Anybody know where to download SP20 firmware? It shows in the gui that you can update from file. After going down to 2.5.12 and now my machine thinks its a Dawson, I would like to reload the correct firmware. You don't get those options after installing the 2.5.12.
I found the tech blog and how to create a recovery sd. Except after doing it, noticed it was a micro SD slot. Had to head home, so was hoping I could just load a correct firmware version from file since I can do that remotely. Haven't been able to locate their firmware files on their website or github yet.
Thanks.
I am a bit buzzed (new years eve cheer) , but I live in NJ, USA. If you live in the USA I could make a sd card for you and mail it on the 2nd of Jan. Thank you for the generous offer. I can take one from home to the office tomorow. I just didn't realize it was a micro card from reading the instructions. So when I made it on an SD card, I was pretty much done for the night at work. Thought maybe if I could upload from file the correct firmware it might fix it. Was finally able to find this: You can click on "Firmware Upgrade" then "Manual Selection" to access several firmware versions which Zvi currently thinks are decent. You can download all of the old firmware at http://storage.googleapis.com/spond_firmware/spon_2.X.YY.tar, where X and YY are the version numbers of the firmware you want to use.But it wouldn't seem to load onto the SP since it now thinks it's an SP10. I tried both 2.5.31 and 2.5.12. Was going to try and avoid the office for a few days, but doubt I'll be able to hold out now.

one of the webGIU pages is 'firmware update' or similar. press the automatic button and it should be rebooted on the new FW within a few minutes I wish. With the downgrade to 2.5.12, it changed to thinking it was an SP10. So I'm stuck in the SP10 firmware selections.

Yes it does. Thanks I've tried the FR and that didn't change the FW. I found the tech blog and how to create a recovery sd. Except after doing it, noticed it was a micro SD slot. I looked for you as well but could not find them available. I am sure SP will provide support but they are in the middle of the New Year right now. Looks like the micro SD route is your best bet though. Appreciate your looking. I'd call it a definite bug though if the SP20 let's you select SP10 firmware

It looks like it loaded the Dawson SP10 firmware because that's what it shows on the main screen now.

I ended up with .59 on one of my SP20s. I'm happy with its performance. My other one doesn't have .59 available in the list. How do I get it?
Thanks.
M
Just go into the gui Firmware tab and do automatic.

Is the OS/FW available to DL already? If so throw an SD card in and run from that for temp before you leave LOL!
I'm waiting on DHL to show their happy asses up with 2 more I want to get online before I go out myself as well!
Yep looks like what I need to do. I just noticed that when I did the manual fw update in the gui, it installed the SP10 Dawson. THAT is probably the problem!!!

May have to open up the box and check cables? Have you had it apart or moved it before it went down?
Of course. I have to complicate it. My guess is that I FUBARred the image and need to download and replace. I was just hoping for a quicker fix. I have had it running for a couple hours @ 200. I moved it upstairs and plugged back in. Went to the setting page and changed the 200 to 288. After that restart, no cgminer.

|

Anybody know how to fix SP20 that won't start cgminer. No Adapter in the Log. Tried factory reset and down to 2.5.12 FW. Now I can't even select latest firmware to reinstall.
|
|
|
Have you looked at the "ASIC Stats" page to see if there are any errors coming up or anything unsual?
Yes, no adapter!

|
|
Just like the title. I've tried factory reset, re entering the pool info, etc. No go. Would like to have this running before I head out tonight.

Ok, I got my SP20 units in and they were very quick to set up and get going.
PERSONAL OPINION: Either machine is a decent machine!!!
If sound is your deciding factor, the S5 has a little higher pitch than the SP20. My SP20 has a dull vibration sound from the other room. Reminds me of a washing machine noise or far off grain dryer.
By the time I played around with settings on both units, the $/gh for sound tolerance was nearly identical. The SP20 down clocked and the S5 over clocked. I know I won't be able to take the SP20 home because that dull sound resonates and will cause the wife to go postal. I'm going to try and sneak the S5 units home and see if she notices.
So after all is said and done, my choice will end up being which ever one I have enough power supplies for. I think I'm going to order more of both!

Quick question would you buy it again?
I got the one for free I like it. The loud fan put me off, but after playing around with it the correct fans would make this really nice.
That's my big question for today. The fan puts me off also, but until I get an SP20 in hand today to test, I really have no competitor to compare it to. I think you are getting what you pay for with the S5. Since the fans were louder than anticipated, I just went ahead and bumped them up to 400M and they are rocking 1.3T with around .025% HW errors. With my two units, it was a rocky start, but I really have no complaints. They appear cheaper made than the SP20, simply because of the flimsy plastic and no top/bottom. But you pay less for them also. By the time you down clock the SP20 and over clock the S5, the S5 will end up being cheaper $/gh.

Still waiting.... My first set is suppose to show up today. Hope they give me enough time to test them and decide between the SP20 or S5. The S5 units that I received run very stable at stock and rather impressive overclock. Sound is going to be the determining factor I think.

.............This is a single rail 1000w psu. ........
What is the brand & type of this PSU? It's an OCZ Gold 1000w. Don't really know too much about it. I received it with some miners last year. It was laying here at the office and figured it had more than enough power to run one of these. Once I get the SP20s today, I'll be moving stuff around between, Corsiar CX500, HX850, TX850 and this one.

Be sure to see my update to OP. Maybe the S5 is like a fungus and grows on you over time

Here's where I'm at with the 400 setting after 13min. Temp has been holding steady, but unit is in a room with the window partially open and 24F outside. Don't want to push further today as I am getting ready to leave the office. Elapsed GH/S(5s) GH/S(avg) 13m52s 1,490.62 1,368.15 these setting are almost like my SP20 in power, hash and temp. Care to report noise vs SP20? Are you doing it on 750W bronze or higher wattage bronze?
Noise is comparable to SP20 (both systems all stock hardware). So far all my testing of this S5 is with the same 750W bronze PSU. Only 1 change - adjusting clock speed in the web UI dropdown menu. The dropdown lists speeds up to 500M, but I really don't expect it'll go that high. That would be over 1.6 TH/s! Once I find the limits of this configuration, I'll try a platinum PSU to see if there's any more headroom for overclocking. i topped out at 356 using the silverstone fans. i hated the sound the stock fan makes

what would be the ROI Expectation?
Would you rather pay $15-$20 extra per fan or "doesn't matter the noise or heat but has to ROI" model?
Actually probably less production of equipment and a higher BTC price would solve a lot of the issues. (Since you did say wish) Then the equipment would be worth the price and ROI. The doesn't matter argument doesn't work, because we are still creating noise and heat pollution, which both cost money to deal with, which eats into ROI. Example, if I have to have more air conditioning in a server room to deal with the extra heat, then that's additional cost to consider in ROI. As you stated, everything is moving so quickly. Equipment needs to ROI (btc to btc) in less than 120 days because after that 2 more generations of equipment have already been released leaving the current stuff worth very little in the resale market.
