On a side note, does merge mining cause a brand to lose its value? Forgive me, as I don't have any knowledge around this area. In other words, if DGB merge mines with DOGE, does it create more of an issue for DGB to become a standard in the crypto world since we are now under the DOGE umbrella? If so, I would not want to do that.

342  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NDL - The coin for Pastafarians - Flying Spaghetti Monster Cryptocurrency! on: June 10, 2014, 10:59:19 PM
ok ndl is definatly dead. Sold my 3 mio NDL for peanuts. What a sad story.
Where did you sell it? Is there any NDL exchange left?

No sorry haggis, the only exchange use to be cryptorush.in, but that site got hacked and has closed down. Or the dev was a scammer. Anyway I guess your 100mio NDLs are totally worthless now.
Damm and the beautiful Logo I made - I think you should pay me in BTC for my hard Logo work. 0.1 BTC would be a fair price I think. What do you say?
I had 40m or so and sold it just before CR crashed for a ridiculous low price and then needed to buy other coins 3-5x overpriced just to get some with working withdrawal. What a drama lol. But I can't/don't want to pay again for the competition - it was for this coin. There's never a guarantee a coin will succeed, sorry.

Either way a hard fork is required. We want to avoid back to back hard forks. The biggest issue is that we need to have mining infrastructure in place at the exact block switch. So why not kill all three birds at once with only 1 hard fork.

Also keep in mind people will have to mine DigiByte to get myriad. Not the other way around. It is one sided.
Well, at the end you have the authority to decide. I don't think we can find a consensus about this topic. There are no major coins with mm beside namecoin so we can't learn from previous experiences here, which is always more risky than the other way.

However, if DGB stays the main coin with mm then we should have enough community members / believers mining it. Could be worth a try, but I can't contribute more thoughts on this from now on due to lack of experience/knowledge.

We want to clarify what merge mining means. When we say merge that means miners have the ability to mine two coins at once. The coins and chains themselves stay completely separate. Transactions stay independent of each other. So does each coins respected value.

It is a much more efficient use of your miners. You will use less electricity and get much more for your hash.

The next evolution of crypto currency mining will be merge-mined multi pools. They are already being developed. This means a coin does not have a choice and will be automatically merge mined with other coins.

Look at namecoin, it is still in the top 10 and has been merge mined for years.
Looks as you prefer merged mining over a stand-alone implementation Smiley
But I'm still interested in the following question: does merged-mining with MYR require to implement multi-algo first? It sounds reasonable to me. If a coin already has multi-algo and want to switch to merged-mining, is then a hardfork required?

What do you all think about merge-mining with Myriadcoin?

Idiotic idea, pools will dump DGB to the hell because only small amount of MYR miners will claim their FREE DGB coins. Check MON price charts, pools are dumping it regardless of a price. You will kill this coin offering merged-mining, all your efforts will be buried.
I wouldn't call it "idiotic" but I also think this would pin a "Discount" label on DGB. Better finish multi-algo implementation asap. If the chain stays slow for 2-4 days longer it doesn't hurt that hard as there is still only low activity on the blockchain.

If it goes multi-algo dev must calculate initial difficulty for each algo and do something with readjustment to avoid instamine by SHA ASICs, FPGA farms, etc...
This is what DigiShield does, the difficulty adjustment code will be adjusted as needed. This is not an issue. Nor is it how multi-algo works. Each algo can only find so many blocks in a row before the other algos must find one. Each algos difficulty is adjusted independently.

What type of algos will you have in place? The same as Myriad coin or different?
In the interest of time we may stick with the same for the time being. We are the first coin to ever fork to multi-algo. It is very complicated to implement. We were planning on doing this over a couple months. We are now forced to try and do this in a few days to a couple weeks.

Otherwise our only option is to do back to back hard forks which is no where near ideal or feasible.
Is merged-mining easier/quicker to implement than a standalone multi-algo? Or is the multi-algo implementation nevertheless needed for merged-mining?

