Are there some people left who're NOT dumping their Nxt? I see a lot of whales want out.

Why exactly is it?

show me more than 2 dumping whales in last 6 days:
http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=3000&acc=10715382765594435905
- everyone is buying

This is what scares me. I noticed this too, that this price decrease has been done by only 2 guys and about 3M NXT in last 10 days. These 2 guys have still 60M together.

I hope other whales don't follow these two.

Why ? We need big whales to spend their money so that the coin is more fairly distributed. Best would be if this is done via forum or private deals though, so that it doesn't affect exchanges.

Funny how one day people are complaining about "Whales" sitting on their NXT, and the next day they are complaining that the "Whales" are putting NXT into circulation. Cheesy

My thoughts exactly. The price upside for NXT for those with enough patience is massive.

NXT market cap is now under 40 Million USD - that is cheap by any measure. We all know NXT is one of only a small handful of serious competitors to bitcoin. If NXT had bitcoin's market cap today 1 NXT would cost almost 8 USD, and you can buy them today for under 4 cents. Think of the long-term potential, think of the talent working on the software, and relax.

The devs working on NXT aren't going to stop because the price has dropped. This is the time for average people following this thread to increase their stake. This is like when bitcoin was under 1 USD.

Don't focus on the price, and IMO the marketing will take care of itself in the short-term. Focus on the development of the core software. AFAIK the software development is all proceeding in the background by talented people who have sufficient NXT in their pocket to be 'motivated' for a good while yet.

Are there any people 'critical' to the success of NXT who don't have a big enough stash to stay motivated? If there are they should speak up ASAP so the community can work something out. Those looking for wages will probably be disappointed, but I'm sure critical people to the success of NXT can be accommodated. The whales could agree to sell NXT to key community members at a fixed price in the future once the price gets over a certain point. For example, a big stakeholder could agree to sell 100,000 NXT to a critical NXT activist at 10 cents USD each any time in future. That person then has a 'potential' stake in NXT that maybe they don't currently have. They might exercise their 'option to trade' when 1 NXT=1USD, so in effect they would get 90,000 NXT. I imagine this proposal might appeal to 'active' members of the NXT community who feel they aren't being compensated enough for their efforts.

As for the marketing IMO NXT is well placed, and once the software and infrastructure is finished all those intrigued by crypto currency but with doubts about bitcoin will go searching for alternatives themselves, and they will find NXT (and etherium, emunie, ripple, mastercoin) easily - we just need to have easy to understand material ready, and I think that's being worked on now too.

But for now we should make sure the key developers have enough NXT to stay focused on finishing the software.

Little summary for the average joe like me who will need to make nrs ready on windows7,
please complete if needed :

* download last NRS (message 1 page 1 of this thread)
* unzip
* install last java client if needed
* create .bat file with notepad++
code:
Code:
"c:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe"  -Xmx1024M -cp nxt.jar;lib\*;conf nxt.Nxt
*install this .bat in the main nrs folder unzipped earlier

* double click on your new .bat file
* wait a bit

* in your browser, enter these adresses:

http://localhost:7876/admin.html

http://localhost:7876/alias.html

I know it seems a crap step by step but it may be usefull to some, there are clients
but people need to understand a bit how to use Jean-Luc work.

Thanks for your post! How do I run NXT through TOR?

Why with tor ?

To prevent someone being able to connect account numbers with IP addresses (and eventually with the account owner).

With NRS it's as easy as this:

java -DsocksProxyHost=localhost -DsocksProxyPort=9050 -cp nxt.jar:lib/*:conf nxt.Nxt

It has been said that this still leaks DNS requests outside TOR.

Thanks!!

I would recomend:

1. BTC -- Most people know about it and it is being accepted as a mode of payment of some big online retailers.
2. LTC -- No doubt about this coin.
3. RDD -- Reddcoin is making a big noise right now but people wont hear it, their is still doubt on how this coin will be used as social media coin.
4. VTC -- You can never be wrong once you join the ride be prepare for a long journey.
5. DTC -- This coin have been silent its easy to mine and have a bright future ahead of it.

Stay away from this coin.
Nxt -- you have to buy it first before you can mine TX fee and the problem is, you got to have a million coins in your wallet to mine a descent amount of it.

Maxcoin -- Pretty shady lunch and people who bought it when it hits a exchange got burnt.

Follow this - a mining pool that targets profitable POW coins, then sells the alt coins to buy NXT, then distributes the NXT  to the miners.

Use your POW mining rig to generate NXT, the premier POS coin - cool idea!!

Definitely not good for NXT if it becomes popular.
What people don't realize in this community is that popularity & community is the alpha and omega of success.
People actually think that if NXT (which is 100% open source) is good enough "technically" then the rest doesn't matter.

There is no changes in hoarding, no changes in incentives, community is shrinking, price is falling etc. and nothing happens.
These big hoarders have a collective IQ in double digits.

Interesting quote

Quote
What I've said for a long time continues to be true. I'm "cautiously pessimistic" about Bitcoin.
What I mean by that is that I'm loving the idea but I see a lot of real problems. One of my concerns is that the complexity of it all will hinder adoption.
I also have concerns that are perhaps born out of a lack of full understanding. What happens when BTC mining returns drop significantly lower than costs? Will transactions fees be sufficient to induce miners to continue participating?
But I'm not forecasting doom for BTC. I'm cautious. I don't know enough to say for sure.

Personally I think we just "stick with the plan" and get on with it (otherwise you guys will still be debating in 2015 about what to do by which time Nxt will be irrelevant).

