2881  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can i make 50.000$ fast ? on: November 13, 2019, 09:51:43 AM
Charge 50,000 people one dollar telling them how they can make $50,000 fast and then tell them to do the exact same thing.

Making fifty grand with things as dead as they are would be quite the stretch. Of course it's possible but no one can tell you how. It's all pure gambling.
2882  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is diversification really a good advice for Newbies? on: November 12, 2019, 03:18:37 PM
Automatically you are saying litecoin and nem are both shitcoins? i hope you are right, people only like talking about the present condition and not about tomorrow, just because litecoin value dropped alot doesn't mean its the end, those who are really at lose are the ones that sell their coins and accept their loss

Both of those projects are among the least offensive in how they operate, but shitcoins can be shit because of the way the market treats them. Poor old nem in particular has never earned any respect and is picked up and dropped again without a second thought.

Of course it could come roaring back but I wouldn't expect it to sustain unless something radical happened.

In terms of the original question, if you want to play with alts the most common mistake I see is people settling on only one or two. They all pretty much move as one as hardly anyone knows or cares about the differences between them but there's always a few losers. You may wind up deep in one of the few left behind.

If I wanted to play alts I'd spread it across a bunch and forget about it. And it would never be a high percentage of what I had in crypto.

Only for those who are wealthy enough and have many other sources of income will careless about this dump

I don't think it depends on how rich you are. It depends on how confident you are. If you're a true believer then dumpage will annoy you but won't rattle you. That belief may well be horrifically misplaced but that's what gets you through. Time and learning are the main factors in developing it.

Why no rooting?

Plenty of stuff is more than capable of running much more modern software than manufacturers can be bothered with.

Obviously there are some risks with that too but sensible practice nullifies plenty of it.

I got over obsessive price checking many years ago.

I enjoy guessing current prices based on the thread titles here.

I enjoy a weekly check of my numerous alts just to see how fucking pathetic they still are and they rarely disappoint.
2886  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What Cryptocurrency should I get? on: November 10, 2019, 10:43:32 AM
When people express interest in crypto I just give them some.

It's far less trouble for me and them.

Pinch your grandson's nipple until he hands some over for free. It's his fault for mentioning it in the first place.
2887  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should I covert BTC to another to get lower withdrawal fees? on: November 09, 2019, 09:06:59 PM
This was really helpful to me. I have used BTC as a means of withdrawing money for a long time. However, for currencies like TRX, ETH, XLM or LTC, ... the cost is very low, even it does not exceed $ 0.5. If withdrawing money, you should use non-BTC platforms, it will greatly reduce your fees.

It completely depends on your purpose. If you're trying to move BTC to another exchange through an alt by the time you add up the fee to trade back to BTC and the potential difference in price then it may well cost you considerably more than paying the original fee.

This reminds me of a guy I knew who used to drive 10 extra miles to save 3 pence on a litre of fuel, and he only ever bought 4-5 litres. When I pointed out he burnt more fuel than he was saving it was like witnessing the discovery of fire as it very, very slowly dawned on him.

karpellees looks like a fat lesbian. Even with the few bill he stole he will always look like a fat lesbian

All that Japanese prison starvation has turned Mark into a suave dreamboat.

I wonder if he'll ever write a Gox story and whether any of it would be true. No doubt he was a slack, arrogant, dishonest weirdo but no one would've been able to cope with what it became in such a short time. If it had been me I would've shut it down and walked away before it properly bit me and everyone else but many people would believe they could stick at it and make it work.
2889  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: Bitcoin SV (BSV) - fake team member and plagiarized white paper on: November 08, 2019, 09:20:04 PM
themos, please help, close this troll's topic

What's with these whiny bitch appeals to authority? Is that not the antithesis of what Bitcoin stands for? Are you not men?

Why not pay the OP 100 BTC to close it? I'd do it for that amount, but I would add who paid me to and why. Good honest market forces in action.

Please note that would be actual Bitcoin, not any pisspoor imitation.

2890  Economy / Economics / Re: Distribution of coins across holders? on: November 08, 2019, 09:14:13 PM
I doubt there's a place that collates this for all coins so you're better off Googling each individual coin and the phrase 'rich list'.

Most of them will have a site that lists the biggest addresses. Some will identify the addresses such as developer or exchange funds.

Here's an example for XEM - https://nemnodes.org/richlist/
2891  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should I covert BTC to another to get lower withdrawal fees? on: November 08, 2019, 09:07:02 PM
The reason for my withdrawal would be to hold the crypto long term in cold storage, NOT to convert back to fiat. I read that it's better to store it that way as opposed to keeping it on the exchange long term.

