81  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Merging two encrypted wallet.dat files on: April 26, 2020, 12:00:23 AM
I have a technical question.

A wallet is protected by a password, which encrypts the key.

Is it possible to "merge" two encrypted wallets into one and have a completely new database, if they are encrypted with the same password?

Is there any paper on how the encryption works?

No you cannot, as there is no wallet that can have multiple passwords for different private keys.

All wallets even those with imported keys share the same password, therefor render it impossible to "merge" two different wallets with different passwords into one.

If you need info on password encryption for bitcoin core you could always dive in here; (google AES-256-CBC and SHA-512)

82  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Hex pattern for electrum wallet on: April 02, 2020, 04:56:17 PM
I'm trying to find an electrum wallet on a disk, it was saved without an extension - can anyone tell me what hex pattern I could search for to find the file?

Thanks a mill. Smiley

There is no hex pattern as its a hashed encrypted wallet. Only hint is that the hash ends with == so you could search for that
83  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: missing 7 characters of a private key in Hexa format ; please help on: March 25, 2020, 03:39:12 PM
Hello everybody ,  my name is Amir and i need your help !!

I have a private key in hexadecimal format with 7 missing characters out of 64;   i know the location of the missing characters /   -   i know also the corresponding bitcoin adress yet there are no output transactions so i don't know the public key ... just the adress

After i searched the internet for a solution and found some tools for situations like mine / none of them seems to fitt my exact sittuation: some of the tools cand recover only the end of the private key , others works for diferent private key formats   !

can please somebody make a tool for me so i can recover my private key ? i would send a tip to that person as soon as i recover my funds/     i have to mention also that i have no programming skills / i don't know to read or apply a code so please make the tool as user friendly as possible and post some "noob" instructions of how to use it .   the tool must work in offline so i can trust it

with respect  / i am waiting for your replays

You would need to modify the finder to use gpu, cpu will be too slow.

84  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Wallet.dat on: March 25, 2020, 12:55:33 PM
is there a possibility or any program would know what character (en,ru,chi,jpn,etc..) I've used to lock my wallet.dat on bitcoin core anyone who can answer would be a great relief for me I've seen some topic ago here on bitcointalk don't know if this by gavinandersen who's by his program would know if its a general ASII encoding locking this said wallet,

Kaonashi1993

In some cases the label of your wallet address is in plain text inside the wallet.dat

Open the wallet.dat with a texteditor like notepad in windows or textedit on mac

Search for the string "name" following this string usually there is the address and in same cases a wallet label.

I have encountered labels in english, chinese and English

You can also use pywallet on github to dump the wallet info into a json file and the label will also show up, this is more technical and you need python 2.7 installed. You can find pywallet on github.com

85  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Newbie returning after long hiatus on: March 14, 2020, 09:13:58 AM
I mined some bitcoin for a little bit, a long time ago; back when it was still possible to mine with GPU.
I haven't been active here for a long time.

How do I move my BTC to sell? I still have the wallet.dat file saved in thumb drive from back then. Also, do I have the same amount of BCH as I have in BTC? How do I move / sell BCH?

Edit: Should I follow this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a08MlPSSULU

Thank you

If the amount is over 50 BTC you should consider selling OTC as you could get 20% premium for your "virgin" btc.

Dont sweep into one address as it will or could reveal your identity.

Also, once you cleared the wallets, keep them safe, they could have secondary value, even emptied.

Finally, even if you use vpn your IP will be revealed if you dont turn off webCRT, even if you run your own full node broadcasting your transaction will reveal your ip to connected nodes. ( thats what chainanalysis sniffing do)

Just a few pre caution tips.

Random generator usually have default configuration such as total character, which character to use (lower case, upper case, number, special character, etc.), if you can't even find out or remember the configuration, it's almost impossible to brute force it.

I am familiar with BTCrecovery but I think hashcat is more efficient as it uses the GPUs of your system automatically.

BTCrecovery does support GPU usage for wallet.dat created by Bitcoin Core (and it's forks), even though i've no idea which software is more efficient/faster.

