461  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What's your shutdown point? on: October 24, 2011, 09:49:39 PM
my shutdown point is only when bit coin someday dies.  I have it going while I'm not gaming, like I did with folding@home and, before that, SETI@home.

This at least gives me some return on investment. Wink

I'm only running for the cool concept of bit coins, and to maybe buy an upgrade to my gaming rig.

If folding@home ever started paying similar payouts, I'd probably go back to it, since it's also helping to advance medicine. Smiley
462  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: #OccupyWallStreet Idea - Massive promotion on: October 07, 2011, 06:59:26 PM
I'm happy to contribute a decent amount of Bitcoins as well.

I didn't see it mentioned,  but I don't think using Instawallet is the best idea for this.
Any Bitcoins at unclaimed URLs will be lost.

Lets make this project happen!

Simple, whomever creates the links keep a copy.  I assume this person will be honest anyway since they're probably the ones using some of their own money.  At some point in the future check each one, maybe a year?.  If there's an amount anything other the original amount, then delete that URL on your list since it had activity and someone showed interest (or if the amount is zero).  If it's still the same exact amount, reclaim it back. Smiley
463  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll about bitcoin tipping on: October 01, 2011, 03:59:10 AM
But I've never received a tip.

fixed Wink

omg, thank you!  I just got it.  You totally made my day.  Grin
464  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll about bitcoin tipping on: October 01, 2011, 03:22:53 AM
i think i've tipped more times than i can count, because i'd rather tip many people a small amount than tip a few people a big amount.

receiving 0.02 is infinitely better than receiving 0.

I agree!  It's like finding $5 in your winter jacket a year later. Smiley  But I've never received a tip.
465  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Google Wallet, NFC, and bitcoin discussion on: September 23, 2011, 07:19:47 PM
So, with the Google Wallet launch (for androids with NFC), and rumors of the iPhone 5 possibly having NFC, how trivial would it be to add bitcoin support for transactions?    Having a bitcoin wallet app that utilized such feature would be F-ing sweet.

Obviously it would need support for clicking on a "yes send this payment" lest you be robbed of your bit coins, but I see potential here!!

Of course if you knew what you were gonna buy, you could transfer just a set amount instead of your whole btw wallet.

Thoughts?  Opinions?
466  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is this a security issue? Massive worker un & pw list found through google ... on: September 22, 2011, 03:41:38 PM
oh holy hell, I hope people didn't use these logins/passwords for their mtgox account.  I'm glad I'm not on the list Wink   But if I we're, the only thing I have on mtgox right now is .0034 btc
467  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: BTC Price drop, huge cut in Pool Hash Rate on: September 11, 2011, 06:16:59 PM
I'm still going!  I used to do SETI@home and then folding@home.  So I wasted my electricity for shit that didn't return any money.  So I'm still in for an indefinite amount of time.
468  Other / Off-topic / wanted: Firefall beta invite on: September 07, 2011, 07:40:38 PM
anyone have a Firefall beta invite they're willing to share?   Grin
469  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How many people have bought rigs for free through bitcoins they've earned? on: September 06, 2011, 06:49:49 PM
I have a pair of 5770s, so I'm slowly mining, but my coins are being used for putting together a new gaming machine.  I'm getting together things like case/power-supply and things like that right now that don't lose value as quickly and can last a few years as-is, and then will try to earn roughly $1000 worth of coins overtime to get a kick-ass (or pair of kick-ass) video cards, and then maybe a new proc/mobo/ram around that time, too.

My wife doesn't like my gaming hobby, so this is legit since to her I'm not spending "real" money (minus electricity costs)
470  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: These guys are UNBELIEVABLE. on: September 02, 2011, 06:54:06 PM
Now the real fun will begin... The fuckers are feeling threated by Bitcoin. It's a huge day for Bitcoin, believe me.

Believe me.  They can't do anything about it.

They could, however, start buying it up to get rid of bit coins.  I imagine if the price keeps going down, they'll do that exact thing, in an attempt to side-lining the project and destroying the coins that they buy.

Now, this could have the effect of raising bit coin prices so that fractions of a coin become just as valuable as well.  Who knows, we'll see!
471  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: giving out Demonoid.me invites on: September 02, 2011, 06:31:20 PM
apparently demonoid isn't as popular as it once was?  I'm not actively watching this thread anymore, so send me a PM and if I run out of invites I'll say here

473  Economy / Invites & Accounts / giving out Demonoid.me invites on: August 26, 2011, 03:59:29 PM
The first 11 people to respond will get a demonoid.me invite for free.