However, if I convert it from BTC to another coin for this long-term storage to save the commission, I guess I'm taking a gamble that that coin will hold it's value... maybe BTC is the wisest choice despite the larger fee?

I thought this question was regarding a few minutes moving between exchanges, not several years. You would be an absolute madperson to plan long term storage in an alt especially if Bitcoin is what you want.

If you'd bought into most alts in 2017 to save $4-5 in withdrawal fees you would now have about 8-10x less BTC in most cases and in some none whatsoever. Pay the fee.
2892  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Sad news - Coinbase is leaking your information on: November 08, 2019, 08:49:24 PM
Since your phone, computer and bank is probably already doing this should anyone be surprised? Even if you keep your coins properly offline, as soon as you spend them or send them it's likely someone somewhere is logging it.

I assume everyone's watching me closely unless they explicitly state otherwise. Even then I'd assume they were trying to dupe me.
2893  Other / Meta / Re: How did you chosen ₿itcointalk username at the beginning of registrations? on: November 08, 2019, 12:42:02 PM
I put zero effort or thought into mine. I typed the first thing that occurred to me. At least I don't use it anywhere else.

If I'd known what a fixture I'd become I would've preferred to have spent some time thinking it over. Perhaps PinkPanties or Big Glenda.
2894  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How BIG will the crypto market be if China legit cryptos? on: November 08, 2019, 10:47:11 AM
It sounds like they're being positive about Bitcoin itself which is something I didn't expect.

All the same they don't do anything if it doesn't benefit Chinese power. If they fostered BTC adoption until it started to be identified as a threat to their plans you can bet your peachy buns they'll come down hard on it again.

It's possible they regard it as a factor in undermining the power of USD. It might take many more years but it's a long game regardless of your approach.
2895  Economy / Collectibles / Re: HELP NEEDED! WHERE TO GRADE CASASCIUS 2013 PHYSICAL BITCOIN? on: November 08, 2019, 10:42:52 AM
Huh?
Why would grading make a coin more valuable?   Huh

I have no plans to ever do it myself but presumably it does matter to some buyers. It's a standardised declaration of condition at least.

I don't understand the vagaries of coin grading or give the slightest shit so it wouldn't be much of a factor for me.
2896  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: Bitcoin SV (BSV) - fake team member and plagiarized white paper on: November 08, 2019, 10:35:41 AM
No wonder why fraudtoshi and Calvin Ayre go along so well. They're a bunch of pathological liars.

Even if Kleiman had anything to do with BTC, and there's zilch to suggest he did, there's no way someone with his level of expertise would leave behind machinery with anything anyone could access without his assent.

Craigy suggesting they fish out his his Commodore 64 from the cupboard and cheerfully cut and paste all those wallet.dats is laughable.
2897  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: No Wonder Satoshi Disappeared... on: November 08, 2019, 01:44:59 AM
Dying from Satoshi was worst that happen to him, but best that happen for Bitcoin. Its brutal, but its reality.

Disappearing was surely a conscious choice on his part. There's no way it could achieve the goals he envisioned if he'd stuck around answering questions and tinkering. It had to move beyond one person.
2898  Economy / Collectibles / Re: HELP NEEDED! WHERE TO GRADE CASASCIUS 2013 PHYSICAL BITCOIN? on: November 07, 2019, 10:22:48 PM
Thank you for the answer.

I totally agree with you. I would absolutely never mail them to anyone.

Anacs attend coin shows where you could get it graded in person. If I was in the US I'd certainly consider doing that and I may look into whether there's one near ish when I'm there next.

There are obviously plenty of other grading places but it might be a little bit of a turn off to certain buyers.
2899  Economy / Collectibles / Re: HELP NEEDED! WHERE TO GRADE CASASCIUS 2013 PHYSICAL BITCOIN? on: November 07, 2019, 10:11:58 PM
www.anacs.com is the commonly accepted one. I'm not sure whether they still do it, but they used to and that's where almost all Casascius coins have been graded.

I have a couple myself. I'm in the UK so there's no way I'd risk mailing one to them as they're in the US so mine will stay ungraded. Grading is a nice bonus to have but nowhere near the be all and end all.
2900  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: No Wonder Satoshi Disappeared... on: November 07, 2019, 10:08:35 PM
Was ripple even around when Satoshi disappeared. If it wasn't, this isn't a really good reason why he disappeared from the scene, pretty sure he left when there was no other crypto-currency (other then BTC), and other cryptos like ETH, etc, where created a year later.

Ripple is far older than BTC. If I remember rightly it got rolling in a rather different form in 2004 or so. This makes it a double piss take as it's had 15 goddamn years to achieve something, and indeed it has - a truly ludicrous price based on nothing.
