You must have noticed as well that some merchants will hesitate to accept card payments for a soda drink or cigarettes. The cost of the transaction fees may significantly cut into or even exceed the profit margin on such low-cost items. In my place, they do hate it when you're asking to pay with card for anything lower than 5€. They'll find an excuse that their POS is broken, and accept only cash for the moment. There is a legislation that says card payments up to €10 should only charge 0,5% fees. Some banks have already implemented it. For example, one coffee that costs €2,00 is only going to pay €0,01 fee. Is that a lot? As a merchant in a competitive economy (tons of take-away cafeterias) is it worth losing a potential income of €1,99, just because you're greedy and you want €2,00? Many tourists prefer using cards (especially Revolut for zero exchange rate fees), so you're going to lose lots of money if you don't accept POS payments. So even if the government hadn't imposed POS payments, it makes sense to accept them voluntarily. 0,5% loss is nothing if you take into account that BTC can easily go +5% in a single day. Of course it can also go -5%, but long-term wise we all know it can go a lot higher than that. So if you're smart enough (spoiler alert: most people/merchants aren't), it totally makes sense to convert your fiat income into BTC on a daily basis. Cards aren't the real danger, CBDC is for reasons I have explained many times before, so I won't repeat myself. Try this experiment next time after wanting to buy something: - Hello sir/madame, do you accept Bitcoin?
- No, I don't.
- Oh, too bad, I'll pay with a card then! There is a small chance (1-2%) that they may ask you what Bitcoin is and how they could potentially accept it in their shop... You may even attract their interest even more if you tell them that Bitcoin charges zero fees for the recipient (merchant), only the client pays fees (could be zero with LN). That's just a simple way to spread the orange pill with minimal effort. (bonus: small talk hones your social skills)

Χρόνια πριν βγει το Bitcoin, κάποιος είχε ένα ανάλογο όραμα: https://web.archive.org/web/20170318155023/http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_EN/20060623/118484/?P=2--Will CELL be a resolution to solving the bottleneck you mentioned?
Kutaragi: Exactly. CELL will transform the fundamentals of the network topology. The old mechanism functioned by reading memory data into resistors and rewriting the arithmetic into memories. In short, it was just a repetition of loading and storing. Because each cash memory differs in time of access and capacity, it worked out in such hierarchical structure as primary cache, second cache, etc. On the other hand, CELL might completely transform the concept of cache as it would drastically accelerate the speed of networking. What comes into reality is that each of the astronomical number of computers around the globe could unite to form a CELL and operate by one operating system. Each CELL would be the broadband network itself. Just to give you a picture, it is like 1,000 units of computers at one company functioning as one server. In such a networking world, one would only see the overall strength of power decline when one computer drops out and vice versa. It sounds like a human society. Θυμίζει αρκετά το δίκτυο του Bitcoin με τα ASICs και το hashing difficulty adjustment... https://web.archive.org/web/20170318155023/http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_EN/20060623/118484/?P=3--What are your views on the world's confusion to the appearance of such services as Napster?
Kutaragi:It was an innovative event that a Peer-to-Peer software has debuted in the network. But the network became the current tropology when TCP/IP appeared. Going back to the time five years ago, it could have been easy to predict the form of P-to-P. When looking back, it seems that even I could have worked out the model of P-to-P out if I had given a serious thought to the matter during the New Year holidays. It was the negligence of the Japanese networking engineers that they did not come up with the idea. There are too many watchers who criticize other people's technologies and there are too little who really are giving everything a good thought. Those mere criticizers claim they are engineers, but alas, they are salaried workers. They think they understand their stints by reading NIKKEI ELECTRONICS, for instance. It is nothing if the magazine knows more than the field in which you specify. Don't you think? Το ADSL ήρθε αρχικά το 2002 από την IntraConnect σε ελάχιστες περιοχές (Νέα Ιωνία) με ταχύτητα 256/128 Kbps (down/up) και τιμή €44/μήνα Το 2003 από ΟΤΕ σε tiers των 384/128, 512/128, 1024/256.

