Kissmyweb.com is delighted to offer webdesign services for Devcoin (and Bitcoin)

Kissmyweb.com is not a new business, we have been around for 8 years - we are not a big business, "we" are me and a group of freelance awesome guys who do custom code when I need it - and we are not a complicated business, you deal with the person working on your site directly.

I also write copy if needed, (separate from Kissmyweb.com) and accept devcoins as payment.
Super! I'll add your site to devcoin.org under the Spend DVC section - I'm finishing up the next round of updates now.
522  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcurex.com - official thread on: January 05, 2014, 02:01:39 PM
I've been using these guys for over one year without any problems at all. I've deposited BTC a couple of times over the last month, sold them, transferred the money to my bitcurex card a and then withdrew from an atm in my local currency - everything worked perfectly.

Yes, their support is non-existent but apparently they will be adding more staff.

So it is definitely not a scam. To those having problems logging in, this actually got me before - on the login page, it says to use your email address OR username to login. I discovered that you CANNOT use your email - it doesn't work. You must use your username only!

Hope this helps!

+1 to everything you said, except for the logging in. I can log in fine with my email address, FWIW.

Hmmm, that is very interesting - for some reason I can only login with my username. The site definitely needs refining and their support needs major improvement but I do believe that Bitcurex plans on making things better and sticking around - definitely not a scam.

I can understand people's frustrations though - it seems that there are many cryptocurrency-related sites out there with no support at all (meaning they will certainly take  your deposits, but if you encounter a problem, there is nobody out there to help you). Nothing you can do but play it safe and stick to numerous small deposits as opposed to larger ones - this tactic has saved me many times over the years.

BTC38 was going to implement Quark but volume was too large and they delayed the trading. When their system is ready for that volume they will add it. It's a great time to stock up on Quarks after the big crash of pretty much everything in december. Quark is one of my top 3 bets in the year to come.

volume to large?

I wish that was the case. But have you looked at the volume of quark at vircurex.com lately? It rarely is more than 10 BTC a day...

At the moment it's only at 2.7 BTC...

 Embarrassed

Georgem, yes, Vircurex does have low volume but they are just a small fish. Have a look here:

http://www.cryptmarketcap.com/

Quark is listed as having 102 BTC volume over the last day.

The only coins with a higher volume are Bitcoin, Litecoin and surprisingly, Dogecoin and Worldcoin.

Yes, I understand, but I have seen atleast 40 BTC at vircurex with quark a while ago (2 weeks or so).

People probably prefer cryptsy at the moment, because of the higher liquidity.

Should cryptsy have those lags and serverproblems again then more volume will switch to vircurex again.

It's good to have many exchanges.

Hmm, I didn't realize the volume was that high before at Vircurex. Well, we definitely need more exchanges - as soon as a QRK/USD exchange comes out I have no doubt volume will pick up dramatically.

Collecting bounty for:

Quote
36 shares for a price ticker in a forum.

I made an SMF mod to do just this. Demo can be seen here:

162.243.37.115 (Just a vanilla vps, I wasn't going to grab a domain for a demo)

I've submitted the mod to SMF since I'll be building it out for other coins in the future. I guess it takes some time for them to approve it so I uploaded a copy of the mod to dropbox too:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/591u0hd7sqgaa4g/dvcticker.tar.gz
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=3819

It updates every 5 seconds and is linked to crypto-trade.com's devcoin section.

Also I'm looking to get on the marketing share list. I put a banner on the main page of dvcticker.info and the chart subpages. I PM'd the person mentioned on devtome but haven't heard anything back.

Great job on the ticker tenthirtyone! I am working on adding it to devcoin.org right now. I made one small edit -  currently the anchor tag to cryptotrade wraps around a div tag which is valid in HTML5 only (so it might cause problems in some browsers). Just change this line:

$("#dvcPrice").text($out);

to this:

$("#dvcPrice").html('<a href="https://www.crypto-trade.com/trade/dvc_btc">'+$out+'</a>');

and remove the anchor tag around the dvcPrice div.

Thanks again for creating it!

Also, not sure if there's still a bounty on this, but I decided to post my user experience with http://dvc4giftcards.us anyway:

review for http://dvc4giftcards.us/

With some of the kindly tips I've received for the dvccountdown, I managed to have enough dvc in my pocket to purchase a $1 amazon gift card, which I was going to use to discount an amazon purchase I was planning on making. The site was well presented, and easy to purchase from, but I missed the bit where I was supposed to write a note to the seller. My brain just completely missed the text block, and I think that was because the big cards drew my focus away from it - perhaps it would be better presented another way, like a message box or something just before going to the payment window. Regarding that oversight, I assumed (hoped) the gift card would just be sent to my email address by default, and overnight I received an email from the site admin. It turns out they had seen that I was from .au, and the gift cards were only usable on the US store. I was asked whether I still wanted the card, or a refund, and took the sensible option considering I was looking at something on my local amazon. The next time I want something from the US store (which I do from time to time), and I have DVC to burn, I had a pleasant enough experience to try this site again. For larger purchases, though, I think would prefer bigger denominations than the $1 or $10 to save some time.