347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Cinni | PoS | No premine | No IPO on: June 09, 2014, 09:01:47 PM
***Sneak-peak Update***

Here is a basic breakdown of how Cinni's anon Encrypted Messaging feature will work (An in-depth explanation will be provided later tonight with release of the white paper):

Cinnicoin Encrypted Messaging Details:

Basic Method:
  • The Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) key exchange method is used to share a secret key between the sender and receiver.
  • The sender generates the secret key using a newly generated random private key and the recipient's public key.
  • The payload is encrypted using SHA256 with the first 32 bytes of the SHA512 hash of the secret key.
  • If not sending anonymously the sender's address and compact signature are included in the payload.
  • The encrypted payload and the public key of the newly generated keypair are sent to the recipient. The recipient generates the same secret key with their private key that matches the public key used by the sender and the public key included in the message.
  • The payload is decrypted using the hashed secret key.
  • The encrypted messages are stored on the filesytem in buckets by time and distributed to all nodes.
  • It is not possible to tell the sender or receiver of the message from the encrypted message without having the private key of the recipient. [1]
  • The messages are stored for 48 hours and are then deleted.
  • Each node checks every message received from the network against all the addresses it owns. If a match is found a copy of the encrypted message is stored in the node's inbox database.

Additional Features:
  • When not sending anonymously the sender's compact signature not only verifies that the message came from the owner of the address, but also enables the public key to be recovered allowing the recipient to reply even if the sender's address has no public key in the blockchain.
  • Incoming transaction blocks are scanned for public keys.

(Again, this is just a basic explanation of what is already implemented in the wallet to be released this week.  A screen-cap video that demos & explains Cinni's EM feature will be released shortly alongside the WP)
Thank you very much! I think we can discuss about details once the whitepaper is released.
Just one thinking: the storage time of messages should not be fixed at 48hrs. Especially if this system will be used by merchants in any way you cannot guarantee it will be processed within 48 hrs (on both sides of the trade). Maybe the timeframe should be extensible by paying extra 0.01 CINNI or similar?
348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NHZ] - NeXT Horizon|distributed by bounties|HARD FORK @BLOCK 65k!|Poloniex on: June 09, 2014, 02:51:19 PM
How many confirmations are needed before starting forging?

1440 confirmations

1 confirmation per block
One block is generated every minute, so 24 hours.

But forgeing is not our aim.. you will recieve 666 NHZ per day running a node. It will give you alot more than forgeing. If you have 1M on your account you might recieve 20 NHZ per day on averge depening on the amount transferred in each block.

Need to correct this, it's only 40 confirmations with NHZ.

Forging will get more profitable over time, when more transactions happen. You should really make use of the node bounties as long as they are available (if your ip doesn't change every day...) Smiley

Is there already an end planned for the node bounties? I mean, before all the coins are distrbuted?
Node bounties could continue for 100years and there will still be coins left in the bounty wallets...
349  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Cinni | PoS | No premine | No IPO on: June 08, 2014, 09:12:06 AM
Perhaps make at least 0.0025 - 0.003 btc/mhs/day..
I think this is not possible. There's barely any multipool that provides 0.002 or more: http://poolpicker.eu/

I think it would be great to have a DGB - USD exchange setup on your site just like coinbase for BTC. Maybe make it easier for people to use, like accepting paypal? There's kind of a large annoying wall people have to break through just to get into crypto currencies. Making it easy for people to cross that barrier would definitely increase adoption of DGB.
This is in the works as we speak!
Do you think this will help us spreading to the world?
Not directly. But it's a requirement to make further adoption by merchants and customers even possible.
351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Cinni | PoS | No premine | No IPO on: June 07, 2014, 10:34:41 PM
Encrypted messaging is an absolute killer feature for itself. It enables so much services you can utilize for daily business. The borders for possibilities are just your mind. Really curios what consequences this will have for the development of future crypto currency usage.
I think most people can't recognize what EM realy means because they always just think about chatting and nothing else.
352  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: June 07, 2014, 10:26:40 AM
Why should XNM be more international than NEM? Is NEM national in any way? I don't get it...
Personaly I dislike the "X" naming hype very hard. Makes absolutely no sense.
353  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] ✈ DigiShield ✔ v2.9.1 ✔ Multi-Algo mining coming soon! on: June 07, 2014, 02:18:22 AM
So after more research we have discovered a possible issue with the Bitcoin Core 0.9.1 code we implemented. This block delay issue does not appear to be related to DigiShield but how the 0.9.1 code was implemented.