Imagine if Satoshi tried to have a democratic poll back in 2008 about how Bitcoin should be... how many coins, issuance schedule, algo etc. Bitcoin still wouldn't exist to this very day due to constant & multiple disagreements! So if you expect various people to agree on the "ideal" block size, then this debate won't even end in 1000 years from now. Bitcoin was set in stone long time ago. It is what it is. My personal subjective opinion is that Bitcoin shouldn't have been made to store arbitrary data in the first place, but clearly Satoshi wanted that (see: bank bailout genesis message). Yes, I know it's possible to use 256-bit addresses to store arbitrary data indirectly (kinda like using ASCII art to store/transmit images if JPEG didn't exist), but just like ASCII art, it will never be particularly efficient or attractive for mainstream usage. That's why most people use JPEG these days (we don't live in the 80s anymore). So ideally I believe the BTC blockchain should just host financial transactions and nothing more than that. No scripting ability either. As lightweight as possible (too bad MimbleWimble didn't exist back in 2008). If that was the case, then perhaps scalability would be a lot better today. Regarding arbitrary data, there should be an optional sidechain where you can host all sorts of stuff. The last thing we want (it may have happened already, I don't know) is a malicious actor/butthurt no-coiner to store pedo pr0n or even copyrighted material in the immutable BTC blockchain and make it really hard to run a BTC node without breaking the law. Also, another thing that hurts adoption these days is that you have to spend money to get BTC. Back in 2009-2010 not only mining was easy-peasy, but also there were multiple faucets where you could get 1-2 BTC with minimal effort. Fiat/CBDC money on the other hand can be provided for free under certain circumstances (i.e. COVID stimmy checks back in 2020-2021 and UBI in the future). How do you expect Bitcoin to compete against CBDC? Most no-coiners are not willing to spend a single dime on it and most Bitcoiners are not willing to hand out satoshis to anyone.

This whole block size debate will never die... just like the Christian calendar debate which created a schism long time ago! Bitcoin never promised to fix human nature issues.

Stay tuned...

The FTX fiasco was unfortunate for many people who lost their money, but I don't believe state (over)regulation is going to save retail investors. The crypto community invented a new protocol called Proof of Reserves to verify if a CEX holds 1:1 reserves and thus prevent any future Ponzi attempts. The FTX fiasco also gave the opportunity to smart people to go all-in at 15k USD. Maybe the last opportunity to become a wholecoiner for the middle class. Too bad we'll never see 15k ever again... Regarding presidents, many Bitcoiners (let alone no-coiners) aren't savvy enough to understand that presidents are Deep State puppets. Neither Trump, nor Biden is going stop stuff like CBDC (FedNow) and Real ID: https://x.com/RealPatrickWebb/status/1797404225703477542If you really think Powell is the true boss of the FED (we can all agree that the US president cannot influence/control FED), then that's not much different compared to believing in Santa Claus!

why double so often?
btw as i read the two of you argue it looks like scrypt with doge and ltc merged mined is the better solution.
than frozen btc blocks or endless btc block doubling . DOGE is highly inflationary (maybe not as much as USD, but they still issue over 14m coins per day). LTC could play second fiddle to BTC (like gold vs silver). that is a common mis conception doge is superior to both ltc and btc. it has solved the reward/fee ratio issue. year 1 = x 2013 year 2 = 2x 100% inflation year 3 = 3x 50% inflation year 4 = 4x 33% inflation year 5 = 5x 25% inflation x x x x year 10 = 10x year 11 = 11x 10% inflation x x x x x x x x year 20 = 20x year 21 = 21x 5% inflation 2034 year 22 = 22x 4.5% inflation 2035 year 23 = 23x 4.34% inflation 2036btc by 2024 3.125 2028 1.5625 2032 0.78125 2036 0.390625 serious issues for the reward/ fee rationot solved as of today just 12 years from now As time goes on Doge looks better and BTC looks worse Doge a perfectly steady decreasing rate of inflation BTC as of today the reward/fee ratio is neat to be fixed. BY 2036 looks like it is an issue Its why people argue over how to fix fees in the future. Doge has obviously fixed inflation issue. 4.34% in 2036 2.00% in 2064 the 51st year of it. 1.00% in 2114 the 101st year of it.Never running out of reward money for fees. and 10x the blocks which allows a clone of any fix btc does. but 10x the volume. DOGE's inflation is even higher than FED's 2% target. If you ask me, I don't consider deflation a bad thing, especially if the human population is going to decrease accordingly (Japan is a good example). By 2036 BTC should be the global reserve currency and extremely valuable. 0.39 BTC could be a small fortune by then, even if you measure it in today's dollars. Imagine if 1 BTC is worth 10 million (as Hal Finney envisioned back in 2009)... you think mining will stop being profitable? Let alone the ever increasing fees! Also, AI & robots will be everywhere, which is going to cause huge deflationary pressure everywhere. Cost of labor will be basically zero by then. I know this sounds nuts, but the humanity of 2036 will be very different compared to today. We won't really need inflation in the future.
