I'm not involved with any coins other than holding btc and xpm currently, so a little bit less biased than some... I look for coins challenging the proof of work model because any copycat coin won't be the 100-fold return. Primecoin is possibly a half year old now and is up there in market cap alongside the veteran coins. I'm putting my money into eMunie on launch which is not a fork of any current development. Might want to check that out. I'm also trying curecoin on launch this weekend.
+1 on eMunie. I'm currently in PPC and CGB and I will certainly be adding eMunie upon its release.

You had me at "privacy guaranteed". What sort of exchange mechanism is planned to convert eMunie to fiat? Will the platform also accept PPC? Eagerly anticipating the eMunie release...

I think by viewing this list, one can get a better idea of what coins might be worth investing.
I like how solid LTC and PPC are entrenched The trends for some of the top 20 coins also looks fairly encouraging.
+1 LTC and PPC are both entrenched as you say. I am heavily betting on both. Personally I think PPC is really going to skyrocket. Why? 1) The value of PPC is rising due to the rise in Bitcoin 2) Money is starting to flood into cryptocurrencies - I'm sure many will feel that BTC is too expensive (the whole Satoshi / BTC divisible to 8 decimal places is irrelevant - psychologically, nobody wants to buy 0.0xxx of anything) 3) PPC is not even a dollar a coin - even if it rises to just a couple of bucks each, it will provide a far greater return than BTC at this point 4) At some point some of the ASIC miners out there could start mining PPC instead of BTC Whatever happens, I think the safest bet is to stick to the top 3 - BTC, LTC and PPC.

add megacoin, anoncoin and cryptogenic bullions and I'm sold. I'm tired of cryptsy. They'll just keep adding crapcoins until their site implodes.
oh wait, all coins listed are developed by the same dev. Still, looks neat. Yup, the sad part of it. The exchange looks neat though. I'm also trying to further crypto-currency as a whole. That's great you're looking to further crypto-currency as a whole, it should make sense then to add the coin with the 3rd largest market cap. I know you're swamped on development, we hope you reconsider. +1 - PLEASE ADD PPC!

Hi, is there a linux build of the latest wallet anywhere? none on the site at least. T-shirts and bumper stickers are great, but the basics like client builds are more important no?
+1 - there should be a Linux build. As of right now I have to launch a Windoze VM inside my Linux machine to run CGB... definitely not ideal. On the plus side, there is already a Mac client so Linux is all that remains.

How come no updates from the dev? Who is supporting the coin?
And where is it traded now? It used to be traded against BTC on BTCLTC but now I only see it against CosmosCoin and there is absolutely no volume.
Does anyone have any more info on what's going on with this coin?

Great thread! I got into alt coins back in April when BTC crashed from $260. Right now I'm mainly in BTC but I am also speculating heavily on both PPC (Peer to Peer Coin) and CGB (Cryptogenic Bullion).
As BTC rises, I think there will be a spillover into some of the alts that could possibly end up bringing a 1,000 - 3,000 % return! For example, if BTC is at $1,000, is it not feasible that PPC could be trading at $9? The PPC marketcap would still be small compared to BTC, yet the coin would have appreciated much more than BTC due to the much lower current price.
I went with PPC and CGB due to the POS (Proof of Stake) scheme instead of POW (Proof of Work). I can see energy consumption being a negative for Bitcoin and a positive for POS coins in the future.

Thanks for the updates today guys... some great info. I am a large holder of CGB and I can't wait to see where this ride takes us!
I think it's a good call to hold off on petitioning BTC-e for now - let the price rise and stabilize on its own and the coin gain more of a reputation first.
Advertising is key right now. People need to know about the two main differences from Bitcoin - the more energy-efficient POS and the 2% interest. These are the key selling points IMHO.
Keep up the great work!

I am no longer receiving the POS interest - I received some on Aug 29 but nothing at the end of Sep. None of my settings have changed and my wallet is unlocked.
To be honest, I am starting to think this coin was just a scam all along. The dev has disappeared and there is absolutely 0 volume on the 2 exchanges that it trades on.

Wow, this is big news indeed! I fully support CB going POS only. Once that happens, I think a good course of action would be to kick the advertising campaign into the next gear and focus on the improvements that CB has over Bitcoin. For example, "CryptogenicBullion - Like Bitcoin, only with interest and no mining!" The interest-bearing, environmentally-friendly aspects of the POS-only scheme must be at the forefront of the advertising as this is what makes CB truly unique in the sea of alt-coins. Keep up the great work Team CB!

I'm selling 25,000 GRW for 0.5 BTC - just send me a PM if you are interested.

NiccoloMac - Just wondering if you will be trying to get the coin on an exchange asap or will it just be mining at first? It's pretty easy to get a coin onto Cryptsy.

I realize we need the better coin before 2014, when Europe goes to bail-ins and capital controls. That is why I have near 0% patience right now. Sorry for offending anyone.
Looks like we are on the exact same page AnonyMint. Complete anonymity in a cryptocurrency is priority number one in my book, and I think many will soon learn that it should have been in theirs as well. Ever since the Zerocoin announcement I have been anxiously anticipating the release of a completely anonymous coin. I am ready to convert my entire cryptocurrency stash into it - I have no doubt there are many others thinking the same.

Updated, for the wallet.dat, I think its unnecessary as you will have a simplified wallet I will add a recommendations/tutorial to encrypt the wallet.
I never liked the fact that all clients automatically install the wallet as "wallet.dat" - makes it an easy target for hackers to find (there is more than one piece of spyware out there that scours the infected computer for "wallet.dat"). I think it would be pretty easy to allow to user to enter whatever filename they want for the wallet during install. Sure, everyone should be encrypted their wallets but this simple little bit of added randomness could save some less technical users a lot of heartbreak.

No matter how much BTC you have, it's not enough to buy you a proper goatee!

|

Unbelievable - not a single vote for VaginaCoin?!
|
|
|
That would fall under the anonymity portion. But I plan to make it a bit more extensive.
That's all I need to hear - can't wait for the release! Given the constant attack on all forms of privacy in today's society, I have no doubt people will flock to any cryptocurrency that is truly anonymous. It doesn't look like Zerocoin is being picked up by anyone anytime soon, so your coin can be the first to fill this desperate need - best of luck to you!

Cryptsy is a great exchange! I had some issues with my account after I lost access to my email and BitJohn resolved it very quickly - I can definitely recommend them.