I came across this site while I was working on the "Spend DVC" section on devcoin.org but I intentionally left it out because my WOT (Web of Trust) plugin flagged it as untrustworthy:

https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/dvc4giftcards.us/event-29965#events

There is a claim that the site was involved with phishing.

I am working on updates to devcoin.org now.... what do people think - should it be added?
528  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [SHS] Shares [Second Generation Crypto Currency] [Project Announcement] on: January 04, 2014, 05:11:14 PM
This is the most painfully obvious scam I've seen on this forum to date.

All you suckers who sent in money, what the fuck are you thinking?

I was just saying to my friend that this is the best way to release a scam coin, getting money upfront and having pretend users saying they have put btc into it. Look I am not saying this is the case but
if I were to do a scam coin this is probably the best way to do it.

Not to Hi-Jack this thread but wait for some iCoin news coming out this week. Something real Smiley

The scam accusations that get thrown around these forums have really become ridiculous. I recommend you familiarize yourself with "Occam's Razor":

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s_razor

Occam's Razor states that among competing hypotheses, the hypothesis with the fewest assumptions should be selected.

Hypothesis #1:

User "Block_Erupter" creates an account 5 months ago with the intention of defrauding people
Block_Erupter then spends a total of 4 days and 17 hours on this forum posting 248 times
Block_Erupter then proceeds to create his own coin called Frozen
Block_Erupter then creates a fake story about Chinese developers and a new crypto so he can collect BTC and defraud users of this forum
Block_Erupter then creates fake accounts and/or pays people to state they have invested in the new project

Hypothesis #2:

Block_Erupter, a cryptocurrency enthusiast who has already created his own coin, was approached by Chinese devs who asked him to be the spokesperson for their new project. Anyone is free to partake in the presale or not.

Which hypothesis makes less assumptions?

Tip #2: Always look at possible motivation behind the scam accusing poster

Hazard has a cryptocurrency review site where he is trying to sell memberships. Someone else comes along saying this could very well be a scam and then casually tries to steer you towards another cryptocurrency.

The best tip you will ever get - don't listen to me, and most definitely don't listen to these guys. If I listened to people, I would never have made any money. They told me I was falling for a scam when I was buying BTC at $3. They told me I was falling for a scam when I bought PPC at 30 cents. When I bought 1 million QRK for $500 this summer, someone literally told me I might as well flushed my money down the toilet.

Do your own research, listen to your own mind and gut and ignore 99% of the people out there who are simply looking out for their own best interests while pretending to give you advice or do you some sort of favour.

Happy New Year everyone! I'm working on the next revision of devcoin.org now - I've compiled all the feedback everyone left and will be making a bunch of updates - I'll provide a list once v2 is ready.

I truly believe Devcoin is going to have a very strong 2014. I've been thinking about ways that we can help take Devcoin to the next level and there are two people I think we should reach out to:

1) Mark Shuttleworth (founder of Canonical, creators of Ubuntu Linux)

2) Richard Branson

They are both space traveling philanthropists who I have no doubt would absolutely love everything that Devcoin stands for.

I'd be more than happy to prepare a Powerpoint deck on Devcoin that we could send off to Mark and Richard. I'd start with the highlights that are currently on the slider on devcoin.org (funding open source projects and artists, allowing anyone with the desire to work to earn devcoins from writing, open source spaceship). Seriously, what's not to love? It's just a matter of getting the material in front of them.

530  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 30, 2013, 09:58:33 PM
At around 7 pence per quark it really isn't out of the reach of anyone to buy and hold some for the medium / long term, so called "second generation coins" like emunie will launch at 10 cents per coin right out of the gate.

Anyone involved in crypto currency's must have noticed the tidal wave of interest building which is going to make 2014 an incredible year for Bitcoin and many alts.

Really to those who's strategy it is to atempt to denigrate another coin in the hopes of shifting market share from that coin to your coin of choice should think twice it reflects badly on the whole altcoin market making it look childish to say the least. Try and reach outside the bitcointalk community all this infighting looks really ugly - my coins better than your coin....... Come on  Grin

Well said - I notice the Veteran members tend to make more sense -

i didn't know this about emuni  i have not been keeping up with it -

interesting -

eMunie is gonna be huge! Dan Hughes the developer is the real deal - this isn't some copy and paste jokecoin, it really is the next gen of cryptocurrencies!

I totally agree with Mjbmonetarymetals's prediction about 2014 being an incredible year for Bitcoin and many alts. I truly believe there is going to be a full blown tidal wave of money pouring into cryptocurrencies and many good alts will skyrocket. Quark is definitely at the top of my list, as is eMunie, Peercoin and Devcoin (I love the philosophy behind Devcoin, where the generated coins go to funding open source projects and artists).

Basically, anyone hopping on board the cryptocurrency train now has an extremely good chance of seeing some truly staggering returns over the years ahead. It's as simple as diversifying your portfolio between a couple of good cryptocurrencies and then buckling your seatbelt for what is surely to be a wild ride.

