216365027684  date=07/11/14 18:49:58

about 11 minutes
Code:
07/11/14 19:39:55 Loading block index...
07/11/14 19:50:01 LoadBlockIndex(): hashBestChain=0a6cb3ef54a9204e3451  height=586886  trust=1216425229379  date=07/11/14 19:38:05

16 seconds!
Code:
11/07/2014 20:00:47 Loading block index...
11/07/2014 20:01:03 LoadBlockIndex(): hashBestChain=00000000536aed8aa5b0  height=586910  trust=1216444370251  date=11/07/2014 19:59:41

I plan to make use of level db in version 1.4 or 1.5.

I hope this will become more constant on load time

You can now click on the little padlock and up arrow. Plus the connection bars and status symbol. Neat. Wink Grin

Yes pretty sweet Smiley

Did you like the splash screen?
I wanted to make it look more neutral and trustworthy.

there is also the different one for testnet Wink

yeah it will be 1.3.1.0 when the I finish a few minor updates. I haven't changed it yet because I'm not finish.

TestNet activated:
https://github.com/iamunick/growthcoin/commit/593da3c710422c7ef525c8815262afbe5d558523

While starting the TestNet network, I noticed large amounts of PoW coins generated.  Looking at the source, I found that sherlockcoin added some code to generate 10,000,000 GRW per blocks.

So I went to make sure that those coins were not accepted by the network, and thankfully they weren't.

Yikes!!! Holy cow! Shocked Undecided What da f*****g h**l?!? Angry

Maybe this is why he didn't deliver his promised updates? Once his attempt to generate a ton of GRW for himself failed he didn't have any more interest in fixing this coin!

I think it's important that I bring this up to you, the community. I wanted you to be confident that his attempt had failed and that we move forward with yet a stronger coin Smiley
Yeah, that was a scary revelation. Undecided

Can we get "unlock wallet" & "lock wallet" function under the menu "wallet", maybe? I'd fix it myself, but I haven't poked around in the code, that much yet.

it's already done in the commits, I still didn't manage to get my windows box (VirtualBox) to compile properly, so I haven't updated the download link from github.

If you want to build yourself before I do it (or ask someone to do it) go ahead Smiley

There are quite a few little GUI improvements in there as well (like clickable icons)!
111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [RE-ANN] GrowthCoin PoW/PoS - 100% per year - Version 1.3.0.0 on: July 11, 2014, 07:49:46 AM

While starting the TestNet network, I noticed large amounts of PoW coins generated.  Looking at the source, I found that sherlockcoin added some code to generate 10,000,000 GRW per blocks.

So I went to make sure that those coins were not accepted by the network, and thankfully they weren't.

A quick math shows that:

the first 172800 blocks were @ 100 GRW = 17,280,000 GRW
the next 172800 blocks were @ 50 GRW = 8,640,000 GRW
the following 172800 blocks @ 25 GRW = 4,320,000 GRW
and the 67,526 block after that (witch brings us up to now) = 844,075 GRW

the total PoW blocks generation sums up to: 31,084,075 GRW

the actual money supply is @ 30,917,374.77263900 GRW

the ~166kGRW difference is due to PoS reward. (PoS took the place of PoW for a certain number of blocks and generated less than the PoW block would have)

Another verification from the block chain shows that the reward for the blocks in the range of the malicious code shows normal block rewards http://grw.blockx.info/get/chain/GrowthCoin?hi=306165&count=125

So needless to say that I removed that code from the source https://github.com/iamunick/growthcoin/commit/7c7650c09a782c325c724eb8ed3378b3c1c3abe6 Even though it's impossible for that code to do any harm at the point we are in the blockchain.

Maybe this is why he didn't deliver his promised updates? Once his attempt to generate a ton of GRW for himself failed he didn't have any more interest in fixing this coin!

I contacted unick and he rebooted the server.

Crazy how things are going;
MINT explorer is done by Unick. Explorer down, people complain, dev say he is powerless, I contact Unick, a bare two hours later, it is on.
TEK explorer is done by Unick. Explorer down, people complain, dev say he is powerless, I contact Unick, a bare two hours later, it is on.