Having experience from multiple wallets I would say this version is the most optimized https://hashcat.net/beta/

Hi Everyone,
I have a bitcoin wallet that contains 500 bitcoins. I will give you 100 bitcoines if you can crack the password.
Unfortunately, I can’t remember the password as my wallet was created in 2016.
You need to run the code below on a large GPU or CPU cluster using Hashcat. If you can find the password, please send it with your bitcoin wallet address to (alexwallet49@gmail.com) to get the reward.
About the password, It was generated by a random generator. I don’t know the number of characters.

./hashcat64.exe -w 4 -a 3 -m 11300 '$bitcoin$64$e88ffdffc78bc63aee88087d4b76b57823805e2ea1adbf91d511f41e4b46bb5e$16$5a139f85a10fa189$104326$96$e4de967b26c35ff2157da84c826ab31cba29f8dd884e6190a6d36dd8e91a8803b4faaac6cb75f7deabcf00f1f4356c69$66$03fdda1c4116970b6eac8e9765e0afd902d3e453b019ff53c8b1ba2689da45058f' -i ?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a

Regards
Alex

Hi Alex,

First of all, I would recommend you NOT to include the full hash of your wallet as you are not sure whats included. Some hashes include more than just the password.

Second seeing you have posted this on multiple sites, you should avoid exposure and instead contact a few trusted recovery services.

Looking at your hashcat command, there are a few things you should take into account.

8 characters or above using ?a will not solve it in your lifetime
hashcat64 is a hashcat 5.1 command, you should try the beta which is more optimized
-w4 command is not very good either, try w3

Also, before doing a bruteforce attack, you should make a list of password you used in the past and find a pattern. Brute forcing this wallet
with random characters will not do it. You will need to narrow down the search
1) any words used
2) combination of words or numbers
3) narrow down special characters, maybe the most common 3-4

Finally, exposing yourself like this you are basically begging for scammers and hackers to send you harmful code.

Except of the standard dont run any software people send you, dont open PDF or WORD documents, they do most likely include keyloggers and
trojans that will steal your wallet file or even worse, encrypt your drive.

Therefor, dont store your 500BTC wallet on any computer connected to the internet.

89  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What are the setup costs of developing your own bitcoin blockchain explorer on: January 03, 2020, 02:03:36 PM
(.....)
In terms on online server, amazon instances are pretty good (we run both an BTC and ETH explorer) which are accessed from anywhere in the world using RPC calls and runs 24/7. Cost is about 300 USD/month for the data transfer.
This is quite a huge amount of money since the OP said he/she wanted to gain personal experience of developing blockchain explorer.
Do you have any idea if, for example, I'll do it first locally, just for fun or experience just what like OP wants, Do I still need those 500GB of space
or minimum/DELL R200 with 4GB of ram and an old Pentium CPU just what you told?

The only difference to run it locally would be to skip the Amazon EC2 instance costs.

If you are on a budget there are several GITHUB repositories you could borrow from but it is still quite a challenging project
to run your own block explorer. (instead of hiring an experienced coder)

90  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Dormant blockchain.com accounts? on: January 02, 2020, 01:34:52 PM
There seems to be a lot accounts setup at blockchain.com and blockchain.info with the passwords lost.

What happens with the bitcoin after a few years, does their support siphon the coins?

I mean they have the wallet IDs and wallet backups in JSON format together with email addresses, but if a person loses the mail associated with the wallet then BOOM, your coins are gone. A friend of mine has been trying to recover a long lost password since 2013, a big chunk of coins, but since his mail provider went out of business he has no way to request a backup wallet.

Anyone in similar position?

Can you even request a wallet backup via mail? I'm fairly sure that you aren't able to do that.

Blockchain.com insists that they don't have any role in keeping private keys, so if they were to be sending out wallet backup files via mail, wouldn't that be essentially holding private keys for the user? That's quite self contradictory imo.

Anyways, afaik support will not take your case and the only hope your friend has will likely be brute-forcing or somehow using existing clues to try and guess the password. At least he has the wallet-id.

Yes, you can do this in two steps.

1) go to login https://login.blockchain.com/#/reminder
there you type in the e-mail that registered the wallet.

2) you can request backup json file

With your "ideas" you can extract the hash with john and then brute force with hashcat.

Works like a charm

91  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What are the setup costs of developing your own bitcoin blockchain explorer on: January 01, 2020, 01:05:18 PM
So the only useful guide I've found is by hackernoon and it is talking about ethereum blockchain explorer setup.
I've been in Bitcoin for several years and now working on my own project. I am looking to develop a blockchain explorer from scratch rather than using existing API (for my personal experience).