1. Doge to the Moon Cheesy I am serious. It will go up in waves of moonraces...
2. Nxt - no inflation... it is sentenced to success like real gold.
3. eMunie - bit potential for nice start

+1 ! emunie is going to be huge! for those who haven't heard of it, check out the features:

My bets are on emunie, quark, and devcoin. i will also add zerocoin if/when it is released.
537  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 24, 2013, 12:40:16 PM
If you already have Quarks, hold on to them for dear life. If you don't, buy some ASAP! The future is bright for a number of good cryptocurrencies, and Quark is at the top of the list.

Why? The cryptocurrency market is still relatively small - the CEO of Secondmarket (who's already raised over 60 million for his Bitcoin fund) predicts that within 3-6 months, hundreds of millions of Wall Street money is going to pour into Bitcoin. I have absolutely no doubt this will happen, it's just a matter of when. Money into Bitcoin will "float all boats" as they say, so many good cryptocurrencies will rise significantly.

Even the Wall Street money didn't come along, the amount of development behind Quark alone (QRK/USD exchanges, marketplaces) will certainly cause Quark to rise by itself.

Finally, there are many "black swans" floating out there in the world - there are a ton of possible events which could further destabilize the traditional financial industry and cause cryptocurrencies to skyrocket like Bitcoin did after Cyprus.

Someone also mentioned Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. I'd love to add social media icons to the footer of devcoin.org... I know there is a great YouTube video already out there, but I don't believe it is maintained on an "official" Devcoin channel.

May I propose that we find someone to take the role of "Social Media Administrator" for Devcoin who's job will be to oversee and maintain official Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages?
539  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: December 22, 2013, 11:07:40 AM
Thanks for the website feedback everyone! I've gone through all the comments and came up with the following list of proposed updates as well as questions for the Devcoin community.

New Top Menu Items

Community - Should I just link to this forum thread on Bitcointalk? Someone asked if there is going to be a forum on devcoin.org. I haven't heard of any plans for this (wasn't there already a forum that didn't receive too much traffic?) The problem with having our own forum is that things will become fragmented with some people posting on the new forum while others (probably the majority) will still end up posting here.

I think it's ok to just make the "Community" link point to this thread but one thing we really need to do is clean up the multiple threads on Bitcointalk. If you Google Devcoin, you find one Devcoin link on BTT that's closed and points you to another thread that's closed and that one finally points you here. At the very least, the first posts of both those other threads should be updated with a link that points directly to this thread.

FAQs - We definitely need to add FAQs to the site. Weisoq said he is maintaining a list of FAQs here:

http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_faq

I can either transfer the FAQs to the new site myself and then make updates as required OR if Weisoq wishes to maintain the FAQs, I can come up with a way to AJAX them into devcoin.org from his site. In my opinion, it would be better to host the FAQs directly on devcoin.org as opposed to interfacing with another domain.

Wallet Downloads

giftculturewriting posted a link to a new Devcoin wallet here:

http://media.andarazoroflove.org/Devcoin-Installer.exe

Should this link overwrite the current link for "Devcoin Setup Exe Windows32"?

Also, notice that the majority of the wallets are hosted on a domain called "21stcenturymoneytalk", and a couple are on box.com. The 21stcenturymoneytalk links are better as they point directly to the file so once the user clicks on it the download is initiated (as opposed to box.com where the user is taken to a download page). Is there anyway we can be consistent and have ALL the wallet downloads (except maybe the source) hosted on the same server where I can point to the files directly?

Also, the domain "21stcenturymoneytalk" might be a turnoff to some users. Personally, I'd love to see all the downloads hosted directly on devcoin.org.

Round Payout Info Page

Sidhujag asked about how the Round Payout Info will be updates on the "Earnings and Payouts" tab. I just found this info on a static web page, so if it is being updated somewhere, please send me the link and I can look into pulling it into devcoin.org automatically.

Sidhujag - As for the iPhone issue, I can look into it but it might not be fixable as the slider and the site layout are all based on the standard "Bootstrap" template made famous by Twitter. Twitter has spent years testing and tweaking Bootstrap, so if there is a small layout issue like the one you describe, it might be within their acceptable definition of "degrading gracefully". The main thing is that there isn't any loss of content. I'll check into it anyway...

What's New / New Bounties

Sidhujag also asked if we could add a section for What's New and/or New Bounties.

Currently there are links to the bounty pages on both Devtome and Cryptostocks on the "Get Devcoins" page. If people feel this does not stand out enough, I can create a new heading or even a separate tab but I don't think they warrant their own page as bounties fall under the main heading of "Get DVC". Don't forget that the top nav space is limited - there's no way I could add "Community", "FAQs" AND a "Bounties" link - the top nav would become much too cluttered.

Text / Link Updates

A couple of users posted some new links or minor text edits which look good to me so I will go ahead and make the updates.
540  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 22, 2013, 12:26:30 AM
slowly i am losing my trust to quark  Cry

I am not surprised. Like 95% of people who post FUD about Quark, your account was registered less than 2 weeks ago and all of your other posts are regarding Dogecoin. What I really would like to know is how many of you are there. I mean, I'm starting to wonder if there are just 10 or 20 of you guys out there with like 50 accounts each. It's getting really pathetic.