554  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Appeal to the community for the development of MC2 and related technologies on: March 09, 2014, 11:19:40 PM
Hi everyone.

This may come as a surprise, but I'm hoping it will come as good news to everyone out there.

I am eliminating any premine on this cryptocurrency.  I plan to do all the implementation of it over the next 4-6 months on top of btcd.

Looking back at all the cryptocurrencies that people actually have faith in, such as Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Peercoin, it seems like the only practical and fair way with which to launch a cryptocurrency is by doing so without the premine.  The people who will benefit from such a model will be you, the future users.  In the spirit of everything that this community has ever been about, it seems only appropriate to try to develop this myself while I live off of my own savings.  It'll be a rough road ahead, but I hope I will have the continual backing of the community for choosing to develop this for everyone's benefit with no monetary expectations in return.

Development will formally commence tomorrow, and I have left my job so I am free to work on this full time.

I will still release the software as binaries for the first month or two, then formalize a public github repo (to prevent initial forks).  I'll have put too much of my life into this by the time of release to have it forked as whatever-coin in the first couple of months, and I hope the community can agree with me on this sentiment.  Any members of the community who wish to audit the code are welcome to talk to me.

Good for you taco! Follow your gut instinct. I'm still very keen to invest some funds in your work, send me a PM if you need support.
Good luck!

Unique is being blunt as fuck here, but he does have a point. More big stakeholders opening their wallets would be good, even if only to show that they do give a fuck. But we've down this road before without much results, we can't force people to fund NXT even if it is in their own best interest to do so. So lets put selfish stakeholders on the list of things to ignore, for the moment.

I thought a group of big stakeholders started a fund managed by rickyjames for jl777 to use on all his projects. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think some of those donations were quite large. I think klee and pouncer (and others?) have funded other projects too (one involving CIYAM?).

Who & what need funding right now who aren't getting it, or aren't just about to get it from the three committees?

From my reading of this thread it sounds like we're still in the planning stage, and we already have funds for the three committees, plus the extra private funds for jl777 etc on the side.

Instead of criticizing the big stakeholders, why not focus on getting agreement on the final plan/direction for NXT, then organise that into a set of projects with a shopping list, then ask for stakeholder donations when they know who and what they're paying for.

I think many fat cats will contribute when the time comes, and I base that on past evidence. There's too much bad blood at the moment IMO, and we don't have a clear road map with a leadership group. Save the stakeholder bashing for if & when the leadership group's pleas for donations for specific projects are being ignored. Try and stay positive on the main task - the NXT roadmap!
557  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 09, 2014, 07:50:01 AM
I think NXT's best chance of achieving fast transactions is to offload them onto a parallel blockchain which is secured selectively by large stakeholders using high end hardware.

I would like to offer up a suggestion as to how the Nxt project could move forward in a way that can please both those wanting high performance and those wanting forging on low-grade hardware whilst at the same time solving the initial distribution *problem*.

The suggestion is NXG (Nxt Green or Nxt Gen if you prefer) which would be a separate currency to NXT but still based on NxtCore. It would use a different blockchain to NXT and also a different port for its comms. When AT is implemented a use case would be added for atomic cross-chain transfers between NXT and NXG.

In order to obtain NXG an "exit account" would be created (in much the same way that Mastercoin did) and all funds sent to that account would be used to pay for the development of NXG. The distribution of NXG would be up to its supporters to work out but presumably it would be such that those who have been so far unhappy with the distribution of NXT will be happier.

I would suggest the fees for NXG would be kept much higher than those for NXT making it appealing to those with low-grade hardware to forge (assuming NXG is going to still push the forging angle).

If the community decided to go down this path then I think TF *as originally planned* (i.e. with the "penalty") should proceed for the NXT blockchain and the major focus for the NXT blockchain would be to lower fees and achieve extremely high TPM figures that will appeal to "big business".

I'd just like to make a statement about the "initial distribution problem" if I may.

The initial stakeholders don't owe anyone here a goddamn thing. They took the huge risk by buying in early while everyone else called NXT a scam coin. They are under NO obligation to re-distribute the wealth to all those, including me, who missed out because of cynicism or ignorance or whatever. If NXT becomes a huge success, they and they alone deserve to be hugely rewarded for taking that risk. they have every right as free citizens of planet earth to do damn well whatever they please with their windfall.

That being said, if these stakeholders hope to see their investment mature to the point where they'll be able to perhaps buy a trip on Branson's Spaceship one day, they should invest in the future health of NXT in whatever way they see fit based on their own rational self interest.

There's no shortage of affordable NXT on the market. If you want some it's ripe for the picking on an exchange at mere pennies apiece. It's not too late to possibly book your own seat on a future Virgin voyage by simply not making the same mistake twice, taking a risk and buying some NXT. Then and only then will it will be your turn to decide how to invest your hard won investment in a way that you feel will make NXT grow even more.

I'm not a libertarian personally, but I really can't think of anything more free market than the way NXT has unfolded. I have no problem with the original folks being HUGELY rewarded because if they do then I'll be doing pretty good myself. It surprises me to see so many people in this community asking for socialism and redistribution of the wealth.

Regarding the NXG idea, I have to think on that before commenting. I do have one small critique which is that I can't imagine anyone being able to pronounce NXG. "That hotdog will be 10 NXG please." I just can't imagine it.

I'd pronounce NXG "next-gee" - 'that hotdog will be 10 next-gee'
