Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just joined the "one millionth of the bitcoin economy" club

Earlier today I started to feel sorry for myself for spending a bunch of coins last year (but got myself some kick-ass AR-15 parts), because I now see the jump to $60+. But then as I thought more about it, the fact that I did that was helpful in a small way to the bitcoin economy. I helped it grow, even at a tiny fraction. It's all of us, using it, that helps it become legitimate, and I still think I'm considered an early adopter. Although that line is quickly approaching to mainstream. So now I'm back up to 8 (I'm a slow miner) and hopefully soon I'll rejoin the one millionth of the bitcoin economy club.

Well considering that their face value is 1 BTC, kicking in an extra BTC knowing they're going to be worth even more down the road is incentive. I'm actually considering parting with mine... but I'm still able to talk myself out of it

Economy / Goods / [SOLD] blued Ek Commando EK Model 4 dagger $200

***knife is no longer available, sold***This blade was from a limited 500 unit run of solid blue blade. There are minor scratches on the blade but just cosmetic. It's never been used, so I suspect the blemishes are from my various moves and perhaps rubbing on something during said moves or a drop, but I honestly don't know.. I think I got it in '94. No original box, I would send it in it's sheath in a USPS box. Steel is 1095 and hardness at 58rc. The tang is a full tang (runs the full length of the knife and width) which adds to the usefulness for helping balance and effectiveness, and is wrapped in (I believe) paracord. I'm asking $200 (payable in equivalent btc) and this will include the price of shipping to US addresses. Ek knives were made with the military in mind, and are built tough. The sheath has a ring on the bottom for tying a lanyard (lanyard not included) to tie around your leg to help keep it from flopping about while you run.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What items, not readily available, would you like to see offered for Bitcoin?

I'd settle for an automated system wherein someone sent in BTC to a webpage and it spit back out an amazon gift code. As it stands now I can trade BTC to users for gift codes, and for the time being I like that, but something automated on a trusted system would rock. But not at an inflated rate, it would have to be straight-up value exchange. I say this because there are folks in the btc world who still like to charge a premium, and it shouldn't be that way anymore. Right now I can trade btc for amazon gift cards with a user who will trade at a value for more than I give him. For instance, if I give him 1 btc at $20, he'll give me a card worth $22. I only mention this because, in my opinion, the days of inflated btc for goods should be over for it to have a future.

Bitcoin / Mining / suggestions on how to rent my hardware
|

Ok, so here's the scenario. I'll have 2 ASICs coming in soon, and one of my friends wants to get into mining and might get on the waiting list for a BFL. I am thinking of offering him to rent one of my mine until he gets one. How would you all suggest for a fair rate of use/rent?
I don't mind doing a net-zero amount (just so I don't lose out of income). Would you suggest maybe a percentage, and then when he gets his ASIC I get a percentage of his until we're "even" for the same amount of days that it takes for his to arrive? (maybe have the percentages flip-flop) Or what are people doing this days for rent?

They likely won't, however, since rebuild kits are legal (even in California!) so that you can repair your existing mags.

Can anyone suggest the right flags to use with the december version of GUIminer and an HD7970? I am running it on mine, with good speeds, but it will routinely stop working for a second or 2 once a share is submitted, causing my miner to pause until it begins a new share. I've never seen it do this on my other rigs running 5970's.
It will give the "warning, job finished, Tahiti is idle" and then jump back to hashing shortly after.
For flags I run -v 1 -w 256 I dunno what is the best, but that's what I ran with diablo's miner

I calculate profitability after the split with my GPUs,
You would be in the extreme minority then. What do you pay for electricity? I ran the numbers and find that about $0.11 per kWh is breakeven on the most efficient GPU configurations. So unless you are paying like $0.07 per kWh or less there's no point in GPU mining after block 210,000 (unless difficulty takes a dive from other GPU miners dropping out). I pay only $.023 per kWh, and that's set to be the peak power in the middle of winter. So I'll continue mining with my 7970s Nice to live in the boonies with cheap power