What would it really takes in terms of hardware, code requirements and costs?

As far as I understand I first need to setup a Bitcoin node, making sure I have enough storage capacity to handle all historical blocks and transactions (am I right?)
But what am I doing from there? how do I turn it into an database and making my own API?

Does anyone have any guide for it?

First, do you want it to run locally or access through internet?

To run an explorer like the blockchain.com API you need about 500GB of space, except of above code, you would need to make a database of all TXs so you can parse it quickly. Either code yourself in Python or hire a coder. You would probably land on 2000 USD to have a fast and secure explorer. A simple windows/unbuntu box is fine, your can run it on as little as a DELL R200 with 4GB of ram and an old Pentium CPU. Most critical is good bandwith for data transfer and fast SSD disk.

In terms on online server, amazon instances are pretty good (we run both an BTC and ETH explorer) which are accessed from anywhere in the world using RPC calls and runs 24/7. Cost is about 300 USD/month for the data transfer.

Good luck

92  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: your own btc node. on: December 26, 2019, 08:24:29 AM
what does it take to set it up?

I just set one up two days ago and this is what it took.

1) laptop with windows 10 8gb of ram and 450gb ssd disk
2) download bitcoin core from https://bitcoin.org/en/download
3) wait to sync, for me it took 2 days over a fast WIFI in nothern Europe

Make sure you have at least 300GB or more as the full node is closing to the 300GB mark and you dont want to move the data again.

Good Luck

93  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: can't move btc for 17 days? on: December 25, 2019, 07:40:59 AM
I recently put money into coinbase exchange for btc, and wanted to put btc in a wallet but was unable to. It said for 17 days!
Is this normal?

Check your spam folder, they might have send you an email requesting KYL AML documents. It happened to several people I know.

Also open a support ticket and request a solution.

94  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.com - Transactions and funds went missing on: December 23, 2019, 07:35:21 AM
Hello,

around 3 days ago i had all my online savings on a blockchain.com wallet. Suddently my balance went from 3500€ to 200€ and most transactions of NOV-DEZ are missing.
As i see over my logs and blockchain all funds are still on the different address but those address are not anymore added in blockchain.com.
I tried to export the seed and add it in electrum but it only shows the balance/transaction of the first wallet in Blockchain.com (but i got all the money on the second wallet).

https://imgur.com/f4NGytH

Any way to access the funds?

Regards,
NeloDelo

Maybe you removed the adressess from your wallet ID.

You should request a backup of your wallet(s) by first asking the to send all wallet IDs attached to your email using this link:

https://login.blockchain.com/#/reminder

Check if you are looking at right wallet, you can have multiple accounts.

If you forget password to any it is still possible to download the backup JSON file.

Good luck!

95  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Trouble restoring old wallet on: December 22, 2019, 07:03:46 AM
Hi, looked around a bit but couldn't find an answer so decided to post. Found an old wallet.dat file that I would like to restore. I downloaded bitcoin core 0.19.0.1 from the website and waited for it to sync the blockchain. Closed bitcoin core and replaced the wallet.dat file with my old wallet(from 2013). Saw an error message that said to run bitcoin-qt with --reindex command. I did but now everytime I run btcoin-qt I get a warning confirming date and time are correct(laptop battery is dead so sometimes windows messes up the clock when rebooting but it is correct when I run bitcoin-qt). Every time I see this clock message it seems the syncing is stopped and freezes.

Just before it shows the clock warning and freezes I am able to go to the transactions page and see only 5 transactions that when totaled leave an amount of btc still on the wallet (though main page says balance is 0). How can I recover these coins?

Did you try pywallet?

You can download here https://github.com/jackjack-jj/pywallet

You would be able to import the wallet.dat and export data like keys or adresses without having to download or sync the blockchain.

Then use electrum https://electrum.org/#download and import the keys.

Good luck!

96  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: CPU for btcrecover on: December 21, 2019, 04:59:09 PM
I currently have an 8700k and it's been plenty sufficient for checking the couple million variations I made in the passwords list.  But it hasn't found my password yet and it's time to step it up in the tokens file so I need something stronger, and I'm not willing to spend more than a grand on a CPU.

