3281  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Public online auction for confiscated BTC tomorrow 25 Sep 2019 on: September 24, 2019, 11:05:14 AM
Are you part of this auction team from UK?

Why is that only available for UK citizens? If there is any options to all people participating on it, you may share it to auctions board. Here is the auction board link, it will be helpful for right people looking for this info.

According to this press release from last year - https://www.wilsonsauctions.com/news/wilsons-auctions-hitting-a-global-audience/

"Whilst we are firmly physical auctioneers, our auctions are all live online these days, and we frequently have specialist auction events, so our customers can come from anywhere in the world."

But there's no country option on their register page so I'm not sure what's what.

I really doubt it's worth bothering because of the 15% buyers' premium and it's likely there'll be VAT on that 15%. I'll bet many of the marks who get excited and bid will forget about that little detail.
3282  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 24, 2019, 10:44:45 AM
Ahhh shit, I saw that young girls speech yesterday. Not my kind of thing, something wrong with that kid. It’s either forced on her by parents or she’s just outrageously odd.

The whole speech is socialist bull shit btw, embarrassing.

She herself is autistic and I read a thing about her being hijacked and incubated by some super slick PR operation. I thought her transatlantic crossing was v cool though.
3283  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 24, 2019, 10:32:00 AM
Someone does not pay the electricity bill.

My theory is that some weird little Greta Thunberg lookalike has invented a miner the size of a pea more powerful than several million normal ones and is too autistic to tell anyone about it. It looks like it fell out of her nose ring and rolled down a drain.
3284  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium app on Android can not send Btc on: September 24, 2019, 10:26:36 AM
Hello once again,

now i have trouble also creating backup of my mycelium wallet, i waited for 24 hours (cause creating new pin), now i can not click on button i understand the risk of creating backup. What to do now?

This might be an insultingly obvious observation but are you waiting a minute before pressing the button? It gives you a 60 second countdown between pressing backup and letting you press the button to get the seed.

If it's still not allowing you to do anything I think you need a developer response. It might be that updating a corrupted version is totally safe. Best to wait for confirmation.
3285  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Proof that bitcoin is needed, even by developed countries such as US of A on: September 24, 2019, 10:13:00 AM
2% inflation is not a big deal

It wouldn't be if it were the true figure of the increases in the cost of living.

In most places if you included property, both renting and buying, it's been 5-15% for several years. Funnily enough most governments don't include that in their inflation figure.

Also in many places wages have stagnated or fallen since 2008 so not only is inflation way higher than reported, you're also getting paid less. Adjust inflation to include that and it starts to look distinctly third world.

They also pull a thousand other tricks to make you think you're not a boiling frog like reducing the size of grocery portions and charging you the same amount.

3286  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-09-23] CEO of largest alternative investment firm vows not to buy bitcoin on: September 24, 2019, 09:56:17 AM
Since Blockchain is a free technology and no one owns it this big companies exploited it and tried to create one of their owns and now you will see a lot of patent wars because of them creating their own versions of it. Stephen Scharzman is not alone on viewing cryptocurrencies like this he isn't the first one to take advantage of it. But I personally end up seeing this as an acceptable reason on why they are not interested in the crypto market since they already know the risk and billionaires like him are not really in for it like Warren Buffet who is always open in his views about Bitcoin as an investment.

It is of course his opinion and he's welcome to it but I find it very strange that anyone that's ever gone anywhere near the tech world isn't thinking about the miserable and risible failure of intranets vs the internet when it comes to 'blockchain' vs any system secured by a proper cryptocurrency.

Even if it made me sad no way would I discount the option that's being worked on by the most skilled people that clearly will have some sort of future no matter what. A two year old with a head injury can point to most 'blockchain' being DOA.

3287  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Public online auction for confiscated BTC tomorrow 25 Sep 2019 on: September 24, 2019, 09:42:00 AM
no exchange does not want so much at the same time. And while the price for the purchase is visible to everyone ...

Moreover, data such as KYC is requested by a country. Interesting.
I think only UK citizens can participate?

