The coupons are a way to get rid of stock. With the S5 they have probably scaled production to the current climate. So it is unlikely that they will issue S5 coupons (no point in allowing s3/s4/c1 coupons. It's just numbers in a machine so it will be easier to create dedicated ones) anytime soon, if ever (the S5 looks like a short pit stop on the way to 14/16nm).

I doubt that just by the sheer numbers of them I received (coupons).  Plus if they really wanted to move them, they would continue to lower the price.  AFAIK, the price hasn't changed since the coupons came out.  That's why I quit buying the S4. Even though they were loud, they were a set and forget miner.

#3978   Dec 25, 2014   paid   unfulfilled   $1,000.00

I'm so jelly of those that have actually received a confirm.  I ended up waiting a day because I thought I'd receive an email from SP. Guess I won't be seeing it Monday after all. Sad
1004  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Closed] Legendaries review party of Spondoolies-Tech's SP20 on: December 26, 2014, 03:54:25 AM
Besides the way I see it home miner choice will be s-5 and or sp20 very soon.

That's what I'm banking on.  I'll have both in here next week to decide which I like better. I've got a 220v 30a circuit just waiting for them.
1005  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: The New Standard, 0.51J/G, 1155GH, Jan 8th shipping [Sales Open] on: December 26, 2014, 02:17:18 AM
Not too major, but the 10/16/2014 firmware doesn't completely address var diff as well as the patch ck put up.  The only problem with his is having to reapply after any restart. With 10/16 firmware I'd hit 1900-2000, with ck's patch I'd hit 2000-2100gh/s.

Any major issues with the current S4 firmware?

Sorry if Im ignorant.  If there is or are...  Please PM or let us know

Thanks!

@fresca,

do you have a serial comm for the control PCB?  if not, PM us, it sounds like your control PCB may be bricked...

If so, let us take care of you...  Firmware loading, please be careful, if you don't have a way to flush it.

Anything for the S4?

1006  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Unofficial Spondoolies SP20 thread on: December 26, 2014, 12:28:18 AM
Anyone know if I'll run into any issues with SP20 setup?  It will be on a 10.10.90.x network, but the computer I will be using to access that network will be on a 192.168.1.x network.  My IT guy has my miners on a different network than our main one, to keep some stuff off limits. I can typically just type in the ip address of my dragons, s3, etc and get to their interfaces.

It looks like the SP has a different web gui to do that.
You'll need to get the miner's IP manually (not through myminer.io) and then you'll be able to access the miner web UI

Wow, thanks for the quick response.  Hopefully they'll arrive Monday and I'll get to work on them.  Can't wait to compare them with a live S5 unit.  I've got to do some year-end buying for tax reasons and I'm down to these 2 choices.

Maybe I'll be a legendary by the next time you send out review units Wink

Hopefully I'll receive both my SP20s and S5 units before year end.  Really looking forward to the comparison. "Loud" is so subjective, its the only thing that has ever really been noted as a negative for the SPs.

Thanks folks.  I just wanted to make sure of what I was seeing.  Now I'll wait for both to arrive and see just how the sounds levels compare.  I was really hoping it would be a clear cut decision to purchase the S5 units, but it's not.
1010  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: The New Standard, 0.51J/G, Shipping on Jan 4th [Sales Open] on: December 24, 2014, 05:11:46 PM
Where are you getting the pricing for the SP20?  Cheapest I can find is $633 each and that's if I buy their nano farm promotion.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=903286.0

I confirmed this with SP and they are going to ship direct.

Sounds like the deal is over.  Was only for the first 200.  So back to what average noob home miner (like me) can expect, here's what I come up with.

                     S5     SP20
Cost (inc shp)     455       633
Hash Rate           1155     1700
Cost/Hash            0.39      0.37
Power                 590     1200

@1155 gh/s        455       430
24hr Pwr Cst       1.56   2.15
Pwr Savings        0.59

Cost Difference      $25.00

Not trying to promote one over the other, but I think SP is still letting him collect more than 200 units.  So even at your numbers it's 42 days before it is a better deal.

Truthfully, I'm hoping the S5 knocks it out of the park.  If it can be a quiet little miner that the wife won't notice, then it's worth the premium to me.
1011  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: The New Standard, 0.51J/G, Shipping on Jan 4th [Sales Open] on: December 24, 2014, 04:52:44 PM
That's just based on the the following:

S5 (From Bulk Batch2): $384 +$30 (averge shipping from China to USA)=$414 per 1155G, 590W.

It's what I was told shipping would be on Batch 2.

bulk batch has no shipping charges, so you cannot really combine these two parameters, so it is $413+ $27-40/unit (if you order 2-6 units)=$440-453

I would have thought that too, but that's not what I'm being told. And if you go to the checkout part, you will see it adds over $1300 for shipping Sad

So I'm reaching out to others for their take on the S5 vs SP20.  I calculate that it would take 125 days to recoup the additional electricity that you are saving with the S5 vs. it's premium over the SP20 when comparing equal hash rates and not taking into account the lower power draws of the SP20 when down clocked.

                                                                                     S-5                                    SP20
Cost (including shipping)                                                      414.00 $                              500.00 $
Hash Rate                                                                            1155                                   1700
Cost per Hash                                                                        0.36 $                                 0.29 $
Power (watts)                                                                         590                                   1200
Watts per Hash                                                                0.510823                             0.705882

Comparable Costs @ 1155gh/s
Costs                                                                                     414                             339.7059
24hr power cost $.11/kwh                                                        1.56 $                                2.15 $
Power Savings per 24hrs                                                          0.59 $

Cost Difference                                                                     74.29 $
# of Days to recoup Savings                                                124.911

So unless I plan on keeping the S-5 longer than 125 days, it wouldn't make sense to get it vs the SP20.  Am I missing something?  Also this is using the 52 unit price for the S-5 vs. the single unit price of an SP20.
1015  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN Products--Closed on: December 24, 2014, 03:11:45 PM
Sorry tech changes quickly.  I've already moved on to SP20 and S5.

Not the ROI discussion all over again. Please!

Ok, how about put me down for 2 units then?

1017  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [***Legendary GroupBuy***] SP20 - most efficient miner - ~0.5W/GH - 0.295$/GH on: December 24, 2014, 02:32:27 AM
Its not to say I am not a gambler but anything over 3 months payback is a no go for me.  That was a hard lesson learned.

What was the ROI from HODL'ers who invested a year ago?  I'd say miners fared better than HODL'ers in the past 12 months...
Depends if they paid USD or BTC, and where they ordered from. Tongue

I don't know if I'd take that bet.  After the S-1, most miners wouldn't mine more btc than what it orig cost in btc to purchase them after power costs.  Now buying hardware, mining and then selling hardware and replace with newer equipment definitely made money.

So this seems to be running a Beaglebone black and has an open USB slot. Can we pop in a usb wifi adapter and get wifi on the S5?

What a great question.  Would definitely save some clutter.
1019  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: The New Standard, 0.51J/G, Shipping on Jan 4th [Sales Open] on: December 23, 2014, 04:29:38 PM
How the the "pay with USD" option work out ?

After you chose this option, you will get information and guide on paying through international bank wire.

My bank only allows 2 international wires a year. Sad  Plus it always triggers an SAR.
1020  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: The New Standard, 0.51J/G, Shipping on 12/27 [Sales Open] on: December 23, 2014, 04:31:22 AM
Well, just ordered 2 of them to give a test run. Maybe that will help me decide on my year-end purchases.