Would a 2950x 24/48 or a 3950x 16/32 be faster for this program?  Logically the more cores makes sense, but I remember reading Threadripper Gen2 had an efficiency issue with the design and you can see it in the benchmarks where it severely lacks.  But at the same time it wouldn't be doing anything hardcore other than checking passwords against a wallet file.  So which would be better for this?  I know the Ryzen 9 3950x is much better as an all around daily driver, but this would be just for this purpose and sold once the wallet password is recovered.

What do you guys think?

What wallet type is it and what are your parameters in Hashcat?

There are various tweaks and rule sets you could use, could give you some ideas to improve the tests.

Do you use your own password lists or password hints?

Any rule sets?

good luck

97  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: btcrecover for your usual password... with a typo. on: December 21, 2019, 04:56:51 PM
Thanks you for your replies guys. I just got a chance to tweak with BTCrecover and the tokens + typos maps and this could well be the wat to go, since I know what the password should have been.

I will give it a good shot and if that works I'm planning to write a tutorial for the ones who endup in my situation. That could be helpful as the UX isn't that easy to deal with with those powerful tools.

My only concern now is the poor way btcrecover performs with OpenCL on nVidia solutions.

How many hashes per second do you get?

98  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: my seed 12 missing one word, i try PY-not my field on: December 14, 2019, 09:12:53 AM
Hello community, glad to be here, wanted to ask you because i have 3 issues:
Issue n1: I have 11/12 words + address from my HD Exodus wallet, i am trying Python,i have download it and trying to use this: https://github.com/tnkmt/brute.bip39 , is this the proper method? how to configure and start it? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=922987.0 tried also, seems easy but it give me ''error''
Issue n2: I have certainly a bad memory, and i use to be busy in real life, family, work, etc, ,but i was very surprised back in the days when i got a mycelium seed containing the word ''retailer'' twice. This wallet was used and left some cash there, Tried to restore later on but always says: invalid pneumonic..[can even noo longer unblock it in mycelium, ''retailer'' not a valid word''
Issue n3: I have a 9/12 seed just 9 first words, no more tips, address, etc.

Thank you in advance! please help me to get my btc back and let's grab a beer later on!!! Cheesy

Without any address (public key) you are probably out of luck. Can you check any transaction that you may have made to friends? It's essential to have at least one address to find the missing word(s).

Your best shot to find the missing parts are https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover

Good luck!

99  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: btcrecover for your usual password... with a typo. on: December 14, 2019, 09:09:44 AM
Hey guys.

I recently did something stupid with my fat chubby fingers. I have a small BTC wallet with not that much in it but still, I wanted to encrypt it as I feel safer that way.

And so I did. With my usual password.

But it seems that I made a mistake (twice !) by typing it and now I'm looking to a way to configure the btcrecover token file for making it work when:

1: you know the password
2: but you made a typo, misswrote a part of it, inverted two letter / numbers. This kind of mistake.

If not possible, do you know a GPU accelerated tool that could work that way? I found Bitcoin password recovery tool by Thegrideon Software but I don't know if that's good or not.

This also is an interesting event to be used to learn a bit more. The amount isn't that big, but the challenge is interesting.

Thanks.

Hello,

1. what type of wallet is it, bitcoin core, electrum etc.
2. Download John the ripper lib from Github and use python and correct wallet converter like blockchain2john.py or  tools to generate hash
Download link:    https://github.com/magnumripper/JohnTheRipper
3. My first choice would be hashcat, as it supports many formats an has great support, download from hashcat.net
or Github: https://github.com/hashcat/hashcat
4. Create a password list, add rules and run overnight, it should find it.

If you need help with John the ripper or Hashcat they have their own boards with support

good luck

100  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase hacked on: December 06, 2019, 01:00:27 PM
Had Coinbase USD WALLET EMPTIED this week while down loading coins from POLONIEX,  I thought Coinbase was secure. Coinbase says they can't help. Now what.

You probably have a keylogger installed.

DO NOT CHANGE PASSWORD BEFORE CLEAN INSTALL COMPUTER

If your computer is still infected with the keylogger your passwords will be sent to the attacker.

1) clean format computer
2) change passwords after you have installed a OS downloaded from the makers, DO NOT download pirated torrents, you will be hacked again.

Many torrents of Windows and games have keyloggers embedded.