Apart from the deposit thing that's exactly how exchanges should operate, but don't.

I can buy millions of pounds in stocks and all I need is photographic ID and proof of address. Try putting 20 grand through Bitstamp and wait for them to demand the right to crawl up your anus and live inside your mind for six months.

I'm still confused how the online auction for confiscated BITCOIN will go, how they can create their own price?
They will based on the current price of Bitcoin or much lower on it? Because if you will just buying on the action and if you compare that on the price of Bitcoin now, if your total costs buying on auction is much higher compare on just buying on some exchanges, then it's useless.

It's a government commissioned auction. They won't pay any attention to the Bitcoin market. It's down to whoever turns up to bid to set the price. They might get lucky, they might all ruin each other. It's not anyone's problem but theirs.
3288  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bakkt is coming: will this be biggest crypto week ever and set off bull run? on: September 24, 2019, 09:10:31 AM
Many are because it was opposite to what most expected.

Then they're silly billies.

Most people on this forum are interested in Bitcoin because it might provide them with one thing - more dollars.

That's doubly or triply the case for high rollers. Trading to wind up with BTC is going to be niche however you wish to look at it.

It's cool that it exists and one day it will be a powerful market factor but it could be a considerable wait.
3289  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium app on Android can not send Btc on: September 23, 2019, 09:15:36 PM
I did updated wallet with update on 13th of September. I changed my pin, so now i need to wait for 1 more day to create backup. So if it will work in 1 day i will create backup and store words on paper.

I hope next update will fix this issue or what else can I do?

As long as you have the seed you'll be free to take the seed and try another wallet if the update or reinstalling Mycelium doesn't work.

The only issues I've had with it after several years of use are their servers going down, which affects everyone but has only happened a couple of times, and occasionally I've had to reload the account when new transactions didn't show up.

It sounds like it's crashing on you which has never occurred for me.
3290  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: best multi coin wallet ? on: September 23, 2019, 09:06:19 PM
The OP is a newbie. Therefore, I somehow don't support the part of using the coinomi as a wallet because of the previous situations of the wallet accusation

Coinomi's problems were with the desktop wallet, not the mobile version. The mobile version is not open source so people should be cautious with it but I'm happy to store some junk in there.

The only other desktop ones I can think of are Jaxx and Exodus both of which have had gaping security issues. I think this tells us that computers should not be used for this purpose.

I'd do phone if I was totally broke. Hardware is the obvious other one. No to computers completely unless they're offline for life.
3291  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can more ATM's increase adoption for Bitcoin? on: September 23, 2019, 07:33:05 PM
However, I don't think that these are the way forward. We need integration with a major chain or retailer in order to truly spur adoption.

In fact, if we could get a huge retailer providing a discount for paying in Bitcoin, that would probably do a huge amount for adoption.

It would have to be a HUGE discount to spur otherwise indifferent people into taking the plunge, and even then one bad morning's market action and whatever discount they thought they were getting can be wiped out and then some before they spend it.

I'll guess most retailers are on such thin margins there's no way they could afford to offer anything that would compel people to look deeper.

Retail is a dead end. If it ever does happen it's going to be the final thing to fall into place, not one of the first. People who already own it don't want to spend it. People who are yet to arrive won't have the slightest interest in buying something so they can buy something else.
3292  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-09-16] Darkweb criminals launder cash for bitcoin at pennies for dollar on: September 23, 2019, 07:18:48 PM
That won't happen. Crypto markets are the fuel fo the cryptocurrency industry right now.
Without them, the industry cannot survive and actually bitcoin is going to die. Illegal activities are going to continue to happen the same way as they happened before bitcoin invention.

Don't worry yourself about his opinion when it comes to this particular area.

He wants you to buy BSV, ideally from his fine self I presume. They have an ever so slightly contradictory fantasy about Bitcoin being truly P2P whilst also having nodes that no one can afford to run and slavish legal penis suckage. Funnily enough they're all mutually exclusive but you may as well be arguing about the colour of the sky.
3293  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-09-23] CEO of largest alternative investment firm vows not to buy bitcoin on: September 23, 2019, 06:45:32 PM
I just don't get how people could seriously believe in that.