The issue did not show up until several mining pools had updated. It appears a new multi-pool more recently updated to 2.9.1 and since they have most of the hash we are getting these delayed block times.

We are going to test out a few more things and compare code bases to make sure. The good news is if this is the issue we will not have to do a hard-fork to get the blockchain back on track. We will work on rolling out an update ASAP.
Nice catch! And good to hear we can expect a fix soon. It's a very important task to get the coin back on track and focus on adoption Smiley
354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Datacoin blockchain start announcement (Minor code upd + logo) on: June 06, 2014, 06:04:28 PM
Do you think the one day the entire internet could be hosted on datacoin?  I know there will be a limited amount of space on the datacoin blockchain, but if you create like a megadatacoin fork that can store 1000x as much data per coin that can only be created by combining 1000 datacoins for a fee that goes back to the miners, could you extend datacoin storage capacity to infinity while keeping the strict limits in place for mining them?  You could create gigadatacoins and teradatacoins along the same 1000x protocol too.  How big of a fee could there have to be for such a datacoin 1000x upgrade to sustain the storage capacity of all data on the internet today?
No. The "Internet" cant be stored and this will never be possible.
I don't see why the internet can't be stored.  After all, the internet is just data going from one place to another and datacoin is designed to store data.  Wouldn't it really just be a matter of scaling datacoin to that level with the right programmers?  I think one day the whole internet will be on datacoin and every time you transfer some data across the internet you would pay a fee to upload to the blockchain from your datacoin balance.  The new datacoin hosted internet would be way faster, more efficient, and allow more freedom.  It would be so much better that the old internet would not be used anymore.  You wouldn't have to worry about not having enough datacoin to contribute to the internet because an advertiser could donate some datacoin to you to watch their ad and then you could use that earned datacoin to contribute.
Could be possible if someone has a petahash/s internet connection and an uncountable amount of storage available  Roll Eyes

When will the coins be swapped to the new ones?

OCdev has V2 in testing phase now, and my target for deployment is for this Sunday, or early next week at the latest...assuming there are no snags during testing  Roll Eyes

Do we need to send all coins to an exchange for the swap or can it also happen if they stay in our wallets?

So many people don't understand this, it blows my mind. Gpus can only go so far, even with x11/qrk and the like.

Think of GPUs as though they are people. That's your user base. The argument behind ASIC resistant is not to fight efficiency, rather it is to support a widely distributed user base. Everyone has a computer (well, not everyone, but you get the idea) and they are multitasking (that's why "everyone" has one). ASICs are specialized, and, by definition, your average man on the street will never have one (they can't do other practical things that the average man wants), and that means that you say goodbye to universal adoption, as in KYSGB.

Efficiency is good, but not at the cost of your widely distributed user base, that is if you want to survive.

Why do you think so much emphasis is being given to CPU mining by those energy efficient algos out there? Would it be that they're looking to be even more inclusive still?

And the anonymity bit, I mean, get off it. That will never fly long term. What regulator is going to allow that? And why wouldn't you want your name stamped on your money anyway? It's mine, and I want it to say so - especially if it's robbed so I can get it back (but that's another issue, for another day - we've got to take baby steps, one at a time  Wink ).

AHH AHH AHH in the 1900's Oil lamp users had a HUGE user base...20 yrs later, not many ppl used em. In 1900 flying from point A to point B was impossible.. now you cant look up w/o seeing an airplane almost. 15 Years ago, talking on a phone in your car was a pipe dream.. now we have them in our pockets. Do not discount technology ever. This IS business, not some get rich quick scheeme.
How the hell are oil lamps and planes related to cryptocoin hashing? You compare apples and oranges, seriously.  Roll Eyes

I'm glad DGB has DigiShield. Otherwise one block would take a couple of days after such hashing spike.

With growing popularity more hashing power is coming automatically. However, hashing power alone is no indicator for safety. More important is the delta of hashrate of best mining hardware and average distributed hardware. So ASIC coins are more centralized and therefore I like CPU/GPU only coins more in terms of safety and fairness.

I like how all the dumpers are now coming out of their holes after they sold < 7k. This is what you get if you have no patience.
Sorry if that sounds cynic, but I have no mercy here.

CINNI has a plan for the future which is thought very well. The devs are reliable and I'm sure they will realize it in more or less the given eta.