I, of course, would never turn down tips. Wink   You might not get the code right away, since I'm at work and have a wedding rehearsal tonight and wedding tomorrow, but if you're one of the first 11 people to respond you *will* get your invite code in the next few days.  I will send them via PM, unless you specify an email in your response.

Note, I wouldn't suggest posting an email publicly, unless you make it hard for a bot (like posting something like tonto at i dot am dot awesome dot come or something like that Wink

Also note that demonoid.me does have ratios, so try to maintain a 1:1 ratio if possible, lest your account (and maybe even mine) gets warned or banned.

I would also suggest using an app like "PeerGuardian" for Mac or "PeerBlock" for PC to lower your chances of RIAA, MIAA, etc detecting your sharing.   Most bit torrent clients have an option to stop seeding once you've reached your ratio, if your bandwidth is limited (like mine), but please please try to maintain ratio Smiley
474  Economy / Gambling / Bitcoinduit 33% ROI! on: August 23, 2011, 01:04:06 PM
I started one up for shits and grins

33% ROI, with a jackpot.  I just discovered bitcoinduit yesterday, and it's kinda fun Cheesy

475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [bitcoinduit] Not long left! on: August 23, 2011, 03:40:21 AM
is the payout always guaranteed?   Or is it a gamble?   At this moment I can't afford more than .1 (can't risk it), but if the payout is guaranteed I might be willing to pay more Wink

[edit, just as I finished typing this I noticed the previous post, but I'll leave as is for now]

[second edit:  ok I get it now.  Seems fun, and I may play more Smiley  ]
476  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Stealth Runner - Runs applications hidden during PC Idle on: August 22, 2011, 04:54:30 AM
a stealth miner that only runs when the computer is idle is probably the best solution for what I'm looking for. Smiley
477  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: running miners in stealth mode? on: August 21, 2011, 01:48:45 PM
Running a bitcoin miner on a company computer is theft.  It's misuse of company resources and theft of electricity.

And you know this.

If it's not theft, if it's not wrong, why were you asking how to hide it?

Bitcoin has enough bad press, enough people who think it's a scam, enough people who think it's shady, without you doing shady things with with it.

Again, if what you are planning is NOT shady, then why are you asking how to hide it?  Why do you admit you might get fired if they found out?

What you plan is wrong and you know it.

Good Lord, yes, it's wrong.  So are all the things I mentioned above.  Why did no one give this much shit to the guy who admitted to stealing electricity at the expense of your (our) tax dollars?   Since he's military (well I think he is), does that make it right or something?  He's doing the exact same thing that I'm doing, except not at his company.   My way affects you nil (other than helping to raise the difficulty by about .000001%.

478  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: running miners in stealth mode? on: August 21, 2011, 03:30:20 AM
I run a space heater during the winter and a fan during the summer.  That's "stealing" of resources, too.  I also write personal notes on company-purchased sticky-notes, I read Facebook during the day (and the reading of Facebook is not one of my job duties), and I stop to talk to the cute secretary nearly every day, wasting a good ten minutes of both our work-day.

I'm willing to bet 99.9% of anyone reading these forums does any of these things, all considered "stealing" company resources.
479  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: running miners in stealth mode? on: August 20, 2011, 03:06:27 PM
So people who write proof-of-concept viruses are out to do harm, too?   Are people who speed out to cause anarchy?  Jesus, if you *must* know, I have *one* machine at work that I was thinking of putting a miner on.  This machine can only do about 100Mhash/sec, so I don't know why you're going on this huge crusade.

I'm not looking to write any bots, I haven't coded anything significant since 1993.   There, you can all sleep at night now.    Christ, a simple "yes or no" would have sufficed.
480  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: This is just getting nuts on: August 19, 2011, 09:50:14 PM
I don't quite understand why people are still buying mining hardware. Currently it will take about a minimum of 4 months to pay off one card.

I understand the ROI for those professional miners, but for the casual guy like myself?  I'll get a 6990 as soon as I have enough bit coins to afford one, since my *primary* desire is for gaming, but the mining to "pay for it" is just a bonus, basically giving me a "free" gaming machine (once all my parts are added up).

If the gravy train some day dies, then I'll have my gaming machine still Cheesy