Investing in 'blockchain' is no different to any other VC crap other than the fact that you are 100% guaranteed to set your money on fire rather than 99.8%. Investing in a real live crypto is awful scary doncha know.

It's a get out clause. You look vaguely hip without having to actually nail your colours to the mast.

3294  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-09-23] CEO of largest alternative investment firm vows not to buy bitcoin on: September 23, 2019, 02:17:58 PM
I'd be curious to know how responsive these places are to customer demands or requests.

Are they expected to sit there and swallow every decision laid out for them or is there quite a bit of back and forth?

There'll come a time where statements like this will hinder your credibility and business.
3295  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 23, 2019, 11:14:01 AM
Cool, who else was there? LFC, Mic, HM, V8 what about the rest?

I was present.

WO meetup pioneers pithy motto: "our opsec is atrocious (except for a couple people) but we had a fucking great time and everyone was very cool".

In a sense.

"WO turned into a fluffy version of itself."
I must admit - Fatman is spot on.

Since we live in such a hideous world do we not deserve one place where we can bathe in human warmth and sentimentality? I may not make it but my hope is that an American meet will look exactly like this.

3296  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Escrow and how to trust them on: September 23, 2019, 11:04:42 AM
Are they approved by the forum or anyone else?

They get the most convincing approval of all - the experiences of the people who've used them.

That's far more powerful than one forum mod checking them over for a couple of minutes and then ticking a box.

You can't fake a track record, or it would be extremely hard to do, so you can draw on what everyone else reports.

It's not foolproof but it's one hell of a lot better than some random website with some bought reviews.

3297  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bakkt has traded only 7 BTC so far on: September 23, 2019, 10:11:28 AM
I have the feeling that users have to high expectations from Bakkt but at the end they might get disappointed.
It's only the begininig but and it takes some time to see the effects but I don't think that will influence Bitcoin significantly. Still I wouldn't like to make conclusions at the moment, let's wait a while.

It's the same as everything else. The crypto kids want it NOW and if it doesn't happen then their attention wanders back to kitten or beheading videos. Stuff like this sneaks up, it doesn't grind its crotch in your face from the off.

The CME futures thing is the same. It was piddling on launch. When a few could be bothered to check it again quite some time later it was doing very muscular volumes indeed.
3298  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bakkt has traded only 7 BTC so far on: September 23, 2019, 08:45:36 AM
Launching on a Sunday night isn't the most extravagant way of doing it. Let us give it a week or so.

Even then why would there be masses of excitement, volume and FOMO? There sure as shit isn't anywhere else.

I was expecting nothing and it looks like I'll get it. Better than a dump at least.
3299  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if SOUTH KOREA SHUTTINGDOWN BTC??? on: September 23, 2019, 08:36:18 AM
I don't entirely agree with your viewpoint here! South Korea is the third largest country in terms of transaction volume, just behind Japan and USA. If (in worst case) South Korean government decides to ban all crypto exchanges and declare it illegal, a huge impact will be seen in the market during the exit period. Even though the impact will be temporary, there's no way we can escape that! No matter how decentralized the market is!

South Korea is a closed market. No one else can get in or out. Most of the exchanges there seem to be bent or incompetent so I wouldn't choose to believe their volumes either.

If they threw it in the only tangible effect beyond sentiment might be more supply released to the rest of the world but the South Koreans love alts more than most places shitcoins would have the biggest aftershock. At one point, quite amazingly and relatively recently, Bitcoin Gold had higher volumes than Bitcoin.

There'll be a reasonable ripple perhaps but then it'll be shrugged off. South Korea is no great loss.

That's a very quaint set of beliefs he has. A wonderful blast from the past.

I reckon he'll be back in nappies before an investment in 'blockchain' ever turns a profit, let alone repays an investor. Good luck to him all the same.