Please explain.
(same went for TEK, HBN, CAP, PHS getting listed on allcoin. People speaking about getting listed on other echanges for day, one mail from me and this is done - I don't understand)

Much of it is because nobody contacts me when something is wrong!

In a future release I will make it easier for people to contact me if anything goes wrong but yeah, for now, best thing is to PM me Smiley

Also a lot of people rely on everyone else for things to get done, I do appreciate people like you, David, who takes things into their own hands and contribute to the success of the crypto world ;P

Thundertoe,

Any idea when then block explorer is gonna be back up?

This question has been asked several times over the past week. Is there no one who is able to provide an answer?

If the explorer ever gets down, please PM me. I'll take a look at it.

I check it from time to time but as time flies, sometimes a few days can go buy before I notice something wrong.

it's now back up and sorry for the downtime

What's this? Talking about rock 'n roll? I'm all for that. Tongue

lol,

there seems to be an issue with staking that doesn't allow mature coins (after 5 days) to stake until they reach around 9 days of age.

ghostlander seems to have solved the issue. I still need to look into that.

Unick have you ever gotten a block in less than 9 days?  I think this might have the same bug in the code that HyperStake has where it doesn't matter what the min age is, it will take 9 days min.

No I haven't. This is an odd behaviour. I'm still digging to figure out the source of this

Ghostlander found the bug it looks like and fixed it in orbitcoin. https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/13185-certain-pos-coins-unable-to-stake-in-under-9-days/

Does require a hardfork though.

You rock!

I'll have a look at that Smiley

but now i am getting the next error. it is really annoying (I fixed already a few before):
Code:

^
src/net.cpp:60:6: error: expected unqualified-id

Maybe this gets you another step further:
Quote
adding in src/makefile.osx

CFLAGS += -stdlib=libstdc++
Source: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=403936.msg4860134#msg4860134

ok, i was trying that yesterday already, but it didn't workout. I looked at it a little closer today and found out, that of course this file won'T help as it is not called with qmake or make.

so i added this two lines in .pro file

Code:
QMAKE_CXXFLAGS += -msse2 -w  -stdlib=libstdc++
QMAKE_CFLAGS += -msse2 -stdlib=libstdc++ -w

now it was really compiling a lot, but then...
next error.... kidding me?

Code:
/usr/bin/clang -c -pipe -msse2 -stdlib=libstdc++ -w -O2 -arch i386 -Wall -W -pthread -DQT_GUI -DBOOST_THREAD_USE_LIB -DBOOST_SPIRIT_THREADSAFE -DBOOST_THREAD_PROVIDES_GENERIC_SHARED_MUTEX_ON_WIN -D__NO_SYSTEM_INCLUDES -DUSE_UPNP=1 -DSTATICLIB -DUSE_IPV6=1 -DHAVE_BUILD_INFO -DMAC_OSX -DMSG_NOSIGNAL=0 -DQT_NO_DEBUG -DQT_GUI_LIB -DQT_CORE_LIB -DQT_SHARED -I/opt/local/share/qt4/mkspecs/macx-g++ -Ibuild -I/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/QtCore.framework/Versions/4/Headers -I/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/QtGui.framework/Versions/4/Headers -Isrc -Isrc/json -Isrc/qt -IC:/deps/boost -I/opt/local/include/db48 -Ic:/deps/ssl/include -I/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/QtGui.framework/Versions/4/Headers -I/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/QtCore.framework/Versions/4/Headers -I/opt/local/include -Ibuild -F/opt/local/Library/Frameworks -F/opt/local/lib -o build/scrypt-x86.o src/scrypt-x86.S

so i found this to solve the problem:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=205017.msg3933996#msg3933996

but still....
now i have the problem, that it doesn't find the boost libraries... its really a mess...
can anybody look at that maybe?

as for your ld: warning: directory not found for option '-Lc:/deps/ssl'

make sure to comment out the windows section at the top of the pro file to build on mac...  notice the c:/ file structure on windows there ?

EDIT:
I managed to compile by changing

Code:
array<int, THREAD_MAX> vnThreadsRunning;

to
Code:
boost::array<int, THREAD_MAX> vnThreadsRunning;

in net.cpp

hope this helps someone
